I got the basic and it was the definition of mid. I was honestly expecting a lot better, it was just slightly tastier than boxed Mac and cheese. The shells were super small and the add ons were so expensive.

Cheesy goodness and everybody and the flavors are kicking, and I love the garlic and cheesy one called the goddess. Tried this place for the first time and I was really impressed with it and really enjoyed the flavors and what not and they have a large variety so I'm interested in trying the other one especially the pesto. Haven't been to the location, but I'm curious to see what it looks like.

This spot slaps. The mac and cheese is insanely good -- creamy, cheesy, crispy on top, and made with actual love. Jose is the MVP. Friendly, fast, and clearly passionate about the food. He recommended the "Goddess" and it changed my life a little. I'll be dreaming about it every day until I come back.

We have been regulars here for the past year even though it's a 30 min drive from where I live. The quality is excellent and consistent, and the service is great. There are picnic tables for outdoor seating, but the aluminum containers are great at keeping your mac warm if you take it to go. My favorite: Hellapeno with shells, jalapeños, tomatoes, topped with BBQ pulled pork. It's the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. My husband loves the Buffalo with shells and chicken, topped with panko and hot Cheetos. The perfect mix of spicy and spicy. They also have vegan and gluten free options! The portions are huge, so it's enough for two meals.

While the mac is of course is amazing these are hands down the best Brussels I have ever had! I go the honey sriracha but also want to try the aioli one and have a sneaking suspicion they would be great together Huge portions, wish they did like a sampler option for those of use who have a cheese addition and want to try like a few bites of each. Best part is the staff know how to package for to go. I drove 45 min to come here and they knew I would have the long drive home so they made sure they were piping hot. By the time I got home they were the perfect temp! Also make amazing leftovers it we ate the Brussels in like two minutes flat

MAC'D is serving up some decent mac & cheese in Portland! We ordered via GrubHub - super easy process. You can order the base (i.e., "The Pesto", "The Vegan") and add additional items (i.e., chicken, broccoli, hot cheetos topping). We got the Basic and Goddess. Cooked perfectly. Nicely baked. I do like my food heavily seasoned so I added a little more salt. I like that they included utensils, because I often order from places that don't offer utensils and napkins which can be problematic and messy depending on what is ordered. If you opt to pick up your order, there's a small parking lot in the back. The area always looks a bit empty so hopefully we can continue to support the local eateries there!

If you're looking for very cheesy mac and cheese, here's your place. The mac and cheese items I ordered were drenched in cheese so that every bite had the nice cheese pull. The items were the Basic ($12.75) and the Goddess ($12.75), which had the choices of customized ingredients such as: bacon, chicken, corn, peas, roasted mushrooms and broccoli, jalapenos, parmesan shavings, and truffle oils. The mac and cheese are served in aluminum pans, which keep them very hot. They use shredded cheese blends that seem to combine sharp and white cheddar to have the distinct cheese taste. There's also some spice blends mixed into the macaroni to give a tasty flavor instead of bland pasta. This location is located an an area with other fast food storefronts and there is a private parking lot behind the building.

I absolutely love this place. I first had MAC'D at their San Francisco location, and when I moved to Portland and saw they had one here, I was stoked. I've been a few times, for to-go and via DoorDash. Every time I've gotten it's been great except this last time. I always get the goddess with hot Cheetos and green onions. When I opened it this last time, there were no green onions and the noodles were so dry it's like they barely put any cheese/sauce on them. Usually it's completely coated in everything. I've also gotten the pesto one, it was great too! I will still be back because I love this place, but it was very disappointing last time!

This is some seriously good Mac. I will confess that as a parent of a toddler my relationship with Mac and cheese has waned a bit. It's hard to find something that the kid will eat but actually has flavor. My southern go to is too sharp so I actually had kind of given up the hunt. This Mac is just about perfect. I got the meat lovers. My only complaint is the medium of serving. If this was a sit down restaurant I'd get this every time. However as take out it gets a little tricky to eat. The short rib is tender but not really so much so that you can mash it with a fork somewhat uniformly. The pulled pork was amazing and my only regret was not rationing it out so I could have some With every bite. My wife got the goddess and was making all sorts of yum noises. She added mushrooms and peas. Props for the free veggie adds. The kid was a fan of the basic. Cheesy and creamy. Interesting but not too sharp. Did I also mention that if you tried to eat a whole order, unless your agenda included a large amount of napping, you'd be in a bad way. I like it. The Brussels were really good too and survived a trip. Perfect combo with the honey sriracha sauce. I'm sure the fries were good at some time but they didn't make the trip. We'll be back. Hopefully the kid will crave Mac soon.

