My family and I celebrated my niece's HS graduation and her and her brother's birthdays. It was over 30 of us. The service, although a bit slower was excellent, and considering how many of us were there, it's understandable. They honestly gave us time to celebrate since we were sharing gratitude, tips for the new college student, and giving encouragement speeches - which we appreciate and never felt rushed. So the slower pace supported our intentions. Ambience was very nice in the section we were in. Anything we needed was quickly handled. The main male waiter was super friendly, made us laugh and was very attentive. A female waiter, although quiet and looked serious (I first thought she was angry but realized it was just her serious personality), was still very attentive and quick to help. Food was ok. Considering I live in NJ, I certainly wouldn't drive out of my way to come back, but it was decent. We started with very fresh bread and butter (my mom and I agreed it was very good), then a tasty thin-style pizza. A plate of cheese, meat, olives was fresh, followed by delicious pasta and then a very well dressed and highly flavored salad. I ordered chicken parm - although it lacked a little flavor including the cheese that didn't really taste, feel or look very fresh, the chicken was thin and crispy and the veggies that came with it were yummy. My family ordered salmon and eggplant parm - mixed overall feelings but it sounds like the salmon was a bit hit! Finally dessert and coffee was nice - Italian style cookies and fresh fruit (pineapple, watermelon, melon). We brought our own cake and they were nice enough to slice and serve everyone - they even gave us to-go containers for the rest which the family split. Would I go back for another event? Yes. Been to this restaurant many times and it's always good. The owner, staff and servers are extremely welcoming and kind. The food is amazing. Note, this is more traditional Italian than Italian American. With that said, the chicken francese is one of my favorites. The eggplant Parmesan is amazing extremely thin with a lot of flavor. A lot of the salads are very fresh and not drowned in a lot of sauce. This is a really nice place if you want something more authentic and nice decor. read more

I order my favorite dish Chicken Parmigiana and spaghetti with red sauce. The waiter very well dressed and professional took my order. I said to myself wow this is fancy I'm going to enjoy this. Especially when the waiter said $27.00, please. So I get my food and drive 5 minutes home still really excited to eat my meal from this fancy-looking restaurant. I set up my table everything looked delicious. The cheese still looks hot and the spaghetti also. I grab my steak knife and attempt to cut the chicken cutlet to my disappointment it was hard to cut. You know when you cut into a chicken cutlet it's supposed to feel smooth while cutting it. The chicken was hard to cut and while you cutting the chicken you got a grinding feeling on the knife, I knew I just wasted my money. I bite into the piece of chicken I struggle to cut and immediately have to spit it out, disappointed after all this work. The chicken was like biting into a piece of rubber mat, so sorry but true. At this point, I didn't even make an effort to try the spaghetti. We all know what happened here the chef didn't take pride in his work and put something out of his kitchen something that the proper chef would not eat. I'll stop there no need to stress I learned my lesson, last time there. Maybe something else would taste better but I'll never find out. Mamma Francesca helped me create a terrific surprise birthday brunch for my husband. When I was first scouting for a location, the chef (also owner) Nicholas emerged from the kitchen to meet with me. He pulled up a chair, and we got down to business. By the time we finished chatting, it was clear that Mamma Francesca was the restaurant for us. Nick took notes as we spoke, generously accommodated my substitutions to one of their pre-set party menus, suggested tweaks which served only to improve the menu, and told me not to worry about the final number of attendees - there would be enough food for all. And there certainly was, delicious and abundant. Sixteen people chose from among the fish, chicken, beef, and eggplant parmigiana entrees, and every guest thoroughly enjoyed his/her choice. All of them plan to return. The success of the dishes was exceeded only by the success of Mamma Francesca's service: professional, warm, and careful. I feared this might happen, and it did -- my previous great experience was not repeated on my last visit. Because of our large group (8), we wanted to have separate checks (4 couples) to make things easier for us since some don't drink, some opt for pricier options, etc. However, unlike last time, our request was denied. We were told that their computer system would not allow it, we would be waiting for hours for our food because of a graduation party group in the other dining areas, etc. Every excuse under the sun, and with an attitude, not the hospitable hosts we experienced on our previous visit. Then when paying the check (after doing the math ourselves at the table), we were not warned of a credit card "fee" (quite common these days, unfortunately). Subsequently, I asked to credit the charge in exchange for cash payment (after a confusing argument with the waiter about the additional fee). All told, these simple matters could have been avoided by the establishment. Instead, they chose to take a hard-headed approach, disregarding customer satisfaction as a necessary concern of theirs, leaving a bad taste in our mouths. I am always impressed by this place, we live a walking distance away so it's not uncommon for us to have lunch or dinner here, they accommodate gluten free diet so that's a nice start. But what stands out if his friendly and