From the moment we walked in, the experience was disappointing. The hostess, who had tattoos on her hands, looked as if she had just stepped out of the shower. First impressions matter, especially in a restaurant, and this was not a professional welcome. Once seated, our waiter seemed to have very little knowledge of the menu. He could not answer basic questions about the ham or provide information about the food. We had to call him three times, and eventually another server came over, but communication was difficult because they spoke very little English. The food was equally disappointing. The prosciutto was sliced incredibly thick--more like a steak than traditional prosciutto. Anyone familiar with Italian cuisine knows that prosciutto should be cut paper-thin. It was clear that the staff did not know how to prepare or serve it properly. Overall, poor service, lack of product knowledge, and improperly prepared food made this a disaster of a dining experience. I would not return. read more

While visiting Miami Beach, I had one goal: eat at least one restaurant recognized by the Michelin Guide. After dinner at Macchialina, I can confidently say I chose wisely. Italian restaurants often talk about simplicity, tradition, and technique. Macchialina backs up those claims with execution. You can certainly order à la carte, but I would strongly encourage first-time visitors to consider the chef's tasting menu. At $75 before wine pairings, it feels almost suspiciously underpriced. By the end of the meal, I wasn't wondering whether it was worth the money. I was wondering how they weren't charging more. The first course arrived as a trio. Creamy polenta with mushrooms, onions, and chives, broccoli rabe topped with toasted breadcrumbs and a soft-boiled egg, and a savory pastry filled with sliced pork and a rich sauce. All three were excellent, but the polenta was the dish that immediately demanded attention. I've had a lot of polenta over the years. Very little of it has approached this texture. It was impossibly smooth, somewhere between polenta and a luxurious puree. Combined with the mushrooms and broth, it delivered a deep, earthy blast of umami that lingered long after the bowl was empty. The second course showcased three pasta dishes. Macchialina's signature cavatelli with veal meatballs, porchetta, and pecorino, agnolotti stuffed with ricotta in brown butter sauce, and a classic cacio e pepe. Choosing a favorite felt unfair. The cavatelli delivered hearty comfort and deeply savory flavors, thanks in large part to the tender veal meatballs. The agnolotti burst with creamy ricotta filling in every bite. The cacio e pepe served as a reminder that great ingredients and proper technique rarely need embellishment. For the third course, a veal Milanese arrived perfectly fried and topped with arugula, concentrated tomatoes, and Parmigiano Reggiano. A grilled lemon accompanied the plate for a final squeeze of brightness. Halfway through the dish, I found myself thinking a touch of balsamic might improve things. Then I caught one of the concentrated tomatoes in a bite and immediately abandoned that thought. The tomatoes provided exactly the acidity and sweetness the dish needed. Nothing more was required. Dessert sealed the deal. Bread pudding made from Sullivan Street brioche, banana, hazelnut crumble, and bitter chocolate. It was paired with vanilla ice cream, and drizzled with caramel sauce. It was rich without becoming heavy, sweet without becoming cloying. The slight bitterness from the chocolate kept everything balanced. It ranks among the best bread puddings I've eaten. Technically, the tasting menu is four courses. In reality, it delivers eight thoughtfully prepared dishes that showcase the kitchen's range, creativity, and restraint. For diners