I bring my 14 year old shih-tzu here for a full groom every other month. I no longer take him anywhere else because they do a fantastic job and Butters loves his groomer! He's blind and going deaf (old boy, lol) so taking him somewhere where I know he's being well cared for is really important. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED I took my dogs in today for a grooming which was scheduled a week ago and one of my dogs result turn out to be a disaster. I made an appointment a week from now and mentioned to the person on the phone that one of my dog would have to be done by 1pm since he has a vet appointment on the same day at 1:40PM. Then I got offered to give him an express haircut and I was Ok with that option at the time. 3 days later, I received 2 call from them ( separate times) to ask if I can reschedule my dog grooming appointment since they were over booked and I rejected since I'm leaving on a trip on the next day and won't be able to take him in. They said they would follow back to see if they can put him in one day earlier but I never heard back from them. This Monday, they called again to ask for the same thing and I explained them the same reason so they were Ok with me taking my dogs in today for the grooming and asked me to drop them around 8AM-9AM but no guarantee they they be finish by 1pm. Therefore, I had to reschedule my vet appointment to another day. I took my dogs in at 8:50AM today and expected them to be done around 1pm. I got a text from them at 11:50AM saying that my dogs were ready to be picked up. I was a bit surprised because I've used their service for the last 2 years and normally it took longer than for my dogs to get groomed. I came and paid before they handed me my dogs and to my surprise, his haircut looked extremely bad and choppy. You can tell that they didn't spend enough time to blend his hair cut. I complained them right away about how bad his haircut looked. They explained because it was matted and his hair texture, but it wasn't reasonable for me since I brushed him before the grooming and the last couple of times when I had him groomed here, he did not come back looking super choppy like this, giving the fact that they always charge me extra for dematt fee including this time. However, they were nice enough to offer me to leave my dog there in order for them to fix his haircut. Therefore, I had to leave him there again. Awhile after I left, I hadn't heard anything from them so call and asked if my dog was ready to pick up and they said yes. I came to pick him up shortly and checked on him and he looked exactly the same as I came a few hours ago. To my suspicions, I think they were overbooked themselves today and didn't give enough attention and time to work on my dogs and one of my dog was unlucky to receive a terrible haircut. I checked on him again when we got home and It was shocking to find out that his belly wasn't even clean or well blended and super patchy. I paid $135 for my dog who was unlucky to get a terrible hair cut and tip and I don't think my dog deserves it! read more

My dog is a dirty dirty boy! He lives a great life, and was a mess when I brought him in. I was worried he'd get totally shaven down, totally my fault for waiting so long to groom him. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED Saturday, July 5th, we dropped our dog (6 yr. old, 18 lb. Cavapoo) off at the scheduled time (12:00pm) for a grooming. We were told it would be about 2 hours. At 2:30pm I called to see if we could pick up our dog. I was told it would be soon. We were in the neighborhood and decided to wait outside. At 2:50pm we heard a loud dog's cry. While running into the front door we heard another louder and longer dog's cry. My husband saw Michael (groomer) slap our dog's head really hard. Our 18 lb. cavapoo went cowering into the corner. The manager (did not get her name) told us Michael was being sent home. Our dog had been kept in a crate for over 2 1/2 hours. He was bathed but not groomed. Even if our dog nipped at the groomer he only has 10 teeth. Absolutely unprofessional, unkind treatment of a small animal in their care. DO NOT GO TO GROOM DOG SPAW!!! They overbook, crate for hours, and are cruel to animals. I filed a complaint with the BBB and the SPCA. read more

I am very happy with the outcome of my dog's haircut. She is a yorkie mix so her fur is inconsistent and she has long scruffy fur in random areas. She is my first "long haired" dog so I wasn't really sure what or how to ask for her haircuts. I took her to a different groomer before and they pretty much cut all her hair very short to make it even and I did not like how that looked on her... While I have to admit the end result of the grooming is great, I'm consistently frustrated as the price you agree upon and are quoted is NEVER what you pay when you leave. No matter how many times we have tried to solidify the price before leaving, there is always a $5-$10 at minimum additional charge. While the actual dollar amount isn't much, the principle of always tacking on costs is frustrating and frankly bad business. The latest instance was an extra $5 for no reason "other than a price increase" even though the price was agreed upon in the morning. read more

I've consistently come to this dog groomer over the past year for my mini poodle!!! They have always done an amazing job grooming my dog, giving him the Teddy Bear haircut that we love. My husband and I love taking our dog here though, because the service is so great. Our dog is quite anxious when it comes to getting groomed, and they were very accepting and tolerable of that when we first brought him in. They were able to groom him, and gave good feedback to try the Hemp Oil prior to the appt next time to help make him more at ease. We tried that for the subsequent visits, and they've reported back that he's been so much better now!!! Also, when we walk by the store, my dog will actually even pull his leash to sniff the storefront :) We've had a good relationship with this Dog Groomer, and we will be customers for life! I also like the way they work - you drop off your pup in an hour time slot, which is quite convenient. They'll work on your dog for 4 hours, and call you when they're done. You can take the morning slot, or the afternoon slot. Call early though, because sometimes they'll be booked up for weeks!!! We love this Groom Dog Spaw, so thankful for their service. read more

If you have an anxious dog, this is a great option because they have an express grooming option. My goldendoodle had some mild matting and extremely long hair. Due to her anxiety, I had mostly been attempting to groom her at home. I asked them to shave her down and I was in disbelief that they'd actually be able to do it in two hours. It took them just over two hours to do that and trim her nails. I was impressed. She looked great when I picked her up. read more

