They serve Richardson's ice cream. What's not to love? They have tons of flavors to choose from and a great variety of toppings too! We have been going here for decades and the ice cream is delicious with very generous sizes. The lines tend to get pretty long but they seem to move at a decent speed. As far as service goes, they always get it right. I think it depends on who's working as far as friendly service is concerned. Some of the kids are very nice, and some of the others... well not so much. It's cash only which isn't great but they do have an ATM outside. There is plenty of outdoor seating. Nothing pretty or exciting to look at while enjoying your icecream and it does tend to get buggy with all the lights but take it to go! It's worth the price. I didn't give 5 stars because the last two times we've gotten frappes it's been very disappointing. It tasted like we were drinking watered down milk. Mac's Dairy Farm has been a staple of Tewksbury's Route 38 for years. It has been in its current location for as long as I can remember in my 20+ years of growing up and living in Tewksbury and the kids I went to school with frequented here, however, I never had...until recently. I went for my first (could have been second) time recently, and it is your classic park and walk-up ice cream spot. The parking lot is a tad small, but there's a very large lot next door you can park and walk from as well. As you walk up there are picnic benches for you to enjoy your ice cream at after ordering- a decent amount of them. Mac's has a variety of flavors, but I always get the same thing at ice cream spots: either a chocolate or oreo frappe. I went with oreo this time and Mac's does not disappoint with their sizes. I think a large was a 32-ounce for either $10 or slightly less. Mac's does not disappoint as the ice cream tastes fresh and flavorful. The staff here are mostly local kids presumably from in-town and they're always very nice individuals. Staff that can give that sort of care-free environment that I feel is desired at ice cream joints are always appreciated in my books and you will most certainly find that here. Coming here at night as the cars pass by on busy Route 38 is an oddly stark contrast and yet peaceful environment nonetheless (probably peaceful because I wasn't one of the people driving.) Went here for ice cream with 2 other couples today. My husband and I only eat frozen yogurt, so we were glad to see "Mint Patty frozen yogurt" and other flavors that could only be from Richardson's, down in our area. We split a small cup, as we had just had a large Chinese luncheon! Our friends had hot fudge sundae, and other treats. Out for a walk with our dog who got overheated. We stopped at Mac's hoping to get ice cream and water for the dog. They only accept cash, which I did not see posted when I was looking online before starting the walk. Whatever, disappointing, but not the end of the world. I asked if I could please have some tap water for my dog, pointing to her panting in what little shade could be found. They said no. I needed to pay for it or buy something if I wanted it. I pleaded, I pointed at my dog and expressed my concern for her, I promised I would come back with cash after I got the dog back home. I acknowledged I should have grabbed water to bring with and that was on me, which is why I would come back with money, but please don't penalize the dog. Nope. They did not care the tiniest bit. To those who are angered by the cash only option at mac's dairy farm, you fooled yourself. This place is the best spot around for the price and value, and if you didn't know they were cash only you live and you learn and you continue to obey the rules of the great mac. Mac's is open year round for your sweet tooth needs and has a giant list of flavors (not Kimballs status, but not terribly far off) including frozen yogurt (my fav). While the kiddie may seem pricey it's always the size of most places small/medium. A small is really a large and so on. I always get jimmies to top my froyo, which they put both on the bottom of my cup, as well as top - jimmies in every bite people (to-go option). My two favorites are purple cow (black raspberry with white chocolate chips and dark) and coffee heath which has CHUNKS of heath throughout. This place always has a line, so be ready, be patient, and have cash fools. read more

