Well, I really like this place. The food is huge portions. Really good food for the money. The service was very friendly. My righteous was nice. She took time to speak with me for a few minutes. Gave me history on the place. And the ambience very old-fashioned. I'm not into a lot of new wave stuff. I visit Ms Carolyn often, this was my first time ordering the loaded bowl. I must say it was delicious but it was cold. Not sure how. When I dug in, the potatoes at the bottom were hot it was the egg that was cold, and so the cheese did not melt. I did however have enough for left overs and I put it in my air fryer the next day and it was delicious. The service was good, it was crowded on Sunday morning. read more

Went here over a couple of weeks ago, forgot to put a review in. We wanted to try something different than beach diner so I found this place close by. Like others said, it's a hotspot for locals. Food was very good, portions huge. I had the breakfast but which came with black bean salsa, and a queso dip. My wife had a veggie omelet. Service a little slow at the beginning as the man with the menus was chatting with locals. Place has that old diner feel. Bathroom was clean. I will definitely go back. read more

Different place for breakfast in Fernandina Beach. Pretty busy and could see it was frequented by locals. My usual breakfast but with the smoked sausage on the side. Eggs were done exactly how I like them. The potatoes Obrien were very good. Candyce had the grits and eggs bowl with bacon. With a biscuit. Biscuit was big and warm. Everything was great. I have been to Ms. Carolyn's a number of times and have never been disappointed. All the staff are excellent! I always seem to get the most friendliest and carrying people to serve me. The wait time is never an issue. Ms. Carolynn personally made accommodations for our large group that satisfied everyone. The food is always just the way I like it, real home cooking I grew up eating. I give them 5 stars plus for Ms. Carolyn's Restaurant. Hard to find anything nice to say about this place that USED to be wonderful. This visit was on a slow day yet the service was still somehow poor. Staff is impolite, food is mediocre (think: homestyle food from a relative that's not a very good cook). Staff very interested in long conversations with their friends and neighbors but not very interested in taking orders, refilling drinks and coffee, providing enough silverware etc. Restaurant tables greasy and floor were covered in trash. Corners are full of little black things that I'm hoping are not rodent/insect related. This has been a go-to for many years but no one cares anymore. Fake smiles while sitting in filth, being ignored, and eventually being served forgettable food doesn't merit handing them any more money. read more

Not a fancy place, but the food says it all ! Maybe the best Eggs Florentine I've ever had. Gorgeously poached egg with the perfect balance of English muffin, spinach, tomato, egg and hollandaise. I ordered the Hippie, and a cup of fruit. The fruit was the highest quantity I've had at ANY restaurant. Regardless of it all being out of season, it was superb! Now I'm gonna sound backwards; because, even though I enjoyed my experience as much as I did, I still felt that the price was a bit high for the quantity delivered. We came in for lunch and were disappointed. The place seemed sort of run down and although not filthy it sure could be cleaner. The server was nice but took her time getting to us to get our order. Once our order was in it took a very long time to get our food considering it was not busy at all. I ordered a medium-rare burger and fries. Burger was cooked so hard and dry it basically had no taste, it didn't even come with cheese, maybe you have to ask for cheese? I only ate a couple of bites of the burger. The fries seemed like potato-mix fries you get at a fast food place and weren't worth eating. Wife ordered shrimp and grits (I think). You can see in the picture it looked like a bowl of slop, I didn't taste it but wife said it was disgusting and didn't eat it, she ate a few of the fries but that was all. The heavenly hash is pretty good. The omelettes are yummy too. But the best thing really are their pancakes. I'm not sure what's in the batter but they are so soft and fluffy and they just melt in your mouth. We were there twice in one weekend just to have the pancakes again. read more

It was my first time here since my husband wanted breakfast at 1 PM. Unfortunately the all day breakfast menu only includes 3 items: cinnamon roll, $10 omelets and something else I don't remember. The service is friendly but I knocked off some stars because the food is bland and not enough seasoning...I feel like it's catered to the elderly population here. I ordered the southwestern wrap which has grilled chicken, rice, beans, salsa and cheese. It wasn't bad, just very bland so its probably healthy right? My daughter and I came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast she got The French toast and said it was so good, she absolutely loved it. I got the hippie and also enjoyed it. They were out of Canadian bacon so they put regular bacon it and it was delicious, they cooked their bacon perfectly. I would highly recommend. Great place! read more

