I was very hungry looking for something tasty and beer - this place hit the spot! If you're looking for it, walk down the alley off high street. Very welcoming inside - I had a great basket of fish & chips, the guy sitting next to me had some killer looking chicken wings, I know what I'll get next time! Serving size and promptness were great. The fish looked like some frozen bought bar food, but definitely tasted like fresh! I was craving fried fish and it definitely hit the spot. this is a great dive bar with unbelievable wings and burgers. I made the mistake of getting a salad. This restaurant was fantastic! The staff and the food were great. The staff as a whole, was extremely accommodating. The food, was well made and fresh. My burgers and fries were both steaming when they were served. Burgers are done to order and there are several choices for sides. The menu as a whole is very flexible (so are burger sauces/condiments). I have never felt so cared for by a burger joint. Tried this because of the 4 star rating + being known for their wings. Seriously underwhelmed. Positives: decent sized bleu cheese for dipping. I am so happy this review is such a positive one. I haven't been to Mac & Joe's since 1995, and I liked it very much then. Coming back twenty (some odd) years later it is as good as I remember. In fact, it looks just like it did back then. It's a lovely wood and brass looking saloon with solid bar food. I had the wings and they were great. Crispy, hot, good sauce and a big wing. My wife had the (self proclaimed World Famous) turkey gobbler and it too was very good. Served on a great roll, we finished it quickly. They prepared a gluten free chicken breast upon request for our daughter w celiacs disease, and my other daughter had the mac and cheese bites. Waaaay better than most places that serve this app, this was legit mac and cheese that was fried perfectly and served w a tangy/mildly spicy sauce that was out of this world. I would put that sauce on anything. The ambience was still one of college town watering hole/hangover cure spot, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Nice Oxford establishment, low key and off the beaten trail. Boasts being one of the oldest restaurants & saloon in Oxford. The Miami Tradition sandwich has been served there "since 1965" and is definitely worth a try. Great place to grab a meal with some friends, take your parents on a bar crawl or hang out with visiting alums who use to go there all the time. Great non-chain place to watch the Miami Hockey games and have a beer. I don't usually go there to drink and socialize but when I have the atmosphere has been nice and different from most Oxford bars. Upstairs is a little more bright and inviting, while the down stairs feels a little cold probably because of the brick walls and low lighting. Ahhh where to begin. I went to Miami for undergrad and enjoyed the atmosphere and burgers at this hidden gem. It is a classic college burger bar. They have other food but everyone knows you go to Mac n joes for the burgers, cheese bites, and beer. My daughter now goes to Miami and LOVES this place. She treats herself to a nice juicy burger every now and then and it's right across from Cjs which is prime location for a great night out. The best thing to get is a starter of Mac n cheese bites and a nice classic burger. Went to eatery today while on a visit to Oxford. It was recommended by a couple frat bros. One of the best burgers I've had in a while which was cooked perfectly to my request of medium (pink inside). Added crispy bacon & tots, which were properly cooked. How I did not know this place was there while I attended MU more than a few decades ago, I'll never know. It's apparently been there since 1946. An Oxford, Ohio icon! This bar is my FAVORITE in town! Now let me warn you this is a dive bar that's in an alley but once you get passed that you'll enjoy the experience. Less is more and you get that with Mac and Joe's! It isn't hat big and there isn't much of an ambiance but that's what makes it great. They instead focus on food and drinks! Their beer prices are sooo cheap and they always have specials going on. As well their food is soooo good. My favorites are the guacamole bacon burger and salad. I met a group here for dinner/drinks for a friend's birthday. I liked that the week of Thanksgiving, we could be there around 9pm and have a huge long table right in the middle of the bar WITH table service. I didn't eat, but apparently their fried macaroni balls are really popular because I think we had a total of 3 orders of them. A couple friends also had real dinner of burgers or chicken strips and it was a lot of food for a decent price. For a beer and food with a large portion of fries, most people paid around $12. Plus everyone seemed to enjoy their food which is always nice in a bar atmosphere. They also serve 32oz "tubs" of beer in addition to pints, which is pretty cool with me, and a nice touch to a college town bar. read more

Came here twice during the Thanksgiving holiday - great beers on tap and good pub food. I'm a Miami grad and don't get back to campus as much as I'd like, so it makes me wonder what it's like when all the students are back! It was very low-key, good music, and also a nice spot to watch to OSU game. Very impressed they had Great Lakes Christmas Ale on tap (currently living in CLE). This is my favorite place to go in Oxford. I usually get the smokehouse burger and Mac n cheese bites. They have really good deals on Wednesday and Thursday's with $7 pitchers (you can get a pitcher of shock top which is good). I highly recommend this place and would say it is a must when you visit Oxford. Reasonably priced and they give you ALOT of food! I am always stuffed after the burger and their salads are some of the biggest I've seen. Their bbq and siracha sauce that comes with the Mac n cheese bites are on point. I love mac n joes! read more
