I received the worst service this evening at the register. While returning an item I had my hands full and placed the item and the lady quickly told me I was unable to return it because it didn't have a tag. I then showed her where it was located and then she proceeded to tell me I couldn't return it because there was some dirt at the bottom- there was nothing and whatever she was implying was from being out and other people trying it on. She was visible mad I was returning it when her coworker did not agree with her and as I walked away she loudly called her coworker over and said "look at this joke of return" while I was still present. She had an impression of me the second I asked for a return and did not care to provide any good service to me. She could have denied by return but because it was in good condition and nothing concerning she took it. It's the fact that she had to make me feel little in that moment that is the reason people like that should not work there. She has brown her, and heavy eyeliner. I think they are over priced and the salesman goes by David (Jose) on sales receipt he is very pushy. He told me my credit card was declined so I gave him another one. I got charged on both and now he is beware of this place!! I was sold a eneo red light therapy for your face 1922 with a lifetime warranty. I took it back for the me into trying the new one and the price they charged me was $1600 which you can buy them on Amazon much I did dispute it with my bank on the credit card charge and I'm going to keep bothering the store until they give me my money back. Not the nicest Macy's I've been to but it gets the job done -- maybe resembling Kohls a bit more than the most upscale Macy's locations in Chicagoland. If you're looking to get a good deal this location feels like it has a bit larger section for Backstage and Last Act than some other stores, though the Hawthorn Mall location still has more deals available. The store itself looks bright and clean, with everything well stocked and attractive looking displays. There were a few areas that could've been setup more neatly, and some misplaced items that could've been returned to the correct spots. There aren't a lot of extra staff walking around to help guests find items, however the logical arrangement makes it pretty easy to find items yourself. read more

Macy's is the one clothing store that I like shopping at. My husband and I came here and immediately went to the Backstage area of the store. I love looking through the selection to see what bargains I can find. I ended up leaving with much more than I expected. I found great deals on shoes, socks, underwear, and holiday items. This is a great place to shop for Christmas gifts. The only negative was that the fitting room in the area was roped off. I highly recommend Macy's, especially the Backstage area, for great bargains! read more

The Gurnee Macys store is absolutely disgusting . Not sure what happened but this use to be a favorite spot to shop for trendy, classy clothes for plus size women and others. It has now turned into a T-shirt and jeans casual variety. You have to hunt through all the other departments to try and find nice plus size dresses or trendy casual outfits by INC, Calvin Klein, Vince Camino, Anne Klein, etc. now all I see are old lady sweatshirts, jeans, and t-shirts ... seriously Macys this is the best you can do? The gurnee store is particularly filthy! (See pics below). I was disgusted to see this quality of a store in Gurnee. We would be better off shopping at Target, TJ Maxx or Marshall's, at least the stores would be cleaner and neater. Be aware, you walk into this store and on every single rack there is a sale sign. Most of them say 40% to 50% off. Do your homework. I went into the kitchenware section looking for knives. They had a Chicago Cutlery set for $199 dollars. Original price said $279. After looking it up on Amazon the same exact set was $129 on sale with the original price of $149. This is a ripoff joint if you ever seen one. They raise the price to mark it down to make it look like you're getting a deal. When you can go to Walmart and still get it cheaper than Macy's sale price. I just used the knives as an example. We were in this store for over an hour and I compared several items with the same results. Be smart and do your homework.. read more

The store at Woodfield 2 stores in the same space. The one in the basement has discounts, but sometimes includes things from upstairs that are marked as discount but not actually discounted. The one upstairs has 3 times as much clothing in it as could possibly fit on the clothing racks. This is down from 5 times as much a few months ago, but is still way over crowded and quite difficult to find garments in an appropriate size as a result. Biggest reason for the awful review though is the credit cards. We had a Macy's card just over 4 years ago; service and website were so bad we cancelled it, but couldn't get the store to delete the cards from their system. Last month we made the mistake of accepting over a $100 discount to open a new card in return for a promise from the clerk that now it is easy. It is not, it is HELL. Can't pay the card online because the old cards are in the system. Takes nearly an hour to reach a human via phone who can't solve the problem so hangs up on you. Takes nearly an hour to reach a second human who can't solve the problem then transfers you to tech support. Tech support sends your spouse 4 texts that say "We'll NEVER call or text for this code" while on the call asking for the code! After two hours on the phone it appears the problem may be resolved in a few days. read more

