Service for lunch was great and food was delicious. Because it was so great our first time we invited our family for dinner and it was completely horrible. Starting with the server, waiter and MANAGER. We made a reservation at 9:30 and were seated at 9:45 due to them having a delay. when we checked in no one told us we only had 15mins to order our drinks and food! Our waiter rushed us to our our food and drinks because the kitchen was closing. We understood and ordered but then when the food was brought to us, the rice was undercooked! And when we told the waiter he simply said "the kitchen is closed so we can't give you more rice". The manager also just expected for us to accept the sides of rice uncooked, they never offered a solution at all! At the end the waiter told us "I convinced the manager to remove two margaritas from your ticket" as if they were doing us the FAVOR after we were served uncooked food! Never again will I be going there. People don't reserve after 9 if you don't want to be rushed. read more

Out of towner here that had to find a hotel WAY further away from the airport than usual out of necessity. Lupe was near my hotel and had high Yelp ratings so I went there for dinner. While I was looking at the menu, I was given chips and salsa and beans. I've only been to a handful of tex-mex places that served beans with the salsa but in every case, the beans were phenominal. Lupe's is no excepting. Only thing that gets me, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use it like a dip for my chips or use a spoon. I didn't have a spoon here so I took it that I needed the chips. I probably need to qualify my interest in the beans with the fact that I love beans and really enjoy beans and corn bread as a dinner at home. Before noticing the beans, I ordered the Poblano Chicken. I love chile rellanos but I prefer the versions that are grilled instead of fried, which is rare. The Pablano Chicken is essentially just that under a different name. I was given the option of a side of refried beans, black beans, or charro beans. I chose charro beans which ended up being the same beans as the the ones that came with the salsa and chips but this time with a spoon! The Pablano Chicken was great. I'll order this again if I find myself here again. When the waiter asked if everything was all right, I told him they needed the beans on the menu as a stand alone item, ie a bowl of beans, or a bottomless bowl of beans. He agreed that he thought they were great. Said other patrons have told him they need to have beans with tortillas and butter. I agree. Excellent beans. As far as the drinks, I missed happy hour. I wish it went a little later than 6:30. But the margaritas are good and not watered down. Beer selection is typical for a tex-mex/mexican place which is to say, it could be better. My biggest complaint is that the prices for each individual item is about 3-5 dollars more than what you'd typically find for something similar elsewhere. In other words, this is a above average tex-mex place but expect to pay for that above average. It's not a bargain. read more

This place is fantastic! The beans that come with the chips...DELICIOUS! I am not from Texas, so I used Yelp for a suggestion and this place had great reviews...we thought we would give it a try. It did not disappoint. I would have to agree with others, Jorge is a fabulous waiter...super attentive and very friendly. We were brought a plate, prior to ordering, with a sample of their steak in the fajitas. What a wonderful way to showcase their food. My husband and two kids ordered the Big Burrito with the beef from the fajitas. My daughter had the chicken flautas and I had a puffy taco and tamale....all were delicious. How on earth does this place have so many stars? The service is horrible, it took over an hour & a half to get enchiladas & quesadillas... like come on, my bf & I probably would've been more understanding if the waitress would've communicated, it wasn't until after an hour & a half that the waitress came to tell us "the kitchen is behind" I would recommend y'all do some training on communication, I am in the customer service industry, I would've been a lot more understanding if I would've been told the kitchen was backed up when we sat down.. other than the HORRIBLE service the food was good. I've eaten at several of the Lupe' Tortilla restaurants many times when I travel to Houston. It was my second time there (weekend of October 25th) at this location and once again it did not disappoint! My better half was hooked the first time I took her here 2 years ago. The service and food, in my opinion, are very consistent and great! Kudos to Lupe' Tortilla and it's staff. Do yourself a favor and get the fajitas when you go to Lupe' Tortilla. We were out and about so we stopped for lunch. My hubby and I got fajitas chicken and beef. They were awesome! They were so tender and the flavors were amazing! My son got ground beef enchiladas. The only thing that was bad was the onions that were put on the enchiladas after we asked for no onions. They did take it back and fix it. My son said the enchiladas were just okay. They were greesy. I guess because they had a lot of cheese. Our waitress Emily was great! She was very attentive and my drink never was empty. Great place for Mexican food, although we waited almost and hour to be seated (if you have little ones you know that's to long) we were with a party of 13 people , it was very very loud and our waiter was serving two big parties , he did as well as he could. When I'm in the mood for Mexican food, namely fajitas, Lupe is the place for me! Parking can be difficult, as it is always crowded when I go (Friday or Saturday evenings, of course). If you need to wait for a table, they take your cell phone number and text you when your table is ready. The dining room is always busy and sometimes noisy, and somehow they manage the floor very well: correct food comes out, regular checks on chips/dip and drinks, checking in on how things are going. My friend and I share the "Barbacoas" fajita platter that is meant to serve 2-3 people, and we always take leftovers home and turn it into another meal for two (maybe we just have small appetites?). When given the choice between flour/corn tortilla, I like that the servers can sense my indecision and offer the suggestion to get both! Give Lupe a chance. Sure, they cost more than Taco Cabana, but they also taste way better too! read more

