Lux was putting on a hair show and fundraiser for breast cancer awareness in cooperation with Saks this past Saturday. As a result there were about 15 of us in and out throughout the afternoon to get various styles done to our hair. Laura, who already had cropped blonde hair, came out with an auburn pixie cut that was absolutely adorable. Michelle had a braid around the top of her head and pinned back in a really classic look. Ann ended up with a 1940's partial updo. Daniel had this really crazy crimped look with her long dirty blonde hair. Sona had a beautiful beehive influenced look. Charlene and Nancy got their hair colored a really rockin' reddish color. Then, there were many others of course. Those are just a few really cool highlights to showcase the variety of looks they created. As for me, well mine took 2 hours, but turned out to be something I'd never been before. Lauren took every strand of my hair and in small groups wrapped it around a comb and crimped/flat ironed my whole head. It was a collaborative efforts with some other stylists. I really liked how they all gave each other feedback, shared ideas, and helped out as needed. While she worked on me, they talked about inspiration from classes they'd taken or hair shows they'd gone to. I was so excited to be someone they were bringing those styles to life on! After Lauren had all of my hair wrapped, crimped, teased, and sprayed she parted it to the side, and braided it around the left side of my head to create a waterfall effect. Then she clipped it all together at the base of the right side of my neck and teased that end of it to look like a tail end. I absolutely LOVE this salon! I've seen nearly every stylist that works there & each and every one of them have been FANTASTIC! The staff is extremely friendly, the salon itself is beautiful and I have never once had a bad experience! Not only do I go there, but all 3 of my kids ( 2 girls and a teenage boy), but my husband goes there as well. My entire family are VERY happy clients! Anytime I move to a new city, one of my biggest stressors is finding a new hair stylist. My hair isn't that challenging, but I am picky, especially I trying to maintain my natural blond color as much as possible. From the start Lux offered more than most salons. Their website has a lot of useful information, and I like that they have stylist profiles, including recent courses & areas of expertise. I also went into the salon and asked for recommendations for my personal hair type and preferences then made a selection based on the online profiles. I have been with Allison now for almost 2 years and couldn't be happier! She obtains a thorough consultation and never assumes I want the same thing each time. I have had my hair now short, long, and with side bangs and each time have received a fantastic hair cut and partial highlight. While having a great stylist is important, I have been to salons where the rest of the staff was so rude that I left just for that reason. The staff at Lux are always friendly, professional, and attentive. They always acknowledge a new guest immediately and anyone in the salon may ask if I need a water, coffee, or glass of wine. While I was very sad when they moved to their new location last year (which is now 20 minutes farther for me), the salon & it's staff are so wonderful that it's worth the extra drive! read more

Yes; Lux is pricey. You absolutely get what you pay for. I have been going to Allison for almost 5 years now, and I absolutely adore her. She is so incredibly gifted at what she does. Shes honest, kind, and takes the time to discover what you really want. If can give her a picture, and she will give you exactly what you want, or you can tell her an idea and she will create a style that is perfect for you. I was visiting Raleigh, NC for the week from MD. Most of the hair dressers in my area are either super expensive or don't cut my hair the way I like it. I decided to yelp hair salons on my last day visiting and ran into Lux Salon. The reviews were amazing and all the cuts looked great so I decided to request an appointment. I personally requested someone who is great with layers because my last hair dresser butchered my hair which is why I wanted a fix. They booked my with Heather and I'm so glad they did! She was so sweet and helped me achieve the cut I exactly wanted. I explained to her everything I was looking for in my cut and she went above and beyond to achieve it. This salon is awesome! I've only been once, but had a great experience AND the best haircut ever. If you have curly hair go see Christina Hardesty! She is sweet, very friendly, and did an awesome job with my curly hair. She is very knowledgeable with curly hair and did I mention very friendly? I felt so comfortable talking with her and she really listens. I recently got married and was so nervous having someone cut my hair for the first time, but so glad I made the trip to see Christina. I was extremely disappointed in my last visit at Lux Salon. My stylist, Kelly Jo, had been taking my medium brown hair back to blonde. I had been told by the receptionist that she was the girl I needed to see if I wanted to get back to blonde! I already knew the process would be slow so I was expecting to only be a couple shades lighter after each visit. They also use Olaplex which is great for lightening your hair safely and it can help speed the process up. When I had my first appointment, Kelly Jo cut tons off my damaged hair, did a 1/2 head of highlights, she deepened my roots, 2 Olaplex treatments, a blow-dry, and style. At the end of that visit, my bill was $250. I know that was on the more pricey side but I hadn't had a haircut in forever and the Olaplex treatments were definitely necessary. I was disappointed that there was no scalp and neck massage included with my treatments too because even super inexpensive salons do that! Also, my hair was so short, my neck had to be shaved - so you can reference the cost and length with this with my next visit... I set up an appointment 6 weeks later for one Olaplex treatment, 1/2 head of highlights, and deeper roots! I didn't need a haircut yet since my hair was cut so short a month & 1/2 before & I didn't mind walking out with damp hair since the cut was made to look great messy. When I was checking out, my total was $320! THREE HUNDRED AND TWENTY DOLLARS. I was confused because I didn't get a haircut, second Olaplex treatment, blow-dry, or style that I had gotten the first time and somehow my bill was an extra $70. I was sick to my stomach because I knew I shouldn't have paid more than $200 with Kelly Jo's tip included. They basically refused to break down the bill for me and I was stuck footing this expensive hair experience. Not to mention, when I came home and styled my hair myself, there was ZERO difference in the lightness of my hair, which was the entire point of even getting the 1/2 head of highlights. I am extremely disappointed with Lux Salon and honestly don't recommend this place to anyone. In my opinion, it's a rip-off and even after calling back to share my concerns, I never heard back from anyone in the salon, which is extremely unprofessional in my book. read more

