Ate at this location for the last time this evening. My family and I frequently dine in at this restaurant and until tonight we have had decent experiences. Not only did the power go out, our food took two hours to be served, and my wife had a 2" roach climb up her neck mid dinner. She brought it to our waiters attention and his response was "At least she killed it..." he then proceeded to sweep it into a dust pan and disappeared - embarrassed. I had to ask a bus boy to bring us our check & "to-go" boxes. My wife called management upon leaving and his total disregard for customer service was appalling. Manager never mentioned he was sorry, instead attempted to normalize the situation as if it were just another Friday night at Lupe. Extremely disappointing and disgraceful customer service. Not only is this disgusting and unacceptable.... The employees seem to not care whatsoever about the cleanliness of their facilities and or the quality of service provided. Inconsistent Quality & Poor GM Interaction We've been loyal customers for over thirty years, and while the Beef Fajitas are usually excellent, the quality can occasionally be inconsistent. Last week, both the fajitas and the service were outstanding, which encouraged us to return again this Saturday. As usual, we placed our dine‑in order immediately, along with a to‑go order. A few minutes later, the GM Tristan stopped by to introduce himself, which we appreciated. However, the fajitas arrived about 20 minutes late, compared to the 5‑minute turnaround we experienced last week. After taking a couple of bites, my wife mentioned the fajitas were chewy rather than tender, and I agreed. We informed our waitress, who kindly took the dish back to have a new batch prepared. Shortly afterward, the GM returned. We expected an apology or some form of accommodation, but instead--using a Sherlock‑Holmes‑style interrogation tone--he warned us that a second batch "might not be any different." His approach was surprising and unsettling. I reminded him that we've been coming here since he was a child. We waited 25 minutes with no food and no follow‑up from anyone, until a polite young gentleman, Carlos, came by to check on us. After hearing what happened, he assured us he would expedite the order. Five minutes later, the fajitas arrived, and this time they were tender and flavorful--exactly what we expected. After finishing our meal, we asked for the check and our to‑go order. Unfortunately, the waitress had forgotten to place the to‑go order entirely. We waited an additional 30 minutes, and still nothing until we asked again. Our server was very communicative on what's going on I felt like he was overworked, but in all he did apologize for the delays in our food. Lupe always has the best tortillas in my opinion. I didn't make a reservation which I normally absolutely would for any party bigger than 6, but we had 9 people and they were able to seat us almost immediately. We sat on the patio and I was worried that my sister who was using a wheelchair wouldn't be able to get to the patio. It was not a problem though. They put heaters outside and when one of them ran out, they replaced it quickly without us even asking. I am a frequent visitor of the Lupe Tortilla on South Shepherd. I recently visited this location twice within the last week and I will not be back to this location. I tried the brunch for the first time and it was good. The eggs in the fajita scramble are scrambled hard. I would recommend getting them scrambled soft or medium. The French Toast and pancakes are really good. The salsa and bean dip is pretty good. The service was okay. We had mimosas and margaritas which were not that impressive. I stopped in on Sunday with my family for margaritas ONLY around 5pm. It was relatively slow and it took 25-30 minutes for 4 margaritas. We sit in the bar area and never saw the bartender. After speaking with a manager the bartender appeared. We ended up getting our drinks Togo and they were horrible!!! We all agreed that we would rather drive a little further for better service, food and ambiance!! read more

Food taste and quality is good but the prices are high compared to other Tex-mex restaurants. Chicken fajitas and their charro beans along with refried beans are one of the best I ever had. Service and staff are the worst I have come across any restaurant I visited in Houston and this is also one of main reasons for a two star review. Rude, unprofessional and not trained sums up. When I ordered 5 sides of grilled poblano peppers which costed $10 I got 10 slices 1/8th size of half pepper. And the order is never prepared on time what was told online or over phone. Also this location needs upfront payment for to go orders worth $10 or more and they will not make you order if you placed it over phone and don't make payment. **Brunch review** Normally