I visited M Sushi Bistro in Lodi, CA [212 S School St] on Thursday, 08/20/26, around 7:30 PM. This was my second visit since my first review over 5 years ago. For dinner service, the restaurant was noticeably packed and busy. However, I was able to get seated in less than 10 minutes. I had the following for dinner: - Seared Albacore Belly Carpaccio (prepared w/ garlic, green onions, olive oil, Serrano peppers, tobiko and ponzu) - Salmon Teriyaki Bento Dinner Plate (served w/ rice, miso soup, salad, and a sushi roll, which I proceeded with a California Roll) All of the food was totally incredible. The Belly Carpaccio was so light and fresh, with a whisper of spice from the Serrano peppers. The entire bento dinner plate was palatable and filling. I enjoyed everything, especially the Salmon Teriyaki, California Roll, and Miso Soup. The server during my dining experience was Joe. He was kind and friendly. The attentiveness was also decent. Overall, M Sushi Bistro met expectations with the execution of the food. I'd return to this restaurant again.
Review #1,107 Posted on 9.13.26 We came to eat at M Sushi Bistro on Saturday August 29th for our anniversary when nearby staying the night at the Appellation Spa & Resort. We had been recommended to this spot by some friends of ours. We had ate at another sushi spot in Lodi about a year ago that was excellent but our friends claimed this spot was even better. I thought to myself it couldn't be that good. Man this place was unreal. Their pride in their dishes, service, & food quality all blew me away. We tried a few different things. The chef's choice for sashimi was so good, fish was so flavorful and tender too. We also tried the breaded and fried lobster bites too. Also we got the spicy brussel sprouts too, excellent. Last item was the miso cod over rice, so tender and tasty. I will come back to this spot in a heartbeat. It's so good here. Highly highly recommend.
M sushi bistro is our go to sushi spot ever since we moved to Lodi! I love the ambiance of this place and their food is soooo yummy. Service is usually pretty good unless they're busy! The workers there are all very sweet and nice. My favorite thing to order is the sashimi moriswase which comes with 15 pieces of fish that are the chef's choice. I LOOOVEEEE the blue fin tuna. It just melts in your mouth. The smoky Peyton roll is also delicious. My only complaint is I wish they were open every day (they're closed Monday & Tuesday)
We've never been to M Sushi before and have wanted to try it, so my husband brought me and our 16-year-old daughter here on my birthday tonight. It's a Saturday and we got there around 6 o'clock, so we expected a wait. We were told a half an hour, but we ended up waiting about an hour. Normally, we would understand. I mean, the host can't tell when people are going to linger on tables or take their time eating so that isn't their fault. That wasn't the issue. The issue was we were a party of three and probably about a half an hour after we came in another party of three came. They waited about 10 minutes and got seated, well before us. The host must've noticed I was watching because he came right up to us after he seated them and said he was sorry for the wait and we were next. I didn't say anything, but considering this place does not take reservations, it wasn't a very good first impression. Once we were seated, the server was very attentive. Water was filled repeatedly when it got low and food was brought out pretty quickly, considering how crowded it was. We ordered garlic edamame as an appetizer, and it was really good. I ordered a Hudson delight roll, which was a little spicy, but very good. I also ordered salmon and tuna Nigiri. All of it was very fresh tasting and good. The miso soup was excellent. So, all in all, it's a bit pricey, even for sushi, and it's extremely loud, but the food is good and I'm sure we will go back. Just maybe not on a Saturday night.
We were driving home from Sacramento and looking for some food. Of all the options, sushi sounded the best. M Sushi is only about 5 min off the freeway entrance. Not too bad. As we are walking up, I start to wonder about the town we are in. How is my mixed nationality family going to be received? I forget what city it was, but I remember once making a quick stop off the 99 for a break, and feeling like we stood out like sore thumbs. Fortunately that wasn't our experience today. We walk in and we are warmly greeted. The restaurant is fairly busy, so we get seated way in the back....near the restroom. We start looking over the menu, making our drink orders, and my wife asks if I smell something? I don't, but my son, who is sitting closer to the restrooms says, he does. After we make our orders, my wife can't take it anymore and gets up and asks to be seated at another table. A couple of tables have cleared, so we get seated closer to the center. After which, my son says that he was starting to feel sick at our old seats. Had we not moved, I think they both would have been miserable. From here on out, it's just good times. The food arrives. My wife and I got bento boxes. Katsu chicken for me, sesame chicken for her. The kids all get sushi the rainbow roll, all in one (I believe), and a hand roll. My son would later say that he thought the hand roll was bigger and that he wish he would have gotten something else, even though in the pictures, it was clearly smaller than the other rolls. While I'm on the subject. The way the rolls looked in the pictures, they look small, because they are paired into 4 sections. Everybody missed the fact that each section was cut in half, giving you 8 pieces. If you're not looking at the detail, it just looks like 4 pieces. In the end, I think the smallest roll we got was 9 slices. The hand roll, though, was probably comparable to 6 sushi slices. But, with the 2 bento boxes, we had plenty of food. I also came to learn that not all katsu sauces are the same. Back home, I've only ever had Maui katsu sauce. At M Bitro, I learned what Japanese katsu sauce is supposed to taste like, and I gotta say, I'm not a fan. I was so disappointed with the strong taste of ketchup that my first thought was, this isn't katsu sauce. What I'm familiar with is sweeter. Well, after a quick Google search of katsu sauce, it turns out, the main ingredient is......ketchup! Yeah, nobody in the family liked it. I'm also not going to knock M Sushi for being authentic. Unless somebody forgot to add the sugar.... Yeah, I can't say for sure. To be continued for sure. In summary, great food, good time. 2 more hours on the road before we got home. Only one real complain that had us changing seats. Easy fix
