My wife and I went here for a date night. Food was not good at all. I got the chicken bacon Swiss with red potatoes, & my wife got the French dip with a side salad. We got the pretzel as an appetizer.... The pretzel was greasy and so was the cheese they gave with it. The cheese seemed frozen, then microwaved. It had a really dull/greasy taste and odd texture. The French dip was like rubber. And the au jus sauce was bland. For her the best part was the side salad. She even said her beer had an odd taste to it. My chicken sandwich had no flavor. The red potatoes where severly over cooked on the outside and under cooked on the inside. My drink (the house black cherry cream soda), was really good the first glass! Second glass was flat and very syrupy. The server briefly came by a couple times. He would quickly ask "everything ok?", as he rushed by. He wasn't horrible, but he wasn't great either. Overall we where very unimpressed. Not somewhere we'll be returning to. For the price, I had better expectations. read more

We stopped in for a late lunch today while our car charged. We sat outside because of our dogs. Table was dirty and had not been wiped down from previous guests as there were ketchup drops on the table. My husband had gone inside to use the bathroom and brought out a menu. When the waitress came out, we ordered drinks and food right away. We ordered the hummus and veggies (which came with celery, tomato, pita, cucumber, and tortilla chips) and the blanca burger plain (specifically said no lettuce, tomato, onion, or pickles and asked for a well done patty when she brought our drinks out). She brought our drinks. She brought our food. No napkins or silverware. She did not check on us again until we were finished with our food. She came out to ask if we wanted a to go container and we both said no, and asked for the check. My burger was not well done and it had a pickle on the plate and the fries were gross. Like they had not been fried all the way? Not entirely cooked or something. I took a bite and spit it right back out. My husband was disappointed in the hummus plate because the hummus and pita were both cold. Straight from the fridge onto the plate. Maybe change the celery to carrots? Maybe warm up or toast the pita before serving? Positives: good bathroom, dog friendly outdoor patio with dog treats at the host desk. Our dogs enjoyed the treats which is why I added another star. Otherwise, this was a one star experience. Passing through from Abiquiú NM to Denver. Would not recommend. Would not return. The 3.3 stars on Yelp is overly generous. I would say it's closer to a 1 or 2 star restaurant. 0-2 restaurant experiences in Alamosa (see my other review for Lucha, another loser). I don't think our expectations are too high to have good food and good service when you pay $50+. read more

Popped into this brewery on our road trip and let's just say this was such a great stop! The food was delicious! We started off with their Bavarian pretzel with queso and it was one of the best pretzels we've had. Soft and fresh out of the oven! My boyfriend had their beer flight and said that each beer tasted good. He ended up getting the patty melt with onion rings and was very impressed! The sizes of our meals were huge! I got the crispy chicken Caesar salad and the chicken was the star of the show! I sometimes am nervous about getting crispy chicken on a salad because I feel like it can be hard to get right but I found myself wanting more of the chicken on the salad!! A bad review needs more description than just "I had a bad meal" - entrance is confusing - as a result... they didn't greet us - going to a table became awkward as a result of that... - there were maybe 3-4 other tables seated at what should be a much busier time. - menus looked disgusting, i had a hard time touching it. - food options look gourmet... they don't come out like that - my chicken sandwich had zero flavor, except the grill. - salad had too much dressing - kid meals were decent according to them, but nothing special. - our server was nice, but nothing more than order food and bring it. Wow this place was empty on a Monday night. Maybe 6 other people there the whole time we were there. Overall the food was good. We got cheese sticks, BLT, patty melt. Fries were good and they have good ranch. The beers were good. However the service is lacking. Lots of young kids who could really care less about you and seem annoyed when you ask for basic things. Doing the bare minimum really. Also the bathrooms are rough. Very dirty. So was the bar counter when we sat down. Makes me question how clean the kitchen might be. Oof. read more

San Luis Valley Brewing is a great place with a relaxed atmosphere to grab a drink and a bite to eat. We visited for a meal for our son, while we just had drinks. I'd likely come back here for food, because they had several vegetarian and gluten free options. My one complaint is that we assumed our son's apple juice was part of his kid's meal. Then the server refilled his drink. We then got a shock at check time when we were charged an extra $7 for something that we thought was included. I wish places like this would be transparent, rather than sneaky about these up charges. That was a turn off. read more

I got some raw fries, a Philly with an unpeeled onion in it and nasty, rubbery wings. I asked for a refund and was DENIED??? Never tasted like that any of the other 75 times I have eaten there. What's up with the AWFUL customer service? How can you tell me food is fresh when you didn't eat it?? INSANE. The owner, Angie, was contacted. She insists this is quality and refused to refund my money. I will not boycott the Brewery and encourage all my friends to eat elsewhere as well! I think we hit about a half a dozen brew pubs on our recent trip from Wisconsin to New Mexico and back. Compared to those, and about a hundred other places I've visited for beer and food over the years -- San Luis Valley Brewing sits comfortably in the middle. For my beer I went with the oatmeal stout. It was lighter than I expected but still sufficiently dark and flavorful. I could detect caramel notes along with a subtle infusion of hops. It was a tad sweet on the palate but not cloyingly so. To eat, I decided on their green chili guacamole burger. It was a pleasant stack of beef, roasted green chili (a specialty of southern Colorado and New Mexico), guacamole, cheese, lettuce, and onion and hot sauce (which I added to my taste). The available sides listed on the menu included roasted red potatoes, which appealed to me. Unfortunately my plate was delivered to the table with waffle cut sweet potato fries. I wasn't paying attention and started to eat them before realizing that I originally wanted something else. Was it a mistake in the kitchen or did I goof up? I'm leaning toward the kitchen as I'm positive about the what the menu said (see the menu photos on Yelp) and I know what l ordered. If the kitchen needed to sub an "eighty-sixed" item the customer should always be consulted first. Anyway, I decided not to send them back and I ate them. Even though they were a tad limp, the taste was okay. Alamosa is a relatively small city so dining options are limited. A good, though average, brew pub is an asset that I am always happy to discover. read more