Lupe is a 4 or 5 for me, but I was not excited about the brunch. I typically go to the heights location, but wanted to try this one. The crowd is an orderly crowd and not as lively as the heights location. They also do not have mezcal at this location. They were light staffed the day we went, but I still thought our server did ok. The food on the other hand didn't do it for me. They cook the eggs on all the scrambles hard, even when you request soft. However, they always win with the salsa, beans, and chips. Yes, it's a chain. Yes, there are lot's of them. Yes, it's for a good reason! Lupe is, quite simply, delicious. It's become our go-to when we are in town for Houston on business trips and it's easy to justify why. The team is friendly and helpful. The drinks are tasty and creative. The menu is expansive, but not so big that you can't choose. There is plenty of seating and the layout ensures that it's never too loud or feels too crowded. After ordering over $100 worth of food online and walking over from the Hotel for pickup, my girlfriend decided to have a drink at the bar before we returned to our Hotel. We were denied entry. They would not let us sit at a table or at the bar so we may order some drinks. I did not know that once you ordered take out, one could not buy any more items for consumption. Zero stars if I could. Don't come here. I had one of the worst dining experiences at Lupe Tortilla on February 15, 2025, around 4:45 PM. From the moment my mom, my boyfriend, and I walked in, we felt ignored and disrespected. When we asked the hostess if we could sit in a booth, she rudely replied, "Nope." Then, moments later, she said a booth was available--but without any apology or acknowledgment of her dismissive attitude. That alone set a bad tone for the visit. I ignored it. Strike one. Once seated, we sat for 10 to 15 minutes without any acknowledgment from a server. No water, no chips and salsa, not even a simple "someone will be with you soon." When I tried to get a server's attention, she just waved at me and shrugged as if she had no idea who was supposed to help us. Strike two. Frustrated, I asked for a manager. A staff member directed me to the host stand, where I explained the poor service. Instead of addressing the issue, the manager dismissed my concerns, saying he had never received a complaint like this before. So it's our fault? I told him that, regardless of past experiences, the service today was rude and it happened today. Rather than making a genuine effort to fix the situation, he simply suggested we stay--offering no genuine apology or meaningful solution. Strike three. We were out. I'm not spending my money at an establishment that doesn't want to serve us properly. Even if it was free, which wasn't offered but I wouldn't want it that way anyway, I wouldn't trust them to make our food since I had to make a "fuss" about being ignored. We left feeling unheard, unwelcome, and deeply disappointed. It's one thing to have a slow service day, I get being in the weeds; I've worked in the restaurant industry, but it's another to completely ignore and dismiss customers like us. If a district manager sees this, I hope they train the store managers and staff on proper guest service. No one should have to beg for basic acknowledgment at a restaurant. This used to be one of my fav places for beef fajitas.. went in and at first there was a gnat in my water... after that a gnat in my plate. There were gnats swarming by the bar. Talked to the mgr and she said it is that time in the season. I don't go out to eat and drink with bugs.. by the time i noticed the gnat in my plate we only had about a third of the order that hadn't been touched. The mgr offered dessert instead of taking care of a portion of the tab or comping the tab.. after saying dessert wasn't acceptable she offered to remake the food to go. I love a good Tex-Amex establishment, and my Houston friends said that this was one of the chains that would be excellent. They were correct. As soon as we came, we were placed on the waitlist however we were quickly seated after a short wait. Staff asked if any of us were new to this restaurant. Being the only one not from Houston, I told them I was. The manager of the establishment personally brought us out complimentary skirt steak tacos for being a first-timer here, and these were excellent. Their skirt steak is the real deal! So much flavor, so juicy, and surprisingly tender. We got complimentary chips and salsa and a bean dip. The bean dip is amazing. I could eat this with chips all day as it had spices and cilantro and was super savory yet thin enough to still eat with chips. Being here during their Hatch Chile season, I had to get one of their seasonal dishes that included this. I got the hatch barbacoa tacos - braised beef with a Hatch Chile sauce and queso fresco, all