Popped in on a Saturday afternoon. The location wasn't very busy. It's off a busy street so if you're sitting outside it can be noisy. Patio is dog friendly though! Lynfred sources their grapes from all over the country so there is not a vineyard on site at this location. Wines were good but nothing really blew me away. I did enjoy the rhubarb enough to take a bottle home though. They have special pricing for "members" but unless you think you'll frequent the winery enough, memberships did not seem worth it. read more

I am impress with their wines, almost no sulfites but the natural one. I love their Montepulciano! Plus the other reds. What a sweet little gem! I've driven by Lynfred Winery almost every day for the past 5 years and have heard nothing but wonderful things about it, but didn't have the chance to pop in until a couple of weeks ago for their Mimosa Beach Getaway special event with a women's group that I organize. Let's start by saying that I am not a fan of all of the wine memberships in the area, and I don't typically drink the Kool-aid ... er, wine. Upon walking in, there is a very long standing-only bar with a few seating areas for 2-3 people scattered around. I was quickly greeted and explained that this was my first time at Lynfred Winery, and the woman (so sorry I didn't catch your name!!) was so sweet to quickly reserve the more private area off to the left once learning that I was meeting 10 other ladies. She also gave me a quick tour of the membership loft before explaining all of the membership perks before the other ladies arrived. I wound up purchasing the white wine membership for $19.99 a month. What was more amazing was that they allowed the other ladies in my group to take advantage of the membership that I had just purchased (10% off bottles of wine, and the discounted tasting price as well). Just note that there for safety reasons, each guest is only allowed two experiences per visit (2 glasses of wine, 14 tastings, OR 1 glass of wine + the 7 tastings), which is plenty, as I only made it to 5 tastings lol. Definitely scope out their amazing wine selection, hot pepper jam, and adorable gifts! We decide to try the fruit wine, wine tasting. It was phenomenal. My boyfriend is not a wine drinker, but even he enjoyed it. Service was incredible, thanks to Amber! Amber is the absolute sweetest! To the person that rated Lynfred 1 star and advised patrons to go to Coopers Hawk....the Founder Tim McEnery that started Coopers came from Lynfred. The difference between the two is that Lynfred ages their wine in oak barrels which take more time, hence they have a limited supply. Whereas Coopers ages in steel barrels I believe which allows them to produce much more wine faster. I like both but I would never say Lynfred tastes cheaper than Coopers. If anything, I'd say the very opposite. Just my opinion. read more

Been a Lynfred member forever! I've visited this location a few times. I came for the cookies and wine on my birthday last year before Christmas. It was great! It's not exactly like the Roselle location in that the you can have a smaller tasting than the typical 7 plus so that's nice since my date didn't want to sample too many wines. I was surprise by the honor system. We paid after we were done rather than upfront like we do in Roselle. Probably cause this location is smaller and not as busy but it's still so nice. I'm liking that it was quieter than Roselle (probably cause there's less guests at once). I enjoyed this location especially when they noticed my Cubs phone cover and they switched from the CWS game to the Cubs! That was a bonus. Being that the location is a no tip location, I really enjoyed the fact that now you can tip and it goes to a charity that all the locations pool their tips for. How nice. Of course I'll tip for charity! I have a feeling that this idea will take off and the select charities will definitely benefit of all the wine lushes like myself. read more

