Terrible experience at M.D. Express Urgent Care (Newport News). I went in fully aware of what was wrong with me and exactly what I needed to get better - something my primary care physician has successfully prescribed for me multiple times in the past. After a culture confirmed what I already knew, I simply asked for the medication that I know works for my body. Instead, I was met with condescension and arrogance from Helena Lewis, the practitioner on duty, who outright refused to prescribe it. She informed me the side effects were too risky, despite me explaining clearly that I've taken this medication before with no problems - and that I'm well aware of the risks. Her response? Still no. Let me be clear: the medication I asked for is NOT a narcotic, it has no recreational value, and to my knowledge, it can't be abused or used to make illegal substances. Yet I walked out of there with nothing. I was essentially told that I was going to take what Ms. Lewis wanted me to take because she decided she knew my body better than me or my own doctor. She didn't listen, didn't trust my experience, and didn't care that I work 13-hour shifts for the next three days and couldn't wait to see my pcp or take more time off to do so. I've had far better experiences with Patient First, where they actually listen to the patient. M.D. Express, on the other hand, clearly prioritizes their own rigid opinions over patient care and common sense. Thanks for nothing! Helena Lewis clearly has a God complex and no interest in listening! I will NEVER return here - and I suggest you don't either, unless you enjoy wasting your time, money, and energy on a provider who thinks she knows your body better than you do! read more

They were great for myself 2 months ago and my son, 2 weeks ago. No issues whatsoever. They are kind and honest. The nurses did a good job of explaining what they were going to do, especially with the blood work. There is an online "wait in room" sign up. But, I just go in with the expectation that I could be there for a while. The rooms were very clean. read more

Poor in a myriad of facets. Qualified supervision required. Loud pop music sexual lyrics. Staff did not identify self or status in the medical profession, not 1 identification with the same present. Not rude but not polite either. Not all symptons were asseessed in triage. I was shocked at the loud voice gossip by staff, game playing with exam gloves as sling shots. The most unprofessional medical clinic I have ever experienced. Time to clean house. Visit June 30, 2025. I shall never visit such disappointment of MD Express, especially at Yorktown location. I took my elderly mother here in June 2024 for an urgent dermatologic issue. The office was spotless, the staff were attentive and competent, the doctor was wonderful with mom. Her problem was attended to promptly and with warmth and caring, and when we called with a question a few days later, they were very helpful. Highly recommend. read more

My husband and I each had a very positive experience at this urgent care facility. The entire staff is very friendly and took their time seeing each of us and listening to our needs. It was a clean facility as well. I wish they would though have had masks available at the front desk. An arduous sign in process while you are outside the clinic. You must call in first. They then have you talk to a nurse. Eventually they let you in. Pretty sure you can sign up online first. I was travelling and not from the area though. Don't go through this if you are bleeding etc. !! Once inside, the service was amazing. Blood test, urine test, Xray, and two visits with a doctor all in one hour! The prescription was phoned into Walmart 2 miles away. Walmart was fast too. Great doctors and nurses! read more

The doctors at this clinic do NOT listen to the patients. I've been here twice, both times I was not treated with the proper medication & had to go to another doctor a few days later to get what I needed to begin with. They take your co-pay and do nothing! Came to this location for a Covid test, the staff and doctor were extremely professional and sweet hearted! I was in and out within 30 minutes, SO IMPRESSIVE. Especially after waiting three hours at patient first! This location is extremely clean and they're taking all precautions necessary. Definitely recommend. read more

So impressed with the care my daughters received tonight. My 9 year old has been sick with a cough for 3.5 weeks with fevers off and on. Took her to another urgent care and to the base doctor and both said it was nothing. My 13 year old started with the same symptoms this past weekend and both their coughs were driving me nuts and sounded extremely painful. Decided I'd try again so visited this location after a coworker said she'd had a good experience here. From the moment I walked in (looking like a tired, desperate mom in my military uniform) we were treated awesome. Checkin was fast and easy. We waiting 5 minutes and were called back to get vitals done and taken to a room. We had a very professional team of nurses tend to both girls. Our doctor (sorry I can't remember his name, younger black gentleman) was very nice, caring and thorough. He came in several times to examine the girls and offered breathing treatments right away. I was there about 2 hours but I was ok with it since it was fast compared to other urgent cares I've been too and it was clear that my daughters were a priority. He prescribed medicine that they needed and even took the time to show me some over the counter meds I should try to boost their immune systems. I would definitely recommend this location and if I ever need urgent care again we will be back!! My 13 year old even asked if they had a regular clinic since she liked the staff and PA so much. Again so impressed and thankful my girls were finally taken seriously for a "cough" that turned into 2 cases of bronchitis and an ear infection!! read more

Had to bring my elderly mother on two different weekends in the last 4 months. I liked being able to wait in the car instead of a waiting room with other sick people. We only needed to wait 15 minutes for the second visit. We saw different doctors for each visit-they were polite and efficient. The rest of the staff was also courteous and helpful. I will continue to come here when I have a "urgent " care problem and can't see my primary care doctor. read more

