Sure, this is a big hang out for ASU students, but it's also good for families. Yes, Macados has an extensive menu...sandwiches & "comfort" type food, as well as appetizers. I normally go with the "Titantic", which is similar to your classic "French dip" sandwich. I've never had an issue with the service here; they're all typically ASU students who work here. As the other reviewers stated, there are plenty of TVs to watch all the games / sports & there's a bar area for the drinkers. read more

I wasn't staving at all when we walked in but the first thing that hits you is the aroma of fresh baked cinnamon buns(a strategic ploy perhaps?) the place is cool with the different levels of seating areas that have booths and tables and a separate bar area. We weren't in the mood for a beer yet so I couldn't tell you on the selection. Server was attentive and seemed to be there every time we wanted something. I ordered the bleu cheese burger medium, cooked perfectly. Krystal had the Wild West which had a huge onion ring and my wife got the Reuben large enough she could only eat half. Pretty darn good food! We made the mistake of having two appetizers with our meals. I think we had the Irish Nachos and the Mexican Potato skins which were both really good. The Irish Nachos were a meal within themselves; legit, HUGE portion. The Potato skins came with four or five of them. I had the Titanic sandwich. It was similar to a French Dip. Really delicious. Their pasta salad was pretty good too. Unfortunately, I was way too full to eat it all there after the huge appetizers. Their dipping sauce (sorry, I don't know the crazy french name for it) was delicious. I couldn't even get over how good it was. The decor in the place was pretty cool. You could write or carve a message in the tables or walls of the place. They had a bunch of cool antique stuff as well. Pretty cute place to sit down and have lunch. What I really admired about this place was their large gluten free menu. Even though I am not gluten free, I was really impressed with their large menu accommodating those who are. Service was great--then again, Southern service usually is. :) Really glad we stopped in here for lunch. It was a nice change of pace. read more

Very disappointed! This place was recommended, so we went to try it out. We were seated quickly but sat for 20 minutes with no service or acknowledgement we were even there. We then asked if we could move to the bar and were told yes. However we stood at the bar for a few minutes and the bar tender was trying ti fill a pitcher of beer and walked away as if we were invisible. Considering that the place did not appear to be that busy the service was nonexistent in our case. We walked down the street to the Boone Saloon and was seated and served immediately upon being seated. read more

3 stars because of service. I sat at the bar on a Saturday afternoon. All the bartenders could do is talk about how much time was left until they got off and complain about the kitchen only using one grill. Food took a bit longer than it should and I even had a bartender apologize to me and tell me the kitchen staff was not smart. Everyone was young working. However, beer was cold and burger was good. Fries were cold but don't forget the kitchen staff isn't smart. I would come back here and drink but I don't think I would be back for food. read more

When I was a student at App, this was a great place to go and get food, and the cinnamon rolls were great. I WENT YESTERDAY AND IT WAS TRASH. The food was disappointing, stuff was cold or it had HAIR in it. My cinnamon sensation had a cold cinnamon bun. Also, the hostess was RUDE and our waitress was clueless. I'm super disappointed. We were sat pretty quickly, then ignored completely for 45 minutes until the bartender finally took our order. We have eaten here before and the food was delicious. Today we were greeted with attitude and lots of confusions about how to seat a party of 6. The hostess seemed unhappy and our waitress was even more unpleasant. She was very impatient and snotty when we asked questions about the menu. We felt so uncomfortable that we paid for our drinks and left. Put a major damper on our other wise very happy weekend getaway...this was our final event as a family before heading home. I just got back from Macado's with a group of my friends and we were all very unhappy with our experience. We are all students at Appalachian State and eat at restaurants in Boone frequently. On Monday nights Macado's has bone-in wings for 44 cents each. Tonight was the first time I had ever gotten them and they were the WORST wings I've ever eaten. You would think 44 cents for wings is a good deal, but in reality they were so cheap because no one would want to pay more than that. Other than the lack of food quality our waitress rarely came back to the table to refill our drinks and see if we needed anything else. She also got one of the orders wrong. In the past I have had good food, but the service is rarely up to par. I will not be eating at Macado's again and will not recommend it to others. read more

