Didn't care for this place. I wanted to try the meats but they don't have a sampler plate and wouldn't let you order less than 1/2 a pound. I've never been to a bbq place that is table service before, usually you order at the counter and find your own seat. Server was slow and not that friendly, she was nicer to other tables around us. Ended up going for sandwiches, my husband said his smashburger was good. I did the Polish Girl which was a spicy kielbasa with pulled pork and slaw in a hotdog bun - it was actually pretty good, needed more slaw. For the price of the sandwich they should come with a side. Couldn't find out why the building had no windows! Wanted to sit outside but quoted a 30min wait even though there were empty tables. read more

Delicious fatty brisket. The pork belly was 59% tough jerky ans 42% fatty juiciness. The rye bread pieces were stale and yuck. The rye sauerkraut was salty and not sweet and a nice addition to the plates. The fried potatoes were the perfect amount of crispy outside and soft inside. Great food and service! Tried This is Cleveland and the Loaded Fried potatoes. Very generous portions. Even with two of us splitting the dish and side, we got a takeaway box and had enough for the next day's lunch. Gotta admit I would not have ordered This is Cleveland if I had seen a picture. Super cool to have learned this is one of Michael Symon's restaurants! Upon entering, you even see a signed baking sheet that DDD has been here. We came here shortly after they opened and a few people were already there. We decided to enjoy their outdoor patio, so I didn't get to see much of the inside, but from what I can tell, it was huge! We were seated right away and we perused through the menu. It took a minute for our server to approach us. Although she was attentive for the rest of our time there. I ordered myself an Arnold Palmer (because you gotta when you're eating BBQ). The server explained to us that everything is pretty much a la carte and her faves from the menu. My husband eventually ordered the pulled pork with side of hot greens and pierogis, and I ordered the lean brisket with fried potatoes. Our food came pretty quick and wow, shocked by how much food we got. The menu has a touch of Eastern European inspiration and was delighted to see a slice of rye bread instead of traditional rolls or corn bread (I come from the South, lol). The pickles and cabbage pickings were so good and complemented every bite. The lean brisket was tasty but found a bit too dry, so I doused everything in their BBQ sauce - I preferred the tangy one better, while my husband liked the sweeter sauce. The fried potatoes were fried in beef tallow and were just so good and hearty. My favorite though were the pierogis, with the caramelized onion on top. My husband thought the hot greens were okay, but he did enjoy the pulled pork. I think this place is a good restaurant if you enjoy BBQ. Why take a trip to Cleveland? Because I've never been! As a bourbon enthusiast, I was surprised to see such a great selection of bottles in all the bars and restaurants around the city. Mabel's whiskey selection is not just impressive for the city, but perhaps in all of Ohio. I wish I wasn't visiting during dry January, I would have spent much more time there exploring their menu of bottles. Luckily the food is also good. It's an a-la-carte menu so I ordered a plate featuring a half pound of brisket (FYI a half pound is the minimum order quantity, more than enough for a single person.) The brisket was a fatty cut and besides the moisture, it also had the smoke on the nose and palate that is almost reminiscent of Texas but enough to make it stand out from other joints I've tried across the country. The menu leans towards European style so the plates came with sour kraut, pickles, and rye bread. My side of brussels was also topped with a rustic mustard complete with seeds. Good food, and great drink selection, all in a modern, clean, open space. Next time I'm in town I'm returning, and hopefully it won't be during dry January. read more

Every article I read about Cleveland's food scene mentioned going to Mabel's, and then an Uber driver also mentioned it. So, off to lunch we went. They serve very good barbecue. Maybe not on par with the best southern BBQ, but very good. I started with the Brisket-filled Pierogi. Since I was having the ribs as my entree, I thought this a good way to sample the Brisket. The meat was very tender and flavorful, and the Pierogi dough was very good, but could have used more of a crisping. The Spare Ribs (half rack) were perfectly cooked, coming off the bone cleanly without falling off (hopefully, everyone knows that falling off the bone is a sign of overcooking, not quality). The rub was a good balance to the pork flavor without overpowering it, and there was a sweet but subtle glaze. The two sauces on the table were very good, but not needed. The pickles were incredibly good, and the sauerkraut was a good but strange accompaniment. Service was great. We didn't have drinks but there was a nice choice of cocktails and beers. This was some of the best brisket and meat base dishes we have ever had definitely worth the price for the portion. It was in a good location although we did not dine in we would highly recommend and also recommend the experience around fourth Street since it's across the street from the arcade. In our takeout