I called to see if they repair Viking sewing machines and they said yes, I could drop it off. So, I did. My machine is older but had always been reliable. I got it out to do a project and the stitch length was off and the machine only wanted to go in reverse. Weird. So, I took it to the store and the guy asked me about it, took my contact info and that was it. Nothing else was said, and I left it with him. I waited a few days and called to follow. I talked to a woman.NOW I'm asked if I had made an appointment. What? You never mentioned an appointment when I called the first time. NOW I'm told that it would be 10-12 WEEKS before he would even look at the machine. No one ever said that. (Actually the man who check the machine in hardly talked at all. It seemed to be a bother that I was there.) The woman on the phone said that their demand is so high. And rather curtly added that I could retrieve my machine. Well, I certainly did! And found another place that treated me much better. Poor communication!!! Poor customer service. I do not recommend this business. read more

I stopped in yesterday to ask for help on using the buttonhole system for my BabyLoc sewing machine. I could not understand the information in the instruction book. I was given immediate assistance, we sat down at a sewing machine, and I could compare my accessories with what was demonstrated. I was able to go straight to my machine at home and make buttonholes. I can't fault their service work, which is top notch. But one of the repairmen (late middle age with hair like Moe of the 3 Stooges, is rude and dismissive. I brought my Bernina in for general maintenance and this guy explained what was wrong by rolling his eyes and treating me like I was a moron. Since I'm a cardiologist with a great deal more education than a sewing machine repair guy, this was insulting to say the least. I won't be back. read more

I found this company on the web after searching for a small but, fragile part in the power head of my Miele canister vacuum cleaner. I ordered the part on their website and it was shipped the same day by first class mail. Two days later, it was in my mail box and I had my vacuum cleaner back in business. This is based solely on a phone call. My sewing machine was acting up and needed it fixed ASAP. I called and spoke with a woman who said they were booked out until the end of June (a little over a month away) for cleaning and tune-ups. However, she gave me a few troubleshooting tips and explained what to look for that might be causing the problem. She was very patient and informative and I truly appreciated her kindness. Any store that has a black cat as the store cat has to be cool and this is no exception The owner here is a fabulous man really. For my Mom sewing is her life she is older and is losing her sight and the remaining sight she has she loves to sew and he really understood. He is a very busy guy he treats me and my 30 buck repair as important as a sale of a 1000 buck machine. Many times My mom has brought in her machine and he has fixed something for a very minimal charge ...ok people they just don't do that anymore. This guy is a swell person he just is period! Product wise he also has a nice line of green products to clean, sprinkle absorbs smells/odors from cats. I bought the powder made from spices and herbs to sprinkle on the carpet. I am tired of the stuff with all the chemicals and this one I could recognize all the ingredients. M an R also sells cool vacuums and when I am in the market I will be going here because this man can fix stuff I will not be going to a box store where you have to end up getting a brand that is mostly plastic and breaks. He sells more upscale European brands and really the prices are really good. He also sells reconditioned vacuums he has fixed. Some of those older ones are the really good ones that can survive a nuclear blast. So if Mom or Grandma has a sewing machine that needs to be fixed come here..they sell new amazing machines Bernina Babylock they have classes here too! Great gift for someone to give them a class :) I would buy a machine or a vacuums from this guy because he is a HONEST man hard to find in this day and age. He is not out for the buck he helps people with good service and advice on their machines.. I myself work in sales and I really have an eye for liars. I just do not like them. WOW. Nice people great service. I recently moved to MSN with my not so old Miele vacuum but I have a hairy dog and my vacuum was very clogged and I could not get it unclogged. I brought it in and in 5 minutes they happily cleaned it out and my vacuum works like new again. AND they did not charge me. They could have and I would have paid but they said not a problem. They get my business going forward and I will tell everyone I know about their awesome service. Way to go. read more

I love my Miele vacuum. Quiet, powerful, easy to use. My house has central vac system and I just don't use it because it is loud, the hose is bulky and long and it just doesn't do the job like this Miele. When it appeared to malfunction, I took it back where I bought it: M&R. While one person wrote up the repair order, someone else asked me what wasn't working and quickly diagnosed a clog. Turns out I had inadvertently sucked up a sizable piece of fabric and the machine shut down to prevent overheating. Unplugged, straighten out the bag...good as new and out the door I went. No Charge. Honest, straightforward help. They could have easily charged me whatever. I will never go anywhere else to buy or service my vacuum. Nice folks, too. read more

