This place drew my attention because of the ambiance in the pictures I saw. When I came here I smelled the wonderful aromas immediately. I saw the option of doing their tasting menu and that was absolutely what I chose. It was soooooooo delicious. I was so pleasantly surprised. I've had Indian food but never Pakistani and it's similar but idk I kind of like it more? It felt more flavorful? Unless it was just that this place was that good!! The food came out fast also!! I recommend to everyone who is in the area!! 10/10!!

We had the tasting menu and it was extremely affordable and a ton of food. I love trying all the different flavors and it was nice to go somewhere pretty unique for Charleston. The service was really great and each course was timed out perfectly. Its definitely worth checking out!

I didn't have any food here. I'm sure it's great, though I'm very picky about my Indian/Pakistani food and the menu didn't exactly call to me. Would try if I am in Charleston again, though dishes seem very palm colored people coded. Menu items include: biryani, butter chicken, chicken tikka, chapli kabab, and some chutneys. I mainly had drinks here while conducting business. I had: Karachi wala: vodka, masla chai, amaro, cardamom, orange blossom. Basically tastes like chai. Kashmiri 76: Vodka, blood orange, citrus, cava, pom. Light, refreshing. Easy. Party in Lahore: tropical gin, grapefruit, mango, citrus. Not bad. I can't remember much about it, which means, "okay." Mughal sunrise: reposado, orange, aperol, salt. Tangy, citrusy. The bartender kept my drinks flowing, but wasn't on top of me or hovering. Everyone was really laid back. Near a local improv club so maybe make a night of it?

the place had such a cool vibe to it. we went during the day but it would be so cool to go at night too. i'm pretty sure it turns into a night club or something at night. the service was great! the food was so flavorful, i really enjoyed it. the only thing is that i wish the chicken tikka had the masala sauce, it didn't. it was so delicious though!

The overall vibe here was relaxing and comforting. Eating the warm pita with yummy butter chicken on a chilly night made my heart happy! I indulged in the fried zucchini starter and a whiskey/tea cocktail as well. The bartender, Dustin, was lovely and provided excellent conversation and recommendations.

Definitely on the more expensive side, but I was really impressed by all of their dishes. I went with the chefs tasting, which was around $70 a person and everyone at the table must also choose the tasting.

I've been meaning to try it here for a while and really glad I did! I have the chef's tasting platter where it's three courses of food, and that was a great way to try a bit of about half the menu. Everything was really good! I am convinced most Indian places are just reheating food that they all get from the same place, due to the consistency plate to plate and how each place has the exact same menu that tastes exactly the same. Ma'am Saab is clearly making it all in-house and tastes very unique and I loved it. Great meal that justified the high price. Service was friendly, though I think they could have done with one more server in there once it started to fill up. Inside was swanky and chic. Will 100% return for great Indian and Pakistani food! Oh. My. Goodness. Everything about this restaurant was incredible. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. I sat at bar and bartender offered to make me a mocktail off the menu to try. The food was incredibly tasty. Had to stop myself from eating just because. The ambiance is dark with fun lighting and makes for a great solo date night or dinner with friends/partners.

Make a reservation, it's worth the trouble. Ma'am Saab is always such an enjoyable time. I have never order anything on their menu I didn't enjoy. Although their cocktails can be a little sweet. It's a beautiful warm cozy environment, perfect for a unique night out.

Absolutely amazing Pakistani restaurant. Finally got to try this place for dinner. The cocktails were delicious. The zucchini fritter appetizer was one of my favorite dishes - so good with a hint of mint in it. I had the cholay biryani and it did not disappoint! Served in a huge pot like a pot pie, with rice and chickpea and potato. It was enough for 2-3 people to eat, I had so much leftover. Service was friendly and the ambiance inside was really cool! Not a big place so reservations are probably best during busy times. Highly recommend!

Had the best time on my first visit to Ma'am Saab. The space is decorated beautifully. Dark, intimate and trendy. We did the chef's tasting and so had quite a lot from the menu. All tasty, surprisingly while I was obsessed with the naan dipped in butter chicken the chicken wings they have here are my perfection standout. I had a great time with new friends and a part of that was the standout service from Jimmy. He has lovely energy and made sure we were taken care of. Wonderful dinner!