Went to Macy Gurnee mills for summer clothes . Very sad to say the least. Looks like a second rate junk store for sure. They even have chips, pretzels and an assortment of junk food. In the entire center of the store all clearance with clothing on the floor and thrown all over. Heart breaking to see our one and only department store go down to this. I spoke to one of the only 3 customer service reps who was extremely rude and caustic. I can't imagined what has happened to this store which one time was a classy shop. This Macy's was recently built in 2013 and is a giant department store! It was another weekend for me just shopping at Macy's. I decided to come to Gurnee to see if I could find some unique clothes I normally wouldn't find in Cali. To say the least, this Macy's had a lot of deals, they have a last chance section in the back; very well organized by size and it wasn't a totally clusterf*ck! After looking around for a while I finally realized I would have to go find someone to help me I went a few counters over and Interrupted a few workers conversations. The girl who was going to help me was nice but said she couldn't really answer any questions and no one was there yet from Clinique. What? Annoyed, I left and drove to another Macy's. This store along with Hawthorne in the Vernon hills Illinois location have gone downhill in the last couple years. It's unkept, unorganized and they have a poor selection of merchandise. Much of the merchandise they do carry is cheaply made in China. How about supporting the USA and carrying better quality? The only way I shop at Macy's is online; their shopping time is not bad and usually comes ahead of the date given; their stores are a mess with unorganized clothing racks and shelves; makes you feel like you are shopping at a resale stores. My husband and I ran in there today because he needed a sport coat. We wandered around for a while until we found the department. When we finally got there, of course, not a single person around. We found what we wanted but they didn't have his size. We had to again find someone who was reluctant to help us and asked if any other stores in the area had it. He told us the stores that did and that they only had one. I asked if we could put it on hold, he said "you'll have to call". Having been a store manager for almost ten years, I know that a business can't survive without customers. And there is plenty of other option out there. They have like...no people working here. I wanted to see some watches and there was one lady for 3 or 4 jewelry areas. I waited about 15 minutes for her to be free and then I wandered to see if someone else could help me. I then found one other lady and upon asking her for help, she just tells me no. I asked her why she couldn't help me and all she said was "she's over there" and pointed at the lady who was still busy with another customer. This lady was literally doing NOTHING and proceeded to watch me while I waited another 20 minutes for the original busy lady. After waiting for so long, I ended up giving up and leaving, extremely disappointed and annoyed that I had wasted so much time there. The new super sleek Macy's in Gurnee Mills transforms the former outlet mall into a full line mall. Everything is on one floor, with efficient use of space, and a full assortment. The new Macy's anchors a new wing at Gurnee Mills that has full priced stores with a sleek new look. The only complaint I have is the Frango's section needs to be bigger. This little endcap does little justice to the 7th floor devoted to Frango's at the State St. Macys. Almost forgot, my favorite part of the new Macy's is the in-store Starbucks! This new Macy's is supposed to change Gurnee Mills Mall from an outlet center to a mall with full price options. It is new, and it contains many of the standard Macy's lines from Alfani to Calvin Klein and Dockers. The reason I'm ambivalent about this new addition is that the available merchandise is so generic. It's a very basic Macy's. It does not have the same options available at Macy's in Hawthorne, Northbrook or Old Orchard. It's more downscale. That's fine. It's not to say that Macys offers inferior products, but this one is inferior to its neighbors with regard to merchandise. They do not contain a full line of cosmetics, either. It's just the basic major brands. The best part about Macy's is the sales, so the reality is that you will be able to shop here with coupons during sales periods and find this merchandise at near outlet prices. Otherwise, you can find practically the same merchandise in the mall at some of the same outlets for the brands they carry at this store, like Kenneth Cole, Nautica, Nike and Tommy Hilfiger. There is one mini-perk, and there is a new Starbucks in the store. Coupled with the other one in the mall, the one in Target, Dominicks, on Dilleys Road on on west Grand, now we have 6 in Gurnee. Overkill if you asked me. My motto is "why pay retail?" I'm inclined to add, why then shop here? read more

Nastiest public restroom I have ever seen. You can smell it before you see it. An employee entered while I was trying to find a clean stall. So I was told today by a store employee at the Gurnee, IL Macys to "GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM". I have been a loyal Macy's card holder for 22 years. I took a shirt back into the store at Gurnee Mills, Gurnee IL as the security tag had been on since I bought it for my husband at Christmas. I did not realize the security tag was still on till I went to wrap it christmas eve. Regardless, it was left in back of closet, clearing out and realized I had never taken it back to have tag removed. So today I went in. I used my Macys card, Tammy said I could not take back the shirt. I told her did not want to just the tag removed, my proof of purchase was on my Macy's card. She was defiant and rude, so I asked that a manager assist. When the manager was helping me, who by the way did not have a problem removing the tag for me from my purchase because of a Macy;s employees' mistake of not removing it in the first place. Tammy commented that anyone could steal a shirt and bring it back in the store. I told her that was in inappropriate thing to say in front of a customer and this point she very kindly told me to "Go back to where I came from" Store Manager Michelle King, told me she would take her off the floor!!!!! Apparently she was given a warning only. This is totally unacceptable, Michelle the store the store manager did not even apologize just that she would take Tammy off the floor. Tammy should not be working in customer service. In the words of your Senior VP of Diversity "It is crucial for Macy's, Inc.'s success to grow our relationships and deepen brand loyalty with our diverse core customers. We do so by focusing on our workforce, marketing, communication, supply chain and strategic community partnerships. Reflecting inclusion in these operations is an essential part of our business model." Obviously this model is not filtering down to employees at the store level. I am the one now feeling bad, feeling like I did something wrong after 22 years of loyalty. I will not shop at Macys again and will be canceling my card. read more

This particular Macy's is a fraction the size of a typical Macy's. It really goes in theme with the Gurnee Mills bare-bones outlet store theme. I shop mostly on line but go to pay my bill and check out sales. As always the sales people always look un-happy. As a manager in retail for many years that is a big surprise...how can customers be happy shoppers when the sales people look like they hate their jobs? Try to get anyone to help...good luck. They are never at the registers....there are just not enough associates. Nice clean, bright store but no customer service what so ever....today I tried to call to ask a question on a dress I saw the other day.....no answer in that department, and held on for the longest time....so it was obvious no one was in that department...which again is typical....and companies complain about sales being down....think about it. read more

There is music piped throughout the store, and there is a make-up counter that is blaring a different music genre. Very annoying, especially since I had to wait at the Clinique counter for a while. Side Note: I just moved back to the area, and for some reason, this Clinique couldn't look up my "colors" that I have purchased in another state.
