This place is so good! I got one chicken tinga street taco and a cup of their tortilla chicken soup. I forgot to grabs sides at the salsa bar so the chicken taco was meat only with a lime but the meat was marinated so well I almost didn't notice the lack of cilantro or onions. The soup was delicious right down to the broth and full of chicken, rice and chips. I had to grab a light lunch today but I'll be sure to be back soon to try all of their delicious tacos and their delicious looking pineapple drinks. I had an ok experience here, but it wasn't fantastic. I came on a hot day. There is pretty limited seating inside, so I went out on the patio. It is shaded, so it was tolerable. I ordered three tacos - asada, pollo, and al pastor. The tacos were $2.50 each. They were pretty small compared to what I expect from a taco truck. Based on the value, I would rate this a two-star experience. The flavors were decent, so I am bumping up to three stars. Wonderful Sunday afternoon lunch of shrimp tacos snd shrimp/spinach burrito. Each meal came with a free side of rice/ beans/side salad or chips. We had the black beans which were warm, flavorful and topped with cheese. The service was exceptional and the cook was concerned that the shrimp tacos were not up to his standard for crispiness and brought out a third one for my husband. My husband devoured all three! Would highly recommend this for a casual bite. We dined outside on the shaded back patio and enjoyed the spring breeze that was the perfect complement to a Redlands sunny afternoon. Best way to describe Machete's Taqueria is as white washed tacos. Which is not a bad thing. They are not your traditional greasy Mexican tacos. I will say that they are a different twist on traditional tacos. Very flavorful, homemade tortillas were excellent, salsas were very flavorful, tacos are well portioned and I like how finely chopped the onions and cilantro on the condiment section were. My reason for not giving them five stars is the food was not very warm. It was almost like eating cold tacos. The Taqueria is located in a good section. I just ate tacos from this place about two hours ago. I ordered 8 asada tacos and oh my goodness...HORRIBLE! The tacos didn't have cilantro or onion. One tiny lime for a lot of tacos. The tortillas were cold and there's was only one (street tacos normally have two tortillas). Salsas we're okay. We were given rice as a side, but that was also horrible. Cold. Stale. Flavorless. I've been here twice so far because the food here is incredible! I love the vegetarian options they offer, potato and mushroom are my favorite so far. Brought the family again tonight to pick up dinner but after seeing the cook sitting at a table with his gloves on using his phone then proceeding to wipe the counter with the same dirty gloves while waiting for us to order... While I think the location is not the best ( very outdated shopping center ) it truly is worth taking the trip out away from the newer scene of Redlands.. Cons: The price.. yes these are not your $1 tacos from the street or any hole in the wall taqueria , these are more upscale and the taste and authenticity of the fresh handmade tortillas matches that.. Quiet simply, this is the best real Mexican food in the area. I had the chalupas and tried a little bit of the sampler. In the chalupa, the taco shell was dense enough to hold the contents together and the tacos were very flavorful. I had the mushrooms, al pastor, and bistek. The sampler had a little bit of everything and the taco shell held the contents well and the tacos were again flavorful. This is probably the only Mexican restaurant that I know that makes its own taco shells and that is one reason why I love this place. The food is homemade. Its always nice to see new restaurants pop up in the area. There were things about Machete Tacqueria that I liked and things that needs to be improved. I had the taco sampler as I wanted to try a bit of everything. I love the handmade tortillas, they are flavorful and dense enough to hold together without being thick and chewy. The squash and the mushroom tacos were my least favorite. I the squash especially was soggy and under seasoned. The potato and chorizo as well as the al pastor were my 2 favorites. Both were flavorful and I loved the sweetness of the pineapples in the al pastor to balance out the spices. The seating is largely patio only, which can take its toll on a hot day. The misters do help but they can be pretty intense and get all over your food. The salsas are tasty with a pretty serious kick of heat in the habanero. Some little cups would be helpful to put salsa on the side vs on top to control the amount. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to finish the tacos, I ended up devouring them all and was still kind of hungry unfortunately. I wasn't too thrilled about paying $14 for 7 tacos and still being hungry. Its good place to try but with so many others in the area, this may be a 1 time stop for me. read more

We tried the vegan empanadas, nachos, and tacos de papas, and I thoroughly enjoyed them all. My daughter, who rarely goes out of her comfort zone with food, tried the empanadas with eggs and cheese and cleaned her plate, which I was both happy and disappointed by because I wanted to finish them for her. I have had their tacos, the machete, elote and gringa. Super freaking good. I am not a vegetarian but I love their squash and mushroom taco it's so bomb. Great taco joint that I just recently discovered and so glad I did. Came here today on a Friday and discovered they have 5 tacos for $7.95, which comes out to $1.60 a taco- Count me in! I got carnitas, al pastor, steak, and tinga chicken.....all good but my favorites were al pastor which had small pieces of pineapple and grilled onion. The tacos were on homemade corn tortillas that were just perfect. They had salsa hot or mild which were not hot and just average tasting to me. I also got a Modelo but they do have other beers to choose from as well as Mexican coke. The staff was friendly. They have only a few tables inside but have quite a few outdoor patio seating. Pretty solid flavors overall. The meat and salsas were very flavorful. We loved the al pastor with large pieces of pineapple. The sope wasn't really a sope, but more of a thicker tortilla. We expected a nice yellow corn fried masa sope. The place is brand new so may I offer a few humble suggestions: The can beers need to be cold. Not really a fan of pouring my beer over ice. The tortillas are handmade, which is awesome, but a little bit of oil on the flat top while cooking would do wonders for the overall texture. The potatoes were completely raw. Smaller cubes could help with that. Please provide little cups at the salsa bar. We like to try the salsas before pouring them over our food. Also, a sneeze guard would be nice. We may be back again because it's nearby and the patio seating is nice, but the price is a little high when it's very simple. read more

When this restaurant first opened a few years back and was owned by Elena Bonifaz, it was absolutely my fave Mexican food in Redlands. The sopa de lima soup, the esquite, the street tacos. Todos muy bueno! Whoever owns it now is not making the food to Elena's specifications because in general everything is too salty. The esquite wasn't very good the last time I had it (too much lime) & the sopa de lima was almost too salty to eat. Whenever you specify that you want something extra or special done to the order, make sure you double check that it was done before you leave the place or something will be missing. Like the salsa! Which of course is very important to the order. Less and less as time goes on do I like this place. If I was the owner I'd get Elena to come by and analyze what it is that they are doing wrong. read more