inviting the staff is, you never feel like you're asking for too much with any request. Most importantly is the food is great. Recently my wife and I were looking for a place to host our son's baptism celebration and we inquired, the manager Marco was able to give us the details and break down the charges while answering all our questions so nothing would be a surprise. We did some research and compared some other restaurants but ultimately decided to book here. On the day of the event I arrived early to drop off a cake and the space was already set up nicely and ready to go, my guests were very impressed and happy with everything. The option we chose was delivered as promised and the staff went above and beyond, Oscar was in charge of our party and made sure we had everything we wanted and that we were comfortable. This place took the cake for horrible food! I had the lasagna it was supposed to be homemade. It was literally like dog food, a ton of meat and dried noodles with little sauce. My friend had the zucchini flower appetizer, and it was completely inedible more like a deep fried tempura with mozzarella! God, awful food will never go back. Went to mamma Francesca last week to taste some food to possibly book an engagement party with them in the future. The service was great and the waiters were very attentive constantly filling wine and water glasses and asking if we needed anything. Food was mediocre. We ordered fried calamari which was all breadcrumb no calamari. We got the cold antipasto which was lack luster. We ordered penne vodka which tasted pretty standard. Entrees on the other hand were delicious. I ordered the filet of sole piccata which was flavorful and delicious. I wouldn't say that the entree was delicious enough for me to return though. My husband and I ordered the fried zucchini and mussels with fra diavolo sauce for our appetizers and we were truly amazed. Fresh, flavorful, and delicious! What a hidden gem! Great venue for intimate or large groups. We were a party of 60+ attending a graduation celebration in a separate private area. Such a great atmosphere and the staff were so friendly and patient. There is also an area overlooking the Long Island Sound which can be hired for smaller parties (up to 30). Impressive service - everyone within our party received their individual orders simultaneously. You quickly forgot you were one section of a large restaurant. Food was delicious. I had the pleasure of co-hosting a mother-daughter luncheon on Saturday, June 15, 2024. The service team was led by Oscar who was assisted by a delightful server. The service was very professional, well organized and Chef Nick's meal was delicious and served hot. The salad and bread were nice starters. The desert tray was a nice combination of cookies and fresh fruit. The restaurant prepared a very nice menu for our meal and we had a lovely view of the marina. This address has seen businesses come and go and remember coming here when it was 787- a Puerto Rican hotspot with local Salsa bands. But...in comes Mamma Francesca. Looked forward to their unlimited Brunch but that was a negative- as Mamma doesn't honor Buffet-Style on Mother's Day. Menu offers basic Italian dishes with about 6 or so Appetizers and about 10 Entrees. Mom had the Surf & Turf Angus Sirloin Steak, while my husband had it without the shrimp. My daughter had the Vegan Funghi Cavatelli and liked it. And I had the Salmon Piccata- which was salty. Mimosa's bubbly to oj ratio was off. And the Avocado Stuffed with Crabmeat felt more like Guacamole. Though I will give them credit for using real Crabmeat and not imitation. Style was all over the darn place. You had wood accents in one nook. Then you had a huge red quilted seating area. Then there was the Harbor view seating area- that had orange walls on one side, kiwi green walls on the other- with an odd fluorescent/colorful ceiling. Mismatched at its worst. Service was all over the place too with a frazzled waiter. On several occasions, looked like we weren't even on his radar and needed ongoing reminders to fill waters or remove plates. Hostess was doing double duty as a busboy. Two waitresses looked like they were struggling balancing plates. Busboy tried multitasking and began clearing finished plates and glasses into his bin that rested on a chair- while everyone Brunched. I didn't get it. And still don't get it. For the record, Mamma wasn't totally horrible- they just need to get it together. I just felt for Mother's Day a new and refreshing menu should've been offered instead of putting out the same dinner dishes they regularly do. I had fish which was ok and then vegetables- that's it... oh then 2/3 piece of bread.No salad which is odd in an Italian restaurant. Usually in an Italian restaurant other sides appetizer are served, separate from the order. I was in Italy last summer so this was not authentic Italian style. Ambiance was ok. The service was poor The restaurant was empty and I waited more than 10 minutes to lemons for my fish and also to get a 2nd glass of wine. Then they removed our plates and waited more than 30 mins to see if we were finished, I was never asked if we wanted another drink or dessert. I really wanted dessert but I was really disappointed and just asked for the check. I was disappointed because I used to take my mother to this restaurant,the service and food was great. Warning- long review: Yikes, I feel awful having to give a negative review especially given the current times but whomever reads this that might run the place can look at it as constructive criticism. Last night we were a party of 6 seated at 7:30. The main dining area only had 3 other parties of 5 or 6 people as well. All the tables were seated before us. The disappointed comes down to poor management. Our waiter was the only one staffed, he played both waiter and bartender and attempted his best. The