We had a really good experience! My dog is a puppy, and had negative experiences previously at another groomer. At Groom Dog Spaw, he didn't want to leave at the end! Cindy took extra care with his worries and played with him and gave him breaks as a puppy. I picked him up and his cut was wonderful and he looks and smells great and clean! Groom Dog Spaw does excellent work! My goldendoodle puppy, Monty, goes for dog walks at Fort Funston every day during the week and kept getting a bunch of burrs especially fox tails caught in his long muppet fur anytime he walked outside. One even got caught in his eye so I knew it was time for a shave down. When I dropped him off at Groom Dog Spaw, they warned me he may be too young to shave down since he's never been to a groomer before. I totally understood and just asked they do the best they can. Julianne and team delivered a wonderfully shaved pup just as I asked! I super appreciate their patience with my dopey puppy and the exceptional quality of their work. Highly recommended!! read more

Sad to give a negative review. I support small businesses but this was a horrific experience. My dog's first appt at Groom Dog Spaw on 12/18/20. I said I wanted his cut to be short. Groomer shaved the hair near his left eye down to the skin, even broke some skin. Groomer never said anything about this. I discovered this at night. My dog was very quite all evening. Had his head down and napped, stayed close to me. Then around 8pm, he started getting agitated. Looks like his skin was irritating him. Going to call the owner on Monday to discuss this. I did not bring him in to get harmed. Rest of his cut was fine but I was surprised his moustache was shaved. read more

I've never written a bad review before. I took my dog here to get a summer cut. They charged me for a full cut but really only bathed and trimmed him. He was also patchy and uneven. Nicely, they offered to redo him the next day. Well, I guess the groomer was offended or something because what I asked for was for a "full puppy cut" and to even out the patchiness. I was told a puppy cut "meant nothing" although a quick google will tell you it means a even cut along the entire body (usually about 2 inches throughout). Instead, they shaved him to the almost the bone. I can see his black skin. Really feels like they did this on purpose and the groomer was snarky and rude. Never going back here read more

Our regular vet (Arguello Pet Hospital) is not providing this service during the pandemic and recommended Groom. Groom was able to slot our pup in within hours, and the actual appointment was swift. I have been going to Groom Dog Spaw for over 15 years. I have 3 dogs and they can't wait to go! We go weekly and Cindy and Jorje have been taking care of us for a long time. The dogs are always so happy when they come out and they look and smell beautiful! I have referred many friends over the years and everyone has continued as a loyal patron. Will not be coming back here. Ever. We took our pet in with several tangles and groomer notified me they would need to shave down some of his hair. This is after I had a conversation in person with her about hair length and what we wanted. Our dog normally looks like a doodle with beautiful, curly fluffy hair. We returned and he looked like a different breed altogether, shivering outside and afraid. Poor communication and complete disregard for the breed and style. Not worth it. The worst part was in some areas they shaved so closely that some of his skin was exposed and irritated. This was concerning and shows lack of care for the animal. We would have rather kept our dogs original cut and brushed though the knots than put him through this poor experience.. read more

I dropped my dog off at 12 and she wasn't ready until 4 o'clock, she was soooo sad when I picked her up. I was also worried she would give fleas to the other dogs there since they kept her all day. They don't let you in without physical rabies vaccination records, luckily I live closeby but would have been nice to know beforehand. Also my dog had been groomed the week before so I can't really speak to their grooming capabilities, I just dropped her off for a flea bath (they don't offer flea dip treatment, just shampoo). But after paying $70 for the convenience of not doing another flea bath, I got her back and her face and head were like totally untouched/unwashed :( when I took her in she only had one flea I had found & removed prior so totally not infested but after her flea bath I think the fleas moved onto her face? There are more droppings now than before I dropped her off. Time for another at home bath for the baby. :(( at least I know I'm thorough when I give them but assumed the professionals would do a better job. I'd pick another groomer nearby, I've heard Top Dog is nice. read more

Been coming here for years when it was owned by Nona. And they have three full staff in the front and three or four more in the back. She was owner with kindness and care for your pups. After she sold it to Juliana, the place steadily gone down hill. Another groomer left not long after and seem like they constantly have way too many turn over. That's a red flag by the way. Cindy is the only one left in front and I think two more regular guys are in the back and without more staff. They are constantly hiring some new not dependable staff. I took my dog there regularly before but lately their work shows not a good sign. They miss things here or there. Also I am not one to not recommend them to ppl before but now I caught myself not wanting to. It's sad when Nona left and I don't care for their new owner. I take my dog there less and less. Terrible experience. We sent our toy poodle to be groomed here. His hair was long (it took two weeks to get an appointment). He had been thoroughly brushed before going. The groomer called and said he was matted all over and she couldn't do the cut requested. When he was brought home I was in tears. He had been quite literally shaved and looked like a rat! His face, which didn't have enough hair to possibly be matted looked a bit as if he had been groomed with someone wearing a blindfold. Half his face had an "eyebrow", the other half was bare. His ears were cut oddly and his face had uneven hairs that needed to be trimmed at home. Even his little topknot was crooked. And for this "fast and dirty" job I had the privilege of paying $20 extra. One thing to note: we had taken a photo (intended as a "before and after", not proof he wasn't matted but in the photo he clearly isn't matted. Please spare yourself the heartbreak and extra expense these people will subject you to. Everyone reminds me his hair will grow out, but it will be a long time before he looks much like a poodle.