They charge the same price for a pint of ice cream as for a 1/2 gallon. A half gallon is equal to **2 PINTS**. And it was $13 friggin dollars. Outrageous. I felt so ripped off. If it wasn't intentional, the woman would have made it clear that a pint is a 1/4 gallon, (but the price of a half gallon FOR NO FRIGGIN REASON) instead of saying "it's the same price, it's basically the same." Wow. I'm a connoisseur of ice cream. So I'll stop at lots of spots... Just for research of course! Stopped here and there were a couple of small groups at picnic tables out front. One person was at a window ordering, no other obvious windows open. I strolled to the list of flavors and took a few minutes to leisurely study. S The window cleared, I attempted eye contact with the fellow inside. Not happening. I've never seen a staff try harder to avoid my eyes. A refreshing treat on a summer afternoon! I visited with my parents and wife recently on a humid afternoon and Mac's definitely didn't disappoint. We each ordered a small - two HUGE scoops of ice cream - and three of us ordered their jumbo waffle cones (a must!). I really enjoyed my Moose Tracks ice cream - creamy vanilla with peanut butter cups and tons of fudge swirl. My wife's s'more flavor was also quite tasty. Our service was efficient and pleasant. Yes. I did get bitten by mosquitoes, but the ice cream was worth the wait. They could have used citronella candles outside or a bug zapper to help keep the number of bites down, but since Yelp warned us, we decided to try it anyway. I ordered a small cup made up of two scoops. One scoop was Almond Joy and the second was German Chocolate. I lived them both. My boyfriend had a small hot fudge ice cream sundae with two scoops of vanilla. It was not soft serve which I thought was funny. Thought soft served was assumed, but I guess not. We ate in the car at about 9:45pm. It took about 20-25 minutes to get through the line. Seemed short staffed. All in all it was delicious! Last time I was there, there were a hoard of mosquitos at the order/pickup area. Everyone is standing in a huge cloud of mosquitos swatting themselves and making comments. It would have been funny had I not been one of them. Also what's up with that 30 year old sign they got outside that needs restoration? It makes the place look like a dive. The icecream isn't bad but I'll drive a little farther to go somewhere that doesn't require standing in a cloud of mosquitos. I'm a little embarassed about my borderline obsession with the Mac's Mint Patty frozen yogurt . No visit to my parents is complete without a pilgrimmage to everyone's favorite strip-mall dairy farm. Mac's is also the only ice cream stand I've ever encountered that puts jimmies in the *bottom* of the cup, as well as on top of the ice cream. This might not sound all that amazing -- but wait until you've reached the melty bottom of a delcious frozen treat , and suddenly find a whole extra layer of crunchy chocolate goodness. The bad: The Owners are complete jerks who often didn't have the money to pay us cause the owners sister would steal our pay in order to support her gambling habit. It's not a very clean place. So this is more of me reminiscing about my childhood than it is a review, as I haven't been here since I was like ten. But back when I was in the single digit I always got bubble gum ice cream, and honestly I have no idea why. As a kid I thought it was like the greatest thing ever, but thinking back I'm really grossed out by it. You can't really chew gum while you're eating ice cream, right? So what I'd do was spit the giant chicklet pieces of gum (un-chewed) back into the cup and then have them all once the ice cream was done. I'm getting a little ill just typing about this. Never again will I eat bubble gum ice cream. The other thing that made us chuckle as a kid was always calling this place by the wrong name. Across the street is the Tew Mac airport. So we also called this Tew Mac's, but the problem was we often got the name wrong. We'd then call it Macs Tew which if you live in Billerica (like we did) was the same as Mac's Two, the 18 plus strip club where high school students would often run into their teachers. Nice. So overall, growing up this was a great place to go (especially when the mini-golf place was still open). I can't really see myself going now, but part of me wants to know if they still have bubble gum ice cream and if kids still order it up like we did back in the day. read more

When I lived in Wilmington for a year, Mac's Dairy Farm became a staple i the "what should we do tonight" blues. There really isn't much to do at all in that area, but I'll hand it to them for having some great ice cream. They serve Richardson's and have a large selection of the flavors that Richardson's offers, so you're bound to find something you like. Portions are large, and affordable, so a kiddie for $2 is more than enough! They also offer your usual frappes, sundaes, etc. and there's sorbet, sherbet, sugar free and light options for those with allergies or who are health conscious. My most recent favorite was almond joy with hot fudge. mmm. If you're in the area, don't get intrigued by the "Dairy Maid" up the street. They serve Hood (what?!) Take the extra 2 minute drive to Mac's and you'll be so glad you did. read more

They have a huge list of easily 35 to 40 different flavor varieties. They also have many different options on how to eat your yummy treat. Cup, cone, float, malt, etc....The other thing I really enjoyed about the Farm was that the portions were huge!! I mean monsters. I ordered 2 scoops, but one would have been enough. My gf and I both ordered 2 scoops. I had peanut butter chocolate and a scoop of mint. She had peanut butter chocolate and turtle. All were delicious. The cost for 4 huge scoops, one in a cone, one in a cup, was a whopping $8.34. Compare this to the $5 dollar scoop of gelato in North End, and you can see this is a great deal. Finally, I enjoyed sitting outside on one of their many picnic tables scarfing down my cone as it melted in the sun. One important thing to remember is make sure that you ask for a lot of napkins. I've been going to Mac's since I was a little kid and when I go back to MA to visit soon I will definitely stop by. Their smalls are the size of a traditional medium-large, and that is pretty awesome! If you are a fan of frozen yogurt, this is a great place because there are many options. I am a mint-lover so I always get mint patty froyo. As some reviewers have said, the ice cream comes from Richardson's, so it is New England family made dairy. You can get a whole pint of ice cream at the grocery store for what it costs to get a medium ice cream here. But I guess that's what you get when you go out for ice cream instead of buying it at the store. In any event, check out Mac's, they have a great selection of ice cream. I love the soft serve there. They only have jimmies for toppings, which is a little lame. I like the crunch coat and they don't have it. Also, they skimp a little bit on their sundaes. I love Mac's! It was the local place growing up and would consider driving to Tewksbury from Quincy this summer to indulge in some m&m ice cream. Portions are huge (small is two very large scoops) and the ice cream itself is so creamy and delicious that it's worth the semi inflated price that comes with it. I order a kiddie size here (1 scoop) which is more reasonably priced and no one there cares. Workers are all local high school kids but they actually do a great job of keeping the always huge line during the summer moving. They are open during the winter too!! love mac's dairy farm! growing up, every summer meant eating at the piccadilly pub with my grandparents and then walking across the parking lot to get ice cream for dessert. when i was little, my sister and i used to go nuts for bubble gum ice cream (with REAL pieces of gum in it!), but now i stick to the frozen yogurt. portions are humungo and cheap and (something that is incredibly important to me) they top your ice cream generously. i think i vaguely remember playing mini golf on these excursions as well - but, that could be due to some imagineering on my part, because the last time i was at mac's there was no mini golf in sight. anyway, mac's is a great little new england ice cream stand to visit if you're in the tewksbury area. read more
