While in desperate need for a new delicious Chinese Restaurant we decided to give this a try. Here is what we ordered and what we rate it: Sweet and sour pork 5/5 good flavor, not greasy Mongolian beef: 4/5 good flavor but the veggies were literally whatever they had available, didn't fully make sense. There was also hardly any crispy noodles (they weren't crispy) Beef and veggies: 3/5 good flavor but the broccoli and cauliflower were not appealing. Also odd veggie mix again. Bbq pork chow main: 3/5 would have been higher except two very large pieces of egg shell was found in the mix. Bbq pork: 4/5 authentic, great flavor, but very fatty. We wouldn't order this again unfortunately. read more

I enjoy getting the roast meats from yummy garden! Especially the roast duck. I haven't dined inside, so I can't speak for the ambiance. However, I can say that the kitchen staff after very attentive to your order notes. I particularly love the duck sauce that comes with their roast duck! read more

For 3 adults we had 1lb of pork belly, house special fried rice, garlic green beans and the wonton soup with noodles. The green beens were a table favorite. Crunchy, full of flavor and the garlic was not overly powerful. It was perfect. A pound of pork belly is enough for 4, what's in the picture is what is leftover. We've been there once before, and it was very good. This time we went and tried to order the combo meal and they said oh well, we don't have fried rice. We don't have soup that we're all supposed to come with it. And I'm like, this so do you have any options with this. The waiter said nope. That's it. It's all you get. We're not changing anything. Really was not happy with that answer. He gave no other suggestions and once I finally placed my order with the White, rice and no soup on the combo. It took forever for them to bring it out to me. There is several other customers that showed up after us, and they all had their complete meal served to them. I was definitely not happy. It ruined a perfectly good evening. My wife had finished her meal completely. Before mine even showed up. She had to go up and get and asked for water. The food is good there, but service was just absolutely horrible. I ordered some dishes togo, so I can't speak on the service, but everything was packaged nicely without spilling! Roasted pork -- 4.5/ 5. Probably one of the better roasted porks I've gotten in Washington. It was a little cold when I got it, but that's kind of expected with a togo order. The skin had a nice crisp and it wasn't too salty. Wonton noodle soup -- 3.5/5. The portion was HUGE! I ordered 2, but I ended up sharing 1 portion with my partner. The soup was lacking some flavor so we added salt and pepper, but other than that it tasted solid Honey walnut shrimp -- 4/5. A little pricey in my opinion, but it tasted great. My mom recommended we try Yummy Garden for dinner. Increasingly, there are more Chinese restaurants popping up in cities like Renton and Bellevue. You don't need to go to Seattle Chinatown these days for Chinese food. I wasn't sure whether they were still undergoing soft opening, as the menu seemed limited and had limited seafood options. It was more meat centric, especially with roasted duck, geese, and pork. Unfortunately, the restaurant sold out of these delectable items on our visit. Helps to order in advance. Several good dishes from our visit: * Salt and Pepper Pork Chop were crispy, moist and soft, and well seasoned. The fried crust was almost tempura-like. * My dad loved this fried noodle dish that was served upside down, with the sautéed meat and veggies encased inside a crispy shell of fused noodles. *Sautéed pea sprouts always a good veggie option in Chinese restaurants, but do expect to pay more than say, Gai Lan. * Free Tapioca dessert is always welcome. In the Renton Highlands, there are several nice Chinese restaurants. Some better than others for sure. But one spot in the Sunset Square strip mall is always in constant flux. As of 2024, the current resident-Chinese restaurant goes by the name of Yummy Garden. Now over the past years, it has changed hands, as well as menu. This time, it has transformed itself from the 1970's divey Chinese-American establishment, to something more modern, cleaner and upgraded decor. Now it is not just simply a refresh of the furniture while keeping the same menu. This place definitely reflects new ownership and a new attitude of service, as well as menu. At Yummy Garden, you notice there is no traditional front counter. You are greeted at the front and promptly seated. However, if you want something to go, you walk to back counter where there is a TV screen showing today's specialties, and window where you can view the latest roast duck or roasted BBQ pork offerings. No other Chinese restaurant in Renton, that I know of, offers this. The menus are also not photocopied, but printed with hard-back covers (nice touch). The food quality is vastly different (in a very good way) and well presented. Where there are daily lunch specials, they are definitely presented well, as not rushed on the plate, as other restaurants would do. If you are there to sit, you can enjoy your meal, and notice the dish is as appealing as you ordered. I had the ginger beef lunch special, and added broccoli (extra charge of course) and my friend has the sweet and sour chicken. If you sit down, the added bonus is that you are given a hot bowl of egg-drop soup, or hot and sour, if available. Don't forget the tea. I also couldn't resist to order a pound of roasted BBQ pork, complete with hot mustard. It's what makes a great meal! Be advised, this restaurant does not offer dim sum. Only a few in Renton do, and it's okay if this one doesn't. Banquet space is available. So, if you are in the Renton Highlands on northeast Sunset Boulevard and looking hunkering for some well-to-do Chinese, try Yummy Garden. It is quite yummy! read more

