This mall used to have more life. I'm guessing the pandemic has affected lots of businesses. There are still a few interesting anchor stores. Macy's and Nordstrom are still there. Nordstrom Rack is across the street. So is metro. Parking used to be free or only $1 at the Harris Teeter parking meters. Now everyone is charging more for parking. The eatery is just okay. Taco Bell is gone. The obnoxious sales people selling expensive creams are still there. Costco and Marshalls are also across the street. read more

I trooped it out to the Pentagon Centre mall to grab a few things before flying out. The person working at the MAC counter inside the Macy's seemed to not acknowledge me, while I stood there looking at concealers. He saw me & made eye contact with me, but did not speak. A lady came over, told me there's a MAC store upstairs, so I hauled ass upstairs and got to the store at 7:52pm, they had the doors closed, I tried both doors, the staff stood there and looked at me and did not move. I don't think I will be patronizing MAC anymore, this was the epitome of poor customer service. read more

During COVID it's been very challenging to find a makeup artist who is willing to work with clients or very limited availability. As a last result for an event I had coming up, I turned to MAC. I could not do traditional application but they offered virtual sessions which I was very pleased with. My artist name was Azeez and was absolutely wonderful! My make-up was great! The customer service in store was also great! I have no complaints. This is the free standing MAC store in Pentagon City. read more

This is a cute little boutique MAC store. Really your experience will be based upon your needs and the Artist you just happen to vibe with. For me it's been a hit or miss. I'm not a huge fan of Mac make up. I know some people swear by Mac but maybe it's just my skin type or my complexion. I came in for a concealer and foundation. The artist working mismatched me on both. To be fair I do have an odd skin type and coloring. Usually for me products have to be specially blended. However one artist did do a superb job and matching a discontinued lip color for me. If you're just looking for a quick make up tips or a nice makeover check this place out. I have been a faithful MAC Studio Fix user for over a decade. I love the product...powder and foundation in one with a powder feel. It's quick, easy, and goofproof. However, for as much as I love the product, I HATE the stores and their (lack of) customer service. Every time I walk into an actual MAC makeup store (not a counter in the dept. stores) it is complete and utter chaos. Today they did not disappoint. I walked in and there were about 40+ people jammed into the small store. I (being the faithful MAC user that I am) was there to recycle my 6 empty compacts and redeem them for a free lipstick. Sounds easy enough. NOT. Getting an employee's attention is nearly impossible. While half are giving makeovers, the other half are crammed behind the counter each ringing up the person that they helped on the sales floor. Here's a novel idea...some employees help people on the floor, while the others man the cash register. After being ignored for a good 10 minutes, I could feel my blood pressure rising. Rather than fight the madness in the store, I decided to take my unhappy ass down to Macy's instead. I was in and out of Macy's in 5 minutes flat. read more

Recently walked in with my little "brownie", A. , and her fiancee, J. Of course, it was mobbed with people who thought this lovely make up could better their chances in life, and their kids, sticking their grubby fingers in pots of eye shadows and glosses, rendering them untestable by other human life forms. One star off for letting kids in the store. A. goes to find a new, suitable shade of lip color, and a lady appears in no time to help her out. J. and I, terrorized by the crowds, cower in a corner and have the following conversation: J.: The lady helping A. was or is now a man. It's obvious. Me: Who better to know about make-up? And what is this with wearing all black as their "uniform" when the sales ladies and gentlemen are bound to get gold and green glittery whatnot all over themselves by the end of the day? As for me, I got a little holiday surprise....I spied a glittery blue eyeliner and swore "when I have money, I'll get it". We all know holidays make you broke as hell. A. walks out of the store with her goods, and then she fumbles in her bag and pulls out my eyeliner and hands it to me. "Happy holidays, babe!" xoxoxo This is why she's hot. read more

NUNU absolutely MADE my visit OUTSTANDING!!! When I got there, Nunu sat me down and we discussed what I was looking to achieve w/my makeup, then she grabbed the makeup needed for me to accomplish it and we got started. As she applied the makeup, she was also showing me EXACTLY what I needed to do to achieve this look. By the time she was done, my face was flawless, and I purchased a bag full of MAC goodies to take home w/me. I can't wait to go back and expand my makeup collection and soak up the makeup application knowledge that Nunu has to give! This is a SOLID 5 STARS!!! read more