curious about tasting menus but hesitant to jump into a multi-hundred-dollar fine dining experience, Macchialina offers one of the best entry points I've encountered. It feels approachable, generous, and remarkably polished. Some tasting menus leave you impressed. The best ones leave you planning your next visit before you've even paid the check. A intimate italian restaurant that I heard about being one of the best local restaurants in Miami. Though great, I don't think it was the best pasta we've had and we walked out saying it was a solid meal but doesn't have an item that makes us really want to return again and again. The portions are generous (can be shared) and they have a great variety of pastas and sauces. The seafood tasted fresh and there was a generous amount of sauce. Pasta was perfectly cooked. Dinner at Macchialina was one of those experiences that reminds you why simple, well-executed restaurants are often the most memorable. The space feels stylish but completely unpretentious, lively without being loud, and polished without trying too hard. Sitting at the bar turned out to be a great choice (great for couples or solo diners). The food was excellent across the board. The veal Milanese was the standout; perfectly crisp, well-seasoned, and balanced. The insalata tricolore was also a pleasant surprise, a refreshing change from the typical boring restaurant salad. Checked out this place at a recommendation of some friends. It's hidden on the beach and definitely a place I would come back to just for the polenta! You walk in through their outdoor venue, which is full of greenery and a nice ambiance. They lead you to the bar as you wait for your table. Only con about this is the bar was super full, with people sitting there eating dinner as well. It makes it awkward trying to order a drink and putting your glass down once finishing it. You also are awkwardly stuck moving around to allow the waiters to walk by. Once sat, the service is quick and the waitress we had was super knowledgeable and friendly. Out of all the dishes we tried the polenta was the best! It was perfectly creamy and tasty. That was my first time every trying it and I was pleasantly surprised. Traveling for work and spending the week in Miami and my coworkers and I ate here for dinner one night. First, such a lovely ambience! Good for couples as well as friends. We were seated in the back area, the restaurant. Ordered the escarola salad, eggplant pasta, truffle pasta and the branzino. Every dish we tasted was delicious but the standout for me was the salad. The crunch from the pistachios and the light dressing were a perfect complement to each other. I enjoyed the truffle pasta more than the eggplant and the branzino had such an aromatic flavor. We also got the tiramisu and panna cotta for dessert. I have never had a tiramisu that was topped with a sort of cocoa shaved ice. It was interesting and a lovely addition. My review does not reflect on my service. I had a very nice attentive waitress . I adore authentic Italian food sadly I did not find it here. The prosciutto was good although they don't have to cook that. All of the food was woefully under seasoned some of the dishes were also far too oily. As someone who has spent large amounts of time in Italy there are far better choices in Miami Beach. I had the mushroom pasta which lacked the earthy mushroom flavor but was too oily. The shrimp dish with pasta was ok but not a real stand out. The best dish I tried was the branzino sadly the portion was beyond tiny. My other issue is this restaurant uses far too many food runners in place of servers. This can create some confusion and I was in fact served 2 incorrect dishes. My advice is if you are looking for true authentic Italian fine dining look elsewhere read more

