Absolutely loved my experience at Sushi Thai! The vegetarian sushi options are some of the best I've had in the Chicago suburbs. The Custom Sweet Potato Roll was definitely my favorite. The sweet potato and asparagus tempura had the perfect crunch, and the jalapeño, cream cheese, and unagi sauce came together so well. The Mango-Avo-Q Roll was delicious too, especially with the fresh mango flavors. Everything came out fresh, the portions were generous, and the staff was amazing. Sushi Thai is an excellent local sushi restaurant. This is our go to carry out sushi restaurant. We recently dined in and loved the coziness of the dining room, being able to see the chef preparing our roles, and the attentiveness of the waitress. While there are some language barriers when it comes to communicating dietary restrictions, our waitress checked each item with the chef and I was able to order two rolls, one with modifications. I wish that there were more gluten-free and dairy free options available on their cooked roll menu. The sushi is always fresh and flavorful. One person in our party ordered the curry, which was incredibly flavorful and a very generous portion size. Highly recommend supporting this local, family owned establishment. read more

We ordered avocado roll - all pieces had brown rotten avocado. Moreover 2 pieces came with almost no avocado at all, just rice - which was way too sweet (?!) The restroom smelled bad and looked dirty, the facet was not working properly: impossible to wash two hands simultaneously, have to hold the facet to get the water on one hand. We got takeout from this restaurant last night and it was great. They have a menu item they call the gluten-free bowl which is what I got. Everyone in our party got a bowl of some thing and everyone liked it. Also, that they give away free miso soup when you pick up. It is not gluten-free, but everyone else said it was good. One star too many for sure. We ordered spring rolls appetizer with NO shrimp. For some reason they added Fennel to the rolls. Our spring rolls tasted like black licorice. When we asked why they added fennel, they denied it when it was clear as day that it was in there. Also, ordered some sushi rolls to go. When we got home, there was hair ON TOP of the rolls. Like they couldn't SEE THAT?? Their sushi is less than mediocre. They put fake crab meat in the California roll. Everything there tasted like Pine cleaner. Nothing is fresh. Tasty Thai for sure!! I'm a sucker for any kind of curry, and this spot has so many different kinds! I had not been here in a long time, over a year, and it is just as good as I remember. The staff are all very helpful and nice, constantly coming to the table to refill waters, take away used dishes or ask if you need anything else. The to go table for uber eats and door dash is always hop'n and even during dinner time you aren't waiting long for your food! There are several spicy options on the menu so if thats your thing go for it! I like spicy, and I enjoy a level 2 comfortably on all dishes. This time around I ordered the Green Coconut Curry (that has mushrooms, onions, bamboo shoots, baby carrots and green onions) with tofu as my entree, and a sweet potato tempura, and fried tofu with ginger peanut sauce for an appetizer. They sell Sapporo which I love with a good asian inspired meal, and it comes with a cold glass and the bottle. The vibe is relaxed, and the mood inside is calm. I am a loud person by nature, so even when I was talking or laughing about something I felt comfortable, like I wasn't shouting or disturbing others even with the background music and this location being as small as it. There are about two dozen coup tables, and window seating, but if you had a part of 4 or six they could also accommodate you. This restaurant is located on the corner of the shopping complex in the same lot as Walgreens with plenty of parking. When the weather gets nice they even have a small outdoor patio to sit at so I'll definitely be back in the summer to have a cold Sapporo!* read more

This review has one star too many. I had the unfortunate experience of dining at Sushi Thai, and let me tell you, it was an absolute disaster from start to finish. The food was horrendous, I got the wonsoon pad Thai with their "special" house made sauce. When I tell you this sauce tasted like it was cooked inside a dying lime rubbed rats body, I mean it. The tempura was dry and tasteless, the Thai dishes were greasy, and everything seemed like it had been sitting out for hours before being served. To make matters worse, our server was downright rude. They acted as if we were an inconvenience, snapping at us when we asked questions and making us feel unwelcome the entire time. It was one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. When we wanted to exchange our food because it tasted like someone's cooked dog hair, the server said "no." And that was it. When our server, Sunny, came around to ask "is everything tasting fine?" just because I hadn't tasted the noodles yet and I was hungry after doing errands since 6:00 AM I thought the food was fine. So I said "yes," just to be polite because I would hate to be rude to anyone in the service industry. Well well well.. When the bill arrived, we were shocked to see that the prices were significantly higher than what was listed on the menu. This place is not just terrible, it's a complete rip-off. It's more like a 4.5 but I'll round up. This little sushi Thai spot holds a lot of flavor. Their menu is quite large with so much to choose from. The staff is super friendly and answered the many questions my table had and even flipped through their TV menu because my nephew saw a picture of something he liked but didn't know the name. That extra step they took added to our amazing experience. The service is quick and the food is freshly made. For appetizers started with chicken. Egg rolls and pot stickers. Loved them both. The crispness of the pot stickers was sheer perfection. The crab Rangoons were a bit bigger than I was expecting. It was my first time having them. I'm still on the fence with taste. Their sushi lists has a lot of options we finally decided on three of them and they were all pretty tasty. Sushi is a hit or a miss for me, but this place does it well. The main entrees I always love a good pad thai and this place is up there on my list of pad thai places. The sesame chicken was also seasoned really well. Every one in my group seemed to enjoy their meals. My mom had the salmon thai she was hoping the salmon would have been grilled or something extra it was bland for her. I've been here a couple of times we now and really like it. The menu is pretty huge and there are so many choices for sushi. Our server is apparently new with a few things missing from our table like chopsticks or soy sauces but that's minor. They were still attentive and checked in on us. As for the space, it's small but really clean. The sushi is good. Really good. A page of the standards as well as a couple of pages of specialty rolls. I ended up ordering my go tos like the Volcano Roll and the Spider Roll. Put some caviar or eel sauce on a roll and it becomes a favorite! Quality is going down. My family has been a long time fan of Shushi Thai, I would say we order take out once a month for the last 10 years. It would never disappoint great rolls, pad thai, curry, etc. However within the last year the quality and consistency has gone way down. Not exaggerating at least 50% of the time we order take out, they get the order wrong. Not the dish, but what is requested (for example the level of spiciness, ingredients to be removed or added, etc. I'm pretty sure this is because they are making batch amounts of popular goods, such as pad thai, because it is cheaper not to customize. Also, the amount of meat portions in all of their dishes is scant. If they need to raise prices a bit I would be fine with it but last night I ordered Chicken Pad Thai, and no joke, there were 4 small pieces of chicken in the entire entree. All noodles. I hope management reads this because you are going to lose a long time patron if you don't change your kitchen management. read more