M Sushi continues to be one of my favorite spots for sushi in the Central Valley. Prices have definitely gone up over the years, but that's expected with the current economy. Even so, the quality is still there. The fish is fresh, the presentation is beautiful, and overall, the food is consistently good and I'm satisfied every visit, even when doing take out. I do hope they expand someday because the restaurant itself is pretty small and gets very busy. Minh, the owner, is there every day and clearly takes a lot of pride in the work and care that goes into curating each dish. Here are a few of our favorites: Hamachi Crudo 5/5 Roll Over Lobster 5/5 Crispy Brussel Sprouts 5/5 Salmon Skin Trio Handroll 5/5: one of my favorites Preggo Roll 4/5 - my kids love this lol Smokey Peyton 5/5: my personal favorite To Die For 5/5 Inferno Roll 4/5 Killer Bri 4/5 The M 5/5 - this is the most expensive roll on their menu but it's good. We've also had their nigiri and sashimi, and both have always been excellent. They also have omakase which I still have yet to experience. Overall, the dishes here are worth it and if you deep pockets, you can easily splurge.
WATCH OUT THAT THERE IS ANOTHER SUSHI PLACE ACROSS THE STREET (I thought it was a recent name change but it's a different restaurant with a subpar rating). FOOD: the food is HECKA expensive and in my opinion, totally not worth the price tag. For example, the nigiri, sashimi, chirashi combo is $50 and adding more pieces instantly increases the cost to $100. There aren't any special expensive pieces included. They just make it look fancy with microgreens and orchid petals. The microgreens are yellowing and brown. SALAD AND MISO SOUP ARE INCLUDED. Salad has a bunch of browning bits which is SUPER GROSS (it's your typical salad mix from Costco) but also includes halved grape tomatoes and sliced radishes. The dressing is good but is heavily cream based. Take out included utensils but both were strangely unwrapped (particularly the chopsticks). Furthermore, strange that they provide utensils but no dish tray for the shoyu and wasabi... I guess they assume you'll use the soup container? ***NO WASABI included in the nigiri themselves*** SERVICE is bordering on rude. Literally wanted me to order single nigiri's and was like oh yeah we do have combos and they could not find it on the menu (uuuuhh). Couldn't hear me (it's freezing). Did offer water. AMBIANCE is casual dining but I would not recommend group dining since they charge an instant 20% for more than 6 individuals even if you are not eating. Modern Japanese American decor. Strange how they block off areas. Located in downtown Lodi with multiple street parking that is free for 90 minutes every day from 9am to 5pm except for Sundays and holidays. 20% tip for parties greater than 6 (even if not everyone is dining). 3.84% extra charge if you use a credit card... hashtag major lame. Website is fairly accurate regarding pricing and policies. Need I say more? Not coming back in a million years.
M Sushi never fails to be the yummiest sushi restaurant ever! We usually get the To Die for, Hudson Delight, and Smokey Peyton! The service was very quick and the vibes alone are amazing. Will definitely go back!
Foodie Find: M. Sushi Bistro - Lodi, CA Stopped in at M. Sushi Bistro, a hidden sushi gem in Lodi, California, and I'm still thinking about it! I ordered my food to go after a long ride from Southern California. The decor was nice and red and a lot of natural lighting. The customer service was great and you could view your food being made right in front of you with a beautiful open kitchen concept. It was very business but this did not stop them from taking your time with you. I had their M Speciality Roll, and wow, the flavors were perfectly balanced! It's made with spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber, topped with seared salmon, crispy onions, green onions, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. Every bite was rich, layered, and absolutely delicious. I also tried their halibut and albacore nigiri, and both were incredibly tender, buttery, and packed with flavor. So fresh, they practically melted in my mouth. Only regret? That they're not in Southern California, where I'm from! If you ever find yourself near Lodi, make M. Sushi Bistro a must stop. Your taste buds will thank you.
Hey there Party People The restaurant is in a great location with easy parking. The decor is simple and very cozy. We had a large group of eight sometimes that can present a challenge with the arrival of the food. The wait staff did a fantastic job of pacing the food do we went seamlessly from appetizers to entrees. It was a wonderful day with family celebrating and the food just added to the joy. Weather you get sushi or noodles or a bento box of teriyaki or some fabulous veggie dish you will be wanting more. If you are in the area and you don't stop here then you have missed a little slice of heaven on earth. If you don't like fish they still have you covered with great options, I should know....i hate fish Be kind to one another
Very good sushi and bento boxes here. The servers are very professional and gave us as much time and information as we needed to make our order, it was very appreciated. The ambiance is very calming and welcoming. It was also very clean there. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in Lodi.
If you want QUALITYYYYY SUSHI and exquisite experience gotta make it here and order about everything and anything on the menu if not ask M for recommendations he's amazing along with his wife!! The best duo ever
Food was fresh and yummy. My husband really enjoyed his sushi rolls and my Bento box was yummy. Highly recommend for good sushi and a nice vibe.