Does this place have indoor dining?

No, just outdoor covered tables that are shared with the other window restaurants here

Is there flour or starchy thickening agent in the sauce? Wondering if this is keto-friendly or not.

There probably is a thickening agent in the sauce, though I don't know for sure. But I don't think macaroni or pasta in general is keto friendly, but I could be wrong there.

    Any Gluten Free options?

Yes, they have cauliflower instead of noodles.

Omg the cinnamon crumbs are so good, that with the ice cream was really yummy (I'm a simple girl what can I say). The chocolate hardened into a chocolate shell and it was kind of only on the bottom of the cup so that was a little disappointing. The toasted marshmallow didn't add much, but maybe I'm biased bc I don't rlly care for toasted marshmallow ‍ Overall, the entire sundae is mainly a ton of vanilla ice cream. It's a big portion that I shared with someone else. Second time I went, I got the banana pudding sundae which was soooo good. I shared this with my friend and it was plenty. They give a good amount of banana pudding and you can tell it's quality. I saw bananas, the bread/wafer part, and it pairs nicely with the ice cream. Prob my favorite thing from this place. My other friend got the pbo which was also good. They layer oreo and peanut butter pudding so you get it all throughout the sundae which is nice. She also got an everything cookie which has literally everything in it. It was texturally interesting and not too sweet! Overall, good flavors and quality ice cream. The portions are a bit big and I wish they had half or even quarter sizes since these came in huge cups. At a certain point, the vanilla ice cream becomes flavorless bc there's so much of it but the sundaes were still pretty good!

