Went last week and got the crabby mac and it was great! Perfect portion size, just enough to fill you but not make you too sick to continue shopping in the city. The menu had tons of options and I will definitely be going back to try the other options. I've been following Mac Mart on Instagram for over a year and a half and I can now finally say that I was able to make my dreams into a reality. Yes it's absurd that they can charge 9 dollars for a small *reusable* tupperware filled with noodles and cheese. But are they able to get away with it? Yes. I ordered the jalapeno popper Mac and my sister got the Rittenhouse. I'll start off by saying that the classic Mac base is amazing on its own. A cheesy pile of beautiful noodles. Tbh I didn't order the jalapeno popper dish because I particularly like heat, but because it had the word cream cheese in it and I eat that shit with a spoon on the regular. Cream cheese on top of Mac and cheese? Sold. It wasn't too spicy anyway (I asked for no jalapeno oil, which apparently is where most of the heat comes from). Not once did my nose drip and I did not begin to perspire, which generally happens to me when I eat anything more spicy than a mild buffalo wing. My sister liked hers, which was topped with a garlicy spinach and artichoke dip. I had a few bites of hers and liked mine better. Although the tupperware is small, they do pack a lot of food into it. Regardless, I could have finished the entire thing in one serving. About halfway through I began to feel a little full, which is usually when people decide to stop eating. That's not typically the case for me, I often take it as a challenge to clear my plate. Also i have no self control. However, my sister did and decided to save some of hers for later. I didn't want to, but the idea of watching her eating more later with none for myself, inspired me to follow suit. You may be thinking to yourself "it's just Mac and cheese", but ok really there's no such thing bc all Mac and cheese should be idolized and imo no Mac and cheese is bad Mac and cheese unless you accidently step on it. It started out with a bright pink food trunk on our campus. I remember it was the only macaroni and cheese truck in Philly. Won a lot of awards. And for good reason! The cheese was velvety and had the perfect amount of spice with the jalapeño oil. I am not one to call restaurants to complain, but I was very dissatisfied with my experience today and even more disappointed in the owners response. Furthermore, I ordered Mac Mart twice throughout this quarantine. A couple weeks ago I ordered delivery and I am a regular customer who visits at least 3-4 times per year. Let me just start out by saying the manager DID send me a $9 refund, but I spent $49 (almost 50) on my order. I placed a take out order for (4) GF bowls for my sister and I (to have throughout the week). The issue was that 2 of the bowls were SEVERELY undercooked. The pasta was hard which changed the consistently and taste of both. Since we were dissatisfied, I decided to call and politely just say that 2 of the bowls were less than satisfactory. The order was also cold and I won't even make a big deal about that because I often reheat it bc I can never finish it. I'm not saying this is acceptable, but it is what it is. The fact of the matter was that these (2) bowls were unsalvageable and we had to throw them out ultimately. To my surprise, when I called, the girl manager's response was very defensive and dismissive and she even proceeded to say "Are you looking for me to do something"? She then went on a rant about how all of the pasta was cooked in the same batch and that she didn't understand how 2 were undercooked. Ok so maybe in her defense all of the pasta was cooked together; but it doesn't negate the fact that 2 were unsatisfactory. She then just kept saying "Well I'm not really in a financial position to do anything especially now" , and mentioned something about having only 2 workers. She agreed to just refund me the $9 up charge for the GF pasta despite the fact that I spent $49. I just really didn't think that was fair considering it didn't even account for 25% of the bill, but whatever I guess. Of the 4 bowls, only 2 were edible. I get that times are tough and small businesses are struggling during this time, but hello? If you aren't in a position to provide quality, then please close during this time or at least make it right. The truth is, I don't mind paying for food if the quality is there and I don't often complain, and I even placed a $58 order 3 weeks ago. I'm not someone who seeks a free handout from anyone, but there is no need to try to justify and get defensive as a business owner. Everyone is human and mistakes happen, but at the end of the day I did pay for that order so it is within my rights to alert the store of the issue. So as a result of the managers total lack of accountability and defensiveness, I will not return here. Rather then become defensive on the phone and rant about how GF is cooked differently than regular pasta, maybe just apologize. Like I already know about GF pasta, but I have frequented this place many times in the past and it wasn't like this. The food was good, usually I expect the mac n' cheese to be like..meh, especially after sitting for a long time. Ya know, like when you try and heat up your own and it just tastes...not good? But I even took home my left overs and it tasted fine warmed up. The décor is cold, and very cafeteria-ish. I wouldn't sit here to eat my meal because I don't like the décor. I've passed this place 8 million times because of it's central location and eventually I couldn't think of somewhere to get a quick bite, so I went here. I'd recommend it for take-out, the plastic containers are awesome and I've def reused them for other purposes. There seems to be a number of places opening in Philly lately with smaller offerings of specific food items. A hot dog place, a French fry place is on the way and now there's MacMart. I believe it is the storefront version of a food truck of the same name. I've never had the pleasure of eating at the food truck but was happy with what I got here today. I went before the lunch rush and there were only a few people ahead of me. The shop is clean, the staff nice and my order was finished about a minute after I placed it. In and out. For my first visit I decided on the BBQ in a bowl (chicken, BBQ, cornbread crunch) and added caramelized onions (total cost $12.96 w/soda). It's pretty good. And the portion is such that I couldn't finish it. There is at least a half serving left for later. The bowl they serve it in is specifically re-usable and microwave safe, so I'm definitely encouraged to keep it for later. I will go back to try other variations especially now that the weather is getting more comfort food appropriate. read more

It had bacon, caramelized onions and potato chips mashed into it. If you love salty things you will be into this one. I probably should have started with something more basic, but I have no regrets. You can eat inside or outside, but they have limited seats here, so it is more of a to-go place. They serve everything in a plastic to-go containers, even if you eat there. I used the Ritual app to pick up food from Mac Mart, I heard really good things about it and was excited to try it. I got the jalapeño mac n cheese and it was pretty decent. The bread crumbs on the top were really crispy and added a nice touch of texture. Everything was still warm when I picked it up and the cheese was still very creamy. Using the app I was able to get a discount on the dish, however, I don't think I would order from here if it wasn't for the discount. This restaurant was a hidden gem that I found while walking down the street in Philadelphia visiting from Miami! I ordered the Crabby Mac and added bacon well my girlfriend simply ordered the crabby Mac as listed on the menu. The name described it well it was very crabby and delicious. I however I found that the bacon made it taste less crabby but still very tasty. The macaroni was very cheesy and cooked to perfection. If you like macaroni and cheese or if you'd like cheese this place is for you! You are even able to customize what you want on your own macaroni and cheese. Call dishes come in a adorable reusable container that is perfect for reheating. Usually I hate eating reheated noon from a restaurant but this macaroni and cheese tasted better the second time than it did the first time! It was so much food that you might want to consider Sharing a plate if you are with someone. And if not you'll definitely have enough for lunch the following day. Onions though were pretty gross. My main issue is that the macaroni and cheese base has a plastic-esque taste. Just takes fake and cheap - which is problematic considering it's generally over $10 for a bowl. The portion is generous but still - its pasta and cheese at the end of the day. One positive - virtual high five for being green. While they do give you your order in take away containers (reusable and convenient for left overs!) they hire a company to sort their trash to make sure they are all recycled properly. About 8 chairs for seating. A bit of a sterile-feeling atmosphere. It works well as a quick meal but I still hate myself for eating this. This is not feel-good crappy comfort food. read more
