Tough chicken, chipped plates, and Fruit Flies were apparently the theme of the night. The second any food came to the table we were swarmed by fruit flies, I felt like I was eating outside and was quite grossed out. Fruit flies all over the bathroom as well. 3/4 of the entree plates had the corners chipped off (probably not a good idea to have square plates). The chicken was very tough and always seems to be like this here so it's not an issue of over cooking but quality. We decided to stop in here last minute. I've eaten here back when it was Mack Ave Diner and always enjoyed my experience. When we first walked in, I noticed a very distinct musty smell. The musty smell was so strong I could barely smell food cooking in the kitchen 20 ft from the entrance. The decor of the place was slightly upscale while the staff were dressed in jeans and t-shirts...a bit of a mis-match. Really miss the 50's-style counter but the updated counter is nice, too. My grilled chicken salad was good but they put beets on my salad and left them off of the Greek salad my friend ordered. My nephew did not like the mac n cheese so he ordered the burger. When it came, it had no lettuce or tomato on the side and the fries were over-cooked. The replaced the fries but they tasted terrible. Not a big fan, miss the old Mack Avenue Diner and will probably not return anytime soon. Their identity is somewhat confusing. read more

We had dinner here the last two Fridays. The first trip we ordered a whitefish dinner and 2 atlantic salmon dinners. The dinners were ok.....maybe a 3.5 star at best. Yesterday we ordered 2 whitefish dinners and a salmon dinner. The whitefish was old....fishy and dried out. The salmon was better. While driving on this side of town noticed a lot of places to eat. Was looking for a menu we could choose .varied away from the general pizza or fast food. My wife ordered the Ruben and I ordered the hot turkey sandwich. My wife really liked her meal, said it was the best she had, had in a long time. Hot turkey was real turkey sliced up thick, mashed potatoes. Staff was very friendly and meals took no time at all. Nice place. Next time we're in the east side we'll go back. My friend and I stopped in here the Sunday before Memorial day mainly because it was the only place we found to be open. The name is so boring, I probably never would have stopped otherwise. I never would have known what I was missing! The booth tables are super tall so you feel like a little kid again! Good prices on burgers, it looked good. I actually didn't get a burger, I went with the turkey reuben (very tasty, should have asked for extra sauce) with real slices of turkey - not - lunch meat. The tomato basil soup was awesome. I really enjoyed this place. It is a smaller diner with great food and friendly staff. We had breakfast for dinner. I got the gyro omelette. It was a very fluffy omelette with great flavor. The hash browns could have used a lil more cooking. My gf got the very berry creme brûlée French toast. It was a thick cut Texas toast with a creme brûlée sauce and a berry sauce. It was to die for. We are moving to this area soon so I see many Sunday brunch trips, especially with their full bar! Highly recommend. read more

Came here a few times. The food was good. Square dish makes the food a little more elegant I guess. I often came for breakfast and order the bistro salad (I think) or a sandwich. The fries are pretty nice (small, about 1/2 of what you have from Burger King or McDonald). I would come back to try the dessert! read more

His place was really clean, and the service was friendly. My only confusion is that we had a host sit us, and someone else bring us our drinks, and our server, as well as someone else coming to check on us. They were not very busy when we came in, so I expect they were bored, but I really believe that management can get away with one host/ess, and two strong servers. The manager can manage the small bar. The food was great, and the portions were sensible for the price, meaning the prices were good and the portions were also good where it wasn't too much or not enough which is good as I tend to over eat read more

Formerly Mack Avenue Diner, The Mack Avenue Grille has a new face and an updated menu. Love what they've done with the interior, welcoming and classy. Service was friendly and efficient. The menu is vast, (probably 30 salads alone) I prefer a smaller, more specialized menu. As for the food, I was very disappointed in my multi-grain pancakes. I like my pancakes to be subtly sweet, light and airy with a little bit of chew. (And there are yummy multi-grain pancakes out there.) These were thick, dense, no air bubbles to be found, and the spice - nutmeg maybe - was overpowering. There were four pancakes in the order, I ate one. I had a bite of my husband's omelet, the flavors were good but it was dry; their omelets are very thick which isn't my favorite style. Hash browns were yummy. Very generous portions.The Grille is close to my house and I will say that they are always busy. In fact as we were leaving today at least 10 people were in line waiting for a table. It's probably not going to be a destination spot for me, but clearly others enjoy it. read more

I've been here a couple times before and get great service. I came with my friend today and we sat down. Someone greeted us and got our drink order. Our server came over with the drinks, slammed them down without a word and walked away. We were ready to order but she seemed busy and we kept looking at her and other workers there and they ignored us. We even out the menus at the edge of the table thinking that will get her to come over. Never did. We waited 15 minutes and we saw her coming toward our table but nope. Jokes on us. She went to a different table to bus it off then walked away. I got up, went to the host stand and told the lady that we were waiting for awhile and were leaving and the server tells us that "we just sat down". No ma'am. No. You were rude and never came to us and avoided us. I am a server myself. And even if that wasn't my table and I saw them looking around I would make sure they were taken care of. So, you're welcome to the blonde chick. You didn't have to wait on your last table. read more

Tried this place because of the reviews and a groupon was offered. I went with what some people recommended, the faijita salad, and my hubby had the city limit salad (I think it is called) blue cheese, walnuts, dried cranberries. The salads were big, and just OK, mine came with a lot of chicken, and it was spiced nicely, but the greens themself were kind of brown. Someone also said that the fries were really good so we ordered those too, and they were nothing special, just fries. I was glad I tried someplace new, but I wouldn't go back. read more

Okay, I am really disappointed in this place. I told Nick a few months back that they had closed because they were being sold. Well, Nick, guess what, the sale fell through. Because I really like them, we headed back on our usual Thursdays on the East side. Well, with owner present and all new waitress staff (she couldn't even rehire some of the former waitresses) it was less than satisfactory. We sat down and were brought menus. We literally sat for 15 minutes, I said we should leave then a waitress heads over and says, Oh, I am sorry, I thought so and so took your order; but the menus were still on the table, so I don't think so! Now mind you, I looked around and saw everyone else was being served very quickly, more so than us. Food took a while; my spinach and egg/onion salad with feta (my version without the chicken) was great as usual, but hubbie's blue burger was very dry and overcooked. Definitely not our usual experience at all. Then she never asked us if we wanted dessert (which I did) and never brought the bill to the table; I had to go up to the cashier to pay it. Reluctantly and with fond memories, I am thinking we will need to find a new Thursday lunch spot. read more

This place was simply not good. Got the steak and eggs. I could barely cut through, let alone chew, the steak. Eggs were low quality and runny. Fruit was actually pretty good for a silver lining. What it made it worse, my stomach was twisted all day and by night I had horrible stomach pain. Would not recommend a visit and if you do, avoid the steak and eggs :( read more

Had my first meal there about a week ago... can not wait to go back. Food was excellent and very reasonable priced. Food presentation resembled that of a far more expensive setting. Menu is extensive but every dish delivered was excellent from soup to salad on to roast beef dinner. Portion are generous particularly taking in to consideration the price.
