I guess it depends on your preference. But what we like was the most expensive for a small bottle of white wine. We have been long time wine club members and the last 2 experiences have been less than pleasant. Last quarter we were out East and tried to call the winery and received a recorded message; could not get hold of a live person. We stopped by any way and was met at the entrance and asked if we had reservations; I said no we are wine club members and would like to pick up our wine. The answer was NO turn around here! Last week we tried to make a reservation and was told that not only do we have to pay for a cheese platter per person and for a tasting(for 5 people that over 150.00). The person I spoke too(not a Macari family member) I asked why we can't we buy a large cheese platter for the table and tastings and was told the the rules set by the governor. We know times are tough and although we are trying to support local business during the pandemic being gouged should not be part of the equation. The answer was basically "that's the rule do you want the reservation or not!" To which I said no and cancel my club membership. As 1 reviewer said in a review here - "The wine is fantastic but this vineyard used to be about the experience and the relationships customers had with the family and people who worked the tasting room. Seeing this gone from the experience is sad and disappointing. There is a lot of good wine in the world and it was the customer service that used to make this vineyard stand out. I hope they begin taking the feedback and recognizing there are some things they should not compromise on and being kind and appreciative of their long time customers is one of them." We totally agree with this statement and have enjoyed going to Macari for many years with my family and as wine club member (until last week) when I was tossed aside by a company. As a long time customer we supported the vineyard and the family throughout the years and helped them grow. We have bought and still have over 60 bottles of their wine. This vineyard is one of my favorites. Decor Gorgeous and spacious patio in the back. Plenty of seating outside to enjoy the warm weather. Interior is always clean, well maintained, and roomy. Wines In my opinion they've got solid dessert and red wines. I am not a big fan of whites in general, so I tend to not try those out too much. Service Even when it's packed, which it was on the Friday I was there, I still got pretty fast and friendly service. Cost A flight will run you the same as most other vineyards. Hands down the best on the north fork!! Ive been coming out here all my life. No one makes the juice like they do. Its truly a passion of theirs. The facilities are unbelievable an indoor outdoor covered and uncovered space next to the vines. And a visiting moblie pizza truck that can be found there by the name of avelino pizza is to die for . Real oven custom made from italy. Real ingredients. Some of the best pizza i ever had in the usa. !!! The NEW YORK TIMES just did a whole article on this place one of the best in the country! Definitely a luxurious classy ambiance that can be enjoyed by everyone! The staff are alll amazing . There are other wineries that buy from them too so why not go to the people who get it right. Macari is hands down one of the best vineyards on the North Fork and my personal favorite. I joined the wine club after going there with friends a few times and I am never disappointed with the environment, wine, or service. My boyfriend and I have been served by I believe her name is Kelly, she is super knowledgeable about all of the wines and so nice. My friend and I headed out East for a quick day out East while the children were at school. We came to visit Macari the Tuesday after Columbus Day and were blessed w gorgeous weather. Beautiful scenery. And delicious wine. All and all a beautiful experience. We showed up around 10:36 a.m. and did a tasting first. Then ordered a carafe of our favorite, followed by a cheese platter. I went here with 3 other friends recently. Ambience: it's definitely one of the more popular vineyards, they have a ton of space. I was really turned off by the indoor area that you walk through. The bartender gave us major attitude when we said we were going to share our wine tasting and elected not to get a bottle. He then said we couldn't take our glasses outside to the nice outdoor area with the beautiful view of the vineyard. My thought is if we are giving you $25 for a wine tasting and there was plenty of sitting outdoors, I think we earned the right to sit outside. In terms of the crowd, definitely people in 40s and above, quite stuffy in my opinion, the inside reminded me of going to a Bar Mitzvah. BUT the outside area is absolutely beautiful esp in the summer time. Very large space overall, in fact lots of groups in limos came through - could be your scene or not (wasn't mine...) Wine: excellent, the merlot selection was outstanding, some of the best in the North fork vineyard area in my opinion if you are into full body reds. I definitely can see why this vineyard was rated highly, I loved the wine. But I really detested the stuffy atmosphere and I didn't appreciate the way our bartender treated my group which is why I'm giving it a 3/5. read more

We made reservations for a group to visit Macari for our friend's birthday...when our van arrived we were greeted by an aggressive employee (Nick) who saw my friend slip as he was exiting the van and immediately turned us away. We tried to explain that he genuinely just slipped and we were not sloppy drunk, and Nick was unreasonable and rude, despite telling him we had made reservations. We were forced to turn around and my friend's birthday was ruined by Nick, who lost a lot of business for Macari. read more

I've been to both locations (they're about 3 miles apart) and had a great time each time. Looks like Macari is one of the more popular and famous of the many vineyards in Long island. Awesome place to just have a picnic and relax. Although you're not suppose to bring outside food, I see lots of people with coolers and their own foods in addition to buying wine at the vineyard. The tastings are a nice way to try out some flights, but it's a much better deal to buy a bottle and share with friends. My fave is the Sette! They also sell cheese, charcuterie and crackers to go with the wines. read more

