I'm generally not a fan of the Department Store experience in general or shopping at Macy's in particular. Part of the latter is residual ill will after Federated killed off many revered names such as Marshall Fields and Meier & Frank. The other reason is that I find Sun Valley Mall just too overwhelming (inside and out in the parking lot) to carry on any sort of meaningful shopping experience. Just yesterday, Gayle and I stopped briefly in Sears to look at a fake Christmas Trees (they've gotten a lot better) and all I could think of the whole time was how soon I could escape and go Home. Gayle doesn't always sed it that way and is easily convinced by the huge discounts that a combination of a Macy's Card, Sales, and Coupons provide. At lot of her stylish clothing has come from these "Sales of the Season", which seem to repeat themselves often. Friends and Family anyone? A few months ago, we gave away our Living room Set to Gayle's Nephew who was just moving to SF for his first job out of College. She had grown tired of the style and colour, and was happy to let it all go for a family pittance. We made do with the what as left, but soon enough Gayle was itching for new stuff. I was a little hesitant because I wanted to wait and let our credit card bills even out. Finally and when I was in Portland one Weekend, she visited the Macy's Furniture Store and found something nice on sale. And with a few gift cards and me getting a Macy's Credit Card, we were able to knock the price down considerably, and with a year of free financing. The Living room Set was delivered last Saturday and all is very well. The Woman at Macy's was very helpful and did a great job with selection questions and squeezing out the last ounce of savings. Delivery was on time and professionally done. Most importantly, the Couch (etc.) looks great, fits well within the room, and is very comfortable. That's hard to beat although I'll still be happy to stay out of this Macy's as much as possible. read more