I have lived in the area for a long time but never stopped in Lynfred until recently. The environment is warm, cozy and relaxing and the staff is friendly. The variety of wines are plentiful and you are urged to take your time and really enjoy one of the organized tastings. I became aware of Lynfred Winery from purchasing a bottle from World Market which is what sparked this visit, as I wanted to better understand the full range of their offerings. Due to time constraints, I needed to quickly decide between two flavors and make my purchase. The staff was able to accommodate my request for a literal "sip" of my two choices and I was able to quickly ascertain which wine to buy so that I could be on my way. I went with some friends for a relaxing, Sunday afternoon wine tasting. They are members, so we went to the member suit and had Alex as our bartender. She was phenomenal and made the entire experience. The room was loud and a little rowdy. But she kept the room in check, and made sure everyone was having a good time. We had so much fun, and loved her so much, that my boyfriend and i signed up for a wine club membership. All thanks to her! It's not as great as their Roselle location but if you want to pick up Roselle wines closer to the Wheeling area, it's nice. Their location used to be surrounded by really nice antique shops but that's not so much the case anymore. It used to make for a fun set of activities to do around this branch. Came here last Friday... you know how it goes: Wine, Dine, Sixty-Ni -- Just kidding! I came with my Mom and Grandma so there was none of that sixty-nonsense, but we did have one helluva time. It was my beautiful Grandmother's 73rd birthday and she somehow managed to go nearly 70 years without drinking alcohol. Crazy, right? Said she just never liked the taste of it... and then we poured her some wine and it was all up hill after that. Over the past few years my Grams has become quite the wine connoisseur. She bought a wine rack, she pairs her beverages with chocolate, cheese and olives, and we even took her to wine country the summer after my Grandfather passed away. It was a blast, although her tolerance is next to none and she did get a little cray at one winery that had a guy playing the soundtrack to The Lion King on a saxophone. The woman just loves her some sax-a-ma-phone. What can ya do? So we decided to start the 73rd birthday celebration off the right way -- with booze. LOTS of booze. Okay, not really. We had one glass each, but this is one case where exaggerating just sounds so much cooler and I was really hoping to win you (yes, YOU) over with that line. Inside the tucked-away house where the Wheeling storefront of Lynfred Winery lives, lies a small tasting room and shop. The menu of wines s posted on the dry erase board and also on the front and back of the papers located at the bar. The bar, like most tasting areas, is standing-room only, but there are a very minimal amount of tables (like, 2-3) near the entryway and also some nice picnic tables with large umbrellas overhead located outside on the front part of the property, and since the weather was so perfect, that's where we chose to sit. On their menu, you can choose from the reds, whites, and fruit wines. They offer full glasses or tastings of 3, 5, and 7, I believe, for a very nominal fee. And that nominal fee was made even more nominal after I signed up for their wine club and received the member's price on everything we bought that day (3 different glasses of fruit wine and a pretty hefty cheese plate served with bread, honey and cracked pepper) for exactly $20, making each item we had only $5. Such a steal. I normally drink beer, but Lynfred is one winery that's totally worth switching up the imbibing ritual for. I loved everything that we tried (obviously, since I signed up for the wine members club -- which is an insanely good deal, by the way) but what really surprised me was how affordable everything was and how comfortable they allow you to feel. Lynfred of Wheeling is no Napa Valley, but that's what makes me love it even more. I didn't feel under-dressed for the setting or under-educated about the product thanks to super friendly staff. No wine snobs here. Just a really nice people who'll go out of their way to make your experience a memorable one. And if Wheeling isn't in your general neck of the woods, you needn't worry -- they've got locations in Naperville, Wheaton, and their flagship in Roselle that I'll promptly be hitting up next week. Nice, small winery tucked off the road. The tastings were 4 for $6 or 7 for $11. Only a select few of their wines are available for the tasting. They give you a sheet of paper with 12 listed (red, white, fruit & seasonal). They did have several other fruit bottles opened already, so they let us try them with our tasting. I enjoyed the fruit ones, especially the Rhubarb. This place is open 7 days a week. read more

