Nice quiet dinner overlooking the lake in the spring. Not much activity, but really good planked whitefish with duchess potatoes and a gigantic serving of vegetables ($18.99). My son had the surf and turf, and the steak was really good-tender and flavorful. Service could have been a little better, as we were the only diners on a Wednesday night. A complimentary bread basket would have been nice while we waited for our food. Overall a good experience for being the off-season. read more

Liked the whitefish so much we went back for another dinner there. The planked whitefish and Rockefeller whitefish were wonderful. We don't get whitefish back home, so this was a pleasant treat-very light and fresh, perfectly cooked-not over cooked ! We were VERY disappointed in our experience at this restaurant. We waited almost 10 minutes before anybody even came to the table to get our drink orders. Then it took another 10 minutes to get our drinks. My wife and I both wanted to order the special and they were out, apparently they did not get their meat order for the special. Total time to get food from time we sat down was about an hour and it wasn't even that busy. My wife ordered the smaller steak medium and it came back well done. I ordered the whitefish sandwich and it was a small piece of fish on a big bun and it was cold as were my sweet potato fries. We sent the steak back and had another one dropped off at our table within 10 minutes which was of course WELL DONE AGAIN!! By this time, I am extremely upset about the whole experience and ask to see the manager. 5-10 minutes later the manager comes to the table and I inform her on the poor experience we have had at this restaurant and she apologizes and says we won't charge you for that steak!! I am thinking that should be the minimum...of course I am not paying for a steak that is over cooked and nobody wants to eat! She obviously did not care very much about the patrons of this establishment and we will NEVER come here again. Our waitress was not very good either and she acted as if we were inconveniencing her when we asked for things. This was in our vacation the worst experience we had. There are not a lot of quality restaurants that we could find in St Ignace but by far this was the worst. From the flippant host who sat us in a 60 degrees dining area saying we would be fine to the 20 minute wait for the wait staff to acknowledge us because they did not want to wait on us in the cold. Complete menu, full bar. Good Sunday buffet. A good choice in an area with few good choices. Several of the dishes are excellent. I am a longtime summer resident familiar with St. Ignace. Disadvantage: smoking allowed and the space is open. If you can stand smoke, the bar has a great view of East Moran Bay and Mackinac Island. Dining area less smoky. read more

Today I went to Mackinaw Grill and it took us an hour to get our food that would have taken not even 15 minute to prepare and give out. That is ridiculous and our waitress forgot a lot of things and had to repeatedly come back because she forgot. She's a waitress for goodness sakes she's supposed to know how to do things she had to ask my sister to move her cup closer, um no put more effort in and move your hand an inch closer and grab it. And I asked for no sauce on my spaghetti, what did she do she brings it out with spaghetti. And my family's food was sitting in grease from waiting too long. As well as there is no soap in the women's restroom and men's and no toilet paper in the women's. There was no coordination between the waiters and waitresses. Get your act together! read more

We came to Mackinaw Grille because they had hosted two close friends wedding reception two years ago and the food was good. The first thing I noticed is that everyone who was working seemed to be miserable. All of these people hate their jobs. The portion sizes we so-so, but I had a hunch that would be the case in a resort town. We ordered an appetizer of potato skins and for 6.49$ we received 4 potato skins. I ordered the fish and chips special and was told the fish was cod. It may have been cod, but the fish had very little texture and the simply wasn't good. My wife ordered the chicken plank and it wasn't bad. The potatoes that accompanied the chicken were dry, but the chicken itself was pretty good. Our waters went empty more than a couple times throughout the dinner, and that's a personal pet peeve of mine. Overall it wasn't a terrible experience but there certainly is not anything calling me back. read more

Just had lunch here on a cold winter day. Good, local place. I had the whitefish patty melt. It hit the spot. We got here too late for the buffet but it looked good too. Nothing fancy, just a good basic meal. Nice service staff. read more