I like this store... But when I went there to buy all white Christmas tree they were not able to tell me the price. They displayed all trees in the store but they weren't for sale. I found it odd that you are selling an item and when people come to buy it your staff takes 1hr to find it and at the end tells you it's not for sale but will be the day after Christmas. Lol! The return department at Macys are not helpful at all. No greeting, very dry, unpleasant, If feels like at the customer service return center they're just there to work and are not happy to be there. I try to return some pants and I used my Macy's card, however the lady did not want to be bothered in anyway. I understand that there was no tax, however there is a record of what was returned. She didn't want to call the manager to help me out in this transaction. Poor customer service. We spoke to Bianca at Customer Service and she indicated that the system showed two in stock. Bianca went looking for the luggage set and was able to find the colored set my daughter wanted. I got dragged here to help a friend do some dress shopping. Now mind you, my mom works at Macy's but not this particular location, so I kinda know how a Macy's should be run, and this Macy's does not live up to expectation. First off, they don't carry Ralph Lauren, wtf? I guess we're too close to the ghetto to be having such clothes, second, when I politely asked a sales clerk in the dress section about it, she snarled at me and told me I needed to go over to Broadway Plaza. I was so close to snarling back at her, but I don't think my best friend or her husband would have been too thrilled. What happened to atleast pretending you like your job? Second, their juniors section is a mess and I saw a ton of dresses there that looked worn and returned, some of them flat out smelling like woolite! That and their workers socialize way too much and none of them appear to be hard at work. I must say I was pleasantly surprise in the Macy's purse department. Ann gave me some assistance on a purse that my wife wanted, it was a little out of my budget but she was able to locate some discounts and promotions which made the item affordable. The customer service that I received was attentive and caring, I could tell she wasn't just interested in selling me something but truly want to make the gift I was trying to give my wife just perfect. I moved to Pittsburg 15 years ago when this Macys store opened. This was my go to Macys. I like to shop where I live keeping my $$ in the city where I live is very important to me. I also make sure I purchase my cosmetics in this Macys. One Reason I give this Macys a poor rating the Plus size department has hardly any clothing. I have to drive to the Concord Macys to find most things. Clothes, Bras and night clothes are non at the Antioch Macys. Also, recently I went to the store to return an item that I purchased. I was asked by a very nice young lady would I like a box. I gladly accepted my 2 boxes. After this exchange I was going to purchase my Lancome. My Mother was going to get a couple of boxes as well. She was stopped by this rude Mgr. Nickie at the online pickup dept. She and I was told that we needed to make a purchase before she could get a box. First this was so very rude she made us feel like we were doing something wrong. Now I'm mad I went over and purchased my items from Lancome and walked back over to talk to Nickie and just clear the air and why I thought she was poor customer service. She came out and just proceeded to tell the young lady to give me a box instead of asking me was there any thing wrong or did I have a question. This is when I just let her have it and said I thought she was very rude. I tried to explain but she was so bent on trying to tell me store policy I had to just walk out. Personally, I believe this Macy's has a much better selection than the Macy's in Antioch and in Pleasanton. I got a nice faux fur coat there along with some other items. That said, I visited this particular Macy's at 4:30 on Monday, the first. I stopped over to put my name on the waiting list at the Urban Decay counter for the Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows. I then headed over to the Clinique counter to pick up the acne starter kit. Nobody was at the counter. I read through brochures while standing at the counter, played with the little display that tells you which skin care product fits your skin type and still, nobody came over. Finally I just walked over to the MAC counter (very friendly staff) to pick up a couple things (I had to buy it at this Macy's instead of the actual MAC store in the mall as I was paying with a Macy's EZ exchange card.) I picked up an indianwood paint pot for $16.50, and two shadows for $14.50/each. I went back to the Clinique counter and got no service... finally a lady came over there and gave me my starter kit (I think it was $32 total.) I came here on 4/29/15 to CHANEL COUNTER because I want to purchase Coco Mademoiselle perfume. I approached the counter and an OLD WOMAN WITH SHORT WHITE HAIR was watching the counter; she saw me looking around. She NEVER BOTHERED ACKNOWLEDGING MY PRESENCE, OFFERED HELP, nor introduced herself. It took me sometime to look for the fragrance I was looking for because the sample was hidden behind the counter. I walked a few times around the counter but she still never offered help until I asked for it. Then that was the only time she approached me, did not even smile, and on top of that she looked at me like I am just one of those kids who just wants sample and move on. When I asked for the perfume I wanted, she said the sample was hidden because "it walks around" That is fine, businesses need to save and protect their merchandise, right? What I did not like was her attitude, very DISCRIMINATING! So then I went on and asked her for the price difference from each size, she gave me prices, but I could tell she did not want to help me. She gave me a what-are-you-doing-in-this-counter look when I said, "oh I can't afford that price" Anyway, I got the 1.7 oz. She did not even ask me if I want a printed receipt or email or both. She just gave me back my credit card and did not even thank me. She was VERY RUDE and that lady does not deserve to work there! (on the receipt: 71067125 0052 5:11 PM 4/29/2015) Oh and one more thing, when I got home, I noticed at the bottom of the receipt (sent through email) it reads, "Free Tote Bag with your Women's Fragrance purchase of $85 or more." I never received the tote nor was I asked if I want a tote. Anyway, the point is, Macy's these employees that you have that you are claiming to be the face of your business need to go! There are other people out there who deserve to work at Macy's and will be happy to serve your customers. By the way, I ended up exchanging the 1.7 oz ($92) to 3.4 oz (~$122) at Macy's Richmond. I rarely come to this MEN'S Macy's much anymore since it seems as if it gets harder and harder to find something at Sunvalley that I like. But I would just like to break it down a little so that people who aren't familiar could get a sense of what it's like. Style - Most of the clothes now target a more urban look and feel. Their most popular sections are towards the Mall entrance, where they carry young men's clothing. Everything else tends to take a while to get re-stocked/ sold. Sizes - Ranges from 30's - 38's. Typical sizes. However I noticed it's getting harder to find a size on the smaller ends. Prices - Compared to the other Macy's around the area (Walnut Creek/Stoneridge/SF), they don't have many sales and when they do it's typically on the weekends and for not that big of a discount. Employees - There are always new employees there... I'm not sure what's going on with management. Typically I like going to the more experienced employees cause they actually know what's going on. Overall... it's okay. I tend to do most of my returns here for when I purchase something at Stonridge/SF but don't want to drive 20 minutes just to get a refund. read more

