True to form, the service is meh, it took a long time to come out, and the fajitas were knock-down drag-out A+ AMAZING. Always seared and charred to perfection, the beef is flavorful and seasoned so well. The shrimp are cooked perfectly and downright addictive. Their tortillas are unmatched and big-as-yo-face and from my experience, unrecreatable at home. And when I tell you, I put that seafood butter on errythang, I put that seafood butter on ERRYTHANG. The shrimp. The rice. The fajita. That spare tortilla left over at the end. Long story short, I hope you live close by because you will need to take a small coma of a nap when done. I still think Lupe's is one of the most over-rated Tex-Mex restaurants in the area. The drinks were a positive, particularly their "skinny" margaritas. The chips and salsa were fine. Warm chips and chunky salsa were above above average. But the breakdown is with the entrees. My wife's stuffed poblano was filled with lead. Seriously, shredded chicken with rice and cheese that was so thick you could use it to build a brick house. The chicken was over powered by rice stuck together with cheese. The tequila chicken was well received, but my pepper chicken fajitas was a large over-cooked chicken breast covered with a few spicy peppers. I will say the flour tortillas are as good as you can get. We had good service, but it can't compensate for average food coming from the kitchen. The food is really good!!!! We went today 8/16/25. The bartender Nico didn't even ask us if we needed anything I had to flag down another bartender Rudy to get us a drink! If you want to feel tall, this is the place for you. The roof slants in different areas of the establishment. This is prevalent in the men's bathroom that's outside. I could have misheard the staff when they explained to me that the men's restroom is outside but the women have a restroom outside and inside. If that's true then the men's restroom only has two stalls. That ratio is disrespectful. The food was delicious, savory, and filling. I ordered the quesadillas and it came in 4. I walked away with a box for later (it was still delicious the next day). Service is helpful and plenty. Beans with chips and salsa is new to me but... What a great idea. The beans were scrumptious! One nuance is how packed the restaurant was. They deliberately put the tables close together and you can barely maneuver. The servers do a fantastic job of getting through the aisles but it's a tight fit. So I usually get the beef fajitas (these are tenderized and they use a lime rub on em) and I'm pretty particular when I order but my waitress had no problem. She delivered promptly and without hesitation. I'm glad this location hired her. One quick note, they do have queso cheese without the peppers in it, you just have to ask. There's a gravel parking lot crossing the street but it belongs to another restaurant. Parking there means being at risk of getting towed. The table we were given was not very comfortably located. We haven't been to a Lupe Tortilla since the now teens were toddlers. Memories. So we decide to try again...8 years or so later. My husband and I had the big salad. My younger teen got the shrimp tacos, the older special needs teen got the ribs and French fries. Chips and salsa and beans brought to the table and the indoor house atmosphere is ADORABLE! The salad tastes amazing and is huge! We added the grilled chicken which was perfect. Clean plate club for us both. My eldest son could only eat the ribs (boxed up the fries to go) as the amount is massive along with filling up on chips and my youngest sons tacos were perfect for him (2 tacos) along with chips/salsa. They still do a really good job of keep the service and food flowing. Customer service is clearly important to the owners and employees because they have pride in their work, quality in their food and a smile on their face. I haven't caught them slipping yet. Every dining experience and to go order comes with complimentary beans, salsa and chips. I love mixing the beans and salsa. You can't say you had the Lupe experience if you haven't tried the fajita meat. Whatever they are putting in the marinade is golden. This Lupe Tortilla is my favorite place to eat Tex Mex in Houston. I usually get their red chicken enchiladas which are spicy and flavorful. Their fajitas are tender and seared to perfection. Their tortillas are unique in Houston, as thick as 5 sheets of paper and as big as a small pizza. Their guacamole and queso are a welcome sight for times I can't wait for the entree. One of my favorites is the fajita wrap. I've had it with steak, chicken, and this most recent time with portobello. I think I prefer the portobello but sometimes I prefer to do a vegetarian option. The wrap is just enough for me and I never end up touching the rice or beans. Next time I might see if they have an a la carte option to be less wasteful. I also do not get the crispy tortilla strips on top. So this one is modified. I highly recommend! We come here semi often for lunch when we are in the office. It is tiny - in an old converted home with multiple add-on rooms plus situated in an area with multiple other restaurants with odd/sometimes difficult parking (watch the signs - don't get towed!). This is not an appropriate place for a large group (6 is the limit really) - we learned that the hard way when trying to have a going away party for someone at work here and not being able to get seating together because our party was not all their at once and seating is first come, first served. Our organizer tried to work with the manager on this and was told before we came that they would work with us, but that turned out to not be true/possible, so it left a not great impression. Once we were able to find a space to just gather in, things got better and we were able to enjoy drinks and the food, but the hassle of this location before that point was not worth it. Go elsewhere (like the Tex-Mex place across the street) if you have a large party. If it is a normal-sized party, no issue except to expect a wait because this place is popular! read more
