Why in the world was this California burrito so good? I'll tell you why! The grease? Nonexistent! The distribution of ingredients? Nearly flawless! The salsa verde? Immaculate flavor profile with just the right amount of tang. The price point? Sub-$16 for a hefty California with plenty of guacamole and sour cream is a godly sight in this day and age! In all seriousness, I was legitimately impressed by Gualberto's California burrito in Kearny Mesa. Everything I said above is true, and it was a really hefty burrito, with well-seasoned carne asada that was chopped to the right size and had zero chew. A truly wonderful burrito. The cashier was a super friendly and welcoming young woman who made me feel at home instantly. She also gave me extra salsa verde when I ran out--no surcharge, no "only 2 per order" stinginess. Came here for lunch on a weekend, wanted to try the fish taco, and got the big plate, which includes 2 rolled tacos, a tostada with beans, and a crispy shredded beef taco. Also got a horchata. The staff were all very friendly and nice, helpful with suggestions when looking at the menu, prices were pretty reasonable for what we got. 2 drinks, a fish taco, and big plate only ran $20 for everything, fed both of us. The shop is small, likely get more carry out service than dine-in. I have no big complaints, the big plate was a good sample of everything, and the ingredients tasted fresh for the price we paid. The batter on the fish taco got soggy pretty quickly, flavor wise it was just ok, I wasn't super impressed by it. Overall, nothing stood out as exceptional, but no big deal breakers, a convenient spot to get some quick Mexican food if you are in the area. read more

Wanted to try a new burrito spot coming home from San Diego airport. Easy access from the 163. They were very busy with call in orders so I would recommend doing that to avoid a long wait. The weight was about 10 minutes for me at 7:45 AM. Customer service was outstanding. Technology is great for any type of payment. There's room to eat inside the restaurant, atmosphere is typical for San Diego's Mexican restaurant, and adequate parking available. I asked for one of each of their four salsas they offered along with my breakfast burrito. I did not like their roasted/hottest sauce, or their tomatillo green sauce. Their chunky salsa was the best followed by an average avocado sauce. The burrito was built well, beans were excellent, and there was plenty of bacon. I give the breakfast burrito an A minus and the two sauces that I used in the B category. Prices are reasonable for what you get. Overall, I'll be back. read more

I ordered 3 breakfast burritos with asada add crema. I liked how they had potatos that were grilled instead of fried...(Just an attempt to not eat fried food all the time). The burrito tasted like a standard breakfast burrito, nothing to write home about and the red sauce was the same. It was also a little small for the price but it did the job. First I'm gonna say, just another Mexican takeout; however, my son just flew into town and it was rather convenient coming north from the airport (pick one it doesn't matter) just up the 163 before MCAS Miramar is the Kearny Villa exit. There it was. I went into the clean and refreshed bathroom cause I had been driving for a while and asked the wife to buy whatever. We enjoyed a breakfast burrito of eggs, cheese (or lack of), plenty of plain potatoes and plenty of (the expensive part of the burrito) crispy-cooked salted smoky bacon. The bacon made the burrito. My car had broken down and luckily I was able to find out about Gualberto's 2. The restaurant was simple, clean and welcoming. The customer service was great and the food was served quickly. They had plenty of choices to choose from the menu but I stuck with my tried and true carne asada and chips. Carne asada was tender and seasoned enough for my liking. We ordered and within minutes -- food was ready to go, I ordered the daily special which was a carnitas plate with lettuce, rice, beans and fresh flour tortillas. After having passed this unassuming taco shop countless times, I finally tried it out. Seriously an impressive experience at Gualberto's 2 this morning! First off, the staff picked up my call-in order near instantaneously. Upon asking which salsa I'd like and replying with the options, she offered to include one of each. Much appreciated. Based on others' recommendations, I opted for a ham breakfast burrito. While I'm no breakfast burrito connoisseur, it is absolutely one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I mean, it's pretty hard to go wrong with a massive flour tortilla packed with fluffy scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheese, and meat. Yet, isn't it fair to say that not all breakfast burritos are created equal? In this case it was far above average and exceeded expectations. For a more than reasonable $6.50, I was greeted with a MASSIVE burrito. The fragrant smell--even while wrapped--a foreshadowing of the amazing-ness about to come. I seriously couldn't wait to try a bite of this thing. Even without a drop of salsa, it was incredible. Deliciously seasoned potatoes, perfectly cooked eggs, and an abundance of ham. Going to the beach and looked for something convenient just off the freeway. This place had great reviews. I wanted to give them 5 stars because the food was amazing as well as the staff. The loss of the 5th star was just because it was so hot inside. We were in the middle of a heat wave but doors were open and it was hot inside. Anyway. We Ardennes a fish burrito and taquitos. We also looked around the room at others food. Everything we saw look well put together and flavorful. I had a very good and large breakfast burrito from the this Mexican Taco Shop. It came with ham, eggs, cheese, and potatoes, not fries. The eggs were well scrambled and seasoned. The ham was plentiful and savory. The burrito came with a good amount of cheddar cheese and they went light on the potatoes just the way I like. The flour tortilla was of good quality. I tried both hot sauce, the red and the green, but although they were both quite good, the green avocado salsa really shined in flavor and a little mild heat. Good stuff indeed. I ordered a #1 breakfast burrito add sour cream, cheese & potatoes. He had a pre ordered burrito on the counter that he grabbed out of the bag & handed it back to the cook telling him to add the extra items. I told him i saw what he was doing that it was not ok to give me an old burrito that was sitting on the counter. Also $18 for the burrito! Started eating the burrito & no potatoes they put rice.... Probably one of the best rolled tacos I've had in a very long while! Be careful, you may miss this unassuming establishment if you drive too quickly. The parking layout is a bit confusing and we ended up turning around and still driving into the wrong lot! The service is very friendly and the dining area is clean with the staff wiping down the tables soon after people leave. Now let's get back to the star of the show: they are well known for these rolled tocos and I can vouch for their reputation. The rolled tacos are fried and perfectly crispy with a generous heaping of guacamole, sour cream and cheese. My only regret is that I didn't order more of them!