Not recommended. The food was actually pretty good, although 2 of the 4 orders were incomplete and all the chips/fries were cold. The biggest issue was that the service was horrible. First of all, we waited 35 minutes for our meals after ordering. Once the food arrived, we asked for condiments and water refills - neither ever showed. I eventually took our glasses to the bar for refills. We saw beers sit at the bar for almost 20 minutes before being picked up for delivery by the waiter/waitress. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt due to COVID. However, there were no less than 7 waiters/waitresses working and not many more tables than that to serve. I love the Boomer Burger, but not enough to deal with the lack of service and organization. Not recommended. read more

The meat on my sandwich was visibly green and blue and was suppose to be served hot, but came cold. Honestly scared of getting sick. Took 20 minutes for a couple beers. Great food, but service, not so much. Once we arrived we saw our waitress a handful of times. To take our order, bring drinks, bring food, and then when she brought our checks. The food is absolutely horrible. My husbands sweet potato fries were cold, waiter took them back only to bring the same ones back but burnt. They threw them back in the fryer. That's against health regulations. The bang bang shrimp were decent. I had the Bobagger and to say it was disgusting is an understatement. It was supposed to have banana peppers and mushrooms on it and there was none. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Host were rude. 10 people were in front of us waiting to be seated and after 10 mins went by and no one was seated so I asked the host that was walking by and see implied the kitchen was back up and say they won't seat people because of it. This place has a massive menu, but surprisingly little on the menu is healthy. If you like variations on burgers and fries, you'll like Macado's. They have wraps and similar items. The food tasted good. We arrived about 1pm, and our server was not on her game. Several people arriving after us were served before us, and the bartender helped us out by getting us drinks and refills. I saw another customer trying to figure out who to pay. No wait but no tables available made to feel like my only option was to eat at the bar. Patio was open so it was cold. They were having issues with a refrigerator so food was slow. Food was good but once brought no one even came back to see if we needed anything else. Needed napkins but after sitting there 15 minutes after eating had to flag someone down for napkins, to go box and check. Needless to say service is lacking! read more

We were visiting NC. My friend is a local and took us around Boone for the day. All day she was raving about Macado's (particularly about their famous cinnamon buns) and insisted we come here for lunch. When we got there, it was basically dead and we were seated right away. Reminds me of an old Applebee's before they got renovated. Old wooden booths, quirky decor on the walls, old tube TVs from 1995 playing sports, etc. The main staple of their menu is sandwiches. Lots and lots of sandwiches. They offered a lunch special with a few select sandwiches or tacos from their menu along with fries for just under $7. I ordered the chicken tacos. They also had shrimp tacos as an option, but I'm from the beach in Florida and I know better than to expect good shrimp tacos from a college town in the mountains. Anywho, the tacos had avocado and ranch drizzled on top. They were alright, but not out of this world. Fries were okay, but not too exciting. My BF got a beef sandwich, which I cannot remember the name of it for the life of me, but it was pretty tasty. Definitely better than my tacos. Finally, we split one of the cinnamon buns, since it seemed it would be a sin to leave here without trying one. We got it delivered fresh out of the oven, piping hot and drizzled with lots of ooey gooey delicious sugary icing on top. It really was THAT good. The cinnamon bun was their saving grace here, otherwise I would have given 2 stars. Point is: Go to Macado's for the cinnamon buns after you eat somewhere else first, but don't come here expecting a spectactular meal! read more

Macado's (apparently pronounced "mack-uh-doos") is a fun, quirky restaurant and bar in the downtown district of Boone. It's a great place to grab a bite to eat or enjoy a few drinks with friends. I like going to Mac's when I'm visiting my cousin in Zionville. Good lunch spot after a day of shopping on King Street. Positives: funky movie-memorabilia decor. It's everywhere. Full bar with a good-sized menu of interesting shots and shooters, and you get to keep the shot glasses and pints with their logo! For holidays, they release a special edition pint with cool graphics (for example, one Halloween featured an macabre Alice in Wonderland theme graphic). The food is yummy. Awesome traditional french onion soup, some of the best coleslaw. I like that you can build your own sandwich, as they have tons of bread, protein, veggie, and spread options from which to choose. And of course, their famous cinnamon rolls. They're huge and delicious, and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't try one. Do it! Negatives: a service is often spotty. Also, I've found it to be uncomfortably warm in there at times. read more