We stopped by M Sushi Bistro based off of a quick Yelp search while wanting to stop in Lodi for dinner. Their reviews were great and the sushi looked yummy, so we went for it! We arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday and it was busy, but they sat us at a table right away. (It was cold- bring a jacket! I would prefer that than feeling hot/stuffy on a busy night though!) As we looked over the menu we could see the counter where all of the sushi was coming out of before it went to the table so we knew we had made a good decision in coming here, haha. We ordered two different rolls (I can't remembered the names!) and they were both so yummy. Perfectly cooked, fish was fresh, and they came out SO FAST! I swear we ordered, 5 minutes passed, and we had our rolls. Super fast and attentive service. If this place was in the town we lived in, we'd be regular patrons! Will definitely be back again if ever in the area for dinner. They killed it! read more

M sushi bistro made 4 beautiful sushi platters for my husband's 40th birthday party. The platters were beautifully put together and all of the rolls were fresh and delicious. Sashimi was so fresh and good. Did not have that after fishy taste or smell, which both my husband and I liked. It just melts in your mouth. Sushi wasn't bad either. We would definitely be returning again for another day date. Service was excellent! read more

It's been at least 18 months since I last had sushi (well, what passes for sushi in these united states). So excuse me as I was too busy stuffing my face to keep a mental note to review later. Of the few things that I can still recall, the thin slices of lemon in the "To Die For Roll" were an awesome kick of contrast, the thinly fried flakes of onions on the "Pink Orchid Roll" was a great aromatic addition, the black tobiko on the "Hudson Delight" brought out the taste of the sea, and the hot sauce (not all that hot) was a nice touch to the "Flaming Dragon Roll". I love shrimp tempura so that made many of the rolls even that much better. The nigiris were great. The drizzle of sesame oil on the Shiro Maguro was a great touch. The cut across the grain might have given a first impression of a less than prime slice; however it was anything but! After all was admired and devoured, it was an all round delicious experience! read more