M&R is a very busy little repair shop that does excellent work for a fair price. They are extremely helpful and will even troubleshoot basic issues at no charge or for a very small fee. I had problems with the thread tension on my machine after a broken needle. I brought the machine in and announced that I thought I needed service. I was upset to hear that they were booking out into end of October for real, benchtop, open-machine service repairs. However, they said, "Bring it in, let's have a look at it." Well, after 10 minutes in their able hands, they fixed the problem right on the front desk. Any problems that had to do with quirks of the machine, threading issues, worn-out parts, or maintenance, at least they can address those immediately. I was sent away with a working machine at no charge. So, if you have a real problem and need a full-on repair, there will be a wait. But bring your machine in and see if they can help with the basic stuff, they are very friendly and helpful. A nice selection of Babylock and Bernina machines, thread, and helpful service and repair. Call to schedule a regular tune-up and avoid the kind of problem I had. :P a great little shop with lots to recommend it. read more

Be cautious when getting replacement parts! I telephoned to ask if they had a specific bobbin case for a Singer machine. I telephoned in the specific model number and asked if they had the correct part in-stock. A friend in Madison was going to pick it up for me. She picked up the part and then telephoned me to say the part didn't look at all like the picture I had sent to her. Well there was a reason for that, they had sold her a bobbin case for a COMPLETELY different machine. She returned to the store while I telephoned them to say they had not sold her the correct bobbin case, and again ask provided them with the machine make and model. They assured me that they would provide her with the correct part when she returned. They provided her with a case that looked like the one in the photo - BUT not the right part number for my machine. Not even a close number to the accessory part needed. Now I sit an hours drive from Madison with a part and a machine that are not usable. Thinking I'll just order the right part online.... Annoyed read more

When my older model Bernina broke in the middle of my busy craft show season, I immediately looked for a Bernina dealer to fix it. I felt so lucky to have one in the Madison area & gave them a call expecting to be told there would be a wait and that I would need an appointment (I had read their website). Instead what I was told was to bring it on in & they would check it out right away & if it was a belt like I thought it was, they might be able to fix it while I waited. I was really surprised to hear this & asked the lady if she was sure because I live about 45 minutes from the shop & didn't want to come in if they didn't have time to deal with me today. She said again that it would be pretty quick for them to tell if they could fix it right away or not. So I packed up my two toddlers & drove into Madison with my poor broken machine. It all went downhill from here. First I walked in & talked to the nice older lady at the desk - this is who I had spoken with. She said one of the other people there would need to actually look at the machine. I waited with two toddlers for about 20 or so minutes as one of those two tried to make a sale, the other was presumably in the back working on repairs. Then the gentleman (one of the owners I think) doing repairs came out & irritably said there was no way he could tell what was wrong with the machine without taking the entire thing apart. At this point I offered to leave with the machine because I didn't have an appointment. Now the other female (who I think is the other owner) came over & offered to create a ticket for the machine without an appointment & they would see what was wrong with it. I accepted. HUGE mistake. It took another 20 minutes for them to enter a ticket (remind you, I have two toddlers trying to get into everything), while they did this I was questioned on whether I tried to take apart my machine & when I said no, my honesty was questioned. Finally the ticket was made & I left thinking I would hear back in a day or two as they said. Several days later I called to find out what was wrong & was told they hadn't had time to look at it. I determined I would just go get it Monday morning, but when I was called that afternoon & informed that a screw had been broken, they would order it & get it repaired by the following Friday (this was a Saturday) for about $50, I figured I would get it back & it would be fine. Two weeks later I still hadn't heard anything so I called to find out the exact amount I owed. Not only was the machine still not fixed, all they could tell me was that the part (a screw) had been ordered. They didn't know if it had come in, they didn't know when it would come in if it wasn't there, they didn't know when the machine would be fixed, and they had a huge attitude about the fact that I was irritated that they were way over their estimated amount of time. I walked in & picked up my machine that afternoon - still taken apart because when I wasn't going to have them do the repair they decided they didn't need to put it back together. I went across the street & had it repaired at The Electric Needle for $10 in about 20 minutes. I will NEVER go back here. If for any reason I absolutely NEED to see a Bernina dealer again (due to needing a Bernina specific part), I will drive to Milwaukee & do business with one there that I know cares about customer service. Otherwise ALL my sewing machine business will be done at The Electric Needle from now on. read more
