There's something wonderfully comforting about a good neighborhood café, and Café Mío in Gardiner delivered exactly what we were looking for this morning. I went with the Homemade Corned Beef Hash, topped with two eggs and served with toast. Rich and savory, it paired especially well with a side of sautéed mushrooms, whose earthy flavor brought a nice balance to the richness of the hash. I also ordered a cup of their fresh broccoli cheddar soup because, well, why not have soup with breakfast? It was delicious and absolutely worth the detour. My breakfast companion went with the Mio Breakfast, two eggs, bacon, potatoes, salad greens and toast. Classic breakfast comfort food done right. We washed it all down with a refreshing iced caramel latte. The staff were super nice, and I was genuinely surprised by how quickly our food came out. I've passed by this spot countless of times. I finally stopped by and it's a cute spot. More on the rustic side of things. We had the sweetest server. I had gotten the banh mi. It wasn't your traditional banh mi but that wasn't a bad thing! It was a special that they had. The fish was just perfectly crisp, the serving size is decent. The fries had the right amount of salt. I will say that what would really take it to a 5, is more pickled vegetables, and a better choice of bread to stand up to its contents. But I had a refreshing lavender lemonade. read more

Stopped at Cafe Mio for a late breakfast yesterday w/ the wife. We sat outside, because we were with our mini poodle, but the weather has also been outstanding during our stay in the area. My wife wanted the House-made Corn Beef Hash and I went with the Apple Cinnamon French Toast (w/ a side of sausage). My wife also had a Pumpkin Spiced Latte. I went back inside to place the order and the meals came out after a short wait. Everything hit the spot, my French Toast was quite tasty, and my sausage had a crisp outing coating, very nice. My wife loved her Hash (some decent sized chunks of meat were in that hash), and she ended up ordering a 2nd Pumpkin Spiced Latte. Unfortunately, we had to cut the meal short because a swarm of yellow jackets descended on us soon after our food arrived. There was a warning sign about the yellow jackets, so this is in no way faulting Cafe Mio, it was what it was. We had a similar experience two days earlier at Lola's in New Paltz, it's just the time of year that these nasty creatures will be attracted to food. So we boxed up the rest of our meals in takeout containers and finished our breakfasts the next morning. Cafe Mio serves excellent food, we would certainly come back if we were in the area again. It is a bit on the pricey side, our meals today were over $50 (before tip), that's a lot for breakfast. But like I said, everything was Top Notch quality. read more

Went for a rainy, misty Sunday morning brunch, and the first thing I realized after reaching there was there was no network or wifi. In a way, it was great because we were in the moment and enjoying our food. The ambiance was a pretty cafe in a small town. It was pretty crowded as well. I overheard someone saying that there are days when the waiting is 45 mins. Thankfully we did not have to wait to be seated. What did we order? ~ We ordered the day's special broccoli rabe and beetroot omelet with a side of potatoes and toast. It was delicious. And someone who loves their veggies like me would love it. ~ Veggie tofu scramble - replaced it with eggs. Was yum. Lots of veggies with a side of toast and potatoes. ~ Nutella latte - one-word DELICIOUS! Perfect start to our morning. ~ To end our brunch we ordered apple cinnamon French toast even though we were full. And we managed to eat 90 percent of it. This place is cozy, inviting and bright. I can actually read the menu without resorting to my phone's flashlight app. The staff is all very friendly and welcoming. They are almost always busy but since they've expanded their space I don't remember ever having to wait more than five minutes for a table. Which is good since it's first come first served. The menu is just big enough to give you some variety but not overwhelming. They serve everything with bread that is freshly baked, the coffee is delicious and comes in nice big mugs with refills available. I ordered the ham and cheddar omelet $14 my wife had the breakfast sandwich about $9. Both came with a salad. Mine filled a cup and hers took half the plate. The Breakfast Sandwich is definitely a better. Deal. Both had three eggs, cheddar cheese and ham. But there were four slices of bread and a larger salad. And $9 less. They tasted great. Ok, the food was tasty but they have to work on their presentation. I wanted 2 eggs over light and rye toast. I always dip my toast in my eggs. Simple, right? One yolk was broken open and thoroughly cooked, so no dipping that egg. Also, they only give you one slice of toast, and the eggs were presented on top of the home fries so the cooked yolk was blended in with The Home fries. Maybe I am being fussy, but I feel your food should have their separate places on the plate, not all piled on top of each other. Also, two slices of toast is the American standard, and over light means over light, not one cooked and the other over light. Other than that, the food was good. The wait staff were friendly. I adored this place. The food was spectacular. The drinks were yummy and a good pour. The servers were incredibly friendly, honest and attentive. The menu was full of creative flavors and priced very well. I adored my lamb ribs. Truly fell off the bone and were a total delight. The bf had the sausage and peppers sandwich which was hard to eat because of the bun. He ate it open face and was happy but would have preferred a toasted roll. The fries he had were heavenly and crisp and just the right amount of truffled to be flavorful and addictive but not overpowering. We can't wait to return! I came here for breakfast with a friend, greeted warmly as we entered and took my seat. the waitress was very nice and give us and menus and pointed out the specials. I got black forest ham omelet. the food was pretty quick to my table. as for the omelet i liked they put big diced chucks of ham, so they were not skimpy for sure, eggs were very fluffy, which is great since omelets are usually pretty flat. cheese was melted complete and oozed out. bread served was awesome and clearly freshly baked, love the rustic taste. side salad that came with dish, was alright, really wish they dressed the salad more with dressing. great breakfast/brunch for sure. read more

