I was excited to go to Lyle's with my friends for a festive NYE dinner, but had a disappointing experience. While the space itself is beautiful, our food was mediocre. The "truffle risotto" was overcooked and under-seasoned. My friends ordered steak, which was also entirely under-seasoned. For dessert, we all ordered "creme brulee" which was not at all creme brulee, but instead more of a custard tart. The crust on mine was visibly damaged. On top of the mediocre food, service wasn't spectacular either. We spoke to the manager about our issues, and were met with a dismissive and rude attitude. While they did discount our bill, at $115 per person for this prefix NYE dinner, it's unacceptable to be anything but polite to guests who are having a sub-par experience. I'm sad to say I won't be returning to Lyle's. read more

The first thing I wanna say is that they 'close' at 3pm for brunch but they do not make their policy apparent so they'll let you book a 2:15/2:30/2:45 reservation and then when you get there be like 'oh you have 20 minutes for bottomless' I get this policy but tell people or don't let them book RIGHT before kitchen/bar close This being said, the server hooked up 2 pitchers for us and the food, beverages and atmosphere were great. I came here during brunch for a birthday celebration. Perfect spot for a classy clean aesthetic. They had Ceiling windows that let in perfect lighting, especially if you want to take pictures. The seating was so comfortable. The servers were well dressed and polite. They had a DJ, who played an variety of fun classic hits. Our entire party didn't arrive till late in the afternoon so we had about 30 minutes of bottomless mimosas and our service made sure we got our drinks (Lee I believe his name was). Walking in was so warm and cozy, what a cute hotel. This was Mother's Day brunch with my son and friends and the restaurant was so cute, with a warm inviting vibe the way it was decorated. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and sat down m, we were table of eight there was a DJ with a wonderful music to go along with the vibe of the restaurant. Isaiah was out server and he was fantastic he gave many recommendations and introduced us to the menu, as we waited and couldn't decide on what to order so we ordered a variety. Ok this will start out shaky, however when making reservations the manager was very interested in us being on time. We were driving from Baltimore and I had all of my friends drive to dc to go to Brunch at Lyles. Because traffic hit we called to say we may be a bit late. The manager said she would see what she could do but no guarantees. My friends and I contemplated going to another place but we decided to continue with our original plans. While staying at the hotel, we enjoyed coming here on several occasions for their craft drinks & appetizers. The space is both modern and comfortable with lots of cozy nooks to share with your party. We on the other hand had to flag ours down. 1. Drinks were delicious. 2. Brussel sprouts were dry the sauce was good. 3. Salmon agua Chile was really good. 4. Branzino-was fresh and flakey but lacked flavor. Ask for salt, it was better with a little salt and pepper. 5. Crème brûlée cheesecake was HORRIBLE, I've had fresher tastier cheesecake from Safeway. The hotel is a lovely example of the Art Deco style. The rooms are nicely laid out and appointed without being crowded. Very comfortable. The bar is often closed during the day and when it is open is extremely loud. Why its not open at three in the afternoon when check in is at four, I cannot understand. Five guests waiting to check in were turned away from an early cocktail after a long day of travel because the bar wasn't open until four. ( I arrived at 3:15pm and was turned away.) Left all of us to go find somewhere else to spend our money. The restaurant was good. A small menu with simple, elegant options prepared well. The porter and valet staff were attentive and polite - when they weren't on their phones. The desk staff were adequate but not exemplary. Which is what I would say given only one sentence to describe this hotel. Adequate not exemplary. Lack of professionalism (dirty uniforms, or a complete lack of uniform or hotel dress in some cases - poorly stocked supplies ( had to ask for everything). Granted my requests were met immediately, but were caused by a lackluster staff. Someone else's contact lenses dried out and stuck to the floor in the bathroom, broken soap dispensers, no decaf coffee or creamer in the room. I expected more somehow. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. read more

I came here for a birthday dinner. The service and atmosphere was nice. They seated us immediately after the majority of the party arrived. They were playing popular R&B songs at a good volume so you could still hear your guests clearly. The restaurant was dimly lit, not the best for pictures, but it wasn't too dark. The server frequently stopped by the table to refill water and ask for additional drink orders, etc. My only complaint about the service is it took nearly 35 minutes to get our checks sorted out after we stopped eating. I'd give the Lamb Meatballs a 9/10, very delicious and more filling than I expected. The sauce paired well with the lamb meatballs and I'd absolutely order this again. I'd give The Braised Short Rib a 6.5/10. It was very tender on the inside and well-seasoned but definitely burnt on the outside, and the sauce did not mask the underlying burnt taste. Also I don't think the cabbage paired well with the short rib. The cabbage was under seasoned, firm, and oily. I personally would not reorder this dish. Others at the table also complained of having burnt food. (One friend's salmon was hard and burnt at the top, another stated her fried chicken was fried hard/burnt and tasted a little bland on the inside). I heard the drinks were delicious though! So if I came back I might just order a few drinks and the lamb meatballs, but I probably wouldn't recommend this spot for a birthday dinner. The food was good and highly recommend both the Lyle's Benedict and the french toast. We asked the waiter to replace the ham for a vegetarian option which he said he could do (came out with avocado). When the check came, we saw that they charged us $4 for avocado. Would have loved if the waiter confirmed the additional charge with us beforehand as we assumed it was a complimentary substitution. The ambiance was soft and bright. Really liked the dining area. Location was great and very close to DuPont circle.