I bought ahead and went to my appointment the next week. I was serviced by Chastity and she was great! I showed her a picture of what I wanted via pinterest and she expertly told me that I wanted Honey Blonde Balayage. When my hair didn't turn out as blonde as I wanted, she had no problem giving me another keratin treatment to make sure I was satisfied. Clean and classy establishment. read more

I'm really happy with the service I get at Lux. My stylist is Kim, and she seems very knowledgable and will stand up & tell me if I ask for a color that's not going to look good on me. Don't get me wrong - she gives me just what I want - but has the nerve to let me know if something I ask for is really going to be a mistake. AND - this was on my 3rd visit. This tells me she is comfortable with her craft and honest. I really love that in a stylist. If this review were just for Kim, there would be 5 stars for sure. I only give 4 vs. 5 because of price. Like others, I suppose you get what you pay for, but I do think it's a little high for this market. I have had BAD cuts for $55, so am willing now to pay extra to ensure I am happy when I leave. When I went with Sam I did not feel this at all I can notice a complete difference in my hair and felt like it brightened up my whole look! So I took a risk and tried a new salon and requested Kelli Jo based off of the pictures I saw on Instagram. She did amazing on blonde hair so I thought she must do the same for dark brown hair right?? YES is the answer! She was amazing!!! Listened to what I wanted and delivered a beautiful rich brunette color I was wanting! I felt like I had been going there for years! Three's a charm won't happen. My first experiment was ok. The second and last experience was terrible, I was there almost 5 hours. I took pictures of the balyage end result I wanted. As soon as she started to blow dry my hair I wanted to cry! it was the polar opposite. I explained my concern to the front office manager who offered to fix it. For my hair, I work with Allison and she always takes the time to talk with me about how i'm liking my hair, color and she is very pleasant to work with. Marcella is absolutely the best when it comes to a pedicure and manicure. She also does waxing and light message. The pedicure area is private and she plays relaxing music...she uses cool lotions and scrubs...she is marvelous and very nice also. I'm posting a review from the parking lot. I just got my hair cut here by a stylist named Chassity. I hope that's the right spelling. She was previously at Salon Blu and worked in Wilmington as well. She is newer to this salon. (A little over a month) I do not let a lot of people do my hair and normally getting a hair cut is stressful because I have had some bad experiences. I rely on reviews a lot of the time and when it comes to hair I know how women can be picky. You should be. I took a chance on a stylist I had never met and just went with it based on the salon reviews alone. I trusted the fact that all their stylists are so highly talented, educated and experienced from what I read on their website. I'm in awe that she was able to tame this crazy hair because I resort to a bun when it grows out. Now I have a place to get it maintained. No more messy buns! Ok, so maybe sometimes. I am very picky with my hair especially the color. Hilights, low lights, you name it, I do it. My hair is my signature. I moved here from DC where I went the a celebrity stylist. I went to five different stylist and salons before I found Lux. All I can say is Ah-maze-ing. Lauren is my stylist/colorist. She takes her time blending and mixing the right color for me. So I booked my appointment with her on Friday and was able to get a reservation the following Monday which was perfect. I arrived on time, meeting her on the spot took no time to wait. I was in at noon and out by 1:15. I got a shampoo and haircut with layers and bang trim. I trusted her with it and told her to cut as much she thought needed. She gave it great volume and texture. So glad I found her. She's very kind and bubbly. She has ten years of experience and that I can tell bc she did a great job. Wish I remembered to take before and after photos. Lol. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. That's it. I've never written a Yelp review before, but I feel as though this place deserved one! I was on the hunt for a place around the Triangle that does balayage hair; and since I have thick never-colored black hair to my waist, I wanted to find a place that does this "current" popular hair style the best - because for me this would have been a "drastic" change. Many places are just now getting into this, so I based my judgements on each salon's Instagram picture of actual clients - and Lux's results surpassed ALL the other places around the area for sure! During my visit, both Lauren, the main stylist, and Amanda, the trainee (who also did a GREAT job for her first time), listened and gave detailed advice on what would look best for my hair type - for both the cut and color. I'd showed them pictures from Pinterest and I believe the results were even better tbh. I've received so many compliments from friends/family/...and even strangers! The rest of the staff was extremely friendly and easy to talk to and it wasn't difficult to schedule an appointment! I notice there aren't any reviews for Megan P. yet so let me be the first to say how great of an experience it was with her! As a caveat, I'm new to the area and have been searching for a new stylist but also don't always know what I want to do with my hair! She worked with me to address my concerns, and give me a color and cut I am really happy with! She's also really personable and easy to talk to. The only reason I give 4 stars is two reasons: that the color is still not exactly where I want it to be (but in all fairness changing your hair is rarely a one step process when it's dark and Megan more than once told me I could come back if I wasn't happy with it once I gave it some time, and gave me a suggestion on what we could do) and pricing. I come from Philly so the price itself didn't really surprise or displease me (I'm willing to pay for good hair!), it's more of a suggestion to give people an idea what to expect. I had received a wide range quote when I set up the appointment, and then the appointment took longer than expected and what I think was more steps (also a positive- Megan was super accommodating even though we went over the time allotted to make sure my color and cut/style were done properly!). So while I didn't necessarily dwell on it because I'm more concerned with the end result, it did occur to me a couple times that I had no idea how much this would cost. Again, it ended up being totally reasonable IMO, but with more expensive and time consuming efforts, it might be nice to give clients a general idea. All in all, the salon feels like a great experience and Megan is highly recommended! read more
