From the ripping chairs on the deck to the floaters in all the drinks this place was rough.... fish battered thicker than a corndog, slimy lettuce in the Caesar and did I mention all drinks had residue in them. The outside porch, right by the Rogue River is peaceful. It's dog friendly, too. That's it. Apparently, the restaurant is under new ownership. Service was horrendous! The server was inexperienced and really slow. We had to get up to find help. Once our dinners arrived, they were stone cold! Do NOT order the Chinese chicken Salad. For $21.50 it's a bowl of lettuce, dry cooked chicken, a few mandarins and an awful pink dressing. I couldn't eat much of it. I hope they get their act together, as patrons around us were frustrated at the lack of service. Shady Cove is a small place, and they need the support of locals. read more

Had lunch with mom at Mac's Diner today. Food was good, service could use some work. We sat way too long before having our food order taken and the excuse from the waitress was "I didn't know I was supposed to be serving you". That tells me they need to do some major work on their communication between staff members. Great service with our drinks from kitchen staff and busgirl though. Prime dip for me was excellent and mom said her cranberry turkey was really good. Amount of food was borderline ok for price. Sandwich was a fair size but amount of side (tater tots for me) was a little on the skimpy side. Over all I'd still eat there again. read more

I ordered food to be picked up. I arrived when I was told to be there. My order I was told wasn't ready yet. I continued to keep waiting in the lobby. Finally 20 minutes later another person asked if I was being helped. I said I was waiting for my dinner. Burger and fries. She said there was an order that had been sitting on the bar. Well it was my cold dinner. Burger bun was soaked with juices. And not very good. Probably would have been better not sitting for a half hour. Disappointed for sure. It is a cool place with 50s memorabilia all around. And it's right on the river. Next time I'll eat there and not get it to go as they don't seem quite organized for takeout food. read more

I wouldn't have even known about this place if I hadn't nearly rear-ended a car that stopped short in front of me to pull into MAC's driveway. The restaurant is way in the back and cannot be seen from the roadway but there is a sign out front so I wound up stopping on my way back from Crater Lake. Glad I did! Amazing food and not the usual fare at all. I had the Ricky Ricardo which was very tasty. Never had a sandwich quite like it before. Fries were great and plentiful. Decent prices and generous portions. Service was slow to start with but once my actually waitress showed up, she turned out to be great. Very filling, satisfying meal. Inside and out there's decor scattered everywhere, really honing in on the old school diner and home sweet home vibes. Inside is bigger than you think, multiple different rooms to walk through, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Booths along the windows have views looking right onto the river -- sunlight reflecting off everything is lovely. It was mostly empty on the Saturday morning we visited, we were attended to quickly for seating but after that it took a while to flag anyone down for anything. We ordered the corned beef hash, bestest breakfast and French toast. While the food was mostly cooked well, overall it lacked flavor/spicing; adding things on yourself afterwards just isn't the same. But hey maybe it's right for you! It's a cute spot for a nice and simple, quiet breakfast on the river. read more

we went to macs on friday for the prime rib. it is a quaint place from the parking lot. cant even see the building from there. it is right on the river as well. i was confused when entering since the bar area is in a separate room and i wasnt sure where the dining area was. the interior was old. they have elvis memorabilia everywhere and the styling was too old. it could be super nice with a major overhaul. there is an outside area along the river, but they have plastic chairs like you see at walmart. they need to upgrade them. the parking area was pretty full so there was a fair amount of customers. we ate inside and the decor looks like its from the 70s. almost like a nightclub. nice views though. there was a hint of cigarette smoke maybe from the old carpeting. we ordered from the menu and what my wife got was not the same as what the menu stated. it was also in plastic dishes. they really could use something better. i got the prime rib and it was priced the same as a much better restaurant that was closer to my home. it was decent, a little salty. i asked for ceaser salad and they forgot it and gave me a tossed salad instead. the baked potato was good. the horseradish was awesome...really strong like it should be. it could be really nice with a majot makeover and some better food. we will not go back, sad to say read more

Only one server here. Waited 45 minutes for our hamburgers. The restaurant is hardly busy. Food came after about 45 minutes. The frozen burgers were overcooked dry and cold. The food is nothing likethey advertise. We will never come back here. I would give zero stars if I could. read more

What a great stop if you're in town. A classic diner in a cute stone house among the trees completely decked out with memorabilia. Booths sit right along the river for a great view while dining. The food is as you would expect from a diner - lots of omelets, biscuits and gravy - a heavy meal. We got the humongous cinnamon role for 5 of us to try and they aren't kidding with the description. We couldn't finish it, but it was delicious. Staff were friendly and welcoming! This is a must stop even more for the experience than the food. read more

My sister and I stopped in the other night for dinner. We had no idea it was sold. We both enjoyed our food, and the service was great. We sat in the bar area because the dining room was closed. I had the stroganoff and my sister had the chicken fried steak. We also had margaritas which were delicious I recommend continuing to support this restaurant and all local businesses. It's important to this small community. I understand change is hard but I will continue to give them my business when I come to town. read more

I don't mind a wait. This place is a disaster though. Customers waited 20 minutes just to be told they should have put there name on the list. Ok, then have a sign or tell people that. They try and shove the buffet and if you say no be prepared for a very long wait before they take your order. I don't know if they are understaffed or what. But if that's the case they should close off a section. There's just no way they can serve this many people at once. read more

Mac's is a throw back to the 1950's traditional diner. We enjoyed breakfast at the diner while in the area. I had the banana pancake, just one, but just one if more than enough for probably two people. It was the size of the dinner plate, fluffy, and packed full of actual banana slices. My husband attempted two of the buttermilk pancakes with sausage and did not come close to finishing half of them. I cannot imagine anyone finishing three as in the regular order. Our very sweet server assured us that the pancakes are good leftover but since we were traveling we did not take the leftovers to go. We wished we had known that the diner sat right on the Rouge River so we would have planned dinner and happy hour here the night before. The deck sits right on the river and has a great view. They also have a large lounge area with a bar and a pool table. While in the area, if you are looking for a great place for drinks, appetizers, or a good meal any time of day, Mel's is absolutely the best place in town. read more

Oh they have a good bar too! My brother in law fishes in Shady Cove and ate there seven times and all meals were excellent. read more

This place is right on the Rogue River which is really awesome. The food is average. And the smell. When you walk into the establishment, there is this awful smell. And the bathrooms smelled like something died in them. I had to hold my breath it was so bad. I'd go elsewhere for food in Shady Cove. The kitschy decor isn't worth the basic food and weird smells you have to endure. The location begs a better restaurant. read more

The food was good and came out relatively quickly. Loved the atmosphere. The only thing I did not like was the service. I waited for a while by the hostess stand to be seated while the restaurant was not busy at all. Three workers approached me and asked what I needed, which I found really odd because I just wanted to sit down so I could order food. Normally I don't complain about these things but it was just bizarre. I also had to ask for a menu once I was seated. It may have just been a weird day, so I would give it another chance because my food was delicious. read more