A front pocket zipper in my TravelPro roller bag got stuck. It was bought at Macy's in October. Their new policy is to only take it back if it less than six months old. Otherwise you deal with the manufacturer who has repair shops in San Francisco. Who has that kind of time? But the sales agent (Romanov) made an exception by calling the manager (Art). We will have a new bag shipped to us in four business days. Amazing. We shop at Macy's all the time and will keep doing so. Surviving in retailing depends on generating customer satisfaction. Wow I have not had good experience at all from Macy's, I called the other day to see about changing the delivery time and I was told I could not, so I kept the same day and time and I took off work early just to be at my house for delivery, it got to be at the end of my window time and so I called and I was told that my delivery was canceled without any communication to me about it, at this point i am so livid, I was told bc my merchandise was not at the place for pick up!!! They actually decorate their pieces to make you see what it would look like in your home. A little expensive but you have to make sure you research brand and quality before you make a big purchase. This review is for the shoe dept. I was able to easily find an associate to help me when I found shoes I wanted to try on. But you have to wait forever for someone to get the right size for you in the back. Idk why, it is always like this. I finally got my shoes and decided to buy two of them. However, one of them was clearly returned since there was no wrapping or paper stuffing in the shoes, and the shoe bottoms were clearly worn. I asked if the associate could check in the back for another pair in my size - hopefully one that is not clearly returned. It was marked at full price ($145); if I am going to pay full price for something, I would like to buy a completely new one, esp if it is $145! She checked and they only had one other pair but it was even more worn than the one I originally tried on. So I told her that I would just order them online so they get shipped straight from the warehouse. The associate was trying to keep the sale in house and asked if she could order them for me in the store. This is where all the trouble began and caused this 1 star review. I told her I wanted to order them for pickup in store and not delivered to my house (I am never home and ppl tend to steal pckgs during the holidays). She was like, no prob, we can def do that. But after the order, the pickup date on my receipt today. I asked her how I could possibly get a new pair from the warehouse in 1 day shipping, specifically it was listed for pickup later today when it was already 4PM. Fast forward and three associates later, the program ordered it so that it would just have whatever was in-house for me to pick up, which was what I was trying to avoid the entire time. The associate didn't think this through, clearly. She couldn't cancel it, but another associate told me it wouldn't charge until I picked it up so I could just not pick up the order and not get charged. This sounded completely wrong to me. I checked my account right then and there (thank god for modern technology) and, low and behold, it charged! The only thing they could do was call the number on my receipt and try to cancel the order. They didn't even have their own expedited internal number to call - they had to use the customer number on my receipt. This just spiraled completely down hill as I was met with complete incompetence from everyone. The associate had to pass the phone to me b/c only the actual customer could talk to the phone agent. First, the agent couldn't find my order via the order number on the receipt. So she had to look it up via my phone number. Then, she said she could not cancel it b/c it was past the 15 min time limit allowed to make modifications. But the timestamp on the receipt was 4:01PM and it was 4:13PM when I check my phone and we had been on the phone since before then. Just absolute stupidity. Phone operator then tells me she is trying to cancel the order but the cancel button is not working. I essentially argue with her for another 5 minutes and then I see an email from Macy's that my order was successfully cancelled. Just a hot mess. I check my account again and see a credit pending. FINALLY, my order was cancelled and money refunded. Completely unnecessary drama for what should have been a quick and easy purchase. Remember, the store associate offered to order the shoes for me. I was happily ready to just order it online when I got home, which is what I have to do now regardless. And without the stress! read more

I've had a great experience in this Macy's. Men's and Home are awesome, customer responsive and attentive, and helpful. The only downside I have had is the Women's Shoes. The sales people were very unhelpful and stubborn and when I explained my situation they acted like it was a hassle to try to help me - whereas I had just come from the men's store and explained the same situation and they were so easy to work with. The selection in this store is much better than Walnut Creek. The interesting thing is you would think they would be comparable since Walnut Creek has Nordstroms and Neiman. read more

Went yesterday to pick up my curbside order only to find that there are two pick up locations. One is in the street where I'm supposed to just sit next to the curb and the other spot is on another side of the mall since there are apparently two Macys stores at this mall. Wish I would have been told that before I placed my order...anyways, I waited almost 15 minutes in the street outside the macys door after checking in before someone came out and told me to go to the other side. Fine, I was pissed but I did it. Got there, parked and then called the store. Spoke to someone twice, was told they were bringing out my items then continued to sit there for about 40 minutes while nobody came. Finally went inside and saw a super long line where the returns happen. One clerk helping all these people DURING COVID by the way. I was not about to risk getting infected so I asked the clerk where do I grab my curbside since nobody ever brought it out. She said "You have to park outside" Wow. I said I did that and called but nobody ever brought it or is answering the phones anymore. She then told me "Well I don't know." I said great and left. I don't blame her. I blame management for this mess and I wont be picking up that order or placing another macys order for a very long time. Let it cancel on its own and I'm going to Nordstrom. After perusing several different furniture websites in search for a large, grey colored sectional; I decided to check out Macy's site. I stumbled upon a few couches that struck my interest; which eventually brought me to visiting the actual store. I went by myself the first time, to potentially see some of the couches I had viewed online. I was greeted and assisted by a sales rep by the name of " Gregory". Gregory was awesome! I gave him an idea of what I was looking for, and he was able to show me and lead me to a few couches that were in the realm of what we wanted. I found one that really called to me - it was called the " Rhyder" sectional - beautiful light grey color, chic looking, and most importantly, super comfy! Definitely a must with my hubs! I told him I would bring my hubs back to check it out which I did that weekend. Needless to say, my husband fell in love with the couch and we were sold! The purchasing process was smooth and easy. And, they just happened to receive the exact one we wanted in their warehouse in L.A., so we were able to receive this beauty in our house in less then two weeks! And, to add to the overall great experience, the delivery guys were super professional and friendly! They got the couch in quick and efficient! I am definitely not a fan of a lot of the customer service provided or lack there of, in Macy's clothing, but Greg set the standards to a higher level! If your in the market for some quality furniture, give Macy's a shot! And ask for Greg! Now just waiting for some more furniture to be delivered to complete our house! read more