Store Review: Wine tasting in the midwest! This is a great date place if you like wine and nosh. Since I have never been to a winery before, this was a great start. You start off with a tour of the winery from the wine caskets to the processing center getting the 411 on how to make wine. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. Afterwards you can select the wine tasting menu ~12 dollars and small nosh plates of cheese and crackers. I don't remember how many different types of wine I tried, but i definitely felt tipsy afterwards. Five stars and I'm not even a wine drinker? Yes! Thanks to a killer online deal I scored a ten person wine tasting here for only thirty bucks. Umm, best value ever. We had our own upstairs private space complete with a bar area and multiple rooms, including one with super comfy outdoor patio furniture. We were given handouts with all the info you could ever want about the wine - describing the aroma, taste, what it paired best with, etc. etc. We were given unlimited amounts of bread and two kinds of olive oil, regular and garlic. I ended up dragging home two bottles of the garlic if that says anything. The staff was super cool, and had no probs replenishing our food or answering questions. When a friend said she had a taste for chocolate our girl ran downstairs and brought up a selection. She even took the purchases, cut them up, and put them on a plate so everyone could share. All that for buying two four dollar chocolate bars. Ya, I dig it. Afterwards it was purchase time downstairs, which has a long bar for walk-in wine tastings and wine selections galore. There's also a cute selection of shirts, wine glasses, pasta-esque stuff, and olive oils. Overall, definitely a fun experience. Two of my friends were so impressed they joined their wine club, and even I the non-drinker brought home a bottle. I even bought another deal so I could do it all over again. Note: They have a no-tipping policy. Also, the one thing they don't advertise is the cute bunch of antique stores right next to them in their little hub off Milwaukee. I have had so many poor experiences with Illinois wineries that I almost gave up on going to them. I'm so glad I decided to stop in here. First of all most of the wine is great! They bring most of the grapes in from Napa, etc. and make the wine here. They do offer a few made with Illinois grapes- Not my favorite picks. The staff is amazing! They know the product and are really fun to chat with. Why can't other wineries seem to grasp this concept? We used to live in Long Grove but moved to Denver. Went there this morning to get some Illinois wine as a gift for a friend. The lady behind the bar was indifferent and uninterested. Tasted Fred's Red which was ok and when we asked to taste Fred's White we were told she was only supposed to give one free tasting but could give us a small sample of the white. Why we went ahead and spent $50.00 on three bottles of wine there I don't know but we got Illinois wine for our friend. Next time I'll go to Benny's. Went for an impromptu wine tasting with a friend on Wednesday night. The place was packed!! Unfortunate they were severely unstaffed....1 employee! We did the 7 tasting for $9. Price was great and the pours were large. Since there was only one employee we didn't get any explanation she just poured and moved on to the next person....this was definitely not the employees fault! I understand she was crazy busy and doing the best she could, but it still ruined the experience (please schedule more people!) As far as the wines go I wasn't really impressed. Most wines were in the $20-25 range, but I've bought $8 bottles that taste better. I love wine tasting and usually buy at least a bottle or join the wine club at every winery I go to but I just didn't taste anything I liked. They do change the tasting menu every month so maybe ill try it again next time....I would love to see the actual winery in roselle. read more

This is a fun little place to sample wine. The atmosphere is instantly friendly and familiar. The staff is quite knowledgeable. The irony is that I am a member of the wine club at the original Roselle branch and I have over 14 bottles still waiting for me there because I haven't been over to pick them up. Wine tastings are right up my alley. The girls and I stopped in for a tasting. It isn't a free tasting, but we tried 7 for $9. The wines were fairly good and Mike behind the counter was friendly and chatty! We also added a specialty tasting for another $3. They don't grow any of their own grapes, but the wine is made in Roselle. It was a good, fun experience, although slightly pricey for wine tastings. But, you have to expect that when they have a monopoly on being the only winery in the area. read more

Been a member for about 1 year. I really enjoy the monthly wine club (red) and find the wines to be high quality. I've given bottles as holiday gifts and recipients have been impressed. It is so much more enjoyable when the person pouring the tasting talks to you about the wines and 99% of the time I have felt taken care of as a member. Support local wine making and give them a try! We have been Lynfred members for a long time, and truly have found their wines to be exceptional. The pricing is also very reasonable. The selection includes wines for every taste, from the sweet and fruit wines to the outstanding whites. We are fans of the bolder reds, and yet to be disappointed in any bottle. Our membership brings us back to Wheeling at least once a month to taste and pick up the wine of the month. The staff at both Roselle and Wheeling are accommodating and could not be friendlier. It's like our own wine variation of Cheers. The Wheeling location is fun and very unique. Lynfred winery canvases a gambit of different wines and you have the ability to try them all. The sparkling rose is fantastic. The bread to cleanse you palette is home made and tasty. I am allergic to grapes.....but can still drink all the FRUIT wine I want because unlike many others wines Lynfred takes the time and card to make their fruit wines with 100% fruit and does not cut their fruit wines with grapes or partials (there is a more technical wine term for this) But you get my drift. For a person who thought they would NEVER be able to drink wine again Lynfred Wines Fruit Wines are the BOMB! And they actually pair better with some meals/meats than your average wines, I my opinion. Cranberry wine at Thanksgiving. Rhubarb wine with White fish or Sea Bass. Just you try it. I highly recommend a visit to Lynfred in Wheeling if you are ever in the NW burbs. Lynfred is known for their fine wines that are made right here in Illinois. They have something for every palate and they offer a lovely diverse tasting menu that changes monthly. The Wheeling location is quite charming (in the old antique village on Milwaukee Road) in an old house with a wonderful outside patio. The entire staff makes a strong effort to provide an outstanding experience for all those who visit. They have great knowledge of the Lynfred history as well as knowledge of the wines in which they sell/serve. The clientele is also very friendly and welcoming in conversing as they all share in the love of drinking wine. Such a lovely experience that all should stop for a visit.