I came here to visit after my son's Navy Graduation. I seen the mixed reviews. I didn't feel like driving anywhere far from the hotel so I walked over here. So glad I was able to come and had a great time. I came on a Friday night and it was awesome! Considering they had several birthday parties etc. They were able to accommodate us and sat us down quickly. The service was very good, the food was made fresh and good! The restrooms are clean with plenty of toilet paper and paper towels. All staff practices Covid-19 precautions and are very friendly. I only gave 4 stars because if you have a large party I would call ahead of time. There's plenty of parking and everyone was great! They do phone orders and prepare it quick! For instance, my friend and I had a weekend at Lake Geneva, and shrewdly decided to have lunch on our way back to Chicago rather than in touristy and thus overpriced town, The choice proved perfect. Not only did we spend less tan half of what we had spent on previous meal in downtown Lake Geneva, but it was filling, delicious and had one killer dish, the latter being an excellent seared tuna appetizer. The atmosphere and waitstaff matched the quality of food nicely. From now on, if I am ever around Chicago north suburbs, or going home via I-94, this is the place. First, you should know that my hubby and I tried the Thai part of Sushi Thai. My husband tried the spicy basil dish. He ordered it, on a scale of 1-4 for spiciness, as a 4 -- the hottest available. If you want some good Pad Thai, i would recommend this place. I've been going here ever since they first opened. The prices are slightly higher. Sushi is A-OK. We went on a saturday night around 7:30. The small place was full. Had to wait a few minutes for a seat. Good timing i guess. Anyway, i started off with Thai Iced Tea. Super sweet and deliciously flavored. I always ask them to go easy on the condensed milk because it is ridiculously sweet, yet so good lol I'm not sure if our waiter forgot my request but my drink was still SO sweet. We ordered Crabmeat Tempura roll, Shrimp Tempura roll and Kentucky Roll. All three rolls were ok. One thing i dont like about "fusion" places is they smother the sushi with TONS of sauce. Whats the point of eating "fresh" fish or ingredients when all i can taste is the unagi sauce or whatever else sauce they put on sushi? I usually try to get the sauce on the side if possible. All that sauce they put on the sushi really takes the "natural" flavor away. Personally, i would steer away from the Kentucky roll. The cream cheese just made it too gooey. OR have the chef not add it in. Other than that, its okay. It does have a strong salmon flavor. Service was very friendly and prompt. Maybe part of the reason is they want to turn over tables quickly but i felt they were quick but not rushy in a way. So i didnt mind that. I have been to the Vernon Hills location a multitude of times. I get sick of the same thing, but I know good sushi when I find it, so I decided I wanted to try out the original location. I headed up to Libertyville and was relieved that we got the last available table. It was a little cramped in by the door, but I'll endure anything for good sushi! The service was a bit slow and it took a while to get the sushi. The place was packed though. All of the tables were full, there was a wait and a bunch of people came in for carry out. It was nice outside so I decided to order a Green Tea Bubble Tea (that seems repetative). It was delicious. The tapioca bubbles are huge and for some reason they dye them black here, so it is like giant watermelon seeds. I finished off the bubble tea and was still left waiting for sushi. When the sushi finally arrived, I realized that it was well worth the wait. The rolls were huge and the fish was fresh. I thought the quality was much better here than the Vernon Hills location. The tom yum soup was delicious, but it tasted more like veggie soup with a bit of asian taste than asian soup with vegetables in it. The pad see ew was yummy, but again, not quite authentic in flavoring and spice. Perhaps too bland / Americanized? I'm not sure how to describe the nuance. It was delicious, and I ate all of the noodles, but it just wasn't authentic. If you come here, definitely opt for the thai (IMHO) vs. the sushi. p.s .they *ALWAYS* have good music playing.
