Avoid this place. On March 22, 2026, around 8:45 AM, I walked in and was told they don't open until 9:00 AM--which is fine. However, when I politely asked if I could wait inside, the employee immediately told me "no" and ordered me to leave. The entire interaction was in Spanish, so there was no misunderstanding. When I asked why the door was open if customers weren't allowed in, he responded, "I was waiting for someone to ask me that," with a smug, confrontational tone. His demeanor was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. This wasn't just about being closed--it was about how a potential customer was treated. If this is how they handle a simple interaction, I have no interest in giving them my business. There are plenty of places that treat people with basic respect--this is not one of them

Review for the breakfast burritos only. I've been here many times over the years and Roberto's always delivers on their breakfast burritos. I love getting the hashbrown deluxe which has all the different meats, eggs, cheese and hashbrowns. It comes out hot and loaded with all the goods. It is quite large so you have to be pretty hungry but it's delicious. There is a self serve salsa station. I like the 2 mild green and red salsas. There is a hot red which is good but really spicy.

Got there just before closing time

Was in the area and was hungry, between Roberto's and Jack? Robby's WINS!! But run it back, it was 9:26 when I walked in, the place was being clean and it was CLEAN! Dude cleaning was very polite telling me they were already closed! ‍ If I was working I would wanna get out of there in time and I've been coming to Robs forever so I wasn't gonna make an issue out of it! I wish I was offered something like that"hey, we can only make roll tacos or chips or something instead of just CLOSED! lol... But Roberto's is an institution in SD, will be back!!

One of my favorite to go places when I am at work around this area. My favorite entree are the California burrito with guacamole added, beef, menudo (very authentic), chicken tostada bowl and their rolled tacos with everything on top. Their rice and beans are good too! Everything is always cook fresh after you place your order and it's usually less than 15 minutes wait. My other favorite part of the restaurant is their salsa bar, it is soooo good! They have green, red and mild salsa. You can tell they make their hot sauces in house and I always pack extra to use with my other meals plus I love hot sauces. The restaurant is always clean and tidy when I visit. Plenty of parking spots and tables/seats. The staff are always friendly. You can pay with card, cash or apps on the phone such as Apple Pay etc.

    California burrito

Disappointing to say the least. $15 for California burrito with added guacamole. French Fries were old and stale and meat was salty. Pico de gallo in salsa bar was too spicy for a basic tomato salsa and also salty which was weird. Just not good at all!! If I had eaten it there I would have asked for a refund.

I picked a place off Google but when we landed there we were not comfortable stopping to park, so we looked again and decided to check out La Puerta not realizing it was in the Gaslight District. I am not a fan of the Gaslight District, which is why I am so mad!! I'm going to HAVE to go back to the Gaslight District!! The food was AMAZING!! I HIGHLY recommend the Potato Flautitas. It's the kind of dish I'm going to dream about, I'm salivating now just thinking about them. I also did the Pick 3 Street Tacos (and actually ordered a 4th). The Ranchero Shrimp and Grilled Veggie were top notch. The Conchinita was recommended by our waiter, and it was interesting, tasty but different. It could have used a little more pickled onion. The only one I would not recommend (shockingly, I thought it would be the easy pass) was the carne asada. It was too greasy. My husband ordered a carne asada quesadilla and said the same, it was too wet and soaked through the tortilla. But there were no many other delightful options, I would say just don't go traditional. But honestly my favorite thing on the plate was the side dish rajas con crema, seriously, that alone is going to drag me down to the Gaslight District. I'm even considering going to a Padres game just for the excuse. I'm salivating again! As for our waiter, Colin, he was fantastic. Very informative, made great suggestions and seemed genuinely pleased by our satisfaction. He was smiling the whole time, friendly and stayed very present. I highly recommend you get yourself through the door at La Puerta and sit down for a meal ASAP. (We ate the food so fast I forgot to take pictures.)

El Festin- perfect for our party of 4 because it was a platter full of 4 Cheese quesadilla, 4 shrimp, 4 chicken slices, 1 jalapeño bacon wrap, ribeye. Flan-we should have each ordered one ourselves! Service was excellent as well. Our waters never ran empty and after apps, they gave us new napkins to set our forks and knives down while they took our small plates away. They even offered to give us a new set of forks and knives. I think it is small details like this that make a difference. The most prominent detail I really liked about this location was the ocean view. We made a reservation for outdoor seating, and had an amazing view of the ocean and sunset. Parking was a little difficult. There's only one row for free self parking, but it is very limited. They offer $10 valet which I had to do because I could not find any parking. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. Because this restaurant is a more high-end / upscale restaurant, I would recommend this location more for a special occasion or date night rather than a casual place to eat.
