Equipment is broken for extended periods of time, the facility is dirty, it is extremely hot in the summer, and certain employees are very rude and unprofessional. Sarah specifically was quite nasty and unprofessional over the phone and in person. They make it seem as if you have signed your life away to join their mediocre gym. This gym is a scam, and I regret ever signing up. My friend goes to this gym and invited me to play basketball with him using his guest pass. Upon arrival, the staff immediately approached me and asked if I wanted to sign up. I told them no, as I already have a membership at Edge Fitness, and I didn't want to sign another contract. Despite this, they kept pushing me to sign up. After we finished our game, they kept bothering me about it. I told them the only way I'd consider it was if I wasn't under contract and could cancel anytime. They figured out a solution where they put me on my friend's account, assuring me that I could cancel whenever I wanted. After about a year, I became frustrated because the gym was poorly maintained--most of the machines were rusted. I decided I wanted to cancel my membership. I spoke to the staff, and they told me they'd contact the cancellation department and get back to me within a week. A week passed, and I heard nothing. I went back to the gym, and they gave me the same response. I agreed to wait another week, but still, no follow-up. After a third visit, they told me that my friend had to be on the phone or present to cancel the membership. I called him, but they made up another excuse. At this point, I was beyond frustrated. Why was it so difficult to cancel my membership? I told my friend to take care of it, as I wasn't paying for this anymore. After about a month, he finally managed to get me removed from the account. However, I later found out that they hadn't actually removed me--they'd just frozen my account and started charging my friend again. The business hours at the last remaining location are not accurate since the employees can close the building prior to the advertised closing hours and do so frequently. - Gym makes it incredibly difficult to cancel your membership after your 2 year contract and gaslights its customers stating that they renewed their 2-year contract. You also are required to give a 30-day letter notice of cancellation. However, there is never any staff present on the property that can pass along the letter to the person who can cancel your membership. - on 4/21 the site kicked out its members at 8:30pm when the hours of operation stated the gym is open until 10pm. The employee stated "I live an hour away and there's nobody else that can cover my shift so we need to close the gym." This is fraudulent advertisement of their business hours and is essentially stealing money from its members when you pay a premium monthly amount for the gym to keep its doors open during the advertised business hours. - There are multiple machines that are in bad condition and no evidence of routine cleaning being done. Macomb Athletic Club sold me a contract for one year of personal training services, 3 to 4 times a week for 52 weeks. The personal trainer assigned to me quit before our first session. Macomb Athletic Club did not inform me, my personal trainer did. I called Macomb Athletic Club and was told my information was correct, I didn't have a personal trainer. When were they going to tell me that? I requested that since Macomb Athletic Club was in breach of their contract that they release me from the contract but they have refused. Macomb Athletic Club doesn't have enough personal trainers to honor the contracts they are selling, and they don't appear to have enough Customer Service employees to contact members about issues like, "Hey, you don't have a personal trainer!" in a timely manner. The only reason I received a phone call from them was because I contacted them first. The first phone call came 5 days after my personal trainer informed me that he no longer worked there, and 1 day after I personally delivered a letter to Macomb Athletic Club informing them I wanted to be released from my contract because they were in breach of it. They refused. I also have not received a copy of my contract. I was told it would be emailed to me. I never received it. The woman in Customer Support I spoke with straight up lied and said I received it. Go drive past the place any time during their operating hours and notice how few cars are in the parking lot in front of Macomb Athletic Club. Then go into the gym and see how many people are there. I've yet to see more than two clients in the gym at one time. Macomb Athletic Club has refused to release me from a contract which they have breached and have informed me they will report the $105 weekly payment for 52 weeks ($5,460) to a collection agency. I have contacted my credit card company and they have disputed the charges and will not allow them to charge my card anymore because the services I paid for have not been received. This gym is so scummy worked there for years! Opened the gym for years which I never got paid for. I'm a 1099 worker and I was doing things a w2 worker was doing because they promised to help me seek clients! They would lie to the clients faces, put them in this slave contract for 2 years, and no way of getting out of it. The pt contracts were even worse. You can't use your sessions if you miss them. They say they'll add up at the end but they never say that you have to have an active pt contract to use the ones you paid for so essential you're never getting out of it. And you won't get the sessions you paid for. Also if you have a medical emergency or taking a vacation THEY DO NOT freeze your account or payment! They'll still charge you for every cent even if you don't use it! They would make their trainers jump through hoops to get paid! They gotta sign their sheet of paper, they have to scan in, they have to be current on their payments, they have to be on the schedule! Or else you don't get paid! DID NOT inform me of the fact that you can cancel the membership within THREE days of having it. So I was forced to pay up in a time I could not. Jeff the regional manager or whatever seems to be a