In and out in about 3 hours, when I am used to 4 to 6 at other places. I might be suspicious of a place that was done too quickly unless I was the only one in the place. Good PA and staff which is a bit rare these days, in a whirlwind world of fleece and release. Note: I do self-pay, and the PA gave me itemized costs right to the penny. I came back in 1 hour as directed and waited an additional two hours before I left to go to the hospital instead. Why didn't I know to ever come to this location for anything from a simple to extreme situations... But if it something extreme for anyone they should be going to the ER. But I tell you the nurse Earlene (not sure if I spelled it correctly) and Dr. Pierce that saw me this evening couldn't be the most gracious and understanding as they can be. Initially I would have given this location a better score because I was seen quickly and the PA Kelsey seemed to listen and answer my questions. But not now. I went because I had bad diarrhea and felt that it was the c diff infection because I've had that before. I specifically told her this. She gave me a stool kit to take home. I mentioned again about c diff and she told me it would test for that. Now, almost one week later I get the results and this test did not test for c diff. Also looked at her notes and she did not put it in her notes that I even mentioned it. Another thing, the results should not have taken this long to get but the reason they did is because they sent it to a lab in BURLINGTON, NC! My diarrhea is worse now than it was. I was able to provide a stool sample to my PCP today. Hopefully, will get results sooner. But probably not until Monday. FYI: MDExpress may be associated with Riverside but they do not use a local lab so beware! PS: This review says I'm in California? I live in Newport News and went to Yorktown MD Express. read more

I visited M.D. Express today after I took a painful fall off my mountain bike and was left with a nasty cut on my chin. I was able to bandage it until I could get there, and I was quickly taken into an exam room. The nurse gathered the basic information and soon Garth, the PA, entered the room. He agreed that stitches were necessary and quickly gathered the supplies needed. He took my medication allergy into account when he used a local anesthetic and sewed up the wound. He talked me through the procedure and relieved my anxiety. The entire staff was very friendly and attended to my issue quickly. I feel like I was in and out of there much more quickly than I have ever been a hospital emergency room. This is my second visit to an MD Express with great results. After waiting at my child's primary care manager 's office recently over 45 minutes and still not seen, it makes me wish I could make MD Express my PCM. This is certainly the best choice when you need to be seen quickly and treated decently. read more

We were there on a high volume day so we did have a wait. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind; since we were on vacation and have insurance from out of state, they let us know exactly what we should anticipate in terms of payment. The PA took her time with us and made sure that we understood all of our options and gave us time to make choices. My daughter was a patient, not a number. This place is really poorly managed. I brought my grandmother here to get an X-ray after a fall, and have been sitting in the parking lot for nearly 3.5hrs, watching several people walk in who arrived after us. Multiple calls to the office asking to be seen have proven fruitless--they are simply met with just an endless chorus of "oops" on the other end. They are prioritizing Covid tests over an actual patient injury, which is both unethical and irresponsible. Don't come here. Try the one in Newport News. read more

Dr. Minneci was extremely rude. I took my son in for a sports physical and after being checked in and placed in a room the doctor came in and asked who the patient was and said " everyone else get out." There was no hi, hello, or I'm the doctor my name is... I asked if the mom needs to leave too and he just shook his head. So we left the room. He came out after a few minutes and walked right past me and went right to the nurses station. This is my 3rd bad experience at this little clinic in the past 4 years so this will be the last time. Horrible doctors! The nursing staff is nice but not all of them and the doctors are ridiculously rude and ignorant. Let me just say up front that I arrived at 8:50 pm tonight. I don't use Med Express for routine situations so I went because I was having a hard time breathing and could not stop coughing. I've got whatever respiratory thing is going around. I was told they couldn't see me because "we've reached our patient limit for today." The parking lot was empty and there was one person sitting in the waiting room, which I pointed out. I said "I am a Registered Nurse and I've never heard of such a thing." "Ma'am, we're getting ready to close." "Yes I know and I'm very sorry to come in right now but I'm here because I have fever and feel horrible." "I'm sorry but you can come back tomorrow." I don't think I would even take a sick animal here and will NEVER go to this place again!!! Completely unprofessional and uncaring and I've used this clinic many times before but I am done. I've managed to stay well during this entire Covid pandemic and the one time I really need to be seen, I'm the lucky winner - we can't see you because we've reached our patient limit for the day. Best urgent care offices I've ever been to. Ever. Sign in was quick and painless, waited in the waiting room for maybe 10 minutes. The nurse that helped us first was a little rude and impatient but the PA was really attentive and kind. Ended up needing to do x-rays for my son... another great thing about this place is that they do have pediatrics available. In and out in less than an hour. read more

I live in Florida, but was in Newport News for a wedding. Fell in the bathtub at a hotel, landing on the side of the tub. Had a great deal of pain. On advice of friends and relatives in the area, went to this urgent care center. Was seen within minutes of being checked in by a very pleasant receptionist. Shortly after being in the exam room, was seen by Dr. Elisa Labenne who examined me (gently!) and ordered xrays. These were done within just a few minutes. Dr Labenne returned and advised that I had multiple fractured ribs. She was very empathetic of my pain, and seemed caring and competent. The center provided me with my xrays on a disc to take to my local provider and I was called later and given the official radiology report. I am a former nurse, having worked in the ER and also urgent care. I was very impressed with the medical center overall and with the staff and MD. No one wants to have an injury away from home, but I'm glad I was advised to go to this facility. read more
