I wanted to surprise my wife for dinner, so I decided to try a new restaurant. I discovered Lusitania here on Yelp being that I was in the mood for paella, and this place didn't disappoint. The paella was delicious and plentiful, especially with their house sangria. Our server informed me that she made the sangria as she poured me a nice glassful. We had their delicious fried calamari as an appetizer, but their paella was so delicious and plentiful, we wound up taking home a nice size take out bag. We'll definitely be coming back with friends as their menu looks appealing with Portuguese favorites. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 due to their out dated 1970's decor, but that will not stop me from going their again with either my wife or friends.

I don't remember being to Yonkers but with my happy feet I may have, before my Yelp days. Anyhow, Lusitania (Portuguese) Restaurant is apparently a Yonkers community secret. There's a sign on the front Street which I absolutely missed and only noticed as I looked for one when I was leaving. I was escorted to the side (red) door and I kid you not, I thought some type of mafia ish was about to go down! Hey what's happening I ain't strapped! Inside there's a bar to the left and the dining area on the right. We chose to dine because we were here to celebrate. The dining room is super small! Small so that you hear everything that everyone else is saying, you and that stranger's elbow touching. I didn't like that much as I'm super private and borderline germaphobe-ish. I think the couple next to us weren't fans either because after they whispered their order they said nothing else for the rest of the evening. Nothing. They did however exchange smiles with each other.  I didn't count but it looked to be about 8/10 tables in there. I heard the food was out if this world good so I was really looking forward. We had the seafood paella which I kid you not had more seafood than rice! All that wonderful shellfish made me squirm with delight! We also ordered a steak. It comes slightly pre-cooked on a portable grill so you get to finish it to your taste/texture. The best part about this was the sauces! Three of them were served with our meat and there was one particular with garlic and other seasonings that was so good I was putting it on everything! The house wine tasted a bit off. The food is reasonable to the point of cheap! I enjoyed the food but it didn't meet the expectation set. I hate when that happens. I'll try again. Maybe a lamb dish next time because the neighbor's looked so good.....I wonder. The End.

The open rotten hole in the lobster claw with black rotted meat

We were excited to try this Portuguese "Seafood" restaurant. I ordered the stuffed lobster. The stuffing was fine, but the lobster was totally rotten! It was black with dried up rotten meat and large holes in the crumbling shell. It looked like lobster cancer. The owner apologized but said that "it happens when you keep the lobsters in the refrigerator for a few days." Really?? The owner said, "We got lobsters fresh on Thursday, and we kept them in the refrigerator since then." - Well, tonight is Sunday- 3.5 days later! No wonder they were rotten, and: 1) why didn't the 'chef' notice that the lobster was rotten? It was pretty damn obvious! What a horrible chef! 2) How can a restaurant that boasts to be about seafood serve 3.5 day old dead lobsters and defend their freshness!! They're not; they've been dead for almost 4 days before they were served. I wasn't going to write this review, but I decided to, because I think it is disgraceful to serve OLD rotten seafood in a place that promotes itself as a seafood establishment! The seafood should be 100% fresh & lobsters should be alive until cooked! - I left there thoroughly nauseous! Yes. The owner was very nice and didn't make us pay for our meal, but shame on him for thinking that it's okay to serve nearly 4-day old dead lobster! I guess there's a reason why there's not a single positive restaurant endorsement on the face of this restaurant: NO Zagat, NO Best of Westchester, NO nothing!! Eat at your own risk!

One of the things we loved most was the family-owned feel and seeing so many locals and Italian families dining there -- always a good sign that the food is authentic and well-loved. Big menu even if you have non-seafood eaters. They definitely have the cool factor down pat, and are very welcoming. Got a Connecticut lobster roll on the waiter's recommendation. It had plenty of lobster even though it was a small piece of bread (they promise 1/4 lb). They used primarily claw which can be a good thing, although in my case it's not my favorite part; for a lobster roll I love when it's a mix of all of the lobster, with my favorite part being the knuckles. The meat was good quality, however there is very little butter and only some chopped scallions. Read: bland. Plus it came with a small bag of Lay's plain chips. For $30, I expect better than that. My son's fries were alright (also bland), however my wife's half chicken with corn looked great. Would come again however not rushing back. Pretty expensive for something that didn't come close to 'wow'. They seem to have good ingredients, so it's just a matter of elevating them a bit better. More style than substance right now.

The baked clams and mussels were outstanding, and the crusty bread was perfect for soaking up every drop of sauce. I added jalapeños to the Snow White pizza and it was incredible. The dough had the perfect chew and flavor. My boyfriend's chicken parm was massive--two huge cutlets--and easily a 10/10. The seafood pasta was equally delicious. Dessert was the perfect finish: frozen espresso, refreshing lemon sorbet, and a giant tiramisu that's big enough for a crowd. My only small complaint is that guests pack their own leftovers. At this level, I think the staff should handle that. Otherwise, everything was fantastic. We'll definitely be back!

Unfortunately, he was extremely dismissive and simply said no, then added that there were no tables available for us--which was odd considering the group right after us got seated immediately. I'm not sure if it was how we were dressed or what, but his overall attitude felt very cold and unwelcoming. We ended up sitting at the bar, and to be fair, Bill did help coordinate with the bartender Ana to get us seats together, which I appreciated. Ana herself was kind and attentive, though when we asked for food recommendations, she mostly just said "everything is great." I personally prefer a bit more honest guidance. For food, we shared the Hot Honey Roni Sicilian, Caesar salad, and calamari fritti. The pizza was definitely the highlight--super delicious and satisfying, especially as my first time trying that style. The Caesar salad was good, but for $16, I found the portion a bit small. The calamari was also solid, though we didn't love the sauce it came with. While we were eating, Bill noticed where we had placed our bikes (near the stairs where we could keep an eye on them) and came over rather abruptly, asking why they were in "his garden." Even after my friend apologized, he just walked away. His overall presence throughout the visit really hurt the experience--definitely not the kind of hospitality you expect. Overall, the experience was okay. The drinks were good, and my friend and I always make the best of things, but for the price point (about $80 each with two drinks and tip), I expected better service and slightly more generous portions. I'd consider going back, especially if we're biking in the area again--but next time, we'll definitely bring bike locks...and avoid the garden