order, they gave us three different sauces and they were phenomenal and made the dishes on a whole new level. We went after a Browns loss. So it was not too busy. An easy 15 minute wait. The food I will say was not the best this time. I had been here before and it was way better. Stopped in here after several hours at the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame and had lunch. When the restaurant theme is "Eat More Meat" and it doesn't disappoint, it's a good thing. Wife and I both had a half pound of marbled brisket that would be right at home in any Texas smokehouse. You can also get a side of brisket chili and it was equally delicious so don't pass it up. It's been several years since I've been back, and the food did not disappoint again this time. The pork belly was yummy, the ribs were tender enough but did not crumble off the bone (just perfect!), and the loaded potatoes had plenty of brisket! The pork cracklin' had a bit of a kick, but the sour cream and chive dip on the side was the perfect foil for it. Our servers were attentive and food arrived very quickly in spite of it being busy. No reservations here so be prepared to wait. We went on a Tuesday evening around 7 and waited about 25 min for a table inside (first available would have been quicker!). My only "disappointment" was that I am 0 for 3 in trying their beef rib; they sell out quickly so if you'd like to try it, get there early. I've had Mabel's on my radar for a long time! I was recently in Cleveland for a few days and was able to visit on a Thursday evening. My friend and I arrived around 7 and was told it would be a 10-15 minute wait. No issue except that it was closer to a 25 minute wait. We were seated on the second level. Waiter was very friendly and informative. He let us know different things about the BBQ sauces, made recommendations and that everything was ala carte. I had the fatty brisket with fried potatoes. It was outstanding. BBQ sauce was average. My friend had the ribs which looked very meaty/tender. Restaurant is in a great location in the thick of Cleveland by the ballpark and arena. This was our first trip to Cleveland and Mabel's was on our "must try" list. We went on a Wednesday night and had no trouble getting a table. I would imagine weekends or summer events would make that much more difficult so plan accordingly. The restaurant is in a cool little section with other bars and restaurants. There is a live music scene that I would imagine comes alive in warmer months. The food was good. Maybe a little over hyped. Being associated with an Iron Chef usually falls into one of two categories. Elite product or name recognition. I would say Mable's skews a little more to the latter. It was good BBQ, but not amazing. I like that they make their own sauces. The coleslaw was interesting, sweeter and with cilantro. We have replicated it since. We tried the pig ears. Maybe a bit of an acquired texture, but I don't see them on menus often, so we wanted to try them. Terrific Bourbon menu with lots of choices. I liked the flights and ability to try boutique varieties. Pork belly and brisket were good choices. I probably had somewhat inflated expectations and that may have been unfair. Went here for dinner when we were in town for a concert. We got a table inside so we could enjoy the AC. We started with the brisket pierogis. They were really gummy and bland. We doused them in the ACV sauce to make them taste better. I ordered the smoked turkey plate and my hubby ordered the polish girl. My smoked turkey was so dry it was hard to swallow. The mediterra rye bread was dry and stale to the touch, so yeah that was too dry to eat too! The kraut had an overwhelming pungent garlic flavor. It was disgusting! I tried to make the turkey edible by dousing it in the ACV sauce, but it was still dry AF. We ended up bringing it up to our server, and he kindly took it off our bill. He asked if I wanted something different, and I declined. My hubby's polish girl sandwich wasn't good either. He had me taste a bite of the sausage, and the texture was mealy and dry. It was gross. He also had me taste the pulled pork that was on it, and while it was dry, it definitely had the best flavor of the meats we tried during our visit. I was scouring Yelp for a local spot to grab lunch at while in town. I was initially going to go to the aquarium first then eat, but my stomach said otherwise, so I came here first. I found my way and it's in a cute little alley with other restaurants and a few music venues. I was seated immediately since it was lunch time on a Friday which was good since I was so hungry. I got the menu and decided on the brisket sandwich. It's been a while since I've eaten at a Michael Symon restaurant so I forgot his menus are ala carte. I didn't get a side since nothing really appealed to me and from my understanding the portions are quite large here. Eventually my sandwich came out and it was huge! They only offered two types of BBQ sauce. One was a mustard based sauce and the other was a ketchup based sauce that I went with. It had a nice flavor to it. the brisket was good, and I really enjoyed my time here. I will say, the alcohol menu is fantastic and huge! It was to early in the day for me to start drinking, so I had to pass since I had lots to do and it was only noon. Overall I liked my time here and even though parkings a pain, go check it out.