So the food here wasnt the issue fine mid grade restraunt id recommend the BBQ plate great cole slaw, it has a nice family atmosphere, as well as being fun for the 20 somethings. My issue was with the young woman who refused to give me a fresh cinnamon roll. This could just be a guess but it seems like the cinnamon rolls are a big deal there alot of people had them and they smelled amazing so I figured oh ill try one, keep in mind I dont usually eat cinnamon rolls their in my bottom choices of sweets but they seemed fairly irresistable, and I try to eat what a place is known for. Anyway these rolls had been out for the duration of my ordering my to go order I assumed to cool. So I asked for it last in my order once I got my food she just picked up one of the wrapped ones and slung it into my bag, I asked if I could have one of the freshly baked ones, she replied they were all baked today and tried to continue handing me the one she much tossed in my bag. To which I said im sure but id prefer one of those, she said nothing she kinda rolled her eyes and took my whole order to the back she came back out moments later more than chipper this time and handed me my order and a warm togo container and said I hope you have a good day. I asuumed she had done the right thing and gotten me a fresh roll maybe one from the back but no I get into my car and its a old cold cinnamon roll with extra hot icing poured over the top. Dirty restaurant and bathrooms... a 90 health score (should have left when i saw this) a. Writing on the walls and tables is so 80's Time for a renovation to this place b. Menus are old and not cleaned very well ...sticky=gross c. Lots of tables that had not been cleared and cleaned and restaurant was not busy 3. Food not bad if you got what you ordered. Wife does not eat pork ordered quesadilla without bacon and was brought back 2 times with bacon. ended up not eating We will find another establishment to patronize in the future when we return. We arrived into Boone and were hungry but didn't want to do a fast food deal. I had been to Macado's back years ago in my high school years and wanted to introduce to my friend. The restaurant goes back quite a ways and we were seated towards the back -- no worries on that. We were handed menu's that were wet with had pieces of lettuce folded into them. To be honest, the menus' looked so disheveled that worn that they looked like they were about to break apart. We ordered the Irish Chips as a started along with 2 beers. It was busy but not packed and our food came and we first had to ask for napkins, then she left. Then waved her down and asked for utensils and then she quickly left. Then we had to wave her down again and ask whether our beers were coming out anytime soon (assuming it had already been about 15 mins since we ordered them). She quickly came with them for us. Upon me about to take a sip, there was a HUGE fly sitting on the side of my glass at the very top of my cider. Why, how or WHAT that fly was doing there but assuming our beers hung out near the bar fro quite a long time, you would have thought someone would have noticed it. I flagged our waitress down again, nicely told her about the bug. She was mortified and apologized and got me a fresh glass quickly. We then both ordered sandwiches and everything else turned out good - the food was hot and fresh (fried mostly) but the people that were around us were just kind of annoying. Loud and obnoxious college kids but what do you expect? The restaurant is located right in the middle of main street in a college town. I was more than a little surprised to see someone call Macado's "the best restaurant in the area." Although it has some good sammy's there are better within walking distance (ODB for starters) but it does have decent prices and a HUGE menu. The atmosphere depends on the day or season. For example: during midsummer, it becomes overcrowded with tourists and sporting events bring a crowd because of all the TVs. St. Patty's is fun with the green beer, but then Halloween, Final 4, end of exams....and any other excuse to celebrate brings in a ton of boisterous frat boys and sloppy drunk barely 21 yr olds. Mostly it's just a good place for either simple items that please everyone or late night food and beer. Nothing super special, but never a complete disappointment, I give it a middle-of-the-road 3 stars. read more
