This place is packed every time I passed by so I had to give it a try. Ordered bean and cheese burrito and they did not disappoint. The portion was large and delicious. I can't wait to try their carne asada burrito. Most of the people came here for pick up and they have small private parking lot but it gets full quick and people park on the street.

If you're looking for an amazing bean and cheese burrito, then look no further. Lupe's has one of the best in So. Cal! They use a soft, flavorful flour tortilla that makes all the difference. They have a full menu of other goodies, but my go to here is the BNC.

I was influenced to try Lupe's Tacos since I was already in the area, and I'm glad I did. The wait was about 30 minutes. They didn't look super busy at first, but they had a lot of phone-in orders -- so pro tip: order ahead if you can. I ordered three crunchy tacos two shredded beef, one ground beef and they were honestly some of the best crunchy tacos I've had in a while. The cheese, meat, and lettuce ratio was perfect. The guacamole was really good. The salsa was very hot alittle too spicy for me personally, but great if you love heat. The staff were really nice and welcoming, which always makes a difference. And they're definitely Dodgers fans over here, there's Dodgers signs all over the building, so you can feel the hometown pride. They do have a small parking lot. Just be mindful when driving up if you miss the entrance, you'll have to circle all the way back around because of the Metro line nearby. Overall, definitely worth it

Went to this place with family and was told by my sister in law that they went here since they were kids and I was excited to try it because of that fact and knowing that told me that this was a community staple which was true because it was pretty busy when we arrived. They had decent menu with burgers and hotdogs and tacos and burritos I wanted to try it all but I was told that I should try the combo green which I got! Let me tell you it was the business! The beef was so tender and the combination of the chopped green chili and cheese was the best and so flavor packed that it was practically a wet burrito because by the first few bites it was busting through the seams and I had to use a fork ahha all good because I love wet burritos anyways! The crowning glory was the hot sauce man that was potent! I love my hot sauce and that almost made me break a sweat not that it wasn't spicy at all i definitely felt it but I'm just used to eating spicy food and this little ramekin of spice certainly tripped me a bit and dumping that on top of my burrito was chefs kiss. Places like this never surprises me as the saying goes "if the menu looks old, if the place looks old and worn and if the place has three different kinds of style of food" it almost is certainly going to be great and this place lives up to the name! Truly an LA staple! Definitely when I'm in the area I'll be coming back to try their burgers, pastrami chili cheese fries and the tortilla hot dog haha I already have it planned out! For me 5 stars! :)

Why didn't I learn of Lupe's much sooner?!?! I seriously was missing out!!! My boy and I came here around lunchtime and it was busy! We were lucky enough to find street parking since it's scarce in the area. I ordered a few items for my first time, which I was craving from social media videos. I ordered the following: - Two dorado tacos. Ground & shredded beef - Bean & cheese burrito - Small horchata While waiting for our orders we were able to score a table. My order took around 30 minutes, which was understandable from the volume of people ordering. Once I got my order I was ready to chow down! Both tacos had a generous amount of beef and cheese combined with a very crispy and crunchy shell! The burrito was loaded with a hefty portion or refried beans and cheese! Every bite I took of the burrito, refried beans and gooey cheese rushed out of the tortilla! The horchata was sweet and refreshing. My new must go to spot if I'm craving dorado tacos and burritos. Wish they had locations of Lupe's in the Bay Area.

Good food, but not worth the inconveniences. My husband and I tried this place last weekend, and it was BUSY. Granted, it was a Saturday around 11 am, but we waited almost AN HOUR for our food. Also, there was very little parking; we had to park two blocks down because there were so many cars and so very few parking spots. They also don't have a bathroom, and the cashier was literally telling us to go to another business to use their restroom? Very unprofessional and inconvenient. We went to the other business they mentioned, and they also didn't have a restroom. Literally no restroom around that area. When I was waiting by the side for our food, they were calling numbers out of order! 42, 45, 52, 47, 54, 49.... What's the point of having numbers if you're not going to call them in order? It was so hard to gauge when my number would be next. They have some seating in the shade which is great, but seating fills up fast on a busy day. Onto the food: I got the California burrito as it comes, and my husband got the chicharron burrito. His was very spicy. They warned him that it was so so spicy; they even let him try the chicharron before he got the burrito to ensure he was okay with the spice. Their hot sauce is absolute fire. It's spicy and tasty and goes super well on the burritos. My husband also got fries, but they were undercooked and needed more salt. They were still good fries, but they would have been better if they were a bit crispier and saltier. The staff was also nice and they make sure to give you napkins and hot sauce with your order. But all of the inconveniences listed above have deterred us from coming back.

This is the first time eating at Lupe's and I'm loving it. The food is very good with meaty juicy burrito. I love the spicy sauce and it's spicy indeed! The parking isn't the easiest but the ambiance gives a very cool vibe with friends and lunch benches. The service is friendly and definitely a place for juicy burritos!

Can't say enough good things, just moved to this side of town a little while ago and have been looking for a burger spot that sales authentic old school Tams like burgers and i have definitely found it. everything down to the pastrami the tacos it was all delicious. the staff was very friendly and accommodating. small parking but no big issue the area where you eat was very clean as well and again all around just a great place to eat!!

