Everything tasted delicious but I especially loved the strawberry muddy mix since it was super flavorful and easy to share! I also would heavily recommend the Buko Pandan Latte. I kept hearing really good reviews and i wanted to try it! I got the iced ube thai tea and the iced turon latte and honestly... it was so buns... i was really bummed out. The ube thai tea sounded hella good and wanted to try it besides the iced turon latte and i was disappointed not gonna lie. This drink was separated from the actual main menu so it was their specialty. I did not taste the ube, it tasted hella watered down, not sweet at all, just straight sadness. The turon latte was okay, i didn't taste the turon, it tasted just like an iced latte. I also got the ube cookie and the cookie was better than the drinks. I cannot recommend this place anymore. I was scammed today when I asked for a cup of water and I saw a 1 dollar surcharge. I asked the cashier if it was free and she said yes. When I got the receipt, I saw I was charged for 1 dollar. When I confronted her again, she made up some excuse about how it's a surcharge now. She never offered me a refund after I said I woulnt have gotten it if I knew it wasnt free. I was understandably angry and I when I got my coffee, I asked again why they were charging a dollar for a cup of water with a purchase ( I got a coffee and an ice cream). the ladies were nice enough and offered me a refund after confronting about it, and it's not their fault entirely since it's management. But realistically, theres no reason to go this cafe anymore when it's the only one in the entire bay area charging a dollar for a cup of water. You need to make that clear it's not free. Gives it a nice crunch and a salty/sweet element. Pistachio latte 4/5: Hubby really liked it. I don't like sweet coffees so I had to knock off one star. He even added an extra shot and it was still too sweet for me. It's not as rich in nutty flavor as I'd like but it was still good. Also slight artificial aftertaste. I've been wanting to come to this spot for such a long time. Cute storefront with beautiful designs on the inside. Cafe vibes with students doing their work inside. I ordered from the friendly cashier and we waited for our drinks. The barista finally called our names I believe he might have been making the food too so it was a little backed up. This location has gone through a few different coffee shops in the past couple of years, but I'm so glad to see a coffee shop with an emphasis on Filipino flavors finally serving the community. The drinks and breakfast offerings enticed me to pay a visit. The inside is large with plenty of space to sit and hangout. There is a small parking lot behind the building, but street parking available as well. The staff were friendly and greeted us with a smile. I ended up getting the Pistachio Iced Latte and the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Ube Pan De Sal. Pistachio Iced Latte 7/10 - coffee is pretty solid and the pistachio cream is a nice touch of nuttiness to the drink. This drink definitely heirs on the sweeter side so if you prefer your lattes more sweet then I would recommend this. I don't see too many places offering a pistachio latte so nice they have this on the menu Pan De Sal Breakfast Sandwich 9/10 - this was a great breakfast sandwich that was bursting with flavor. The texture of the egg is nice and soft which is what I prefer. I've tried the famous breakfast sandwich from Kasama in Chicago and this definitely reminds me of that sandwich. I remember it started as a pop-up food truck, and I'm glad they opened their own shop in Union City, taking over the former Hippies Cafe spot, which fits perfectly in the mini Filipino town. When I first walked in, there were so many desserts and lattes to choose from. I ordered the Ube latte, Calamansi Black Tea, and Ube Tres Leche. The Tres Leche was really moist and Ube-licious. This coffee and ube place is a Union City Filipino special -- none that can ever be replaced. I remember this being Hippies Brew (the Black owned business) before they closed down, but I'm actually glad the owners who operate Macs by Icky actually decided to lease this property and put it to good use -- doing event pop-ups, while continuing operations at their very home store. It's also very conveniently located right by Toppings Too, so there is actually quite a bit of space to find parking should you find yourself craving a bit of ube and a bit of kick of coffee. I ordered an ube latte -- in a large, and it did NOT disappoint, y'all. When I tell you there were more hints of ube syrup than there were in all of everything else, alongside the espresso shots, it tasted like it was