on a corn tortilla. This was breathtaking. The corn tortillas are freshly made in-house, and this is easily my favorite corn tortilla I've ever eaten. The corn flavor really permeates throughout the tortilla while being incredibly soft. The beef was braised so well and a generous portion was added to the 2 tacos. And the chile sauce gave a nice tang and decent spiciness to the whole dish. The dish was served with great rice and flavorful beans. I also tried their carne asada which was a huge piece of tender steak. This was so soft that I legitimately was able to use a spoon to cut and eat it. It had such a peppery and smoky flavor to it. Lastly, make sure you get some pepper shrimp brochette. This is shrimp wrapped in bacon and it's impeccable. You don't want to miss adding this to any part of your meal. The manager and her staff were so friendly and attentive throughout our meal which we really appreciated. Typically, I'm not one to complain, especially since I work in the industry and understand how challenging service can be. However, my experience today was extremely disappointing and far below expectations. My brother and I brought our mother out for Mother's Day. The restaurant wasn't busy, and we were seated quickly, which was appreciated. I initially ordered a Spicy Mango Margarita, but it was too spicy for me, so I passed it to my brother and asked for a Dos Equis draft through the manager who happened to be dropping off our food. Unfortunately, the kitchen made an error with our order -- our fajitas were mistakenly taken to another table, then returned to us. While I appreciate that the manager ultimately brought out the missing portion, the entire interaction felt disorganized. That manager, however, was kind and professional throughout. The same cannot be said for our server. While some miscommunications are understandable -- for example, forgetting our margarita order and needing to ask again -- his overall demeanor came across as dismissive and borderline rude. Despite clarifying multiple times that I wanted a draft beer, he brought a bottled one. Again, not a major issue on its own, but these small missteps began to add up. Toward the end of the meal, we asked whether rice and beans for the fajitas would be an additional charge. The server said no but then added the charge to our bill anyway. I let it slide. He offered us dessert on "him " he said for the small hiccups. When we finished up I asked to see a dessert menu and he said if I wanted him to add it to my bill I said it thought you said dessert was on you he said oh yea. Brought us a menu but then told us we could only choose flan because that's what management approved -- again, not the issue, but the communication was unclear and felt misleading. After asking three times for rice, beans, and tortillas, he finally brought charro beans and salsa instead. At that point, I had enough and requested to speak with a manager. While I was calmly explaining the situation to the manager, the server stood next to another team member and openly stared at me. I overheard him say, "I'm gonna stand right here and watch this lady lie on me," which was shocking, unprofessional, and completely inappropriate. I was still planning to leave a $20 tip on our $180 tab out of respect for service workers -- we all have off days -- but that moment crossed a line. I respectfully took the tip back. In all my years in the industry, I have never witnessed or experienced such unprofessional behavior from a server. I do not recommend that anyone be seated in Gerards or section if that is the level of service he provides. Came here on a Sunday in May at 8pm. Wasn't seated until 8:35pm. Waitress did not get my food order until 8:55, 5 minutes before closing so I felt bad for the kitchen. I didn't know what was going on since the restaurant was at half capacity when I was sat down. The news stories about restaurants being understaffed must be true, but it's hard to feel sorry for chains that do not pay their workers enough or provide a positive environment to entice them to come back. Our waitress pointed out on the menu that you have to look for the vegetarian menu online when I asked for one; which annoyed me because it seemed like they were discouraging people from ordering those items by giving them an extra step. My mushroom lupe was okay although a bit overpriced. Perhaps it will trickle down to the workers. read more

