    Food Truck on Friday Afternoon
    Jonathan L.

Mariscos Jaliscos has been on my list for a while now. This lint season i have been on a Mariscos journey trying out new spots in the ELA/BH area, especially on Friday's. Mariscos Jaliscos is a simple, humble and easy going food truck that easily beats any sit in boujee restaurant. Their menu is simple and easy to understand. Mariscos Jalisco is best known for their Fried shrimp tacos however, they have one of the best aguachiles I've tasted hands down. Their shrimp tacos are absolutely amazing with the right crunchiness and soft fried shrimp inside. The sauce that comes with these tacos are jam packed with flavor adding to the overall flavors/texture of the shrimp taco. Hurts to say it but this might be my new favorite shrimp taco in ELA/Boyle Heights area. The service here is quick and friendly. I went on a Friday afternoon and did not find busy crowds at this food truck. Street parking is available and the times that i've visited other food trucks nearby i was able to find quick parking. Its a busy street so you will find people coming in and out of parking spots most of the time. I enjoyed my experience here at Mariscos Jalisco and will be coming back very soon. You all need to come to this place.

Seafood Tostada and Tacos! Apparently, I should've tried their shrimp fried taco though. Dishes (ranked by best): 1) Mixt Ceviche Tostado: contained shrimp, fish, and octopus 2) Fish Ceviche Tostado Logistics: -CASH ONLY -very limited free street parking -you order at the truck and there's indoor seating next to the truck

We ordered the tacos dorados de camarón ($3 each) and they were honestly the highlight--super good, piping hot and packed with a lot of shrimp. They come topped with salsa and avocado which adds a nice balance to the crispy taco. We also asked which aguachile was spicier, the red or the green, and they recommended the red, so we went with that. The 16 oz aguachile rojo ($20) was definitely spicy and comes with avocado and tostadas on the side, which made it great for sharing. Service was quick on a Monday afternoon, which was nice. The only downside is parking--street parking is pretty limited. They do have a small lot but it's $10 valet, so just keep that in mind.

There's street parking to get here and even that could be tricky. Expect to parallel park. The line moves quickly and the staff are nice and friendly. The food is ready fairly quick. They have an indoor seating area with some simple tables and chairs. There's restrooms available. I got the shrimp tacos. They were hot and fresh. It's a nice crispy crunch with each bite. It's flavorful and the avocado is a nice touch. The sauce used keeps the plate wet which might make the tacos soggy. But I actually ate all three tacos quick enough to avoid that issue just cause they were that good! It's definitely worth a try!

CASH ONLY! Why??? Not sure if I've been spoiled by the La Cienega food truck, but I literally had to pay $5 in fees to take money out of the ATM. Not worth all the trouble. How do I rate a shrimp taco I couldn't pay for with my credit card? DO BETTER!

The shrimp tacos are way over hyped. I ordered two and barely could taste the shrimp. The campechana and ceviche tostada were good though. Nothing special about the food truck service. They have a cool dining area. I wouldn't care if the tacos were more money, but put some shrimp in them.

This place is awesome!!! such a hidden gem! They mainly sell more seafood than meat, but it's still amazing!!! the service is wonderful! they have a place for you to sit inside and it's super clean.

the aguachile roja was very flavorful and spicy. the tacos de camarones were also delicious. they're cash only and prepared relatively quickly. lots of nearby street parking too

My husband had been craving these shrimp tacos. We used to go to 4 vientos but their quality changed. These shrimp tacos are similar but a little more flavorful. He also got the tostada with agua chiles on top, little too much going on with that. Over all food was good. They have a small hall set up with chairs and tables to eat.

This iconic LA food truck can be found on the streets of Boyle Heights. The hard-shell shrimp tacos at Mariscos Jalisco are an iconic LA dish. They're consistently recognized as one of the best bites in LA and they're worth $2.75. I don't know everything that they put in this taco, but there's definitely shrimp, avocado, cabbage, and salsa in a hard shell and it's delicious. If you're looking for LA's best street food, then this is a top spot to check out! Even as a street food taco trunk, they've been recognized by the LA Times as one of LA's top 101 restaurants since 2013. They took LA Times' "Gold Award" in 2024 as a top spot for one of the best bites in LA.

