Oddly, I have eaten at Macky's for decades, including when they were located in Chinatown, Seattle. They move to the Eastside, oh I can't remember when, but initially was located in the Gilman Village. Now they are located in downtown Issaquah. Throughout the years ... decades, I enjoyed their food, whether it's dim sum or classic Chinese dishes. Glad to have them nearby. Unfortunately, we have been tied up with certain issues and have not visited them in a year or so. I just want to note that I truly enjoy one lady who is the key wait staff. She waited on me in Seattle, and a number of times in Issaquah. She is quirky and brusque but a wonderful waitress. So, please note. Wife and I will return there as soon as possible. My husband and I stopped by for lunch yesterday. We were in issaquah and didn't want to drive all the way to Bellevue for our usual dim sum spot so settled here. Our waitress and the gentleman that served us were very friendly. They both deserve 5 stars. (This is why this review is getting 2 stars The food however was terrible. We ordered bean curd roll. It was very very chewy and salty and one note. I'm used to texture and not a hard ball of chewy something in the middle. It was borderline inedible. 0 stars Beef short ribs. These were marinated in something sweet. There were 9 small pieces on a bed of cooked carrots. The beef was chewy and not soft the way marinated short ribs usually are. They were meh. Not inedible but nothing special about them either. 1 star Pork shu mai. Ordered but never received. Cannot rate Crispy beef. This was good. However very very sweet. Three different servers asked if we wanted white rice. I'm sure it was to cut the sweet. BUT imo you shouldn't need white rice to make a dish yummy. It should stand alone as amazing. 1 star Tea. Here is where I have a MAJOR issue. When we were seated our server put tea on the table and turned the cups up for us. Even poured tea for us. The tea itself was good. However when we got the final bill there as a $2 tea charge. If you are going to charge for tea you should be upfront about it and not as an after thought. All in with tip it was a $49 lunch. Can't say enough good things about this place!!! I've been coming here since it was at its old location in Gilman village. Their current location is much bigger and can accommodate their growing business and it's still quite convenient with public parking right around the corner. Dining in person and take out have both been fab. I love that they have dim sum all day. They used to do the carts but basically no one does that anymore. Instead, you order off a menu and they bring everything out fresh to you. We always order their pork shu mai, shrimp balls, baked bbq pork buns, potstickers, cilantro dumplings, sesame seed balls, egg tarts, and garlic green beans. But we've tried almost everything on their dim sum menu and it's all really good. We also usually get an order of mapo tofu or eggplant or beef chow fun off the regular menu too to supplement for a larger group. Service is excellent. We love the people who run this place. They are always super kind to our family and work really hard. They keep the hot tea coming and check in frequently. Not to mention the restaurant is always clean! What we ordered: * wonton soup 4/5 - the soup is great and tasty and the wonton is fattttt; almost feels like a whole siu mai. * Salt and pepper fish 4.5/5 - i believe this is a hong kong style? Either way; its great! Love the crispy garlic on top and the fish is delicious!!! * General Tso chicken 4.7/5 - This is really really good. Its not overly battered and the sauce is not overly sweet. I love eating General Tso chicken and this one is deffinitely one of the best ive had. Hopefully it will be consistenly good! * Siu mau and Har Gao 4/5 - your typical siu mai and har gau. Guess we got lucky - servers were nice, (lots of people saying they're rude) but the food was awful. Everything was SO salty and tasted the same. Fried things tasted greasy, rice wrappings on dim sum had weird mealy texture that probably came from (I'm guessing) using and reheating frozen, pre-made items. I can't remember the last time I've had someone step outside to explain the menu and sold me to be invited inside. I've been waiting to come here for a while, but I personally have a prejudice against any Eastside place that offers dim sum (and Viet food) vs Seattle's ID. Although prices are a bit higher per dish, the portions were adequate and hit the spot for a craving. The har gow, sticky fried rice and taro pork dumpling were the best IMO. Luckily they had the full menu available for a weekday (holiday - July 4th) too. Food was decent, but we were in town for a massage and not necessarily dressed up -around 4pm, service was non existent, no service after food arrived, they seemed annoyed we were eating in since most people Pick up to go. But I did not appreciate spending. $50 for a soup and one dish with distain in their faces. We arrived a little bit close to closing and we had originally wanted to dine outside but