But I didnt see any flights. While the service was fine, I did sort catch them lounging around in on the couches on their phones while on shift. I get its slow but its just not a good look. The location is right at the end of a street so there are constantly cars making u turns and coming in and out of parking. So sitting outside isnt terribly ambient. IDK, it was truly a fine experience but I have no desire to go back.

It was beautifully presented and a good balance of flavors. For main dishes, we got a variety of things. We got salmon, hanger steak, flat iron steak, and poulet roti. Everything was delicious. I think the flat iron steak was preferred over the hanger, but both were good. I thought the chicken was delicious. It seemed braised with a lot of flavor. It was a generous portion with a large salad. It was very well done. We also got a couple of sides of macaroni and cheese. Those didn't disappoint. They came in hot iron skillets and were hearty and delicious. For dessert we got the mousse au chocolat. The mousse with ice cream was a great combination. The dessert was well balanced. I did like the demi glace sauce and the rutabaga garnish. 5. The 12oz dry aged rib eye was tasty, with a beautiful crust, but the interior again was a little drier than I would hope for medium rare. Again, the bordelaise sauce was very good. We all loved the aioli that was served alongside the French fries. 6. The side of cooked beans was the main disappointment. The beans themselves didn't taste of much, and the dish as a whole was only rescued by the generous serving of marcona almonds. 7. The grits were decently good. Overall, the meal was an enjoyable dining experience and I would recommend Zola, especially as this style of cooking is becoming less common and squeezed out by restaurants serving more aggressively-flavoured dishes.

The Verdict: If I were reviewing this restaurant based only on my first visit, I would have given it 5 stars. The food was fresh, creative, flavorful, and genuinely memorable. But after coming back the very next day and having several dishes taste noticeably different, I had to take a few stars away. I'm not sure if there were different chefs, different prep, or something else going on behind the scenes, but consistency is such a key part of a great restaurant experience, especially when you're paying restaurant prices. When a dish is fantastic one day and just okay the next, it's hard to know what experience you're actually going to get. The ambience is great, and while the service was friendly, it was also a bit slow. Overall, I still see the potential here, and my first visit was genuinely excellent. I just wish the second visit had lived up to it.

Francisco from around the block was raving about this place. I am not very familiar with this "urban" part of Redwood City. I took Francisco's advice and visited Lutticken's today around 10am for breakfast. First of all, the name of this place. WTH (what the hay?). They should call it Lucky's or Tick or Chicken or something easier to say. (My Yelp score is not based on this, I am just saying Lutticken's sounds weird, that is all.) There is two parts to this place: a food kitchen and on the opposite end is a bar. In the middle is this lush, really pretty seating area with birds, umbrellas and Japanese maple trees. The seating area is very nice, I have to say. It feels a nice backyard forest. The bathrooms here are also very clean and orderly. But the food and drinks here took away from a higher Yelp score. I ordered the short cornbread pancakes. When I got it, it kept falling apart and tasted like cornmeal. There was a TINY teaspoon of butter and a 2-ounces of some kind of syrup. I was hoping the pancake would stay together a little more and the taste would be better. But, for $4, I think I got what I paid for. I also ordered coffee. Just regular coffee. I was given a clean mug (nice) and went up to the big cistern where they had 2 regular coffees (one was light roast and the other was dark, French Roast). The coffees smelled fresh. But, when I drank the coffee, when I got near the bottom, there was about a whole table spoon of GROUNDS. I had to cough some out because I drank so fast and did not know there was this amount of ground in my coffee mug. When I brought it to the attention of an employee, she said "this happens all the time" and I would not die from this. Ok ... death was not what I had in mind but it's good she wanted me to live. Disappointed with the cornmeal pancakes, I ordered the 2 eggs any style breakfast combo for $8. My poached eggs was extra cooked so that only one of the 2 eggs was slightly runny. I did not insist on poached "easy" so I guess this was partly my fault. The "hashbrown" was more like french fries. It was DEEP FRIED so that the top and bottom layers were hard, crispy and brown and a few strings of sliced pototoes were seen in the middle. Who the hell fry their hashbrowns? The bacon strips that came with it was also DEEP FRIED extra well done. Biting into the bacons was like biting into charcoal. Again, who the hell fry bacon in a deep fryer like that? I felt like I lost the taste and texture of this American breakfast classic items. I think you only deep fry things to mask low quality ingredients and to send customers to an early grave. I will die from a shipload of coffee grounds but I might die from everything being deep fried like this. The entire time, after the food was delivered, no employee ever checked up on me. I had to go up to the counter to get them for problems with my food, drinks or order. But they wanted customers to also tip, in spite of this counter service and in spite of the employees not checking on the customers. While I want to tip people who work in the service industry, it feels odd when employees expect a tip when you have to wait on them instead of the other way around. The girl who took my order also looked like she rolled her eyes at me when I first walked in. Ok ... not sure how I pissed her off. My total was $15.33. If you use a credit card, this place uses a computer app that require you to slide your card online and sign your name also online. I do not know how secure this is. But I was not given any other way to pay with a credit card but to forfeit my concern for my private information and online security. This place is so cool in a way because it is in the middle of this ugly, urban part of RWC and I really wanted to give it 5-Yelp stars. But it is so, so far away from even a 2-Yelp stars. I have no idea what to recommend for the owner/manager but I will speak the loudest by not returning to Lutticken's ever again. read more