I've had Macchialina on my list for quite some time. They had a summer special of 50% off pastas so that was the nudge I needed to visit. They open at 6p on weekdays so to avoid any crowds, that's when we arrived. There were already people there eating inside, although the outdoor patio was empty. I could see it being a bit hot in the summer to eat outside even though they have fans so keep that in mind. We ordered the short rib lasagna and the Cavatelli Macchialina. The lasagna was not what I was expecting and I wouldn't order it again but the Cavatelli was excellent. It had a couple meatballs and the sauce was meaty over a pasta. Very good. We also ordered the burrata salad and a side of puffed bread called Gnocco Fritto which paired well with our meals. I just wish the pasta dish was bigger otherwise it was excellent. I'll try to choose something else instead of the lasagna next time. read more

REWIND! Four years later, Macchialina has been my go to for high-end but casually fun Italian dining whether friends birthday, solo and a date night. I saw their post for this last Wednesday's tasty "Miami Spezia" and we decided to stop by. I called and was able to secure a reservation, and once inside we had a cozy table in their dimly lit space. While enjoying the same classic 2000 hip-hop we might have partied to on the other side of the beach "a few years ago" :) - Jay Z's "Can I get A" for example - we savored a four course "mystery menu" from Macchialina's offerings. Besides one, maybe two bottles of wine (hmmmm) with an appetizer course of a flavorful pecorino salad, yummy porchetta Panini and polenta. Speaking of throwback, this last dish for both of us the guilty pleasure of KFC's mashed potato with gravy from childhood. Though both dishes in the pasta course were delicious (classic pomodoro & a truffle mushroom pasta) we both lean toward classic Red Sauce. Also very delicious was their pork chop. I loved the tangy mildly spicy seasoning. We shared a delicious tiramisu with frozen coffee grounds, very creative and another winner. We had the Tagliolini ai Funghi, Cavatelli Macchialina, and the seafood special, and every dish was delicious. I wish I could give this place TEN stars. Every one should try this place at least once in their life. Their wine selection is impeccable and affordable. I highly recommend ordering the chef's tasting menu. The menu changes every day and is basically everything the chef wants you to try. We started off strong with a the apps which were the creamy polenta, broccolini, and these turkey hot pockets. I could eat that whole polenta as a soup!!! Then the pastas came out. The perfect portion size, we couldn't even finish them. Special shoutout to the cavatelli and Stracciatella ravioli. Just as we're SO FULL ready for dessert. They brought out this incredible branzino dish. It was so good but we were so full we immediately asked them to box it up - I didn't even get a picture! The dessert was phenomenal. I've been a long time Macchialina fan and have slowly stopped coming here as often but will still come sit at the bar once in a while for a drink and a couple of bites or will get take out/delivery when I'm craving their pasta. Their new / bigger space is truly beautiful, the decor is tasteful, the lighting is nice. The music is quite loud and varied and the sound carries loudly when it's packed. For our anniversary, we decided to go back and get a table instead of the bar and get the full experience. My partner made the reservation and selected the occasion. If it was just for my recent anniversary experience I would give it 2 stars, but since it's been a while I review the restaurant, it's only fair I consider those other times at the bar and the take out/delivery as well. I never thought take out/delivery would be a better food experience than sitting at a table. Even the bar beats the table since there's always someone there and it's a more attentive experience. Our dinner reservation was on a Wednesday evening, we waited a few minutes for the host to arrive and she was so cold and rude. Just stared at my partner and said "Hi". Not "sorry for the wait, how are you? How can I help you?" My partner said we have a reservation for dinner. When someone else started taking us to our table, we heard that same host be friendly to the group in back of us. Very odd. We were sat in a really busy table next to two big groups, I asked if it was possible to sit in the emptier area as it was so loud and she said sure but that it might fill up eventually, I said no problem! For the record - it never filled up. We ended up being the only table in that row after the 3 tables left. When we were sat, a few minutes later we ordered water. Our server came a few minutes later. Very informally, just said hi and asked if we were ready for drinks. We were not so he came back a few minutes later and we both ordered the Little Chinato spritz, when we got it they each tasted very different but we just kept them. They were okay, mostly ice unfortunately. I had the gut feeling to leave but decided to stay. We tried to order appetizers but were told we needed to order all at once and he'd come back. We ended up ordering the burrata and filone bread to start, and the mezzaluna, and spaghetti pomodoro for our entrees. The burrata arrived quickly and was the smallest portion we've ever had with the most amount of basil covering the plate. The burrata was okay, flavor was a bit off. The filone bread was good, as was the little tomato oil it comes with. The server wasn't very attentive throughout the dinner. Didn't check in often or very much. We received our entrees, the mezzaluna looked like a decent portion of the pasta but not a lot of asparagus and the peas were hard. This entree was luke warm, heading towards cold. The taste of the pasta and ricotta was good but the sauce was underwhelming. We are long time fans of the pomodoro so I was excited for it and it was the biggest disappointment. I understand al dente, but this was legitimately hard and the sauce was not fresh, the flavor was also off. Ironically the portion was generous for the pomodoro but that couldn't make up for the texture and taste. An employee walked by and asked if things were okay and we ended up sending that pasta back with her. About 10 minutes later our server checked in about the pasta and asked if we wanted something else, we politely declined. Dessert time rolled around and we ordered our favorite - the bread pudding. It was really delicious and fresh. Glad the dessert is always a hit. The kitchen also brought 3 scoops of pecan gelato as a courtesy. Prices have steadily gone up throughout the years and after the remodel. I understand everything has gone up in Miami but it did feel steep for the experience, quality, and portion of the food we had. Tip was an automatic 20% for a server I rarely saw. I think it used to be 18% grat in the past which always gave you the option to add more depending on your service. Overall, I'm really disappointed by my recent experience and honestly don't see myself returning to Macchialina for a very long time or if ever. Grateful to know the Macchialina team has some new concepts so maybe I'll be checking those out in the future. read more

