We got two gift cards for Luxe from local top Realtor Colleen Gerke. It said take your pick of "Bocadillo" sandwiches. We had: the Figgy Piggy", which is on a fresh, toasted baguette, contains deli-grade prosciutto, garlic olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese. greens and more. We also had a "Piggy Pear", of similar construction, but instead substitutes tender ham, date & pear preserves. It was delicious, very tasty, warm and so plentiful that we each took half of ours home. The regular price is a very reasonable $11. Most people will not walk away hungry after one of these. They have a whole selection of sandwiches, croissant and waffle-based concoctions, drinks, including coffees. It appears that their biggest feature is picnic baskets, consisting of a wide array of goodies ranging from $18-59 (for four people). They also do catering, so we left with a menu and business card. The owners have caterers for many years and jokingly (?) said they had to open this place to keep their daughter in Boston College. One thing we have noticed living and traveling to many places is that most areas have a fairly small percentage of good and reasonably priced restaurants. This one made it to our list.

Charcuterie box (you are able to pick your own options).

Restaurant itself seemed uncared for. We were the only diners. They offered free water in a glass decanter. It was warm and tasted terrible. We ordered chicken katsu sliders and chicken ramen. The sliders were so drenched in a sickly sweet yet also super salty sauce. The bread was stale. I took two bites and was done. The ramen broth was like pure super salty soy sauce. The chicken pieces tasted off. The egg was a weird texture and taste, and Carl NEVER says no to eggs in any form until today. The bok choy was too tough to bite through. The noodles by themselves were edible. I took some out and put crispy garlic chili oil on them and had a few bites of that while Carl fished the rest out of the broth with a fork and ate them that way. Worst meal ever. Sorry. I don't think they care. I think it's more about the bar and anime. Won't be back.

Everything is thoughtfully designed to create a cozy, welcoming environment, but the real highlight is, of course, the capybaras! Getting to observe and gently interact with these calm, friendly animals made the visit feel truly special and unlike anything else in the area. The staff was wonderful as well--kind, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the animals and guest experience. They made sure we felt comfortable, explained everything clearly, and helped make my wife's birthday feel extra special. What really sets the Capybara Café apart is how peaceful and joyful the whole experience is. It's not just a café visit--it's a memory you'll talk about long after you leave. Perfect for couples, families, or anyone looking for something truly different and meaningful. We couldn't have asked for a better birthday experience. We'll definitely be coming back!

That said, the restaurant could definitely use a good deep cleaning. We noticed cobwebs up around the windows and among some of the decorative areas after we ordered and sat down. All the bread products (in plastic bags on trays) were in the hallway just outside bathrooms. I noticed after we ate and was leaving. My daughter ordered the 2-meat plate with pulled pork and brisket. She asked for a baked potato as one of her sides even though it wasn't listed as an option, and they had no problem accommodating her. The baked potato was a good size. She also had mac and cheese and chose the garlic toast instead of cornbread. She felt the mac and cheese was a little too runny and overly cheesy, and the garlic toast was nothing special. The brisket and pulled pork were okay, but neither had much flavor on their own and definitely needed BBQ sauce. I ordered the 3-meat plate with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork, along with French fries and a baked potato. The portions were generous, and the fries were hot and salty just how I like them. Unfortunately, the cornbread was overcooked and didn't have much flavor. Like my daughter's meal, all three meats were plentiful but lacked seasoning or smoky BBQ flavor and really needed sauce. They had four BBQ sauce choices available, but none really stood out to me. If I went back, I'd probably bring my own favorite BBQ sauce. Our total was around $50 for the two of us, including two fountain drinks, so roughly $25 per person. Overall, the portions were very good and the menu offered plenty of choices, but for a BBQ restaurant, I expected the meat itself to have a lot more flavor without having to rely so heavily on the sauce.