We were prepared to split into two separate tables. The manager took it upon himself to offer a larger table that had a perfect view of a TV. It was so nice of him! We did order split plates (an extra charge) but the kitchen did serve them on split plates, which was nice. The burgers were super juicy and delicious. The fries were served hot and crispy. We did other appetizers of candied bacon which was disappointing. It just tasted like regular bacon. Not especially thick or sweet. That was the only disappointment of the visit. We also ordered the wings which were super delicious! We really enjoyed them. Our server Tanya was so friendly and accommodating. She was amazing. Overall a great experience.

My partner is not from around here, and this seemed like the perfect old school venue to take him to experience the Original Menlo Park, pre-tech boom. He and I came in on a Tuesday evening for dinner, and the place was virtually deserted. We were one of only three tables in the house. Food: 8 out of 10 We ordered the Peach and Arugula Salad, the Pork Chop and the Mushroom Pasta, all of which was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed it everything. Service: 5 out of 10 Our waiter was great, we enjoyed having her, however some aspects of the service from other wait staff were odd, especially given that there were less than 6 people in the whole restaurant. For example, they brought us the wrong bottle of wine, and it took us a while to figure out they'd brought us a Riesling (not what we asked for). Wine cooler had no ice in it. But they did make up for the mistake appropriately, bringing us the correct wine promptly. Ambiance: 1 out of 10. I was shocked to discover that the interior had been entirely gutted over a decade ago, and in such a manner that the windows and other period details that give the space character are obscured. The interior looks so vacuous and open that it is now the antithesis of cozy. I joked to my partner, an architect, who also didn't understand what they were trying to achieve in the remodel, that it feels more like a hangar for parking the Millennium Falcon than a restaurant. The ultra-modern, cold, utilitarian design is weirdly cafeteria-esque, although the view of the glassed in kitchen was nice enough. The second story feels like a warehouse, although the rooftop bar, which is only open on Fridays and weekends, looked perfectly okay. It's just so sad that this was done to the BBC. Everything that made it special is either gone or being covered up or poorly utilized. I would have loved to be able to see out the stained glass windows! If the owners wanted a generic ultra modern space, why not buy one? So many already exist. Why butcher a beautiful old building in this way? Just awful. The exterior is still lovely, so I'm giving it one star for that.

Sofia, our server and Sam, the GM made our visit very memorable with their kind, attentive, and energetic service. Their recommendations for cocktails, wine, and food were all fabulous and demonstrated great attention to detail on their end when prompted with what we all liked. I was touched by Sam's gesture of surprising me with a hand-crafted lychee cocktail, on the house. He remembered that this was my most favorite fruit and reminded me of my home back in Hawaii. Overall, the drinks and food arrived extremely quickly and were presented beautifully. Everything tasted even better than I remembered! The prices were very reasonable and the food was good! The burrito was perfect to split between 2 semi hungry people and their salsa was a great addition to add on top.