Had an incredible time celebrating my friend's birthday here!!! Shout out to the kind and caring staff for going along with the surprise and for storing the cake / cutting it for us ($2 fee). We stayed for four hours (7:15pm to 11:15pm). It was a bit tricky finding the entrance, and we actually walked into the wrong restaurant at first. The entrance is through a gate with a very green passageway (lots of plants and trees). The restaurant is quite big with a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The difference between the temperature inside and outside was huge (the A/C was strong). We did a prix-fixe chefs tasting menu which was $79 (this is required for big parties). Honestly, the food was incredible. I loved the polenta (creamy, delicious mushrooms too) as well as both pastas (one was tomato based and the other was cheese based). They were very accommodating when we asked for only vegetarian options. I didn't love the cauliflower head dish. The desserts were also delicious (tiramisu, bread pudding, mango sorbet). For drinks, I liked the Midnight in Sicily (I didn't think it was that strong although it was 28% ABV). Again, the service was incredible. They were always checking in and clearing our plates / refilling our waters. Our lead server also checked in with us about when we were ready for the cake (to make sure no one was in the bathroom) as well as how to handle the bill. read more

Macchialina was touted by a local online website as the best Italian food in Miami, and Macchialina did NOT disappoint. The pasta is handmade and delicious. I hade the pastai di Mare with mussels, calamari, and shrimp. The seafood was fresh, the very light sauce on the pasta was divine. My husband had the pork chop- tender and well-seasoned, with a slightly sweet condiment they called "apple mustarda" that took the flavor to another level. Macchialina is a cute modern but rustic oasis with a patio and indoor dining. There are many Italian restaurants in Miami, but Macchialina is definitely one of the best. read more

The ambiance outside was actually very nice -- the patio is pleasant and has a relaxed Miami Beach vibe. Unfortunately, the good atmosphere didn't make up for the service issues. Our server couldn't even recommend a simple wine like a Chardonnay, which was surprising for a restaurant known for its food and wine program. It felt like there was little familiarity with the wine list or interest in helping us choose something we'd enjoy. The rest of the meal was average -- nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. Overall, the service set a disappointing tone that the food never really recovered from. Beautiful outdoor seating, but the overall experience just didn't live up to the hype. Had such a lovely experience here! I really enjoyed our meal. Glad we arrived somewhat early (about 6:30 on a Thursday) because by the time we left all the tables were full and we may not have been able to walk in the way we did. The food was great and I loved the option for half portions of pasta (although I will say they were pretty small). We got the mortadella which came with an amazing puff pastry. I wish it came with a sweet jam or something along those lines to combine with, but it came with two great savory add ons. The other app we got was the burrata which was delicious and a good size. For pastas we got the tagliolini which was great and the pomodoro which is a classic! We did wines by the glass and they were very generous in offering tasting and giving us recommendations based on our preferences. We've been to macchialana previously and gladly returned tonight for dinner. To be honest, it was not enjoyable. Not because of the food or service which was fine, but there was no AC and the room was filled with fans. It easily felt like 80 plus degrees inside My understanding was this is the status quo in summer as they have issues keeping the restaurant cool in the summer. Absolutely unacceptable. This is Miami end of July. Get it right or call your customers ahead and warn them. There are far too many restaurants in Miami with good or great food AND a comfortable environment. After some consideration, we all decided to do the Four Course Menu for $70 pp. This is something everybody in your party will have to do, as they bring out dishes for the table to share. The fun aspect when you pick this option is that you don't know what dishes you will be getting. The chef picks the options for you.. we all felt that was an unusual touch. We tried Macchiolina in Miami Beach last night for the first time. The restaurant was completely packed, which you love to see, but the ambiance was a mixed bag for us. It was very dark, dark to the point that we had to crank up our phone screen brightness just to read the menu. We were seated outside and it was hot and very loud, with music plus chatter all blending together in a small space. They had some fans going to help and the outdoor vibe was still solid. You definitely need a reservation to get in and I suggest making it for indoors. We started with cocktails. I had the Midnight in Sicily, which sounded solid since it used Woodford Double Oaked, but tbh it was small, pricey, and kinda mid. The gin martini of the month, some Pinocchio twist, was actually the better of the two. Drinks overall were fine, nothing special. For food, we went with the tasting menu and wine pairing on our server's recommendation (who was very friendly). The first course included three dishes: fresh bread with burrata and tomatoes (my favorite of the three), a broccolini Caesar (soggy and not for me, though my fiancée liked it), and a tricolore salad with nuts and pistachios, which we both enjoyed. The sparkling wines served with this course were a nice start. The pasta course was the highlight of the night. The homemade tagliatelle with brown butter and sage was great. Definitely the winner. The Macchiolina cavatelli came with a tangy tomato sauce and meatball and was our second favorite. The cacio e pepe was fine but not memorable. This course came with a red wine that was serviceable but not a standout. For the third course, after a long 20-minute gap, we had Mediterranean branzino paired with our favorite wine of the night, a Morgex--a high-altitude white from Valle d'Aosta. The wine was aromatic and layered, really nice. The fish was fresh and cooked well with a seasonal root vegetable puree, but flavor-wise it was pretty plain. Dessert was a unique tiramisu served with house-made limoncello. The limoncello was tasty, aromatic, and strong, but the tiramisu didn't win us over. It had an icy espresso topping that we didn't like, and the bottom half felt more like pudding than a traditional tiramisu. We just dug underneath the ice to finish it off. Overall, the ambiance is trendy, and modern, but it's also dark, loud, and expensive. Fine for us, but not for everyone. We paid a premium for food and drinks that didn't quite justify the cost. It's a fun date-night spot if you want something stylish and different in Miami Beach, but not one we'd return to for the food itself. read more