For two people we paid $150 with tip, and that was without desserts and coffee. Things of note from a Friday night summer visit to this place that's been there four years now: High-end presentation. The plating is top level and each thing they place in front of you is like a sculpture or work of art. Nice energy, not at all too loud. They have acoustic tiles on the ceiling and on the concrete floor added a runner that echos the curve of the large bar, which helps. Portion size looked nice and generous from examples of things we saw being brought to tables, such as the salad and focaccia. Best appetizers were fried cauliflower and the asparagus dish w/ the eggs (which would be even better if warm). The one fish entree is the sablefish (ours was underseasoned) that's brought out on thin piece of cedar with edges still slightly charred. It comes with nothing else on the plate so plan accordingly. Just inside the door they have a little snack/pantry curated market of sorts, where you can linger while waiting for seating and can buy things like a cute little bottle of honey for $20 or a colorful crocheted wall hanging basket for $70. Lots of good natural light because of the walls of floor to ceiling windows. Option of ample seating indoors and outdoors because it's a corner location. Cautionary note: We saw and heard a lunatic in hoodie who, at 6pm on a Friday night, walked up to one of the unoccupied outdoor tables and flipped it over, causing the plates and glasses to fly in the air and shattered, landing in shards next to the elderly couple at the next table who jumped up, her understandably in shock and tears. It's been around 7 or 8 years since my last visit but I remember the fried chicken sandwiches coming with two thick, juicy, fried boneless thighs. I found it difficult to eat more than half a sandwich given the size and excess meat. Usually I would end up pulling one thigh out and saving it for later! I decided to visit again on a recent weekend trip to Portland, arriving for an early dinner at around 4:30 PM. It was surprisingly busy, with at least a quarter of the seats taken in the shared seating pool even though it was so early in the day. Luckily there wasn't a line to order and the food came out within 15 minutes. Fried Chicken Sandwich ($13) - Just as how I remembered, this sandwich is still huge with two breaded and fried thighs on a bed of lightly dressed, crunchy cole slaw. It's really tall and doesn't compress well due to the abundant crunchy elements throughout. There's the bun that's heavily toasted until extremely, almost aggressively, crisp and almost dark golden brown, absolutely doused in butter a la Texas toast. There are house pickles on the bottom bun, very quickly pickled such that it develops no acidity, but changes to that crunchy yet soggy pickle texture. The two chicken thighs are expertly breaded until full of crags and valleys, seasoned well, and fried until crisp. The crispy quality is of a lighter variety rather than a hard crunch, very delicate as compared to a typical flour based fried chicken dredge. The chicken is different from what I remembered. Instead of being juicy full thighs, almost an inch thick at the meatiest, these patties are thin, sad, like a single thigh butterflied and cut into fourths width-wise. The breading is far thicker than the chicken itself - in fact the chicken almost is an afterthought here, completely getting lost in all the breading and everything else in the sandwich. Seriously, look at some of the photos from other Yelpers taken in 2016 and 2017 and compare to my cross section photo. It's a huge difference. I bet it's a cost cutting measure and it certainly isn't an appreciated change. Maybe it's just a sign of the times - while the 2010s air waves thumped with 'All About That Bass," the thick thighs have now unfortunately been 2020s Ozempic zapped. The major downside of the sandwich is surprisingly the bun. It's by far the most dominant component of the sandwich. It's the crunchiest element and the butter flavor completely overwhelms the taste buds. This is why fried chicken sandwiches are usually served on soft and pillowy buns, or at least buns that are only lightly toasted, so the bread can focus on and cradle the crunch element rather than supersede it. This is the first time that I can recall a sandwich where the bun is the dominant entity. (3/5) Dandan Fries ($10) - These fries are deceptively filling. They're really snackable and give a distinct moreish quality. It's like a snack where I absentmindedly keep reaching in the bag for more and suddenly it's completely empty. The fries combine a somewhat lightly fried potato, a delicate crisp on the outside and an extremely fluffy almost fall-apart tender inside, with a nutty, spicy, and mouth tingly mala sauce. The sauce is thick, rich, filled with fatty goodness. It's actually a really good glue, adhering the crushed peanuts on the fries so well, nothing falls off while lifting the fries out of the bowl. I especially love the mini cornichons mixed into the fries. They add just a bit of sweetness and acidity that balances so well with the fatty dandan inspired sauce. Without them, I think the dish would feel far too rich. With them, the fries go down the gullet at a quick rate. (5/5) I can't help but feel a little disappointed at Basilisk. It's another one of those places that seems to have decided to sacrifice quality in order to keep prices relatively low. While I enjoyed the Dandan Fries, I'm not sure that's enough of a draw to get me to revisit. Bathrooms - Four unisex rooms shared with the other establishments in the building. We were seated right away, wherever we wanted. I picked a shady indoor spot booth. I'm not sure, if it's the right booth, I then realized, they have the swings, by the window facing Burnside. I wanted to move, but hubby won't! No matter how much I begged, he ain't movin'. Then, I said: 'the music here is too loud.' His answer? 'There's always something!' So I stayed. I checked out the Patio. It might work, for the group. At least, there's one of us, who love alcohol. That may give them a reason to come. (She's driving the rest of the group). Since we are heading to an event, not far from here, we didn't have much time to take leftovers home, we didn't have a cooler, it's almost 80 degrees out, so we decided to eat something we could share. We picked the BBQ COHO Salmon Sandwich. Seared Coho salmon glazed with Bourbon BBQ sauce topped with baby Aragula and pickled red onions on a Portland French toasted potato bun. There's a $2 discount recess during happy hour (3-5pm). We were there at that time. (Is that the reason WHY the music were soo loud?) It was served with hand-cut fries. Both were just the perfect taste (delicious), and size for both of us. But, for some reason, I was still tempted to have something else. We looked at the desert menu, and decided on the Peach Crumble. Food taste so much better, when shared! Enough said. (We waited so long for this one, that we almost didn't made it to our event! We were enjoying our time here, that by the time we got to our car, we were rushing, and made it two minutes later we would have been late!) Negative: Music is too loud! Restroom could be improved.
