Amazing. I heard about this place for years and it has always been on my bucket list but due to time and location I could never get there and try their donuts. I finally was able to visit the place today and it is worth all the hype. The lady behind the counter was very kind and happy to fill out my order. She answered questions concerning the donut types, and when I forgot to ask for a receipt she gave the store printed receipt. She even added a handful of donut holes for free. A wonderful woman indeed. I chose a half dozen to take with me. The were so delicious that I could not stop eating them. Each standard donut were light and airy. An easy chew that made it pleasurable to eat. They were: 1) Glazed donut - A lightly sweet glaze without being too sweet. 2) Chocolate covered glazed donut - Soft sweet chocolate flavor that washed over the and melted into the donut flavor. 3) Butterscotch covered glazed donut - As soon as you bite into the butterscotch you can tell the rest of your day will be as sweet. 4) Cinnamon glazed donut - Before biting into the donut, you can smell the cinnamon, and it permeates your mouth as you devour this pleasant donut. 5) Chocolate glazed sourdough donut - a thick rich cake donut batter that is extra crunchy. Not too sweet but very satisfying. 6) Vanilla glazed cake donut - as with the sourdough donut, a thick but soft cake batter that was not too sweet but you could tell that this was a cake donut. What a great local donut shop serving the Pineville area. I needed something to take to the office for a meeting so I looked up and saw the reviews here and thought I'd come in. Super nice lady probably the owner was serving up the donuts that they baked fresh every day so I picked a couple of dozen and said mix it up and I got some really good fresh donuts and some free donut holes to serve to my colleagues. They were quite happy! The maple doughnut dipped in bacon bits was fantastic as was there plain glazed and chocolate glazed According to the crowd. Great value with excellent service and even picked up 10 or 12 bottled waters so this was great for me to take to the office for this training class. First time at MJs in a long time. I'm so sad. As soon as I looked at the case, I had this feeling they didn't look super fresh. I was there at 8:30 am. Sure enough, got home and the icing on several was already breaking down and oozing/watery in the box. That is a sure sign of old glaze. Been on a donut kick lately so, on a Friday morning, I decided to pop into this popular little Pineville shop while I was in the area to see what it's all about. The interior is as flashy as its nondescript exterior, which is not at all, but as warned by fellow Yelpers, the case was half empty by time I arrived at around 10:00. Fortunately, there were a few maple bacon donuts left so I went with one of those, along with a chocolate frosted cake donut and a couple of the most gigantic apple fritters that I have ever seen. The nice "donutista" server even tossed in a few donut holes on the house. Total damage: A modest 7 bucks. Righteous! The fritters were had the perfect crunchy outside and soft inside. The donuts were also moist and tasty. The maple bacon consisted of a yeast ring generously topped with bacon crumbles and the donut holes were light, airy and perfectly frosted. I love and appreciate such mom and pop shops and this one is another good one. Although not quite a Gotta Try, it is worth dropping by if you're in the area. read more

Easily in my top 3 favorite donut places in Charlotte. What I like most about M J Donuts is that they remind me of an old school bakery I would go to as a kid. Nothing super fancy about their donuts. Simple and taste great! Very reasonably priced. They always have the case stocked. Although I would recommend going early in the morning, especially on Saturday. I love love love the Boston Cream donut. That donut alone is worth the trip. I would also highly recommend their cinnamon roll. It is a different take on the cinnamon roll. More of a glazed flavor. Kind employee with jokes about see you tomorrow after adding in a MJ cream filled donut, not Boston but maybe Charlotte style. I don't think that exists...yet. Decided to try out this Donut shop to help support local businesses vs the big chains. There wasn't much of a selection to choose from considering I stopped by around 9am on a Sunday. Picked up a dozen donuts and was shocked to see it come out to a total of $29. My selections were: Cinnamon sugar - not much flavor Lemon filled - dough was very lacking compared to filling. Pumpkin spice - these were really good and had a lot of flavor Raspberry filled - haven't tried but assuming same issue with dough to filling ratio. down near the airport means closer to here, relatively, so here I am whirling away. been sampling doughnuts and related pastry all over the place like it's my job and M J's represents the product well. it's usually best to start with basics because "fancy" can hide a world of sins. so I got a pair of simple sugared cake donuts and am pleased to say they were well behaved and didn't befoul the bag during the hour and a half car ride home; yes they left no grease marks! yea! firm round cakes covered in sugars that stuck to mine fingers as I broke off pieces for consumption. no globby mess, no glaze-in-transition, no surprises which is always a pleasant surprise when sampling at distant donutoria and cakeries. also, the bonus baby donuts were lightly glazed and fluffy and a welcome addition to my day. kolaches were another unexpected treat! (central european dog-in-a-blanket to the uninitiated) these bites are the third best part of visiting Tejas after Dr & Mrs Bob and the basement of the Alamo in no particular order. would have really liked the tejano japs + cheese add-in but saw only the standard variety. so anyway, I'm not entirely certain that this is worth the 40 mile drive from the hinterlands but it's only 15 more minutes if you're coming down to Charlotte Douglas anyway... so why not have at it? read more

Walking in, you're hit with the yummy aroma of fresh baked goods. They offer donuts, cinnamon rolls and apple fritters. There's a wide assortment of flavors. Everything from glazed to filled long Johns. The prices are crazy cheap. Less than a dollar for donuts, and $2.05 for cinnamon rolls and apple fritters. They always throw donut holes in the bag at no charge, love that! If you're paying with a card, there's a $5 minimum purchase. So, if you're in the area, stop by. They sell out fast on the weekends.