destined for success. Street parking and shared parking close by. Not a place to order a simple dark roast but a nice pick me up. Can be expensive but for the size and specialty of the drinks/food, its expected. COFFEEHOUSE REPLACEMENT About two and a half years ago or three years ago I went to Hippies Brew. I enjoyed going there once and a while. Since that place closed I wasn't what this site would be. My sister texted me about Macs by Icky. The first time I came here I noticed it was the same spot as Hippies Brew. I ordered the Mac Nut Latte and ube pistachio cannoli, which out of the two items I was intrigued by. The ube didn't make the cannoli too sweet. The second time I came here I ordered an ube latte. For food I order two pandasal breakfast sandwiches. I'm not a fan of pandasals because despite of the size they tend to be heavy and dense. However I want to try how these pandasal sandwiches were. The toasted pandasal made the bread lighter. Even though these were sandwiches they are the best pandasals I ever eaten. Because of the pandasal I was sold on Macs By Icky. On my next visit I was surprised by another food item. I ordered the croffle, which is croissant batter cooked in a waffles iron. I never ate a croffle before so when I took a bite the buttery texture was evident. I was hooked. I prefer waffles over pancakes but after my experience at Macs By Icky I might prefer croffles over waffles. Finally I had to try halo-halo at Macs By Icky. There are two types. I tried each type on two different days. I ordered the OG halo-halo first as I thought the ube halo-halo works be too sweet due to the ube. I think this is odd for me to say but the OG halo-halo had a slightly savory taste due to the corn flakes - an item I don't see in traditional halo-halo. I still enjoyed the halo-halo. Then a couple of days later I tried the ube halo-halo. The ube wasn't too sweet after all. I felt the consistency in the ube halo-halo was thicker. Between the two halo-halos I prefer the ube halo-halo. During my visits I've enjoyed coming to Macs by Icky. OBSESSED!! I was in town visiting some friends and decided to stop by for some coffee before heading back home, and I'm so glad I did. Their menu had some interesting options, I seriously couldn't pick just one. Luckily, one of the super friendly staff members helped me out and recommended the banana latte with Ube soft top. I trusted his pick... and ended up ordering three drinks: the Ube latte, pistachio latte, and of course, the banana latte with the Ube soft top. He was totally right, the banana one ended up being my absolute favorite. To top it all off, he surprised me with a free Ube crinkle, and yes, it was just as good as everything else. I was so impressed (and so hooked) that I literally came back the same day right before closing to try more. This time around, I ordered the OG halo-halo, Ube halo-halo, corned beef pan de sal, chocolate chip cookie, and the Ube croffle. Since it's APIDA month I wanted to support an AAPI business in the area and I'm so glad I picked Macs! I've gotten cookies here before from Too Good To Go but it was my first time dining in. As a Filipino-inspired cafe, there are lots of interesting and yummy menu options available, including plenty of ube-flavored drinks and eats. They also have weekly specials which I thought was a cute touch. I decided to go with the POG Float, which was POG juice mixed with special cream - a unique and tasty treat! While I was able to snag a table near an outlet to work at, the place quickly filled up and there was plenty of hustle and bustle for the next few hours - it's definitely a place for the community. I saw families, kids, friends catching up, and lots of different types of patrons enjoying themselves, which made for a lively and vibrant atmosphere. I have been wanting to try out a few different items from Macs By Icky because all of the menu is so tempting. I ended up trying the ube tres leches cake slice, an ube pistachio ice cream taco, the ube soft serve and swirl with vanilla soft serve, and the finkle cookie. The cookie was 5/5, soft and you can taste the ube. The soft serves were also 5/5 on flavor and creaminess, my only suggestion is to train staff on how to properly serve the ice cream. Both soft serves I ordered were hollow in the middle and staff was unsure on how to pack it to go because they made it too tall for the lid, this is an easy fix. The taco was what initially made me want to try Macs By Icky, but the taco was rock frozen. I had to take it home and thaw it before I could try it, it was a 3/5. The 3 leches ube cake on the other hand was a 6/5! I am definitely going back to try the coffee and get more cake. read more
