By far the most unpleasant dining experience we had during our two weeks in Italy. After reading positive reviews, we were looking for a place close to the Colosseum for dinner after a tour. We were only in Rome for the day and were taking the train back to Florence that evening. We were seated immediately and were able to order drinks. We knew what we wanted to eat, but the server told us to wait. So we waited. And waited. And waited. I asked him again if we could order our dinner, and again we were told to wait while the servers stood on the sidewalk chit chatting. After I heard him say the same thing to a mother with young children, I was annoyed. The place wasn't packed, and they should expect with their location that they're going to get a lot of tourists. Finally I explained to another server that we either needed to order now or we would have to leave. At that point he took our order and our food arrived quickly. We quickly shovelled the mediocre pizza in our faces, threw a 20€ note on the table and ran almost the whole way to the train station, almost missing our train. I could not believe how blatantly rude they were to customers. On top of that, the bathrooms were disgusting. Surely you can afford to install a seat on the toilet! read more

Slammed at 5pm, we were told to wait but we couldn't see a line so we asked how they knew who was first and the waitress just shrugged her shoulders. Being tired from walking, my husband asked to sit in a random chair with our baby while we waited. The host told us yes. Ten minutes later, the host tells us that if we want to eat,we need to wait in line and cannot sit there...wait, what? Did you not just 10 minutes prior sit us over here and now we have to wait in a line that is 4 groups deep? The place must be slammed for a reason right? So we wait. Big mistake. The waitress got into a conversation that we were having at our table and scolded me for something unrelated to her job! Honestly, focus I. What you are paid to do and don't get involved in my conversation. I was so upset that I literally could not eat more than 2 bites of food. I had such a sour taste in my mouth that everything tasted like crap. I give them 2 stars because of the price and that the food did come out quickly, but I seriously doubt that I will ever be back nor should you unless you enjoy random people putting their nose where it is not welcomed... read more

OMG. I love this restaurant. The waitress who served us was very friendly. She was very happy and willing to serve customers in the restaurant. However, I wait time between ordering food and getting the food on the table were a little bit long. Also, I don't know why people reviewed this restaurant with two $$. It should be one $ because I got a 1/4 roast chicken for 5 euros with potato. That's pretty awesome. Yes, there will be tourist inside. Let's be real, there are tourists because it is close to the Colosseo. Overall, this is an awesome restaurant to dine in. read more

This place was always packed when we walked by so we had to try it. We sat outside, sharing a table - which you'd think would be awkward but actually we met some nice people from Columbia seated next to us. The waitress seemed frazzled but she came through with our entire order. The ravioli was absolutely amazing! Would definitely recommend this place for a super convenient, tasty, and not-too pricey option for pasta and pizza while visiting Roma! read more

Great Italian restaurant. We took a Segway tour - which was really great - and we asked our guide for a place nearby. He recommended Luzzi, and he said that that is a place were he would go. It looked very authentic and homey. Service was great. There were a mix of locals and tourists. We tried their pasta, vegetables of the day and potatoes. All of them were absolutely delicious, and the best of all, it was very inexpensive relative to other experiences that we have had. read more

Walked by in Rome almost everyday while I was here as it was in the direction as to where I was staying. Always a long line so I went to try it one day to see why this was the case. I was disappointed when I got there as the food was not superb to have this many people. I ordered a pasta bacon with tomato sauce and the person I went with ordered lasagna with meat sauce. The pasta was hard and chewy whereas the lasagna was soft but taste burnt on the top. We also ordered prosciutto with melon. I've had better prosciutto than this place but the melon was super sweet. Nothing special. But!! 3 stars due to the wine. Their house red wine was good. It was sweet but not too sweet. I definitely recommend the house wine. read more