This is by far, my favorite winery on the north fork. The wines are all really delicious, and even the less expensive bottles still have great flavor. Some of my favorites are the rose, dos aguas, and the riesling. The staff does an excellent job of handling the larger crowds that come during the summer/fall season, and I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be served. It's also very nice to go during the quiet season and relax in the back room, while looking out at the beautiful view. I would highly recommend this vineyard to both friends and family. They have an awesome selection of cheeses and meats, which are way better than the offerings I've seen at other nearby vineyards. The staff is super nice and knowledgeable and there is one especially cute employee who is always in good spirits and clearly enjoying his job, I've even heard him sing along to the good tunes playing! Our last stop for the day. 18 bucks for 5 pours, 2 whites, 2 reds, and a dessert wine. Once again, Cab Franc stood out for me. The dessert wine was a bit too sweet even for the wife. I visited the tasting room on Saturday around noon. We were the only ones there tasting at that time, but I could tell they were expecting big crowds by the amount of staff on hand. We were informed that they were the 2014 Winery of the Year, and after tasting their wine, I could see why. They have 3 different flight options, and offer some light comedy as well as wine knowledge as they pour and you taste. We had some trouble picking just one wine bottle to buy, seeing that we enjoyed almost everything we tasted. read more

This is a nice, small vineyard that offers reds and whites by the glass or flights for sampling. The house itself is fairly large, with a private party room, long bar, and about 50 outdoor seats. There is a nice section if the vineyard open to walk through or set up a picnic. Within the house, snacks (chips, crackers, cheeses, cured meats, and chocolates) are available for purchase; however, it's much cheaper to bring your own. Moreover, the wine bottles are also very expensive. The Malbec is fairly spicy and I found that I liked the Merlot better; which is opposite of my usual. read more

Great place! Me and my girlfriend took a drive out this afternoon. Had a tough time finding the entrance at first but once we found it, the place was fantastic. We had a very friendly, knowledgeable bartender who poured us wines from the reasonably-priced "Vintage Flight." I actually ended up buying their awesome red blend, "Dos Aguas," and she bought their 2010 Chardonnay Reserve. We then enjoyed some delicious olive crackers and goat cheese w/ garlic and olive oil. The tasting room is large, which I'm sure is helpful during the summer/fall tasting season. The wines themselves were pretty average. Nothing great, but nothing disappointing either. I did enjoy the '08 merlot as it had more body and was very similar to a cab sauv. read more

Beautiful, beautiful vineyard in the heart of North Fork wine country. We had several tastings, and took home both a bottle of rose, and their insanely amazing 2008 Block E, which was the most delicious dessert wine I've ever tasted. Everyone who worked there was very friendly, the tasting room is very nicely done, and they even have some tables outside, where you can enjoy a bottle and bring your own food to enjoy. read more

For our first trip out to North Fork, our expectations weren't high and this place exceeded them. The reserve chardonnay (oaked) was balanced, refreshing and dry -- none of that over-oaking to mask flaws. I rarely buy wines at east coast wineries, but this one, at $23, was absolutely reasonable. The dessert wine made from three kinds of frozen grapes, also tasty. I advise going for the $12-reserve tasting -- well worth the money. Outdoor patio seating available. read more

This was my first LI wine tour & my friends' first wine tasting experience so I was hoping to make a good impression on them so that it could lead to a bigger interest in wine. Macari Vineyards is the best vineyard in LI. The building is spacious and so is the tasting area. The staff is extremely friendly and they know what they're talking about! All were very well trained. I purchased the 2008 Block E. Unlike other local vineyards, they do not call it an ice wine because this area does not allow the natural production of it as in other parts of the world. There is no false advertisement here as I had seen in other LI vineyards. I will definitely be back. read more

We visited Macari on a weekend in February. The staff was very nice and the wine was delicious. When we got there it was a little bit crowded but people moved over so we had a place to stand at the bar to do the tasting. They offer a variety of food you can purchase in a cooler such as cheese and crackers. We are excited to come back when the weather gets a bit warmer. read more

What is so great about this place? I went with 5 friends and it felt stuffy, awkward and boring. We walked in, there was no staff to ask any questions to, tell us about the wines, there were 4 bartenders doing tastings with a busy Saturday crowd. We waited about 15 minutes for someone to even acknowledge us. We ended up buying a bottle between the five of us, sitting outside, and then leaving. I gave them one extra star because it was clean and the scenery was beautiful. However probably wouldn't go back especially with so many other options in the area! read more

BAIT AND SWITCH If you're thinking about bringing lunch to Macari and enjoying the scenic vineyard, think again. While they tell you on the phone you can do this, in fact, unless you buy lunch from them, along with a bottle of wine, you can only sit out by the parking lot, on some beat up old picnic tables. We bought a bottle of wine from them but they still wouldn't let us sit at the tables overlooking the vineyard. So we ate our lunch by on their tables by the side of the road -- and we will never go back! read more

Arrived just in time as it was semi empty and then got incredibly crowded afterwards. The wine tasting was nice and purchased a bottle for home. The cheese platter was delicious and fig spread was so good I purchased it as well. The ambience is nice and the view stunning. I of course love this place in the summer when you can sit outside, but I bet most vineyards would be that way. It was crowded at the bar so we opted for a bottle and they provided us some insight before we chose. WE then sat in their dining area (long tables and some short tables- great for groups) and drank with some cheese and crackers. There is no music on Sundays which I wish there was something playing besides babies crying (from the shower in their private room) and people talking about their dogs. I will be back in the summer again to sit outside because the views are incredible. read more

This was my second time here and it was a fail once again. First off, tastings on the outdoor terrace was free of charge but glasses or bottles of wine require a service fee of $12. But why? Kind of ridiculous. Tastings range from $12 to $25. Limited outdoor seatings. Wines are my least favorite out of all the Northfork wineries I've been to. Had their cheese board which was ok. Their packaged cheese and crackers for sale are a plus though. read more