there seems to be some construction going on. As we entered, the restaurant was gorgeous with soft piano covers of different classic songs. They had a beautiful fish tank in the corner of the restaurant. All tables had a soy sauce container, chili oil container, and sugar. We were greeted by a male waiter who directed us to our table with menus. He brought us waters and gave us ample time to look over the extensive menu. We decided to get the dinner for two as it came with dim sum which was I mainly wanted and we also got their hot tea, broccoli beef, Szechuan seafood, pork fried rice, and a large egg flower soup. The hot tea was very comforting and the perfect accompaniment with the food coming. We received our soup first and the waiter was kind enough to scoop out our portions which I thought was hospitable. The egg drop soup was seasoned well but I love spicy chili oil in my egg drop soup for that extra kick. We received our dim sum next and it was piping out, so be careful cause I burned my mouth a lot but it was so worth it. The dim sum was huge and full of flavor. We then received our entrees and it looked so delicious. My boyfriend was raving about the beef being some of the tender beefs he has ever had in his life and I'm inclined to agree. It just melts in your mouth! I liked the flavors of my dish but the vegetables were pretty tough and it was making my teeth sore. The choices of seafood options were tasty but it was hard to enjoy the vegetables which some of them I had to leave leftovers of. The fried rice was delicious too, the wok hei taste was very present and the BBQ pork was excellent. Didn't want to drive into Seattle today just for noodles, so we decided to go to a local Chinese restaurant in Issaquah. We chose Mackeys. Luckily we found parking and there wasn't any wait time for a table. We ordered the Seafood crispy chow mein and it satisfied my craving. The seafood & baby Shanghai bok Choy was fresh and tasty. I ate lunch at Macky's today, and it was amazing. Macky's is the best Chinese restaurant for so many reasons. It's the only Athenic Chinese restaurant around, the service is outstanding, and the food is exceptional. I had chicken curry today, and the chicken was moist and tender. My wife had the beef Chow Fun, and it was delicious. I can't believe how moist and tender the beef was. I highly recommend this resaurant, it is truly an colunary Asian experience you will not regret. My suggestion to this restaurant: if costs have gone up, just raise the menu prices directly. Most customers understand normal price increases. But quietly adding an extra dollar or two to some dishes on the bill -- and even getting "creative" with the tax calculation -- does not feel like honest business. read more

Macky's Dim Sum in Issaquah was a belated birthday meetup for two family groups, one from Shoreline and the other from Puyallup (2/11/23). I've never been before and clearly looked like a well loved, relocated family run restaurant in the downtown core. Free two hour shared parking lot is located behind the restaurant. We had made reservations, but the others were delayed due to a hit and run on I-405. Thankfully no one was injured, but were running late waiting for the WSP to file a police report, then file an insurance claim. We were seated, given the usual water, tea, and menus. But then pretty much were ignored for the first half hour. Finally when we approached by another wait person, we explained the circumstances. We would have been willing to get the ordering going upon being first seated, but as I said, we were totally ignored - that knocked off a half star. The interior had a separate bar area where the counter were full of takeout orders. The main dining room had various table configurations and well appointed pleasant decor including art work, faux fireplace, and an aquarium. There were a number of large groups seated onsite, but most were two and four tops. No challenge if one was a walk-in as there were at least three available tables during this Saturday midday visit. Our party of four ordered solely off of the dim sum menu, however, note there are no dim sum carts. Once that got placed, we received our orders rather swiftly and piping hot. This was fantastic as we were all famished and ready to eat. The wait person was trying to do more upsells with additional vegetable choices beyond the eggplant which was disregarded. We were a focused group ready to dig in. What was ordered: *Baked BBQ Turnover ($5.75) - pretty much devoured by The Homie *Shrimp Stuffed Eggplant ($5.75) - generously packed, tasty *Siomai (3 orders at $5.75 each) - decent, but prefer the ones at Bamboo Village *Shrimp Balls ($5.75) - plump, sweet and satisfying *Fried Sticky Rice (2 orders at $7.50 each) - that was deemed amazing! *Deep Fried Cod Fillets ($8.50) - fresh cuts with a nice light batter *Steamed Shanghai Soup Dumplings ($8) - stick with Din Tai Fung or Dough Zone. These were chewy and no soup, minus a half star *1/4 Roasted Duck ($12) - also absolutely amazing! *Egg Custard Tarts ($5.75) - tasty, thicker shortbread like crust *Red Bean Sesame Seed Balls ($5.75) - skip these, prefer the ones at Bamboo Village We had hearty appetites, but managed to have tiny leftovers to split between our two groups. It was nice to be able to catch up, eat leisurely, and didn't feel rushed which I greatly appreciated. Got refills on water, but not hot tea. Service was unobtrusive once we dug in to our dim sum afternoon meal. Macky's Dim Sum is a decent find in Issaquah, a city which has quite the dining scene with a wide selection of available restaurants to select from. I still prefer spots in Seattle, Edmonds, and Bellevue for dim sum. But this is a solid choice where you will leave full and satisfied. read more