Fact: Mariscos Jalisco has the best crunchy shrimp Tacos in Los Angeles. Evidence: The crunchy shrimp tacos from mariscos jaliscos are the gold standard of crunchy tacos. Expect a deliciously fried taco with a perfected formula filing of shrimp and potato. It's moist, but not mushy, crunchy but not charred. Unlike any taco you've had, it's worth the drive. Staff is friendly, and the location has an indoor seating room right next to the food truck.

Came here after a recommendation. The tacos were alright. I'm not the biggest food truck person. The taco salsa was the best part. I would have gotten salsa alone if I could. The tacos seemed like a mix of grounded shrimp and whole shrimp. I'd say standard. Plenty of seating inside. It was really quiet. Standard service.

If you're in East LA and craving shrimp tacos, you have to go to Mariscos Jalisco. This place seriously has the best shrimp tacos -- they are consistently amazing. They never miss. Every single time we order, they're crispy, flavorful, and perfectly made. They also make for great leftovers! The service is always so friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. My family actually makes this our go-to spot before events -- we'll order a big batch of tacos to take with us, and they're always a crowd pleaser. At about $3.27 per taco, it's a great deal, especially when you're ordering in large quantities. One thing to know: they're cash only, so come prepared! But they make it super easy for big to-go orders. They pack everything up so thoughtfully -- salsa, hot sauce, avocados, limes, utensils, napkins -- all ready for parties or gatherings. We love this place so much. Definitely one of our all-time favorite spots in LA!

Ask the Community - Mariscos Jalisco

    Do they do/have shrimp substitute?

    Is it cash only?

Cash only for the most part. They piloted CC payment but I guess it didn't work out.

What's the sauce that goes on top of the shrimp tacos? Is it just salsa? I'm planning on ordering for to go- will they pack the salsa on the side so the taco doesn't get soggy?

Yes even now when we order. The sauce is on the side in a cup and they just give you an avocado for you to cut slices yourself.

Is the Mariscos Jalisco in Pomona owned by the same owner?

Yes, it is! They have 5 locations.

Are the tacos fried in lard?

I'm going to say probably not, only because lard has a very distinct flavor and these taste more like they were fried in some type of vegetable oil.…

    Do they accept Venmo?

    Cash only

Are there gluten-free options? I am hoping it is all corn products.

Yes. Mostly seafood and mexican food. They offer corn tostadas and corn tortilla for their tacos.

Whats the other location they have near Gardena?

The Gardena location is open on Fridays only at S. Figueroa & 140th St.

Anyone know where I can buy the habanero hot sauce "Sinaloa" they have here?

You can buy the abanero sauce at any Mariscos Jalisco location

When I first arrived, I gave them the name of our reservation, and the staff had no idea what I was talking about. We were a party of 6, yet they seated us at a tiny table that was clearly not appropriate for our group. When it was time to order, my husband very clearly told the waiter which pasta he wanted and even showed him a picture of the item on the menu. The waiter looked at it and agreed. My food came out, but my husband's food never did. We eventually found out that his order was never even put in. What made it worse was when the waiter came out saying, "Oh my God, I thought you said you didn't want it." Everyone at the table looked at him completely confused because my husband had literally told him what he wanted and showed him the menu item. Instead of simply acknowledging the mistake and fixing it, we were left waiting. On top of that, trying to get anyone's attention was nearly impossible. We had to repeatedly try to get someone's attention just to get basic service. Then there was another issue with the entrance fee. My sister-in-law had messages showing that we were told that if we ate at the restaurant, we would no longer have to pay the entrance fee. We showed those messages to the woman handling the wristbands, but instead of looking into it or speaking to someone who could clarify the situation, she simply said, "I don't know, you have to pay." No attempt was made to investigate or resolve the issue. After everything that happened, they still added a tip to the bill, despite the extremely poor service we received. Overall, this was one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences I've had. Poor communication, poor service, lack of organization, and no effort to make things right. I definitely will not be recommending this place to anyone, and we will not be returning.