We visited from SouthCal with a group of friends. The service was great, we waited about 10 min for a table of 5 even though they say it would be 30 min. We ordered several rolls (pink orchid, Snow White, rainbow), spicy garlic edamame (with no butter), seaweed salad, oyster shooters and sake. If you are someone that loves raw fish on top of raw fish with a little spice go for the pink orchid, it was delicious. We had a great time! I totally recommend this place. The only comment I would make is that the table was sticky. read more
Mother's Day Lunch [Lodi CA] This was where we ended up with no specific plans for Mother's Day. We did not regret it... we caravan'd with two vehicles, party of 8 and drove an hour to Lodi. With the holiday and with how popular this restaurant is we knew there would be some wait time... aaaaand they don't take reservations!! Yah, good luck! We chanced it anyway and drove to the location... one car drove ahead and got there to place our name on the waitlist. When the second car arrived it was just in time for us to be seated. Now that's how you do it. Everything we ordered was delicious! Food was excellent and sushi was fresh! We ordered from their appetizers, sushi and their bento boxes: APPETIZERS: Gyoza Agedashi Tofu BENTO BOX: Beef Teriyaki w/ tempura bento box Salmon teriyaki w/ tempura bento box Chicken teriyaki w/ tempura bento box SUSHI: All In One Smokey Peyton To Die For Hudson Delight Sake Kama DESSERT: Deep Fried Cheesecake - Vanilla Deep Fried Cheesecake - Raspberry Chip That cheesecake was bomb! Had to place two orders for it. The restaurant was BUSY but it didn't take away anything from their attentiveness and great service to our table... friendly, fast and efficient. This place definitely gets busy. Although the service was very slow, everyone was friendly and helped each other. The food was fresh and nicely put together. I thought the tempura batter was a bit dense, hard, and sort of bland but still edible. I also didn't care for the dressing they use for the salad because it's too sweet. I loved the chirashi and enjoyed the touch of chili oil in it. Outside of the restaurant is a bit unassuming so I missed it when I drove by. Inside seemed small but I'm not really sure because I was seated right in the front by the waiting area. read more

Spicy edamame to start. So yummy and just enough spice to enjoy and eat it all myself! Miso soup came out my Lunch meal. I don't normally like the flavor of miso soup. But with enough shoyu (soy sauce) it was good.Service is always on point. I ordered the vegetable delight roll. My absolute favorite roll here! If you don't like fish or are vegetarian this is the roll to have. It is so delicious and the flavors are just perfect. I also ordered the lunch teriyaki chicken bento with tempura. My only complaint here is they don't serve chicken breast. Now normally this would keep me from coming back and I wouldn't order any chicken meals here. BUT I tried the teriyaki chicken here and asked them to cook extra well. I can tolerate it. The flavor is good and it's cool done like I like it. Lunch bud ordered hudson delight his absolute favorite a must try and have for any sushi eater. Also got the Smokey Peyton. Inside is always clean and they are quick to clear table. It's cozy inside. Everything was delicious. Wish I had room for dessert. Next time I'm going to order dessert first here and only get veggie roll. read more

When coming up to the restaurant, it seems like it's closed but it has like an almost hidden door to the right. When we entered, I was pleasantly surprised to see a nice trendy restaurant. We were seated immediately and the server was very attentive. The rolls were pretty good and fresh. The udon noodles were tasty however, the chicken was dry. We both thought that the chicken may have been pre-cooked and was reheated with the noodles. We also felt the chicken was way too salty. I would recommend ordering the noodles without the chicken. Other than that, overall we had a good experience. read more