What a letdown. I arrived at 11:15 am ready to eat and they turned me away and told me to come back at noon. I came back at 11:50 and they had already sat people down and served them drinks. That should have been the first red flag. My mother and I ordered a pizza and gnocchi. The gnocchi came first which tasted like someone dumped tomato sauce onto some gnocchi's. It had no flavor. 30 min later the pizza showed up (how does it take that long) and let me tell you, Pizza Hut is better than this garbage. It was such a ripoff and I was stupid to trust TripAdvisor. The service here isn't great and the food is bland at best. You're better off going somewhere else. read more

I wandered into this place through TripAdvisor while lost in Rome, and although I love the fact the restaurant is a genuine Italian neighborhood restaurant that is filled only with locals, the food and service were only middle of the road. The pizza was dry and slightly overbaked, but the fritto misto was delicious. Perhaps people who can speak Italian fluently might have a better experience than I did. read more

We ate at Luzzi as our first real meal while on our Italian honeymoon (we won't count the little pizza slice joint we had for a quick lunch that day :)) We were so excited to be eating at a real Italian trattoria, and Luzzi fit the bill perfectly! We went a little crazy, ordering a beautiful Caprese salad to start, 2 pastas, a HUGE veal chop and a delicious plate of grilled squid. We also partook in plenty of house white wine. The pasta was cooked extremely well - probably better than any of the other pastas we sampled in all of Italy. The veal chop was DELICIOUS - perfectly cooked and seasoned, tender and very tasty. The squid was nicely cooked and tasty as well. We ate on their nicely-warmed outdoor patio with several other friendly locals and tourists. The food was delicious, the waitstaff was delightful, the prices were more than reasonable, and the overall experience of Luzzi was unforgettable It was truly the most wonderful way to begin our time in Italy and this wonderful beginning of our lives together! The only downside? Lots and lots of cigarette smoking all around - from other patrons, from people on the streets, from the waitstaff - it was the only thing that prevented our experience at Luzzi from being truly stellar. We know this is the Italian way, but it seemed the cigarettes were particularly present at Luzzi. read more

It was pretty good. It had an authentic feel, very homely. The pepperoni pizza (salame piccante, not to be confused with peperoni in Rome, which is sweet peppers), didn't have enough pepperoni on it. The cheese was very tasty on both my pizza and my wife's. She got the margarita pizza. Sodas are greatly priced at 1.50€ per can, and one bottle of water was enough for both of us (also 1.50€). Ladies beware: there is no seat on the only toilet available to guests, so plan on not using the restroom here unless, in my wife's words, you're able to "figure it out". Made reservations at 7:30 PM via Google the same day we were planning to go eat. Got confirmations of my reservation via text and email. When we got there at the reserved time however, we were told there are no seats left. This might of gotten lost in translation but the server/host told us if you make reservations on the day you plan to go, it will be reserved for the following day. She probably meant you can only make reservations for the following day. Regardless, the online booking was confirmed and I highly doubt they would honor any reservations as there was a table there but they gave it to the group that came before us. Maybe we got there before that group, they would have honored the reservation and there might have been a better review posted. Thankfully we found a place that had seats available nearby with great food called Pasqualino al Colosseo. I would definitely recommend them over Luzzi. read more

I'll get this out of the way: the food is decent and so are the prices. However, none of the good aspects could compensate for how bad the service is. I don't consider myself particularly entitled and as a former server I can appreciate how difficult the job can be when there are a lot of covers. But there are issues when you begin to feel completely neglected. It took a while for our order to get taken. That's fine - we have experienced plenty of that on our trip - we began to order food and the server interrupted us and said she was only taking orders for drinks. Ok. Then the wait for someone to come take our food order was long and then the wait to actually get the food was even longer (not sure if front of house or back of house are at fault here). Meanwhile, other tables are seemingly getting much more attention and faster service. We were prepared to order more drinks, more food and instead they took just €18 from our 90 minute meal while people waited for tables to be freed up. The owner/manager seemed liked a jovial and hospitable guy but he'd be better off making sure his staff are actually taking care of customers. read more