At the recommendation from a friend I came to Yummy Garden to get their Chinese BBQ. Servers are nice and seems like a nice restaurant, but the few times I've been here I usually just get it to go. Their BBQ is amazing. I'm a little hesitant to recommend the roasted pork, because it's limited on the day, but it's the absolute best I've had in Washington State. My family and I were long time customers of the former Chinese restaurant at this location, Red Bamboo. We were also long time customers of the restaurant before Red Bamboo, Mandarin Palace. Alas, the management has changed hands once again under a new restaurant name, Yummy Garden. They have been open since October 2023 and have since renovated the interior of the restaurant including a new restaurant layout and repainted walls. Although we were sad to see that our beloved Red Bamboo restaurant had closed, we decided to give Yummy Kitchen a try. We came for Sunday night dinner at around 5:30pm. There were about four other groups already eating when we walked in. The restaurant has at least a dozen tables and so we had no issue getting a table. While Red Bamboo served mostly Cantonese (Southern Chinese) dishes, Yummy Garden serves mainly Mandarin (Northern Chinese) food with a few Cantonese dishes scattered throughout the menu. The menu was about six pages long, attached with a single ring clasp. I overheard one of the servers say they're getting more formal menus on Monday. My family ordered: the PUMPKIN with SALTED EGG, CHOW FUN with BBQ PORK, SEAFOOD TOFU CLAYPOT, and SPICY GREEN BEANS with PORK. We also were going to order four bowls of rice, but the waiter said the bowls were big and thus advised we order two bowls of rice for the four of us instead- which we are glad we did because each bowl was enough for at least two people. The PUMPKIN with SALTED EGG was the most unique dish of the dishes we ordered. Unlike other restaurants, the chef deep fried the pumpkin coated in salted egg rather than sprinkling salted egg on top of the fried pumpkin. The pumpkin was sweet and perfectly fried. This was our family's favorite dish of the night. The CHOW FUN with BBQ PORK was our least favorite dish as it was slightly anemic/wasn't charred enough and didn't have a lot of pork. With that said, the portion size was generous. The SEAFOOD TOFU CLAYPOT was good and came with a variety of different seafood (rock cod, shrimp, squid) and vegetables. While tasty, the slurry (sauce) was a little thin and dilute. It just needed a little more cornstarch to thicken jt. Lastly, the SPICY GREEN BEANS with PORK was nicely caramelized. The beans were fresh and had a nice crunch to them. They were nicely seasoned with dried shrimp and garlic. My only complaint was that the pork was overly salty. Tea and dessert were both complimentary. The tea was brewed super dark (almost like coffee) and was some variety of black tea. Dessert tonight was red bean soup which was the perfect amount of sweetness to end the meal. Service was good, but we did have to wave the waiter down a couple of times. With that said, I understand that they're still figuring some things out as they've been only open a few weeks. We came here shortly after their grand opening (summer '23 maybe). I wasn't sure if the menu was the same as the Red Bamboo or not. They certainly changed the decor. The room is much more open and yet strangely situated or is it just me? Anyhow, the menu did indeed change so it took me a while to decide what I wanted. Settled on the beef soup and veggies stir fry. For 2 dishes, I thought it was rather pricey and the portion for the soup was on the small side for the price. The soup was plentiful but the other stuff was not. I liked that it was tasty though. I appreciated that the veggie dish included lots of variety. It came out nice and hot. This hidden gem is tuck away in a strip mall that feels like it's only known to locals. Our friend, who lives in a town over took us here for lunch. As we entered the restaurant after lunch rush, we had the place to ourselves at first. W we're greeted with a friendly smile and immediately seated by the window. The menu was larger and had more options than I had imagined. The food was just delicious.the stir fry beef was juicy and tender. The place I usually have lunch was closed today so I came here and thought I'd give it a try. The restaurant is super clean. Agreed that this is an unassuming gem for canto food / SE Chinese food. A lot of authentic soups and things like the oyster pancake which is more fujian style; more eggy and less gummy with red sauce as they do it in Taiwan. Tastes like home cooking for me. Solid 4. Decent Cantonese food (though a bit oily) with plenty of free parking. Mostly catered for groups but there are a few booths for 1-4 people. Service is slow, had to flag down a few times to get help, but the employees are kind and patient. Great variety of dishes, including some special chefs creations like salted pumpkin and deep fried vermicelli beef/pork. Seafood tofu clay pot had perfectly cooked large shrimp, but it could do with less broccoli and more variety of vegetables (e.g. carrots, snow peas). Free peanuts, (pu er?) tea and dessert of the day. Expensive but portions are large, 1 item can serve 2 (or plenty of leftovers). Though the main menu is more authentic Cantonese, they have weekday lunch and daily dinner combo specials with more Americanized menu (e.g. orange chicken, mongolian beef). My second time coming here, since it is nearby. Both times, I was disappointed in cooked dishes. The somewhat positive is that Chinese BBQ pork, Roast pork, and Roast duck are sold here in hanging glass case. Not as fresh as right out of the oven, such is the case no matter any day, what is hanging can be a day or longer since the last roast. The duck looked good but taste was a bit bland. The roast pork had good meat and less fat. The BBQ pork looked good also, and some chewy cuts. Seems Chinese BBQ places in Bellevue is a bit better. The disappointment is in Braised Tofu and any Stir Fry Chicken dish. Braised Tofu has 1/3 tofu and 2/3 broccoli--go figure. Chicken meat dish has chewy chunks of chicken, definitely not fresh white meat. I see other tables ordering dishes I do not typically order, like oysters on the shell, so Yummy Garden has a certain clientele that keeps going back. I doubt I will visit again. read more