Perhaps it was my fault for going in on a Friday. I stopped in because I was in need of some new eye shadow. I walked in and waited as women dressed head to toe in black rushed about. I knew it was busy, so I just stayed put and waited to be seen. Getting restless, I began to check out the various shadows. I'm aware that MAC started out as theater makeup, but I go for a less garish look. In fact, I'm pretty simple. I was helped by a young woman finally. I told her, "I need an eyeshadow as wearable as my Lorac pewter. I don't enjoy blending colors or anything complicated. It shouldn't take me over 4 minutes to apply all of my makeup." (I timed myself. 4 minutes works.) I have to say this or they'll give me something that looks amazing in the store, but leaves me looking like I got beat up when I try to recreate it at home. So we picked a color. It was great! It was like my pewter, but with a little glitz. They were out of the actual single pot of color, so I was forced to get the compact color, which forced me to get the compact (shrewd move, since I found out the compact was something like an additional $5 once I looked at my receipt, because sales lady sure didn't tell me this). Then, I found another color that looked nice with the first one, so I got that too. Still mourning the loss of my Chanel Glossimer in Force (I hate you for discontinuing colors!), I tried to describe what I was desperately missing to my sales woman. She produced something that worked. It wasn't great, but it worked. And then, of course, I got my requisite liquid eyeliner. This stuff is just AMAZING! I tried to go with cheaper stuff and it was terrible. You get what you pay for. Now here's why MAC gets 2 stars and an eye roll from me: I got up to the register with everything and it all came to $59.33. I remarked that I needed to know what colors looked good on me and how I wanted a makeover. The lady tells me, "You can schedule a makeover. You just have to spend at least $60 at the end of it." Ummmm, I just did that, pretty much. You couldn't have scheduled me then? Luckily, I need some more Studio Fix powder and will want to fill the rest of my compact with eye shadow. The make up is always good. The help I got, not so much. Meh. read more

This MAC should have 5* rating.. their service is great and sure every Mac can be busy but the team and security are always welcoming. Janelle has been my go to for over a year now, that GURL puts me in all the right colors for my skin tones, educated me on make up and brushes, applying etc. she is genuine and makes personal connections and always remembers what I got prior (w/out looking me up on the cpu). She spent 10 minutes one time hunting for a color I was obsessed with, from then on I will go to her over Sephora... she is the brand to me. She just happens to work at Mac opposed to another shop. read more

I needed a makeup remover and asked what was the real difference between the cleansing oil and eye makeup remover. I was told the cleansing oil is to be rubbed on before using a moisturizer *face palm*. That didn't make sense so I went online and looked it up. They sell high quality make up. The staff, when they are not busy, are able to help you find what you are looking for. The prices dictate that you should request help to ensure you get exactly what you want for your money. The make-up wears well and stays on all day- and I'm an active girl so this is really a challenge usually. The make-up also lasts a long time. Because it looks great all day, I never feel a need to reapply. They save your purchases to help you remember which shade you had purchased on your last visit. You can make returns or exchanges, no questions, up to 30 days. That's great if you try the product a few times then determine you do not like it after all. For consultations, you do need to make an appointment. I would call to get an appointment. Generally, you are required to purchase something for this help so double check. read more

I have been to this location many times and each time leave with a bad taste in my mouth. The customer service here is deplorable. The sales people are rude and don't know the product. They are unhelpful and down right rude. On top of their lack of customer service, this location is generally understaffed. I would venture to say that the Pentagon Centre Mall is one of the busiest in America- filled with tourist and traveling middle school groups. I will not be returning to this location. read more