This is one of our favorite restaurants in Issaquah. After many years in Gilman Village Macky's moved into the Cloud 9 Lounge space which was the bar serving the old Mandarin Garden. They quit doing the dim sum carts because of COVID-19. We love the turnip cakes, shrimp dumplings, spicy green beans, and salt and pepper cod. We also get BBQ pork and we typically finish with Singapore noodles. However we have seen some really great looking dishes come out of the kitchen and really need to try some new things. We barely had time to sit down when they ran over and kept asking if we were ready to order. We say no, no, no, but they would not listen. My brother-in-law was barely pulling his baby out of the stroller and gave them the firmest no, but they were like are you sure? And he was like, yeah, no, we just got here? Another waitress would come and offer us cold eggrolls and other appetizers. The first time we said yes to the eggrolls, but the second time and third time, they wouldn't accept the first no. When we were ready to order, she kept pushing and pressuring us to get the largest size just because we were a group, but my family all had different dietary plans. Also the receipt was not itemized which felt icky. Food did not feel that fresh, it was very mediocre. Not bad flavor, sometimes bland, but overall okay, with very pushy, overwhelming service. Even if dim sum is known for "the worst the service, the better the food", it really was just meh all around. We had garlic green beans, pork sui mai, shrimp dumplings, fried pork dumplings football and house chow mein with crispy noodles. The food was good. The service was excellent. Food: 4 Service: 5 Cleaningness: 5 Price: 3.5 The dimsums were actually pretty good and fresh than I expected. I thought it would not go wrong with fried rice dish in Chinese restaurants, and we ordered chicken fried rice just in case we needed some food for the night during hotel staying. The fried rice came out not impressed, but pricy. From what I ordered, I would suggest get BBQ pork filling instead of regular pork dumplings or fried potstickers. The regular one doesn't taste as fresh or better than BBQ buns, pineapple turtle buns or BBQ puffs. Onion pancakes were good as well. I really enjoy Chinese donuts with rice noodle rolls, I was wondering whether I could have Chinese donuts only (that really tastes like Korean donuts). Of course Shrimp rice noodle rolls is the signature in dimsum menu, it was as good, but donuts one is rarely to see to me. You can ignore Spinash shrimp dumplings, the regular one should be good enough. Another suggestion is, focus on Dimsum menu, it is pricy, but at least dimsums are special than regular Chinese dishes. (Regular one doesn't go any cheaper, so why not go for special items!!!) Employees were super friendly and ask them whether have the dishes not in the menu, they would be happy to bring out and let you choose (BBQ pineapple bun was the one not in the menu, and I was glad the waitress introduced, and I am still missing the bun so much!) Positives: Great customer service! Everyone was very friendly and attentive. We were seated quickly and didn't have to wait even while it was fairly full inside. It's pretty clean inside and has a good amount of space for seating. Not so great: It was overpriced and wasn't worth it. I'm not too surprised at the steeper prices considering the area. There's also not many dim sum options around this area either so that might also be a cause for that. However I don't think the quality of the food and the match or justify the prices. I wasn't expecting it to be as great as dim sum you'd get from Seattle's International District but I was still hoping it would still be a little bit better. Also it's worth noting that it's not cart style. When we called and asked if it was cart style they said it was but when we got there we found out it wasn't. You order off a limited dim sum menu. When we do dim sum we prefer cart style and it would be preferred if there were more options. They were pretty quick for the most part with getting our orders out so it wasn't too bad. The experience was okay. It's a plus that everyone was very friendly. We were just passing through the area and needed a quick lunch so we decided to come here but we likely wouldn't come back when we're in this area again. read more