My family used to eat in restaurant and we decided to opt for takeout recently but it was a very poor experience. There was nobody in the restaurant as we entered, smelled of smoke since the cook had been smoking outside before going in to eat. We ordered a few lunch specials and it took about 15/20 mins - one other person game for pickup during the time we were there. Should have checked the food as when we got home. The one dish that is supposed to come with sauce (sweet and sour chicken) came with no sauce on it and a small portion of chicken... the other too we ordered (kung pao chicken and shrimp) had decent sauce but was mostly served with filler veggies (so much celery). We called to let them know but it's pot like they did anything about it and we weren't going to drive all the way back to the restaurant for one dish. This wasn't what I expected, that said, this place does have potential and I hope they reach it. I forget the name of the place that used to be here, but we ate here several times a year through the 90's and early 2000's. Above average Chinese food, but the best Hong Kong style noodles I've ever had! Since they closed, this place has changed hands and names multiple times and so far no one has been successful. I came in for lunch, it's the cheapest and easiest way to sample multiple items. I had the Mongolian Beef with Hot & Sour soup. I wasn't impressed. The soup was room temp. I don't know what most places do, maybe they microwave the soup for a few second, but it's always served with steam. Had this soup been hot, it would have been delicious. I would have to assume in the 40 years I've been eating Mongolian Beef, I've had it at least 1000 times since In some cases I've had it several times in a week. It's typically beef with white and green onion chilies and rice noodles. Some places skip the chilies, because people eat them not knowing how hot they are, I've also had it served without rice noodles and the one curve-ball is some places serve it with mushroom. Today was a first, this place had bell peppers and zucchini in he dish. Now a teriyaki place may use bell pepper, but I've never seen it at a Chinese restaurant and I certainly never had it wit zucchini, YUCK! I'd assume it was more about making the plate look full, but there was no white or green onion either. The beef tasted pretty good, but again, the dish wasn't served hot. This was a huge disappointment, the flavor of the beef was impressive but with everything served room tempt and the crazy variation on the Mongo Beef, I can't speak positively about this place. At some point I'll return, because again the flavor was good, but they got to raise the temp of what they serve and get a little closer to traditional ingredients. I'd be nervous about how they serve any other dish as well. Fix those two things and you are 4 star easy, right now 2 is the best I can do. read more

I'm writing this as this is the third strike we have encountered ordering from here. I will just write about our most recent visit. We placed a to-go order as we had family in town from Cali and were looking to get a quick bite. This location is the closest Chinese spot to us. When we called and confirmed the order just to make sure it was correct as we have had not so pleasant experiences previously. We reviewed the ticket tagged on the bag and looked perfect. But when we got home and opened the bag, two of the four dishes were incorrect or had missing items that should have been a part of the entree. The first being the bbq pork fried rice. On the ticket it is clearly labeled but we received a very salty fried rice. The other item is a popular dish, honey walnut prawns, cool right, but why wasn't there any honey walnuts, just prawns? My suggestion if you are to order from here, open the order and confirm it's correct at the restaurant. Good thing the adults tried the rice first as one of the little ones is highly allergic to fish. read more