stuck-up, snobby, egotistical salesmen when you first meet him, but when you actually get to know him and see him everyday, HE IS EXACTLY THAT. Flashy cars, always wearing jordan. Yet, the gym functions like garbage. If you need any help with your membership, good luck. They do not tell you that you need a 30-day notice/letter to either freeze or cancel your membership. It genuinely feels like the management is only there to get memberships and nothing else. I had to talk to Jose, one of the managers currently, and he did not tell me that you need to write a letter 30 days prior to wanting an account frozen. Back in 2022 when I first came, A LETTER WAS NOT NEEDED TO DO THAT! Now personal training is another thing. Now I am conflicted about this topic, as everyone has different goals. But for me, I had a bad time until I met Saad. I had three trainers over a year while i was there, and the first two trainers I had were terrible. But, Saad is actually a great trainer. If you genuinely think you need personal training, ONLY get it if Saad is your training. Keep in mind, THEY HIRE ANYONE TO BE A PERSONAL TRAINER. They promise you a meal plan, pictures, and to keep in touch for your goals. But even tho I was only 1 time a week, i never got that.. once. They also promise you free personal training. I PROMISE YOU it is not free. When you sign up you get a certain amount of sessions free. for me i got 7 free sessions. I never got to use them. Also they automatically have your PT set for AUTO-RENEWAL. I had an issue with that because when I thought I was done, I kept getting charged! and then they told me that I had to submit that letter that I mentioned earlier. Jeffs daughter at the time was management, and she actually canceled the next 30 days of payments for me which was very nice of her because since i submitted the letter late, I would have had to pay 70x4 because of that. But guess what.. SHE'S GONE! Now I will admit, the gym itself is not the worst. Basketball court, Turf, and a little Sauna at the Mount Clemens location. The Saint Claire Shores locations has Newer equipment and turf, plus it is 24/7. I have never been to the Fraser location. So if you get the membership at $100 up-front and $30 a month, the gyms are never busy (wonder why) and you get access to all 3 locations, I will give it that little praise. BUT AGAIN that is if you get it for that price and you have no intent to 1.) Move away. 2.) Get PT. and 3.) Cancel or Freeze your account. Because the employees have no idea how to help you when stuff hits the fan and you need to freeze your account or help you in time of financial struggle. To sum it up. Horrible gym!! I have been a member for over 10 years. The Equipment is old and outdated not mention falling apart. They charge outrageous start up fee's claiming it is to pay the trainers. When you tell them you don't want a trainer and have been training yourself for years they tell you that you can gift the sessions. They went from 3 locations down to one. Also the hours are ridiculous they close at 7pm on Friday & 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, so if you work weekends and want to go to the gym forget it. What gym closes at 5pm on weekends? This gym used to be a thriving and busy. I'd say the new owners have ruined it. I think they should sell this location to champion as well and cut their losses. I come here because it's convenient. Not because it's a great place. This place is in dire need of an update. I wish I would have asked more questions and received a complete tour of this place instead of being sold on alleged renovations of things. The women's locker room is the worst as you can see from my pictures they are almost always this gross. Not many of the lockers work properly and there is almost always a shower out of commission. The handicap shower is the largest and always the dirtiest. The staff is rarely friendly with the exception of the lady that tends to the children's center. I've been hesitant to write a review since I work out here and was afraid of what may happen. They have started getting new equipment and adding some decor to the front but that is expected since PF is moving in next door. They should have focused on equipment and locker rooms prior to the competition moving in next door. I've tried canceling twice once the gentleman made me feel like if I did he would sue me. The second time was a young lady who I've seen before albeit not a welcoming customer service rep but she was professional. Disclaimer: Last year I would come 4-5 times a week like clock work. This year due to unforeseen personal events I don't come as regularly. I have been on and off this year but the all of the above remains true. This gym is disgusting. The facility is fine, it's typical gym. However, Adam the manager and Gary the "salesman" are a whole new level of scum. I'm writing this review on behalf of my brother who was taken advantage of by these two. It's important to note, my brother has severe social anxiety and isn't good at sticking up for himself. He went into this gym just to check it out (after being coached by his mother to not sign for anything), and was pressured so hard by Gary that he, unbeknownst to him, signed up for 2 YEARS. I'm sure Gary could feel an easy target, most con artists do, but the worst part is my brother went back the next day and tried to get back out of the contract and Gary said "Sorry, there's nothing we can do," despite the fact that the contract stipulates anyone can back out of the contract within 3 days (which my brother should have known, but of course, wasn't relayed to him in the beginning and is in the smallest size font possible.) Of course my brother should have been more aware of what he was signing, but I'm sure everyone knows someone they can imagine falling prey in this situation. My mother, the saint that she is, tried to fix this for her son. However, after multiple calls pleading these two "entrepreneurs" to release my brother from the contract, gave her the typical run-around and at the end, blatantly LIED and said "we have notes you have called here before, (my brother) seems to really enjoy it here, etc." So, I implore any would-be gym goer here, DO NOT GO HERE.