We visited Ma'am Saab for the first time Saturday night! We were able to snag a reservation day of for a 6 PM table for 4. Our server was very friendly and offered us expert recommendations for appetizers & main plates to share. We love family style dinners! Truly everything we ordered was exceptional. We ordered the PAKORA CHAAT, QEEMA PAV, TAJ-E-SABZI, CHICKEN TIKKA, the Brisket special & the Chutney sampler with naan. The pakora chaat & the Brisket special were my favorites! Our cocktails were fabulous. Definitely have a new favorite spot in CHS!

Appetizers/shareable- We shared the calamari and French fries. The calamari was good! It came with an aïoli dipping sauce that was delicious. The French fries were comparable to any other restaurant fries. Nothing special. Main entrees- we each had a bite off of each other's entree/shareable to sample. Swordfish sandwich- flavor was there, battering was thin coated and gave off a nice crunch. Ceviche tacos- had a nutty Asian flavor to it. Came in 3 little bite sized taco like chips. Miss Paula grilled shrimp- shrimp in a curry Thai like oil served with 5 toasted baguette slivers. If you're into Thai red curry, I'd recommend this. They advertised the shrimp is locally caught. Oysters- nothing too exciting. Kitchen service- The reason behind the 0/5 for the kitchen service is because they messed up our order so many times. They missed two of our orders and didn't make them until we said something. Instead of getting our side salads we kept getting fries. We got double of things we hadn't ordered. From the moment the first person got served their food, there was a 40 minute gap in between the serving of the last person. Our foods weren't served together so we had some girls having to wait to eat. Even then, our last girl got her food to go because we also had another rsvp to be at. We spent about 3 hours on the rooftop total when they were so adamant on having a reservation. We expected to be here for only an hour so we could spend more time exploring downtown but couldn't do that due to the speed of the kitchen service.

One tip: sit at the bar if you can, the set up is stunning especially for taking photos! The cocktail menu was moderately extensive with two full pages of complex and simple cocktails. Honestly, it was so difficult to choose what drink to get because I wanted to get everything on the menu. The bartenders were so attentive and talented - their implementation of each cocktail was even better than the menu descriptions. Not only were the drinks delicious but also beautifully presented. They have some bar bites as well as quite a few small and large plates, we got the pretzels which to my absolute surprise were so good! You can tell the bartenders know exactly what they're doing. The surprise star of the night, though, was the grilled cheese. Calling it a grilled cheese almost feels unfair because this thing was next-level. Perfectly crisp on the outside, rich and gooey on the inside, and paired with the cocktails so well that we were talking about it long after we left. Sometimes the simplest thing on a menu ends up stealing the show. The atmosphere strikes that perfect Charleston balance of classy, cozy, and effortlessly cool. Great service, great drinks, and one of the most memorable grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever had. If you're in Charleston and appreciate a serious cocktail program, The Gin Joint is a must-visit. We arrived for dinner with our 2-year-old. The tone was set immediately by our server, who was visibly annoyed when I didn't respond to his greeting fast enough because I was tending to my toddler. Rather than reading the situation with any empathy, he sharply said "Hi, miss" in a way that made it clear he expected immediate attention. Not a great start. Things only went downhill from there. My husband had to briefly step away to take a work call, and instead of accommodating the situation in any reasonable way, the server dropped water and bluntly said he'd return "when your husband is back"--effectively refusing to engage with me at all. Trying to make the best of it, I decided to feed my child first. After waiting quite a while with no assistance, I had to flag someone down--who turned out to be the manager. What followed was honestly the most appalling part of the evening. I asked if they could simply warm up my child's food. Not only did she refuse, she told me I could not feed my child in the restaurant. No alternatives offered. No attempt at accommodation. No offer for a kid friendly food item, or no offer to feed her in the hotel lobby. Her "solution" was that I should leave the restaurant and go find some outdoor space nearby to feed my toddler. To make matters worse, she added that "service will start at 6:15 sharp," essentially implying I should figure it out and be back on their timeline. The complete lack of empathy, flexibility, or basic hospitality was astonishing. I have never encountered such dismissive and hostile behavior toward a family with a young child--especially at a supposedly high-end establishment. Mind you we have been to plenty of restaurants including 3 Michelin stars. If you're dining with a child--or frankly, if you expect to be treated with basic respect--I would strongly recommend going elsewhere.