We went for a martini masterclass, but they didn't shy away from their service and the drinks were top notch. All this and the space was absolutely gorgeous. This was an amazing dinner with my wife. A hidden gem in the bussy South Beach. Soon as we arrived we were greeted with a smile and invited to our table. The server greeted us immediately and asked if we were there for the first time. After a brief presentation of the place and the specials he made recommandations for drinks and appetizers. It was a Wednesday night and the place already had customers. The music was upbeat and the atmosphere was vibrant, happy. The food started to arrived minutes later at the table. Presentation and flavors were on point. Chef Michael was on the expo checking the visual of every plate! Im a big fan of Italian cuisine and i was really impressed by the flavors and textures of the food! We finished our meal with a delicious Hazelnut Sundae and some chocolate liquor. We didn't felt rushed. Everyone was so attentive at the detalis, from the busses, foodrunners to the manager who came to check the satisfaction. We will definitely come back!!! read more

I've been wanting to try here for a while and finally have! Made reservations but we're running late and couldn't contact the restaurant via phone to push it back. There were plenty of openings on resy so we didn't panic and came in an hour late - no problem at all! :) We started with the creamy polenta and burrata salad. The polenta was an unexpected favorite, which I wouldn't have normally ordered, but it was rich and creamy and very tasty! For mains, we shared the lobster fra diavolo which was delicious and had a good amount of lobster. Very yummy! We also had the veal Milanese which was cooked perfectly and crispy to perfection! We also had a bottle of Chianti that was reasonably priced. It seems like some of the menu is seasonal so will be looking forward to visiting again sometime soon! read more

Ive been dying to try Macchialina since its been a South Beach staple and has made it to ALL "best restaurants" list throughout the years. Make sure to make a reservation (which is easy, there is lots of availability) or you will wait at least 30 min to be seated. I dont know how it was before the renovation, but the place now is SUPER cute. The indoor has dim lights and a beautiful bar. The patio is adorable, spacious and perfect for chilly winter days. Definitely a more casual/low key vibe. Food did not disappoint! We had the Local Burrata and the Cavatelli Macchialina - both great portions and delicious. We also paired them with red wine. GREAT meal in general, I just wish the menu had more pasta options. This is an amazing spot and it has officially made it to "my favorites" list as well :) read more

Franco was an excellent server. Very attentive, clued us in about the secret menu melt-in-your-mouth lasagna. If we were locals we would require return visits to try every homemade pasta. And the tricolore insalata was the perfect refreshing preamble. Don't skip the burrata. read more