Visited Café Mio late Sunday morning for breakfast per recommendations from locals. I called ahead while on the way to see if there was a wait and if I could put my name in, but the woman just told me the wait time and said she'd see my in a bit - guess they don't do that. When we arrived 15 minutes later, the wait head gone up from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. We said we were comfortable with bar seats if they opened up first. They had a few tables outdoors where we could have sat immediately but it was a little too chilly to sit in the shade. It did take nearly the full 30 minutes for us to get seated at the bar. Since we had plenty of time to look at the menu ahead of time, we ordered immediately as soon as we sat. The café serves breakfast all day and sandwiches and salads for lunch; they also had a menu of specials. I opted for the Goat Cheese Omelet w/ Spinach + Mushrooms, sub potatoes, off their main menu and my bf ordered a chili special they had. The food came out nice and hot and very quickly. The omelet was a hearty portion and they did not skimp on the fillings. The potatoes were crispy and tasty. The chili special was on the smaller size but also very tasty. The couple next to us ordered truffle fries and it was the largest bowl of fries I had ever seen! We both really enjoyed our meals and the servers were pleasant. My only complaint would be it took a long time for someone to settle our tab. Other than that, I can see why this place draws a crowd. Stopped here for breakfast as it was recommended by the Airbnb owner. It was about 10an when we got there and seemed kind of crowded . I wanted outdoor seating so she I put my name in the waiting list. I asked if the 3 tables outside were it. She said yes and said 20 mins and handed me the electronic device to alert us. We sat and waited outside while seeing if any of the tables were freed up. Fifteen mins Later one was available so we sat. When a waitress came by she asked if we were on the wait list, I said yes and showed her the electronic device, it had not alerted us. No one who came before us was waiting for the outside tables. She came back and said ok but we needed to place the order inside. That part was not clearly displayed, I later saw it on a chalk board . I placed my order and waited. It didn't take very long, they brought our coffee first . Cups were nice and large and coffee was good .they didn't ask what type of creamer so I guess they didn't have non dairy but it's ok. Food came and we had the banana bread French toast and the Mio eggs . Both were delicious and we did get refills on our coffee. Awfully sweet "lavender london fog" and "chai" latte. The lavender fog taste nothing of lavender or black tea but of a very mild typical chai tea flavor and a pound of sweetener. The Chai latte taste nothing like a good spiced authentic chai but was slightly stronger in flavor than the fog latte. The almond croissant was also another heart attack of sweetness so we opted out of ordering any further for fear of getting a cavity from the next item we would have ordered. It's not like most canned corn beef hash - this was the real deal shredded corn beef that you would get in a sandwich. They put eggs of your choice which they gave us scrambled egg instead of fried eggs but it wasn't that big of a deal. I put salt , pepper, some ketchup and lots of the Sriracha sauce and I was good to go. Hearty meal and hit the spot. We came here (party of five) on our way to Minnewaska. I think we came here by way of a recommendation by someone in town, who we asked directions from. We came in some time after 12, and it got really crowded after that, so even though this is a small town I think you're gonna want to get here not much later than 12 if you want to avoid a wait. The choices are all great here and I felt like the service was pretty good too- the servers were a little bit too busy maybe and forgot one or two things, but they were all very friendly so I suppose that makes up for it. The cafe is also quite charming, and since it started snowing while we were here, it served as a great reprieve from the elements. Again, this is a good choice if you want to make a stop before driving the final 20 minutes to Minnewaska. I got the breakfast sandwich, which comes with either a salad side or roasted potatoes for +$1 extra. My server failed to mention that it was a dollar extra when I ordered, and while I wish she had, it's a negligible price so whatever. Everyone else ordered something different, but everyone seemed pleased by their order (the burger, a grilled cheese, soup). The breakfast sandwich itself is actually really big, and totally good value for your money, so definitely stop by here if you're hungry. read more