The service was impeccable--everyone was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel special. We had to get the Michelada Oysters again because I had been craving them since our last visit. They were just as amazing as I remembered--fresh, perfectly seasoned, and seriously addicting. For Dine LA, I started with the Tostada Campechana, which was like an elevated ceviche with scallops, tuna, yellowtail, avocado, and a citrus sesame sauce. Everything tasted super fresh and the citrus gave it the perfect balance. The Bone Marrow Mole was rich, flavorful, and came with a generous portion and toast. For my main course, I had the skirt steak, which was cooked perfectly--tender, well-seasoned, and delicious with the green sauce. The homemade tortillas were amazing too. The menu is simple but seemingly well thought out. Prices were good for LA. I ordered a carne asada burrito 2.0 and a medium cucumber lime agua Fresca for less than $20 total. At the time we came in, the restaurant was virtually empty, which was a relief because this location is quite small. Food came out quick, and someone brought it out to where we were sitting. It comes with some radish, a grilled green onion, a lime, and two of their salsas (a salsa verde and what I believe is their chiltepin salsa). Right away, you can tell the quality of the tortilla from the feel and the slightly translucent look of it. Upon giving it a taste, I'd say it lived up to the hype. The tortilla was flavorful and chewy, and the meat inside had a fresh smoky flavor from the grill. While I prefer refried beans in a burrito, I could tell the beans were cooked well too. Altogether, I have no complaints. Is it a life changing burrito like some make it out to be? Maybe not. To me, it tasted like a few very well executed ingredients put together rather than a transformative dish. But for the price, I think it's very impressive. You just don't get a tortilla like that anywhere. The agua Fresca was very good too, and with prices of aguas frescas pushing $12+ at some places, this felt like a great deal. I would say I recommend the pepino limon over the coconut horchata, which was just a bit bland.

Since they live in an area with limited Mexican cuisine, I chose Guelaguetza, a James Beard Award-winning restaurant with authentic Oaxacan recipes, something completely new to them. They were excited to try something different, as they don't have many Mexican food options where they live, and I wanted to expand their culinary horizons. We were greeted with complimentary chips - some were drizzled with mole and Oaxacan cheese, which we requested refills of, and others were served with red and green salsas. The green salsa had a nice kick to it. For our meal, we shared two large dishes: the Festival de Moles ($53.00) and the Tlayuda Guelaguetza ($27.50). The Tlayuda Guelaguetza, which is also called a Mexican pizza, was layered with bean and chicharron spread, queso fresco, cabbage, quesillo, beef tasajo, pork Cecina, and pork chorizo. While I've always wanted to try Tlayuda, this one wasn't good, and I wouldn't recommend it. The pork chorizo was particularly unappetizing, and neither my parents nor I enjoyed the dish, feeling it was a waste of money. The Festival de Moles ($53.00) featured four individual moles - negro, rojo, coloradito, and estofado - with a choice of shredded chicken breast or pork spare ribs. We opted for a mix of both and found this dish to be excellent, and we would definitely order it again. They were very impressed with the moles, and enjoyed them for the first time. The only minor complaint was a lack of tortillas to dip with the mole, though they did provide some rice. We ordered several drinks, which significantly increased the bill. I was surprised we spent $200 on lunch for three people with only two meals. I started with the Pasion De Oaxaca ($16.00), a mezcal, tequila, passion fruit, grapefruit juice, and tajin cocktail that was excellent, perfectly balanced, strong, but not too sweet. For my second drink, I had the refreshing Aquas Frescas - Jamaica ($6), which was perfect after my meal. I even took it to go, and they kindly provided a cup. My dad ended up taking it, as he needed it with his medication (they're old!). My parents, who were trying mole for the first time, were very impressed and really enjoyed it. Our only minor complaint was the lack of tortillas to dip in the mole, although they did provide some rice. The food took a little longer to come out, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. I imagine this type of cuisine is labor-intensive, and you can't rush the cooking time for mole. You just have to trust the process! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Guelaguetza Restaurante and will definitely be back. I can see why they're a James Beard Award-winning restaurant; you can get authentic Oaxacan flavors in LA! I tasted mostly the breading, which closely resembled a spice mix used in fried chicken, and the spicy sauce was quite overwhelming relative to the gentler, sweeter nature of the fish. On the plus side, the mayo accompaniment was quite lovely. I must say their tortillas were their best offering. Crunchy, light, and fresh. You could really taste the smokiness from the grill.