If you are in Jacksonville or the surrounding area, you need to spend time on Amelia Island and you need to eat at Ms. Carolyn's. We have driven from Austin, TX to Key West and are on our way back up the coast eating the best breakfasts we can find, and Ms. Carolyn's is trying to take over the top spot for best breakfast. Thank goodness for Yelp, because this is not a spot I would stop at just driving around, and it would be so sad to miss out on this amazing experience! We came in on a holiday and she made sure we got everything we desired before their early closing time. She was also collecting donations for local charities as she worked (from people dropping by, not asking us), which made me love her! Here's what we ate: My wife had the crab omelette and loved it. I tried it and enjoyed it quite a bit too. Fresh crab, eggs and cheese, plus 4 ingredients of your choice=yum! I had the ham and biscuit sandwich with eggs and cheese and it was fantastic. One of the best biscuits I've had anywhere, and I order biscuits a lot! Writing about this makes me want another one right now! I also enjoyed one of the best cinnamon rolls I've found. So good. Because we were going to spend the day on the beach, we ordered the quiche to go and could not have been happier once we ate it. It was the best quiche we have eaten anywhere. My wife is a huge fan of quiche, so she samples it often. This quiche had layers of goodness. I tried figuring out the ingredients as I was eating it so I could make it, but I might just call Ms. Carolyn and see if she will help me out! We got to meet Ms. Carolyn and her adorable little puppy, which was nice as well. She told us to check out Fort Clinch and it was awesome as well! We were visiting Amelia Island and were looking for something really delicious and tasty for breakfast. I found this gem on yelp and wasn't sure what it would be like other than the reviews were completely incredible. When we got there, it was in a strip mall. It's set up like a small restaurant almost like a diner - very cute - and the people are so incredibly nice. I was very impressed that everyone was wearing masks and that they did an excellent job of social distancing. They definitely took the restaurant to the most capacity that they could as clearly there is a high demand. The food!!! Gracious, they really do an incredible job with their food. My husband had the biscuit sandwich with bacon and eggs. That biscuit was super fluffy and massive! I had the sausage and cheese quesadilla with eggs over easy. I like that they put the eggs on the side and you could mix it up with the quesadilla if that's what you wanted. The quesadilla was so tasty, crispy and not greasy. Both meals were very filling. We were super hungry or there would be no way that we could ever finish all that food. We ended up leaving and getting two biscuits and a side of ham to go and had that the next morning for breakfast. I would highly recommend this place! read more

Quaint local spot, seems to be family operated. Walked in to a pretty full place with a seat yourself sign. We were promptly greeted at our table. Our drinks and food came out super quick and all fresh and very delicious. As we enjoyed our food, more locals kept arriving so it leads me to believe this place is a staple for many in the area. I enjoyed the sausage and cheese quesadillas with 2 eggs on the side and it really was delicious. My husband had a bowl with corned beef, eggs, potatoes and a large pancake and the corned beef hash was super good and this is coming from someone that doesn't normally enjoy corned beef. We had high hopes and this place was well recommended. We were disappointed. Service was great but we thought everything was sub-par. The biscuits come out cold- we expect biscuits to be at least warm. They also were kind of dry and needed a little crunch, or something. Even butter and jam didnt do much for them- but they BIG! My husband's steak and eggs were just not good. The steak was cooked too done even thought he ordered med rare. And everything just didn't have much taste. We love good southern breakfast, so maybe we just have higher standards. I got a grits bowl and again, just nothing to write home to mom about. We just won't be coming back. read more

After reading the reviews we thought we would give it a try. Apparently we ate the wrong food. Breakfast seems to be the go to here because my Turkey Sandwich that was recommended by the waitress was terrible. Between adding the cream cheese, melted cheddar cheese and banana peppers it was a hot mess. Took two bites and I was done. Always looking to try a new spot and trusting you yelpers we stopped in! Very unassuming place in a strip mall. There was a line which always tells me this should be good. It was a little crowded but the wait was short. Others have noted it was seat yourself. Not today. Maybe because it was the 4th? Oh well the wait was very short anyway. A few things were called out by yelpers as well as on their menu. One of them was the Shrimp n Grits. Great flavors and lots of shrimp! Very tasty and a large portion. It's your typical breakfast food but service is good & quick! Pancakes are huge, literally the size of a plate. Heavenly hash was tasty and worth ordering again. I got the steak and eggs and was surprised to see it come with 3 orders of eggs! The steak was seasoned just right and cooked to a perfect medium. No extra sauce needed! My mini foodie was super excited about the biscuits and gravy but unfortunately, the flavor disappointed her BIG TIME. She said it needed more seasoning. Luckily, something else caught her eye and taste buds: she preferred to eat off daddy's plate of Heavenly Hash. Ms Carolyn's has been in business for 16 years, the last few years in a little strip mall in the middle of the island. Menu includes lots of classic breakfast items and some unique like shrimp & grits. I chose the crab omelette with grits and a pecan pancake. The eggs were fluffy but the crab just didn't agree with me. Those must have been the largest eggs ever laid because that was a ton of egg in the omelette. My friend wanted eggs Benedict but they were out of Canadian bacon so she opted for the Florentine Benedict with spinach and a plain pancake. The hollandaise sauce was just butter and just weird. We felt the food lacked some seasoning and the pancakes were bland. Good coffee, leaking syrup bottle in serious need of replacement. All that dirt and dust in the ladies room gave me the heebee-geebees. Breakfast for 2 was $44, overpriced for mediocre food. read more