I am a plus-size girl. I am fat. I am voluptuous. I have rolls. I have thunder thighs. I have cellulite. I have stretchmarks. I am the very definition of fiercely fabulous. That all being said, the Macy's department store at the Sun Valley Mall makes me feel uncomfortable to the point where it messes with my self-esteem. Example: I shop in the junior sizes because a lot of what they carry fits me and is trendy. I've seen the women's section. It's not that trendy. I'm 25, I need to be on point and look amazing... but junior sizes come with a catch if you're fat: limited selection. So I pulled out my limited selection of clothing from the messy racks, stepped over clothing laid out on the floor carelessly, and waited in the dressing room line for someone to help me to my stall. Thin girls poured in from everywhere and was immediately helped, but me, with my limited selection of dresses and tops impatiently waited for someone to help me. Finally I got up enough courage to say, after the 16th girl passed by me (and yes, I was in line), "Hey. I'm waiting for a dressing room too. Is anyone go to help me?" One of the dressing room employees looked at me and said, "Oh. I was wondering what you were doing here." Because obviously holding my limited selection of dresses and tops in my arms among the other teen girls and women holding their selections of dresses and top was no indication that I was waiting in line for a dressing room. Please. I go into my dressing room and it's tiny. Really tiny. One dress on, gross. Two tops down, unsatisfactory. I finally try on one top and can't see it in the mirror in my dressing room because it's mega dirty. I've never seen a mirror that dirty before and I didn't want to make a complaint so I thought, I'll just walk outside my dressing room and check it out in the huge mirror at the end of the hallway. As I'm walking out I hear a dressing room employee say very rudely and obviously trying not to laugh, "F****ing hefers." The employee she was talking with said, "Ouch. My eyes!" and then giggled. Because you know, being a fat person in Macy's means you get no respect. Means you don't receive any decency. I got changed in my clothes and left in tears. This is why this location gets 2 stars from me when it really should get ZERO. The makeup counters. Most of the people working at the makeup counters are helpful and very knowledgeable of the product without being pushy or overbearing. I love the ladies at Estee Lauder counter. read more

My mom and I did our part to stimulate the economy today -- by way of Macy's and on my dad's birthday nonetheless. My dad was elsewhere in the mall. He never wants to watch my mom and my shopping endeavors. What guy in their right mind would? My mom went to the Estee Lauder counter to get a compact. Not only did she get a new compact, but she got a new perfume, and one of those gift set makeup deals - "buy a fragrance and get this pretty bag full of makeup for $19.99." She's a sucker for those! As for me, I bought a new Guess purse. I've used the one I've had for the past two years -- way past due for an upgrade. Can't wait to retire the one I had, and start using my new one. Yay! Shoe sales were decent and oh so tempting (Silver sparkley Coach sneakers for 60 bucks anyone?) but the angel on my shoulder shouted over and over, "Just say no Grace...just say no!!!!" Something I didn't like: - Although the shoe section has an extensive collection and some good sales, I really didn't care for the service. I needed a pair of simple black boots for a play that I am in. I stopped by after work and they were not particularly busy. I had to hunt down a salesperson. He came back and said rather curtly, "want to try these on?" Um, yes. Who doesn't try on shoes before buying them? He then proceeded to set the shoebox onto a seat and walk away. I tried them on and then wandered around some more. I found another pair of boots that I wanted to try on and hunted down another salesperson. When I was ready, he offered to ring me up. When he saw that I had two boxes, he told me that he would have to ring them up separately because I was "already being helped". No, I really wasn't being helped. This store sucks Understaffed. Unorganized. Lacks the designer brands they used to carry, especially in impulse. They git rid of the chanel counter. Fragrance women are pushy. I always have to ask fir the free gifts with purchase. Tonight i came in 10 minutes before closing to return sunglasses at their sunglass hut. The sales associate (young asian girl) told me she wouldn't do it since her cash drawer was counted. I told her uhhh you aren't closed and I'm not making another trip!!! She rudely did it. read more

Does anyone work here? Every time I go in to shop and I need help, I can never find a sales associate. No one on the registers, no one walking around, no one anywhere. It's like a ghost town. I think I have even seen a tumbleweed roll across the floor. It does have a decent home section though (even if you can't find anyone to ring you up)... much better than the one in Walnut Creek. read more