It was my first time trying sushi at this location and I was glad this popped up when searching in DT Lodi. We ordered ahead and for our items it was ~30 mins. Express parking right in front for pick up and it's quick from when you pay in store to get all your items. They were exact with the timing and we didn't need to wait additional time once we came. | WHAT WE GOT | + Grilled Yellowtail + Dragon Roll + 15 Piece Sashimi + Pan Fried Seafood Udon ***With the items they also packaged some miso soup and side salad (can't remember if it was included with one of the entrees above) Similar to the other reviews the dragon roll and pan fried seafood udon were the favorites! Super filling, nice flavor, and easy to share. I would probably pass on the yellowtail next time since it wasn't as easy to eat/share, but it came with a nice ponzu sauce that complimented the grilled fish well. I was surprised with the 15 piece sashimi as well since the fish was nice quality and it came with seaweed salad and sides. However, I didn't like that the sauce and ingredients weren't in containers or in a separate area in the to go container as the juices seeped into the fish and created a layer at the bottom of the to-go container. Overall, solid menu with a nice variety for noodles, apps, sides, and speciality rolls. Prices are decent for the quality but the items above ran us ~$90 which we did share with a group. Ordering is easy and they are true to their estimates for pick up. read more

Good food but service is a question mark. Went in to have dinner with the family and we were seated instantly, no one there but another family. Here is where it gets weird. The server brought our plates, water (never asked what we wanted to drink) and utensil but never came back to give us our menu. The server never said a word to us while he was getting our table ready, which is weird now that I think about it. He left and started cleaning the walls etc, but still no menu. After waiting for close to 10 minutes we finally decide to ask for our menu, and the response we got was, there is a QR code to scan to see the menu, but no one mentioned it to us while we were just sitting there. Overall food was delicious so we might just order out next time instead of dining in. read more

This is a nice Japanese bistro in downtown Lodi. We were greeted warmly when we went inside. They have a digital menu but have physical menu if requested. Unfortunately, the physical copies were a bit crumpled and stained, not really fitting for a nice bistro like this one. It's slightly noisy due to the background music. I went with my auntie. She loves their grilled hamachi collar. We both had the lunch bento special. We both had salmon shioyaki. It was okay, a little dry. My auntie had tempura; she liked it. I had sashimi; they gave me a slice of 5 different fish. They were very nice. The server checked up on us often and was very nice. We were sent off with a warm goodbye. read more

So glad this place offers outdoor seating. And since the weather is getting a lot colder they even have heat lamps set up around the dining area to keep everyone as warm as possible. Our servers were very attentive and continuously checked up on us to make sure we we got everything/needed anything else. I can't remember the names of the rolls we got but both were yummy. I'm sure you can't go wrong with almost anything on their menu. We started with the spicy edamame, which was nice and flavorful but not in the least bit spicy, so that was a little upsetting. And we also got the m rib appetizer. And for $10, you get two small ribs. The price is a little steep and has that peking flavor. So it wasn't quite my cup of tea either. I did however enjoy their pan fried udon with chicken. It was creamy, flavorful, and had nice chunks of chicken. I wish the serving was a little bigger. But all in all a decent place for good eats. read more
This is a nice place to eat some fancy looking sushi. All of the rolls we had ordered were good. The To Die For roll had a nice flavor to it because of the apple and it had a kick of spiciness to it. They are definitely generous when it comes to the sauces on the rolls (they kind of started tasting the same after a while), but I think the crowd favorite was the fried seafood udon. Hello to my new favorite sushi place! How do I find words to describe how much I enjoy this gem? M Sushi Bistro is seriously hidden in such an open area. I'm super glad I've gotten to try the sushi and food here. Food is really good! I ordered the inferno roll and added cream cheese. My was this good, from texture to taste. The sushi rice was not too hard not too soft, just perfect. The size of the rolls match the price as and the sauces on there do it justice. The Smokey Peyton was also mind blowing . My boyfriend got the Lone Tiger, which didn't have much in or on it and still came out really good. I am no sushi connoisseur but if a roll doesn't need much of anything and still comes out good, I find the restaurant to have good quality sushi. The side salad here is to die for with their creamy sesame dressing and spring mix with grape tomatoes. Writing this review has gotten me mesmerizing. Sashimi was very fresh and melted in my mouth, I loved that they put kizami on the platter. Service: first visit was not as busy on a Sunday afternoon but lacked service from our waitress. She forgot my wine order and hadn't checked up as much to. We had to flag her down a few times. I liked their sushi so much I decided to give them another try despite my previous experience. Second visit was very busy on a Saturday night, got a different waitress this time and she was extremely helpful. Always tip top and had great energy, definitely made up for my last visit. read more

unfortunately they do not, its a quaility over quantity mindset. never eat sushi at a gas station or buffet.