I was a little afraid before I went to buy makeup from the other reviews. So...I decided that I needed to get there when they first open up on a friday morning. I needed some birthday makeup, and since I don't wear makeup normally, I would need extra attention. When I got there, the store had 4 people in it. The girl behind the counter came out to help me as I was standing there looking lost. She even showed me how to put the makeup on and the brushes I would need. $150 later, I was ready to go out on the town. I now love this makeup, and I sometimes do my makeup to practice and then take pictures when I'm just walking around the house. Horrible customer service. I came here the day after Christmas and the store was empty but there were 4 associates all standing at the counter just gossiping. No one even greeted or glanced at me when I walked in. After about 10 minutes of being ignored, one of them finally comes up and asked if I need help. I wanted to get color matched since my complexion was changing and during the whole process the associate was extremely rude, impatient and rushing me. She slathered a disgusting amount of foundation on my face and ignored my questions on which foundations are best for oily/acne prone skin. Came in today to purchase a few things. It was crowded and I really needed help finding an eyebrow pencil. The staff seemed overwhelmed by the number of people, which is understandable. It took about 25 min for me to finally get someone to assist me with my questions, but I will say that the manager was extremely helpful and patient while teaching me a few tricks and making suggestions. As I browsed around I never got a hello, need any help, etc. I did get a "let me get right there" because I seemed to be standing in front of the drawers they needed to get in. When I'm depressed I like to go here, they make me forget my troubles for a while :) The customer service could use some work but based on my experience it wasn't bad. Might had just been on a good day. I love their studio fix and they introduced me to red lipstick. I now don't feel complete unless I have red lips. Wish I could remember her name to tell her thanks. Terrible service. I walked in, looking for a purple lipstick for my upcoming trip to New Orleans Mardi Gras. There were double the amount of employees as customers, so i have no idea why i had to wait for 5 minutes. Employees made eye contact with me and kept going. Didnt stop to say someone would help me shortly, not even to crack a smile. Finally, when someone stopped to speak to me, she wasnt friendly at all. I explained what I was looking for, and all she offered was one lipstick color. She never suggested dazzleglass, no eye shadow colors, lipliner, anything. I even said that I saw a color called Violetta online, and she quickly said that it was discontinued. I said I just saw it on the site that same day, and she didnt try to check it out for me or anything. So I went ahead and purchased the color, just to get out of there and not look like the windowshopper that they clearly took me as. When checking out, I saw a worker with a cute purple, i asked her what it was, and she said it was "up the amp". I asked her to show me, and she looked like i was crazy! i stood over by the lipsticks, looking for her to help me, and she stood there with 2 other girls behind the cash registers staring at me. i finally walked out, feeling like a complete idiot. I went to Sephora, and had a blast. Found and bought the exact color I wanted by Make Up For Ever, and purchased a Sephora Collection pencil in the matching color, as well. I gladly returned the purple lipstick back to the Mac store, 30 minutes after purchasing. Strolled over to Mac at Macy's (my favorite Mac), and ended up purchasing 2 Dazzleglasses in Funtabulous and Date Night (two obvious purple colors), a Ruby Woo for my sister and 2 candy Yum Yum lipsticks before finally leaving the mall. I told them how glad I was for being able to get to know them, because the ladies at the flagship store are rude, they all laughed and said that they know, because they're rude to them too! I believe them! I always have a wonderful time at the Mac inside of Macy's, and thats who I will continue to stick with, The entire staff at the mac store in Pentagon should be fired. There are too many people who need jobs for people to have jobs and act like divas. I should be the diva; Im spending the money, not the other way around. read more

MAC stores and counters are always severely understocked. They are always missing something and are not helpful about finding the product elsewhere. Their excuse tends to be something along the lines of "being the popular kid on the block, we can't keep up", but that just seems like bad business and like they need a new inventory manager. Also, it's pointless to contact their online customer service. They simply provide canned responses and basically have no authority to do anything. I guess they expect their customers to just hop store to store looking for products. The stores also require you to pretty much find a sales rep. The products are in drawers so you cannot simply pick up a product, instead you have to wait in long lines to have a rep dig for it in a drawer or more than likely, in the back room, if they have it at all. If you need more than 2 products, well then that can take a while. MAC is also very particular about where you return or exchange products. If you buy from a counter you cannot return to a store and vice versa. I find MAC's rules to be very restrictive and tedious. Also their foundations are not as great as people seem to think they are. Try Makeup Forever foundation at Sephora as a better alternative. read more