We stopped in for lunch. The kids enjoyed the corn dogs from the kid menu. I got a BBQ burger that was pretty good and I enjoyed the BBQ sauce that came with it. I had a flight of 5 or so of their small cups and the best were the Amber Ale (which I took a 6-pack home afterwards; it kind of reminded me of Breckenridge's Avalanche Amber Ale at first, but then has a second flavor to it after a few moments) and the Mexican Lager (I'd call it a standard version of this). I also tried their cowboy chili, which was decent. We also got a buffalo chicken salad, which received positive feedback. The staff was friendly and took care of us well. The food was amazing!! The service was terrible!! It took over 10 minutes for the bartender to pour our beer. There were 6 total people in the place including us!!! Mainly because she was more interested in talking with the four guys at the bar and consuming her own drinks. The waitress, Bre, was amazing and was very attentive. First I understand there were a lot of people in town for the car show but it was the middle of the afternoon when we went in for food and drinks. The ambiance of the place is really cool. The drinks were good. Our service was quiet lacking. We never received the appetizer we ordered. One of our beers took a long time to be delivered. The burger I had was good but the bun to meat ratio is way off. The bun is cut in a way that the bottom bun is almost non-existent and basically melted away. The top bun is too thick. We stopped here after leaving the Sandune's national park, and had lunch and a couple of beers. First of all, maybe it's because I'm a city slicker, but I was really surprised by how low priced everything was on the menu. That's always awesome. Our server was incredibly charismatic and attentive, despite being really busy during the lunch rush. the food was really satisfying and they had some unique items on the menu. The restaurant offered both outdoor and indoor seating, which felt very spacious with high ceilings. I absolutely loved the exposed brick next to the seating booths. For lunch, I had a chicken cordon bleu sandwich with a side of green chili, and was really really happy with both. I love how readily available green chili is in southern Colorado. I thought the chicken cordon bleu sandwich was unique and wonderfully prepared. For beer, I really really enjoyed the green chili craft beer which had a distinct tingle From the spice. Any time we passed through Alamosa I would love to stop here for that green chili beer. read more

Made sure to sit at bar given the previous reviews about service wait times. The bartender was nice and patient. Food is okay but nothing special. They were out of tortilla chips. The spinach and artichoke dip was the most plain I had ever tasted in my life- salt brought it to edible. The sausage plate was tasty but the quesadillas (chicken bc they were also out of carne asada) were as dry as could be. This place is so nice and has outside seating available. Atmosphere is laid back, modern industrial and comfortable! The gentleman that seated us and was our waiter was friendly and low key, but he did a great job! The beers we chose were some of the best we have ever had. I got the Mexican style beer and my husband got the American style beer ( I cannot remember their specific names) but they were excellent! The food was top notch! My favorite pub food is fish and chips, and I have never had better, anywhere. Crunchy on the outside and flakey on the inside. My husband loved his Green Chili Burger as well. This brewery is located in an old bank and when you visit, make sure to check out the safe behind the cool bar. Service is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed with plenty of space between tables and cool art on the exposed brick walls. While the beers on tap are good, you should also plan on having something to eat as well since they have a nice selection of comfort food. About 8 beers on tap, most of them year round hand crafted brews along with seasonals. A must when in Alamosa! read more

Giving this brewery 4 stars because there aren't many other options to select from for dinner in Alamosa that isn't fast food. The food and beers were average. The Mexican lager beer was an easy drink. The IPA was nice but didn't wow. The food is typical up scale bar food in terms of flavor profile (such as a southwest salads with locally sourced chorizo) but aren't going to amaze you. There are some unique options such as a mushroom pasta (which we did not try). It is a large space, the staff is friendly, and a nice spot to grab a bite if passing through or want something more and healthier than fast food. read more

Great decor - feels like a place I'd want to spend time in. We had a hit and a miss on food. The Sausage Sampler was really good, an enjoyable treat that you won't find elsewhere. The nachos - oh boy - you have to put effort into making nachos that bad. Undercooked, almost-raw chewy chunks of beef on top of below-average chips, with little in the way of toppings for flavor. That we left about a third uneaten is highly unusual for us. As for beer, the Ol' 169 Oatmeal Stout was good (not great), and I'd say the same for the Royal Gorge Route Rogue. Overall, I like this place, but there's heavy competition for our business on our trips through Alamosa. read more

A nice place to get lunch! They have good burgers and good beer! A lot of the lowest rated reviews mention long wait times for food. That was not what I experienced. Everything came out in a timely manner and was fresh. A new cook just started the day I came and the only issue I had was my burger patty was supposed to be well done, but it was switched with my husband's and I got his medium/well patty and he got the well done patty. We didn't realize this until about halfway through eating our burgers and at that point we didn't feel it necessary to send them back. read more

We opted to order from the happy hour menu. Then the good times started. from the time of order to receiving food, it was an hour. The restaurant was getting more and more full, but our order was in way before the masses arrived. What was worse was our server disappeared. No updates, no sorry it's taking a while. Only reason for taking off a star. Food received. Wing sampler was just ok. We prefer fried/crispy wings. These are baked. Of the 3 flavors, I liked the chipotle bbq the best. Chicken Cordon Bleu was delicious. I totally forgot to take a picture of the food because as soon as I took the first bite, I so had to finish it all. The Swiss cheese and ham was stuffed inside the breaded chicken. If you want something different that no other places has, this chicken cordon bleu is for you! Bathroom is clean.
