We decided to try Wesley's/Lydia's since we had not been in many years. How nice it was! Inside is clean/neat with a fire burning for a c hilly morning. It was self-serve coffee to get started. Husband had a giant omelet with toast and breakfast potatoes that he said were seasoned beautifully (instead of plain and bland as some are...). I had my own "ask" an order of corned beef hash with one egg. Asked for the egg fully cooked. Neither of us could think of one thing to change. My egg was fully cooked but not dried out. The owner(?) came around to top off coffee twice and was very helpful to others coming and going. Specials on the board sounded delish for lunch- (seafood stew!). My boyfriend and I came here two days in a row for breakfast. Everything was DELICIOUS. Coming from the city, we enjoy and need some good food. Lydia's did not disappoint. Quiet and friendly atmosphere with a DIY coffee bar. Day 1 we both had eggs over easy with corned beef hash and we split the pancakes. Day two my boyfriend couldn't stop thinking about this pancakes so that's what he got. I went with the 2-2-2 w/ cinnamon French toast, eggs over medium, bacon and a side of the sweet potato and smoked turkey hash. That hash was absolutely amazing and I added the eggs yolk into it. I'm guessing I was directed to the employee bathroom? Food review: 1 other person occupied a table. I ordered eggs, bacon, and home fries. After a wait of 20+ minutes I asked about my order. The bacon was burned and black, so were the home fries. I didn't finish them. The eggs and coffee were fine. Although I'm banned (don't know how they'll know it's me), I wouldn't anyway go back. read more

Lydia's amazes me yet again. It's a Monday, mid-afternoon, and my cupboards are bare. I think of where I've had reliably good food and Lydia's is the first spot that comes to mind. Looking at my copy of their lunch menu, I call to ask about the soup of the day, but then I see "Shrimp Poboy". Now you have to understand that I lived in Pensacola Florida for 29 years and had access to fresh seafood any day and any meal that I desired. Also I was a frequent visitor to New Orleans where poboys were born and bred. I wondered if I was up for possibly being terribly disappointed by ordering a Louisiana sandwich up here in the Hudson Valley, but I was hungry for shrimp. Shrimp Poboy, sweet potato fries and a Coke $12.10 -- so far, so good. Back at home I'm nibbling on some fries while opening up my foil-wrapped sandwich. It sure looks good, and shrimp are falling off -- a good sign that Lydia's doesn't skimp on their shrimp. Ok. Here goes. Biting into the Poboy brings me joy. I am impressed. The shrimp are fried just right, it's dressed with lettuce and tomato, and it has a nice spicy mayo that gives it a good 'ol New Orleans kick. I'm full halfway through, so I'm saving the rest for a snack when I get home from work later tonight, and there are enough fries leftover for two more meals. I was so excited about finding a shrimp Po boy up here that I forgot to take a picture before I ate half of it! read more

I LOVE Lydia's - every time I come here it brightens my WHOLE day. The food is amazing, the staff is friendly and super efficient and you can literally be in and out in 5 mins (if you've called ahead to order your food). Sometimes that efficiency is super important especially when I'm running late! I would recommend for Breakfast & Lunch any day and every day. I haven't had dinner here yet BUT it's on my to-do list. Macaroni and cheese and...duck?? At first my though was "eww", but I had dined at Lydia's and had the duck dinner. It was pure perfection. So, as I had promised in my first review, I went today and got the duck mac&cheese to go. I changed my review from 4 to 5 stars because of the following: I walked in at around 1:30PM. The restaurant was due to close in half an hour (it was Sunday). I asked if it was possible to have the duck mac and cheese to go. It was not part of their Sunday menu but they obliged me and made it fresh. Can't beat that. I previously complained about the service. Today, I was helped immediately by a woman with the sunniest disposition. Even though I had take-out, I gave her a big tip. I had to. She was great. She new the customers by name. We were visiting the area and after searching for restaurants that were open, and we ended up at Lydia's because it was open and nearby. I'm so happy this happened because we loved it! I had the beef soup and it was delicious. My wife had the burger and we shared chicken wings as an appetizer. I also had the chicken meal and it was some of the best fried chicken I've had - it was flavorful and very crispy. The place was cozy and the service was great - attentive, prompt and welcoming! Roni (the chef) was very nice and attentive to detail in her cooking. She spoke to us a bit about her process in smoking meats, making broths, and making her special crispy duck. We loved it so much we decided to come back the next night for their NYE dinner. They had live music and a delicious meal. I had the crispy duck and a delicious carrot cake for dessert. The place was full of what seemed to be family and friends, so it seems like it's a local favorite. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area. What a mess. I don't even know where to start. We should have had a clue when the waitress/bartender had to look up how to make a dirty martini. Next clue, the salad with Greek dressing. I was not aware that greek dressing is just oil with a splash of vinegar. Salmon with white wine and capers? There were 3, count them, 3 capers on the plate with dry tasteless rice. Let's talk about the black crab cakes. Yes, crab cakes turn black when you burn them. So when you complain about black crab cakes you get told your taste buds are off. I guess if you are used to eating bland, unseasoned food burnt crab doesn't bother you. Then there was the 15 minute wait for the bill for the over priced gruel and the snide comment that it is too bad we aren't staying for the music, it's pretty good. We went in around 3 PM one day to get some food. The drinks there were a little expensive, but I had a ham and honey mustard sandwich there called the Kripplebusher which I absolutely loved. So glad to have lunch today at Lydia's. In the summer, we like the tables outdoors on the small stone terrace, but in the winter the fireplace and warm burgundy coloring of the interior was just right. Wine &beer choices, and carefully cooked and tastefully presented sandwiches served by friendly servers made our lunch a pleasant and satisfying experience. After a long day we pulled into Lydias for dinner but there were no tables avail and we almost left. Mark, the owner was incredibly gracious, tried many ways to make space, set up a small table, squeeze us in at the bar. In the end he made room for us on the patio, served us himself and was incredibly pleasant and warm. A rare treat for sure. The Duck and Fried Chicken were delicious and the food came out within ten minutes. Mark continued to check in, chat with us and did the same with another couple nearby. My husband had heuvos rancheros which were cold tortillas with eggs on top them you dump black beans, guacamole, sour cream all cold on top. No cheese no heat. Not happy. I had quiche. Leftover from last couple days, not flaky, needed salt and I don't usually add salt. Didn't tell us we needed to get our own coffee. When we did the was no coffee and cream was out too. The beer list was too long, my only complaint. And no Guinness. But I prefer Murphy's Stout anyway & compromised & ordered a Stella. Too many IPA's, lol..