I don't know what the other reviews are talking about...This location is amazing. The knowledge and friendliness of the staff is incredible. I went in with questions and ideas and walked out with a big bag full of great stuff. My last visit was around the holidays and Emily helped me immensely. Her knowledge on skin care and foundation was awesome. She knew exactly what products would work with my skin and skin tone. The whole time she was pulling my products I was getting asked from other artists if I needed help. Definitely would recommend checking this store out. They frequently launch new products and always have fun events to attend. read more

On a hunt to find a great powder for winter, I walked into this MAC store. Immediately, I was approached by a young lady I told her my needs, and she tests a powder on me that didn't fit me. I told her that I wasn't feeling it. What about the other ones? She politely left the powder on the counter and said feel free to look around. *blank stare* I truly needed help, and she left me. Once in a blue moon I experience decent customer service at this location. The times I have been helped, it's been great. However, when I've walked in before and the store is busy the associates have failed to acknowledge me and I'm left wandering the store like a lost puppy and ultimately leaving. Word of advice to the associates: MULTITASK! Yes, it could be busy and you may be helping a customer or two while one is walking in, but don't fail to greet a customer walking in! People like to be acknowledged, especially when going with the intention of spending money. read more

Echoing what previous reviewers have stated, this store has poor service. I'm starting to think that this is a training problem across mac stores in general, because I've received the same invisible treatment at Mac stores in new york. I don't wear a lot of makeup, but have bought mac lipsticks before and came in to find a shade close to my favorite cheap drugstore gloss. They seemed to have more people working the cash register with one person checking out than on the floor. When I asked an employee about two similar lipsticks, she politely answered my question and kept it moving, no time for follow up questions. I feel like I'd have a better experience with self-checkout counters with screens that you can click to answer questions about the products. Or maybe I should stick to shopping online. :-/ The Sephora down from this store is much better service-wise. read more

As a faithful MAC customer I was extremely disappointed in the lack of customer care demonstrated by the employees in this store. I usually purchase online but this time the products I needed weren't available online. So off to the store I go. When I walked in no one bothered to ask if I needed assistance. The store was busy, two or three artists had customers in the chair. I get that they were occupied but I guess the 5 or 6 employees behind the counter were more concerned about other things than a customer needing help. I was about to walk out, assuming my business wasn't wanted, but decided to see just how long it would take before I was acknowledged. Finally, about 10 minutes later, one of them finally noticed me and says, "Have you been helped? I thought you were in line since you were near the registers. (Note, I only moved closer to the register to see if one of the 5 or 6 employees would notice me and help me.) I said, "Oh, you can see me. I thought I was wearing my invisibility cloak." Tip: You don't have to assume whether or not a customer has been helped. Ask the customer. This employee went on to take care of me (hence earning a 2 rating instead of a 1). The overall experience was very disappointing. If only the level of customer service were as good as and congruent with the pricing of the products. Stop taking your customers for granted. read more

This location is wonderful. The staff is helpful and will assist you in anyway possible. Specifically, Jasmine. She walked me and my Mom through the entire store addressing my makeup needs and gave us both makeovers. During makeup application, she explained to us her methodology, suggested products and gave us tips and tricks to do at home to achieve the same look she gave us that day. Jasmine rocks! There seems to be a general view that MAC employees are rude. I'm really not sure where that came from. Every time, despite one busy day during the holidays, I walk into this location I am greeted with smiles, "hey theres'" and a few even remember my name. I always get sat down and treated like royalty. Shannon is the bee's knees! I change my hair color a lot and every time I walk in, no matter how subtle the difference she notices and helps me find a new look. Maybe it's when I go, usually weekdays before 5, that I don't have to deal with a really busy store. However I have visited on a weekend when it was packed with people and I still got great service! One time a guy friend of mine tagged along, he felt out of his element, especially since we were supposed to just pop in and grab a few things. When they sat me down though, they made sure he got a seat too, and had small talk with him while playing with my makeup. He liked that they didn't ignore him, when he left he told me he wouldn't mind go into the store again. :) read more

When I went they were pretty attentive. This one salesperson ask if we needed any help and at first I wasn't really sure what I wanted. She helped suggest different colors and helped me test out whatever I wanted. Not only did she help me but also my family that I was with. I thought the customer service was great.