We pulled this out of a Rick Steves tour book and man was it dead on. Just finished with touring the Roman Forum and the Colesseum we were famished. Just a couple of blocks off of Via Celio Vibenna in the Laterno district, this restaurant caters to every Italian desire. The Prawn Risotto was delicate and creamy, the lasagna was meaty and rich, the man next to me had a whole baked fish, that didn't stink, if you know what I mean.... Everything we had was wonderful. Luzzi's one of the those popular restaurants that everyone would flock to during lunchtime. That's because the Colosseum is right around the corner. But more importantly, who wouldn't want to have a delicious meal on budget? My boyfriend and I peeked around to see if we should come during lunch time but the wait was just too long. We came back in the evening and absolutely enjoyed many things about this restaurant. The wait was not long at all, in fact, we were seated immediately. The staff were attentive and helpful, patiently guiding us through the menu. Waiting for our meals wasn't long either, which I was pleasantly surprised because the restaurant was packed. We both shared fried calamari, meat lasagna, butternut ravioli, and tiramisu. (There's something to be said about the calamari because my boyfriend normally hates eating fried food. He was really fascinated how tasty they were!) Overall, I am very satisfied to have spent my last night and meal in Rome at Luzzi. We've eaten here twice since we're staying at an AirBnB nearby! Not only that, it had consistently great food! The penne arribiata was awesome - full of roasted garlic and dried chilis in a tomato sauce, we couldn't stop ordering this dish. Their fettucini with mushrooms was also fantastic - I noticed a neighboring lady eating this the first night we were there and I was super jealous, I asked her later how it was and she said it was amazing, so I made sure to order it on our 2nd visit. It was so stinking good!! Their pizzas were also great - I was surprised to find such a good eatery so close to the Colosseum, and it's filled with both tourists and locals. During our day exploring the Roman ruins, we went here for lunch. The service was typical slow Italian, but when they were around the waiters were nice and spoke English. The two pasta dishes we had were good and very inexpensive. I had a ravioli with red sauce and my wife had a bacon and cheese pasta. They didn't appear to up charge at all for sitting outside, which was nice. I would recommend this place to tourists looking for cheap good eats near the Roman ruins. read more

So how would this super American white boy (white on the inside, anyway) describe Luzzi? One word: meraviglioso! (aka: wonderful). We arrived on a Saturday around 7pm with a group of 7. There was a fairly long line outside of the restaurant and at first we considered going elsewhere but decided to wait due to the reviews we had seen. The line moved very quickly (we stood no longer than 10 minutes), and we were quickly taken to our table - which was up the block - as Luzzi owns the main location at Via Dei San Giovanni, as well as a location on Via Dei Santissimi Quattro (one block away from the main location, less than a 30 second walk). To put it simply: we were not disappointed in waiting. The food and service were both impeccable, and very affordable. The pasta, lasagna, pizza, coffee, wine, and tiramisu were all very good. I definitely recommend visiting here if you're in the colosseum area of Rome. read more

This was our favorite pizza place in Italy! Delicious. Get the house wine, great deal for the amount they give you. Get in line early there's almost always a line out the door during busy times. When we went they didn't serve pizza until around 7, so that's just good to know! Luzzi was recommended by our driver, then later recommend by our Rick Steves guide. We didn't have a reservation, so we waited in line for 15-20 minutes. It was worth the wait. Spinach ricotta ravioli and pizzas were delicious. Green salad was well made. Pirovano Montepulciano was so good, my family ordered two bottles. We ate there a second time and it was just as good. I wish we'd had time to eat there again. I loved it. The ravioli was made to perfection. Everyone in my family loved their meal. read more

The best restaurant you will eat at. Every dish we've had here was perfect . Recommend going on Thursdays for the gnocchi. Went to other places in the day time when we wernt close by but nothing stood out like this place did. We kept coming back day after day. Tiramisu was perfect.