bar was jammed packed. I'm not sure if the owner was playing DJ but the business was able to afford that but not help their waiter? The priorities seem to be in the wrong place. There should always be at least 2 waiters on a Friday and Saturday night. We felt like we walked into 1997. The first thing I noticed was the space was dated and we were the youngest party there, all of us being in our early-mid 30s. The DJ was playing things Frank Sinatra but when he wasn't walking around serenading a table of women in their mid 40s, perhaps early 50s the tunes was 90s popular dance songs. It was so loud we could barely hear each other talk. It didn't make any sense. White Christmas lights- it's March, a giant Red plush, fake plants, and wall sign that says "EAT". Nothing about it screams an Italian, welcoming, restaurant. Because of the inefficiencies and lack of staff we were greeted after 20 minutes and didn't get our drinks for maybe 30-45. They ran out of martini glasses, Peroni was on the menu but were out of it. What was redeeming was the food, for the most part. We ordered two orders of baked clams and fried zucchini flowers. The clams were a hit, large clams and nicely breaded. I enjoyed the sauce. The zucchini flowers, 1 portion was not big enough to share with 6 people, we each got 1 flower but was good. It took us another 20-30 minutes of us waiting for our dinner. From what I observed while waiting for the food one gentleman from an earlier seated table walked into the kitchen. They were celebrating a birthday and had 2 custom cakes. Finally our food arrived. I had the veal sorrentino (veal scallopine, proscuitto, and mozzarella cheese with a light red tomato sauce). which was nicely portioned and able to make two meals out of. My friends ordered the shrimp francese and lobster and shrimp raviolis. Their feedback was that there was inconsistencies with the preparation. My boyfriend liked his lobster ravioli but my girl friend found her shrimp overcooked and then one piece would be raw. My friend's boyfriend felt sick the rest of the night and into today. Two hours later, the final kicker was when paying, there was a note saying if you play with a credit card, "you will be charged a 3.99% credit card fee". Get out of here, cheap move. Two stars for our waiter's attempt to making things right by us given the situation he was placed into and comping our espressos and 5/6 of us didn't get sick from the food. read more

Nick and his staff provided us with superb service and food that was true to great Italian tradition, in the spirit of an earlier era when grandma made gravy (yes, "gravy") on Sundays, cooked the pasta to perfection, and made dishes that were true to original Italian style (make sure to try the cavatelli, broccoli rabe and sausage). The amazing thing about this restaurant is that the dishes are absolutely authentic and served in a gracious, heartfelt manner, in this case in a dining room for 34 people where you really feel like home, (except with a view over the harbor)! We live very near this place but have been in quarantine practically since moving to the neighborhood. With Phase 3 starting, we thought it would be nice to visit a restaurant as opposed to just ordering. The sign says water views. We called on Friday to see if they have water view dining on Sunday. They said sure. We asked for 1 pm reservation and they asked for our name. We went there today and told them we had reservations. The person folding napkins (didn't bother to get up) blurted "We don't take reservations". We asked for water view outdoor dining. Five stars - hands down! I came with a large party of 50 people - who were all starving - since we just had arrived around 2:30 after a baptismal ceremony. I'm sure few had breakfast, and even fewer had any lunch. The restaurant was properly staffed and spared no time in bringing over large generous portions of appetizers to every table. As soon as we finished our delicious cold antipast, A hot plate of fried calimari was on its way. This type of service continued the entire time we were there...no one sat hungry waiting for their food to come, or needing to ask for more water, etc., the staff was on it and had it handled! After eating 4 appetizers (shared family style), 1 pasta and 1 entree - I can honestly say that everything I had was delicious! I LOVE the sauces that they use to season the meat - especially the chicken martini! It's absolutely delicious! So much so, I have gone back a few times since! Happy to say that the previous Mama Francesca owner was back in the kitchen cooking - and of course, the food is just as amazing as ever! Can't wait to go back again soon! Never again. Food good, service absolutely horrid. First clue that something was amiss was that we went on Saturday at prime time for dinner and the place wasn't very crowded. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, a long narrow room separated from the main section of the restaurant -- the place were service goes to die. Seated immediately, but took a while for the wait staff to find our table. Ordered drinks and and an appetizer to share. Waiter returned with incorrect drinks, rectified mistake. Appetizer (fried calamari) was quite good, serving size ample for sharing. Took a while for our main dishes to come. Linguini with clams, manicotti and an inferno pizza. Again, food was good. Here's why this review is only one star - our waiter rarely came into our section of the restaurant, let alone stop by our table to check if everything was OK or if we wanted anything else. We finished eating, then waited (and waited, and waited, and waited) for anyone to come by, clear plates and ask if we wanted anything else. We got so disgusted that we went out to the maître d to ask if she could find our waiter. A good meal ruined by poor service. Inexcusable. Spent your hard earned money elsewhere. read more