Family owned Mexican food spot in East LA that has been in business for over 50yrs. They specialize in 12 kinds of burritos including their infamous bean and cheese. I have only tried the crispy tacos. Tacos dorados. You can get them with shredded beef, ground beef or potato. The taco shell is fried to order. The cheese is hand shredded and they add lettuce, tomato and this red/orange creamy spicy salsa. It's very spicy but flavorful. The service is great. Staff is friendly. The vibe is dope. LA Dodgerstown signs, vintage LAD bobbleheads and more. Mostly known for takeout but they do have tables and seats outside. Small parking lot. Free Street parking as well. Highly recommend.

This place makes a MEAN burger!!!! I ordered the J.A burger which comes with 2 patties, cheese, pastrami and bacon, both green and red chiles, guac, mayo, lettuce, and grilled onions. It's a pretty beast burger but it's so damn good. The guy that took our order was nice and made me the recommendation to me. The fries are crispy as hell, nice and soft in the middle. Perfection. The parking lot can get packed and a bit of a hassle to get out of, but other than that there's plenty of outdoor seating and waiting areas for you to chill until they call your order. Cool place. 10/10

Est. 1972- There is so much good stuff on-line being said about Lupe's, so I had to check it out. With over fifty years on the clock, Lupe is doing something right. I've seen many social media posts saying, 'The best burritos in LA . . . The best tacos in LA . . . The best Mexican food in LA', Etc. While there is a lot on the menu, the most popular items seem to be, the Combo Burrito with Green Sauce, the Bean & Cheese Burrito with Red Sauce, the Tacos Dorados and the Chili-Burger with Cheese. I tried them all. The Combo Burrito with Green Sauce is excellent. Loaded with steak and gooey cheese, this burrito is one of the best I've had. The Bean & Cheese Burrito with red sauce is also excellent, but it's incredibly spicy. The red sauce has two names: La salsa del diablo, and Salsa del infierno. If you can't handle hot, get the Bean & Cheese with green sauce. Don't even look at the red - it will burn your eyes!! Also good are the Tacos Dorados. They are smaller and greasier than expected, but they are tasty. And finally, I ordered the Chili Cheese Burger, with no lettuce. This was my least favorite item. It was still good, but not something I would crave (like the Combo Burrito, etc.). Regardless, Lupe's is great. The food is delicious, the service is friendly and they keep the tables clean. Bottom line, Lupe's has the goods. I'm a fan!

Lupe's is a small food stand that serves Mexican food. It's been around since 1972 and it still has that old school charm. FOOD I've tried the burritos, tacos, taquitos, and fries here. I think all of the food is good. I can't say any of it is my favorite but is good comfort food. The bean and cheese burritos have red and green options that cost a little more. These are just regular bean and cheese burritos with sliced red or green peppers added. SERVICE They've always been friendly to me here. During peak hours, the wait can get pretty long though. RESTAURANT This is a small food stand so you aren't going into the building. There are a few tables outside. PARKING There's limited parking here. They have their own parking lot. It's free parking and again, very limited. The lot is cramped so I prefer parking on the street. Street parking is free too but also really limited. During peak times, a lot of people park on the left side of the street (I think it might be a loading zone)

This place is an iconic classic in east LA. Been coming here for years. Some of the best Dorados tacos in town imo. Fast, easy, for lunch and dinner. My go-tos to order here are the dorado tacos, California burrito and taquitos. Can't really go wrong with anything. It gets pretty crowded for lunch, so phone orders are always a good idea. Best for outdoor seating on a sunny day! There's plenty of parking and outdoor seatings. Love the park by lot vibes in the heart of East LA!

Lupe's Burritos Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Lupe's Burritos

Is the green chile hot that comes in the bean burritos? What about the red?

The green isn't hot very mild

    Hey what's up

Are the bean and cheese burritos with refried or whole beans?

refried beans , i recommend the cali burrito , no meat .

What type of salsas do they have?

They have a very hot red Chile salsa

Is this owned by the same family that operated Lupes on State and Pomeroy years ago? They had the kitchen sink burrito that was bomb!!

    Is lupes open today 11/29/2019?

    No not at this hour

    Are there any vegan options?

The burning question here is how are the beans made? If they are made traditionally with lard, then the bean burrito or tostada would not be vegan.

Do they still have the Friday Special for bean and cheese burrito?

I was there in early January and they still had it

Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. They have recently amped up the filling in the delicious crispy squash blossoms and I love the acidity and heat. The fish is also a hit in my books. One dish that doesn't work for me is the lamb chops, which is a shame since it's my favorite protein. I've ordered them multiple times with clear instructions on temperature and have found them overcooked and tough. The beef tostada was just ok. Whilst I loved the pickled veg on the side, the beef was underseasoned. It wasn't bad - just not up to the standard of other dishes. The vibe in the place is welcoming and the restaurant is nicely appointed. We will continue to be regulars and it's really worth trying if you haven't been yet.