Bad experience. It was only our server's second day, so we couldn't fault her. Ordered an app, but were told the kitchen was behind so it would be a few extra minutes. Didn't have an issue with that; our toddler was content. 30 mins and a still half empty restaurant later, the app finally arrived along with my wife's salad (wrong dressing), my salad (without the chicken) and my son's chicken fingers and fries (we actually ordered him a grilled cheese and fries but whatever), and so we asked to speak to the manager. Had a polite convo with her saying we weren't looking for a discount or a freebie, but wanted to let her know that a 30+ minute wait for some fried pickles, two salads and a grilled cheese was kind of ridiculous. She apologized and offered a free dessert, which we declined; just wanted to vent a bit. Food itself wasn't all that good as our fried pickle app had gone soggy, salads were watery, and cold fries. Grilled cheese was the best part of the meal. Our family loves to support small business but if ur in St. Ignace, find a better place to eat. Or just eat in Mackinaw City. read more

TOURIST TRAP!! Worst service I have EVER had. It took 15+ minutes to get our drinks. The waitress took our order and from there it took an hour to get our food. When we finally got it both the steak and burger were way over cooked. We had asked for a side of mayo and two waters when she brought our meal. My mom planned on sending her over cooked steak back but the server never came back with the items we had asked for. Finally we asked another server for the waters and mayo and instead of bringing us what we needed she proceeded to ask other employees who our server was, which nobody could answer. 15 more minutes passed with no attention from any staff. We asked to speak with a manager. The manager never came over. 50 minutes after the waitress served us our food she came back and asked if we were all set. Still no water or mayo. She brought the bill, we payed, and as we were getting up from the table she was there to collect the money and her tip. Odd how attentive she was when it came time to get paid. Just across the bridge on the U.P. side. Feels like a place the locals may frequent and has a great view from the covered patio of the water and a small dog park. Whitefish Patty Melt was delicious - lighter than a traditional patty melt with better flavor. Good selection of beers. Service was as casual as the setting - no one was in a hurry - so just be patient and enjoy the view. read more

Stopped here with a colleague for a quick lunch. Great back patio (partially enclosed) which has a great view of the marina and bay. Colleague had the steak salad (New York strip) which she liked a lot. I had the fried perch. The perch was excellent - a little under-salted, but I like it that way. Service was good. Would definitely come back for dinner and drinks. Special note: have a nice lawn between bar and shore - with a corn hole set just waiting to be be played. read more

Keep Driving. We stopped here for dinner. Waitress acted like we were bothering her by being there. Her bar patrons were more important than us. Ordered soup and a simple steak with fries dinner. Finally got our soup 25 minutes after ordering. Another 20 minutes after that, the waitress asked if we wanted some water while we were waiting for our food. Never asked if we wanted another beer. I finally got up and asked to speak with the manager. She was back in the kitchen and when I said we just ordered simple meals, her response was "I don't cook the food, I Just work here". I was really looking forward to eating here! The location is awesome and the views are amazing! We saw the menu and liked the selection of seafood offerings. We were there on a Friday and they had a special all you can eat walleye and cod dinner. That's what I ordered and my wife just ordered the regular walleye dinner plate. When our order arrived, my wife had a plate of cod. The best and shortest way to explain what happened is to say the people in the kitchen had no idea what the difference was between the two fishes. When I requested more walleye, they brought cod instead. Saying that it was walleye. One of my friends steak fries where stone cold and our other friend had her order messed up as well. The server even admitted he made the mistake. When the bill arrived there was no adjustments made to help make things right. In short... very disappointed and have no plans to return. I would not recommend this place to anyone for their dining experience!!! Many other delicious places to eat in that town! read more

We ate here 2 nights ago after a long day exploring Michigan. We went later (about 8:30 pm), The food was great, the service even better. I highly recommend the Whitefish Chowder - better than any clam chowder I've ever had. Good prices and a beautiful view from their patio. I had the Bourbon Sirloin Tips; a couple pieces of the steak had a little fat, but you could taste the steak was grilled. My husband had the whitefish - lightly breaded - very tasty. We had to wait just a few minutes for a table, but that's because we wanted to sit outside. The entrees came with veggies (very nicely done; yellow carrots and other fresh veggies), duchess potatoes (whipped potatoes on a plank) again, quite tasty. Reasonable.