After seeing Macchalina on most of the "places you have to eat in Miami" lists, I knew it would be a good place to take GF during her birthday trip. I was very aggressive in making every dinner reservation for 7pm, seemingly under the impression that we aren't old and grandmas now. They don't allow you make a chance on the Resy app, the platform they use for reservations, so I, literally, as a millennial, had to CALL and SPEAK TO A PERSON. It was actually pretty painless. It would be no problem to change our reservation to 6pm. Phew. It was a short drive from our South Beach hotel. I was debating between indoors and outdoors when I was making the reservation but I'm glad I chose indoors. The outdoor eating area is really cute, I love what they did with the decor, but they use these massive fans to keep air circulating. This is probably entirely necessary given the heat but I don't know if I would want my food blowing all over the place. Both servers who waited on our table were super friendly and helpful. As a pescetarian, she really wanted to sample the seafood. I really wanted to do the tasting menu but as a vegetarian, this would mean she wouldn't be able to wrap her lips around that oceany shit. After a lot of deliberation, we discussed our concerns with the waiter and asked if we could get a majority of vegetarian dishes with maybe a dish or two of seafood and, to our relief, he reassured us that this shouldn't be a problem. Like most other places we patronized in Miami, their drink menu has many intriguing options. I love how they include the ABV as it provides helpful info I never knew I needed. Even though I don't like martinis, I can definitely appreciate the option they provide to order a mini version or a normal-sized version. Anyways, I ordered a "what's your spaghetti policy" with whiskey, banana, crème de cacao, peychaud's, and absinthe. What on earth? So much depth I almost couldn't take it. It was on the stronger side, almost too strong for my juvenile palate. GF, with a more mature palate, ordered one of the martinis. She "thought it was good". Our first course started with a salad that was DIVINE. I love that dressing and the combo of textures. I ate pretty much all of it as one of our other appetizers was polenta with mushrooms. A vegetarian who doesn't like mushrooms crosses a shame boundary for me and I never mention it. Fortunately, GF loves the stuff and gobbled up the mushrooms for me. The mushroom-less polenta spoonfuls I was able to procure were DELICIOUS and so flavorful. Finally, we were served the burrata toast with arugula and cherry tomatoes. Again, a really wonderful and tasty dish. The second course brought us three pasta dishes: spaghetti marinara (DIVINE), fettuccine in a cream sauce with mushrooms (ugh), and a gnocchi-type shape with sage, parmesan and I'm sure some other shit but things were starting to get hazy with that cocktail. Everything was spectacular. The pasta was al dente to perfection with a wonderful texture, I would hazard to guess homemade and if not what is that brand? The flavors of the sauces were unreal, every single one of them. I want to buy it by the pound. Do they gold belly? Finally, and GF held off a little bit up until this point expecting to eat most of what was presumed to be a seafood entree, we were served the main. It was a cauliflower steak. GF was SO disappointed. The only reason we went with the tasting menu was because we were under the impression we could get seafood as well. It must have been a miscommunication but was extremely disappointing. Especially, as GF remarks, the price was the same for a bunch of veggies as who knows what fantastic and luxurious shit they serve the carnivores. Dessert was mini tiramisu jars and again, as you probably expect, was amazing. The food rivals some of the best pasta I've had in memory and everything was exceptional. The service was also top notch. The disappointment/misunderstanding about the dietary restrictions was disappointing and did put a damper on the evening but I can't help but recommend the shit out of this restaurant. read more

What a gem! Absolutely loved having a friend's dinner at this incredible restaurant this past weekend. The service was top-notch. Emily was incredibly helpful in explaining all aspects of the menu, especially the wines. Excellent recommendation by the way. At first we thought to individually order different things and share but they have a feature where you can get a taste of four courses that includes an appetizer, pasta, an entrée and a dessert at a supremely reasonable price, and it was by far the best decision. For the appetizers, we got the broccolini crunchy, savory and warm, and the creamy polenta with sausage, shiitake mushrooms & chives (one of my most favorite appetizers) only thing that would've elevated would be a thin to tostada to top it with. On to the pasta we had the Angelotti (melt in your mouth) and CAVATELLI MACCHIALINA baby meatballs, porchetta & pecorino. Spectacular! so soft and savory absolutely perfect. They also brought us a Caccio Al Pepe-also tasty. Mind you for a party of six it was two of everything. And we also tasted these soft crunchy pork sandwiches(not sure what was in it but they were good) The entrées came with one of the dishes that I was going to order individually the Branzino really good, equal parts, soft, and crunchy with mash Yukon, gold potatoes, olive and roasted cherry tomatoes. Presentation is just beautiful. We were celebrating some past birthdays, and enjoyed a delicious soft, warm bread pudding with a ball of vanilla ice cream and homemade whip sorry forgot the sauce, and they're famous tiramisu with coffee granitas(have to say this is the only thing that I didn't enjoy the ice cold granitas with the soft smooth consistency of the tiramisu just didn't go) but that was the only wrinkle. This place was phenomenal. Wish it was closer to me! I can't wait to go back the vibe is so laid-back warm and beautiful five stars! read more