Let's start with pretty cool place to walk up to. Upon walking up I noticed they have an awesome outside seating area, it has fire pits and chairs to relax in and eat. There's also another patio area to eat outside on beautiful sunny days and relax and take in some sun. Walking in it's kinda tight but for the seating it's okay. The food is awesome ! I had fajitas which by the way are awesome everything is hand made including the tortillas. Everything is fresh and sizzling when it comes to your table. The restaurant itself is very authentic including the decor. The staff is very knowledgeable in what they sell and have for specials, The pricing is alittle higher than most Tex-Mex or Mexican restaurants but that's only because everything I mean everything even the chips or hand made. Bailey our waitress made us feel right at home, since it was our first time in Houston, TX and just visiting from Dallas, we've never been to a restaurant that had great tasting meat and freshly made flour and corn tortillas!! Not in Dallas!!! We can't wait to see this franchise in the Dallas Fort Worth area, because the one's we have here like "Los Lupe's Sucks". Got the salmon omelet, holy smokes, salmon dry af, omelet dry af, where was the poblano and the where the hell was the Chile lime hollandaise sheesh?? Smh. And the answer to this dilemma was yup throw some queso on it geez. Beans blah, potatoes same. Are y'all afraid of salt holy moly??!! I don't even eat meat but I would have let it pass in the beans just for some flavor ugh in conclusion super underwhelming won't be back, y'all need to hire guy fieri for a day or two or someone's abuelita to show yall what the hell flavor is about. Let's start with the chips and "Salsa"- de gallo? Imagine you've made pico de gallo and you're down to the bottom of the barrel, that's what their salsa is like texture wise. The taste is mild with lots of Mexican oregano. It's soooo watery that every scoop you take with your chip is sure to drip all over the table before it reaches your mouth. No bueno, The bean dip everyone claims to be so good on the reviews left me wondering what the fuss was about. Service was adequate albeit a tad slow but we were there with the after church crowd and the place was packed. I ordered the Vegetable Fajitas- mushrooms, onions, and peppers marinated in too much lime. It came with actual pico de gallo and guacamole, sour cream, corn tortillas, bland black beans, and my choice of broccoli with cheese or corn- two of these things are not like the others?! I asked if I could just have rice instead and that was no problemo. My meal came deconstructed on no less than 47 plates, I thought maybe I ordered a box from Blue Apron on accident?! All was fairly drab and normally in that situation I would pile on some salsa for flavor but I didn't want watery tacos. I could have used some cheese or lettuce or maybe even the sour cream that my plate(s) were supposed to come with to help jazz it up a little. This was one of my favorite restaurants. The service here today is one of the worst experiences that I have had in my lifetime. An hour after ordering our meal, still no food and the waiter has no idea when the food is supposed to be delivered. We asked for our checks for our drinks and there were not in a hurry to give our checks. The manager came out to offer his apologies for our service, but wanted to make sure we were going to pay for our drinks. His apology was just as bad as our service. We found this place by accident and we are so glad we did. We have been here 4 times now and the food has been stellar every time. Get the beef fajitas and street corn if it's in season. Extra tortillas. They make them there and they are both, corn and flour, so awesome. I get extras and bring them home. We drive from Dallas down to eat there that's how good it is. This last time we also tried the filet mignon fajitas, the beef has more flavor. Definitely try them, you will not be disappointed. They have lots of outdoor patio seating, fire pits and a cool bar. I took off one star because of the change in salsa. Their original salsa fresca was the best salsa in the world, bar none. While the new one, that is more traditionally pureed, is good, it doesn't hold a candle to the original. You can still get the original by asking, but it's a quarter a serving.
