Thick cut Portuguese bread and red sangria for starters.
    Edmond C.

I stopped by Lusitania Seafood after a show at the Planetarium of the Hudson River Museum and I'm glad I did. Lusitania may not be on the headlines, but this Portuguese restaurant is highly priced by the locals and it shows. You walk in and walk by the bar on your left with a number of men watching the soccer games. People are speaking Portuguese and Spanish here. It's an authentic crowd here. Keep walking further back past the restroom and you'll see a dining room ahead and another down and to the left. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor is simple. This is a straight up place that does not emphasize the atmosphere, but keeps it simple and focused on the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Things will be fairly priced and, for what you get, they were. Jocelyn, my server, was great the whole time. I ordered the sangria, which does not appear on the menu. They can make a large or small pitcher of sangria, red or white, for you and it is filled with fruit, apples and oranges, diced up. They use a quality red wine for their sangria and lots of diced fruit. It makes for a quality sangria experience at Lusitania not found everywhere. Sangria is often an afterthought and many restaurants and bars do not take the time to make a proper Sangria. Jocelyn brought me a glass of ice water with a slice of lemon without me having to ask. I ordered the sizzling steak on a stone and the Mozambique prawns. I ordered the fries to accompany the steak and rice and vegetables with the prawns. The bread Jocelyn brought out is incredible. It's some type of Portuguese bread, white, thick slices, and very much like sourdough, but apparently it is not. Whatever Portuguese bread it is, you will like it. The butter is nothing special, the kind of butter in plastic squares with a film you peel back served in diners everywhere. On the bread theory serve at Lusitania, the butter tastes better. The steak and shrimp came out together as I asked. I ordered the steak medium rare and it came out sizzling hot. The flat stone will keep cooking the steak, so you are advised to take it off the stone and put it on a side plate to avoid over cooking it, which I did and later returned it to the dark flat stone to warm it and allow for reaching a true medium rare. When it comes out, it has only been flash seared, so you can decide what temperature you desire. The steak, a thick sirloin that would be priced around seventy at a steakhouse, is coming in under thirty here. It's not as tender as a steakhouse, but it is flavorful. The flavor is not relying on salt. The quality and tenderness is not at steakhouse level, given I doubt if there is any wet or dry ageing at Lusitania, but the flavor is coming through. They serve the steak with three sauces, horseradish, garlic and herb, and some type of spicy mayonnaise sauce. The fries were fresh cut and very good. The Mozambique prawns were huge as they should be. They serve three prawns with a large cup of sauce that had butter, garlic, and cayenne pepper as best I can tell. Perhaps a little paprika too. It's a very impressive dish. The shells are pre sliced, so you can manage to eat them with a knife and fork. Dipped in that sauce, your palate is very happy. The rice and carrots, string beans and broccoli are not overcooked. The veggies are cooked with a little garlic. The red sangria was a perfect accompaniment to the prawns and steak. The next day, the leftovers were delicious. Jocelyn had thoughtfully packed the sauces and I'm glad she did. I spread the butter on the spread and then spread the garlic sauce accompanying the steak on top! Folks, do this and thank me later! That steak was still good and everything tasted as good as the evening before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I walked out of Lusitania, I had met Jocelyn's sister, I had met the couple next to me and another person across from me who does a lot of fishing on his own. I even met the owner, Jose, on the way out. Lusitania Seafood is a special place and well known by the locals. Everyone I met was a regular.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Lusitania Seafood will make a regular out of anyone who comes for the first time as I.

I wanted to surprise my wife for dinner, so I decided to try a new restaurant. I discovered Lusitania here on Yelp being that I was in the mood for paella, and this place didn't disappoint. The paella was delicious and plentiful, especially with their house sangria. Our server informed me that she made the sangria as she poured me a nice glassful. We had their delicious fried calamari as an appetizer, but their paella was so delicious and plentiful, we wound up taking home a nice size take out bag. We'll definitely be coming back with friends as their menu looks appealing with Portuguese favorites. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 due to their out dated 1970's decor, but that will not stop me from going their again with either my wife or friends.

I don't remember being to Yonkers but with my happy feet I may have, before my Yelp days. Anyhow, Lusitania (Portuguese) Restaurant is apparently a Yonkers community secret. There's a sign on the front Street which I absolutely missed and only noticed as I looked for one when I was leaving. I was escorted to the side (red) door and I kid you not, I thought some type of mafia ish was about to go down! Hey what's happening I ain't strapped! Inside there's a bar to the left and the dining area on the right. We chose to dine because we were here to celebrate. The dining room is super small! Small so that you hear everything that everyone else is saying, you and that stranger's elbow touching. I didn't like that much as I'm super private and borderline germaphobe-ish. I think the couple next to us weren't fans either because after they whispered their order they said nothing else for the rest of the evening. Nothing. They did however exchange smiles with each other.  I didn't count but it looked to be about 8/10 tables in there. I heard the food was out if this world good so I was really looking forward. We had the seafood paella which I kid you not had more seafood than rice! All that wonderful shellfish made me squirm with delight! We also ordered a steak. It comes slightly pre-cooked on a portable grill so you get to finish it to your taste/texture. The best part about this was the sauces! Three of them were served with our meat and there was one particular with garlic and other seasonings that was so good I was putting it on everything! The house wine tasted a bit off. The food is reasonable to the point of cheap! I enjoyed the food but it didn't meet the expectation set. I hate when that happens. I'll try again. Maybe a lamb dish next time because the neighbor's looked so good.....I wonder. The End.

The open rotten hole in the lobster claw with black rotted meat
    Margo K.

We were excited to try this Portuguese "Seafood" restaurant. I ordered the stuffed lobster. The stuffing was fine, but the lobster was totally rotten! It was black with dried up rotten meat and large holes in the crumbling shell. It looked like lobster cancer. The owner apologized but said that "it happens when you keep the lobsters in the refrigerator for a few days." Really?? The owner said, "We got lobsters fresh on Thursday, and we kept them in the refrigerator since then." - Well, tonight is Sunday- 3.5 days later! No wonder they were rotten, and: 1) why didn't the 'chef' notice that the lobster was rotten? It was pretty damn obvious! What a horrible chef! 2) How can a restaurant that boasts to be about seafood serve 3.5 day old dead lobsters and defend their freshness!! They're not; they've been dead for almost 4 days before they were served. I wasn't going to write this review, but I decided to, because I think it is disgraceful to serve OLD rotten seafood in a place that promotes itself as a seafood establishment! The seafood should be 100% fresh & lobsters should be alive until cooked! - I left there thoroughly nauseous! Yes. The owner was very nice and didn't make us pay for our meal, but shame on him for thinking that it's okay to serve nearly 4-day old dead lobster! I guess there's a reason why there's not a single positive restaurant endorsement on the face of this restaurant: NO Zagat, NO Best of Westchester, NO nothing!! Eat at your own risk!