Had a terrible experience at this establishment last night. (A Saturday night). Took my family here, table of 5. We got sat in a enclosed patio area, crowded in next to a larger party next to us whose patrons kept bumping into me and my sons from which I had to ask the patrons to stop and be more careful. The patio was freaking loud. Me and my family literally had to yell at one another during the entire dinner so we could talk to one another. Establishment isn't really creating a good ambience when your customers literally have to yell at one another during the dinner time experience. So close to 15 minutes for us to get greeted. For some odd reason, the server brought us, a table of five, only two glasses of water along with some chips. 10 minutes to get more waters and a few ice teas. Even my normally very patient Aunt was getting frustrated on how long it was taking to get some drinks cause we were thirsty. We ordered a large queso, which took long enough to get to the table that most of our chips were already depleted. Afterwards, the server promised to bring by more chips, which never came until after the entries were brought. I even mentioned this problem to a manager who came to the table and I let him know that our large queso was pretty much wasted because we never got any more chips and the manager never once offered to take care of or comp the queso because while I was complaining, the server finally came back with one more basket of chips. We ordered 2 pounds of beef fajitas. They came out, not sizzling, obviously been sitting in the window for a little while and weren't hot. Even still, the fajitas tasted great like they normally do so we enjoyed our food while we yelled at each other from across the table so we could hear each other. Got finished with our meal... had to wait around quite a while for the server to come back so we could ask for the check. Over 10 minutes for him to bring the check after I asked. After I gave my credit card I waited exactly 10 minutes, I even timed it with my stopwatch, and still the server had to come back with my credit card. Extremely frustrated we had to get up and head to the host stand so we could find the dang server so I can get our check. And of course, the server comes up out of nowhere at that point all smiles with my credit card. I expressed to the host to stand as well as a server my frustration that everything had taken entirely too long, and that patio was entirely too noisy for us to enjoy our dinner. Not either the host or the server offered to grab me a manager so I can let them know my frustrations by that point. I understand it was a Saturday and that server was busy. He looked like he was running around, but the amount of time we waited to be served and amount of time we waited for service during the meal was unacceptable. I don't know how this establishment runs in sections when it comes to servers or how many tables these servers are running at one time, but something needs to be looked into. I am very disappointed in this establishment. This used to be one of my go tos to take the family out to a nice dinner. I will not be returning anytime soon. read more

But what made it a great experience today was our waitress Amelia! She was cheerful and attentive and very sweet. Even the kids said she was very nice. When you walk in the restaurant the smell of beef fajitas makes your mouth water. There's often a wait and the wait is worth it. We sat in the bar area at a table and they were very spaced out. There are ceiling fan's in most of the rooms. The guacamole is really nice. We've had the prepared one and the table side versions. Both are good. The table side guacamole tastes fresher and you can request or omit ingredients to your liking. The queso arrived hot and tasty. Our table all had the fajitas and none were disappointed. I had an extremely unpleasant dining experience. During brunch hours, I ordered from the brunch menu and even pointed to the brunch section while ordering. However, when it came time to pay, the server charged me dinner prices. I pointed out that I had ordered brunch items and asked why I was being charged dinner prices. The server admitted he wasn't usually on this shift and had made a mistake. Then, he insisted I had to pay the more expensive dinner price because I had already finished the meal. That's ridiculous--how was I supposed to know he entered the wrong order? Why should I pay for his mistake? The server said he would check with the manager, but I'm not sure if he clearly explained that it was his fault for entering the wrong order. Regardless, the restaurant didn't resolve the issue. Everything else is as you would expect and is pretty decent texmex flavor and portion. My favorite Tex-Mex restaurant ever! You must order the steak fajitas!!! My group of 4 friends always gets stuffed from the 1lb of steak fajitas (even though the menu says it feeds 2-3). They have the most divine homemade flour tortillas in the world. Their free chips and salsa are amazing. Comes with spicy tomato salsa and a bean & bacon dip! Delicious! If you are visiting for the first time (or taking a friend to visit for the first time), they will give you samples of the steak fajitas! The restaurant is huge, but there is sometimes a wait.
