I made an appointment with their stylist, Matthew was AMAZING! I completely lack style, my children hate to shop and are hard to dress. But Matthew hooked us up. He did all the selecting, they tried things on, and left with about 6 tops and 6 bottoms for two children for under $350. Big recommend! Will be back! Matthew is AMAZING! The higher rating goes to the lovely employee who did my makeup, Clarissa. If it wasn't for her I'd be giving a lower rating due to over priced products and an unstaffed department. That poor girl only had ONE other employee working with her on a Saturday evening. I made an appointment months ago to have my makeup done for a party and was in a time crunch. The department was pretty busy with customers and she was already doing another woman's makeup while multi-tasking with other customers. She assured me that she'd finish my face within 30 minutes and was totally on point. I felt so bad for her being extremely understaffed but she handled it SO well! My advice to Mac is it's better to be over-staffed than under. There were a hand full of annoyed customers throughout this process and still this girl was able to handle it. read more

First of all, I love Macy's. My family and I have been shopping at Macy's for most, if not all, of my life. This review is for the cosmetics department. Specifically, for a young lady in the Tarte area of the cosmetics department. I purchased a Tarteist eyeliner back in April. The product itself meets all of my needs; however, I may have gotten a dud because the tube container that it come in broke, rendering it essentially useless. Knowing Macy's exchange policy, I knew that they would be happy to work with me on it. The first two young ladies were helpful enough, except when they realized that I did not bring the brush that came with the eyeliner. There was nothing wrong with that part of it. She, at first, did not want to exchange the eyeliner because I was missing the brush and because "all return items must be in saleable" condition. First, this was not a return; this was an exchange for a defective product. Secondly, why would a used, broken item be resold? I asked to speak to someone else, and she was more than glad to get someone for me, and it was fine. As soon and she walked away, though, another young lady began to argue with me about what "saleable condition" means. I asked why they would even want to resell a used cosmetic (Yuck!), and she took a very sassy tone with me and even raised her voice at me. I told her she didn't need to raise her voice, and she snapped back and said that I didn't need to raise mine, which I never did. I asked for her name and her name is Sitara. Richard, a manager, came and explained that he was going to do the exchange for me. I told him that the first two ladies I spoke to were kind and helpful, but unfortunately, Sitara was not. He completed the exchange, and as soon as Richard walked away, Sitara was rude to me AGAIN saying that she did not sass me. I told her that I was her customer and that she needed to watch her tone with customers. She told me I needed to watch mine. She also said something to the effect of: "Oh, so I'm just supposed to change my whole personality to work here?" I said, "Absolutely, you're in customer service!" I spoke to Richard about her again on the way out. All in all, I'm glad that he was able to do the exchange on the defective product, but I am just floored by Sitara's attitude. It will be a long time before I shop for cosmetics at Macy's again. read more

I'm a customer for over 30 yrs here in monterey and other Macy's store in other states like Hawaii , New York and Texas . I usually go to this stores when traveling for vacation . I spend thousands of dollars on furniture, rugs fine jewelries , and designer bags here in monterey store It used to be fun to shop here but recently Customer service is so bad . Sales ladies has no customer service skills . Very poor service . Seems like some of them are not in the mood serving customers which shows in their faces . Worst customer service ever! I went into Macys at Del Monte Shopping Center and went to the Channel make up counter to ask about eye shadow make up and was told that she would not apply any eye shadows to my eyes without a 3 item purchase! How can I know what to purchase without the young lady putting the items on my eyes to see how they look. She didn't have a name tag on, but was quite pretty Latina young lady who was more interested in having a conversation with someone older family member or friend that she knew than to help me. I know this as the other lady waited for her the whole time I was trying to get her to help me find an eye shadow that would look nice. She told me to go to the Mac counter instead and said they would charge me 50.00 there to try any eyeshadows....what kind of customer service has Macy's Del Monte Shopping Center stooped to--at least at the make up counters? read more

So sad this place used to be happening and I remember running around while my Mom shopped her tail off when I was a youngin'. I even got my first round of stitches here when I was about 3 or 4 years old when my shoe strings got caught in the escalator right when I was about to be let off smashing my chin into the hard floor. I still loved coming here after that incident and there even used to be a candy store on the C (Cellar) Floor. Oh those were the good old days. Today... I don't even know what floor I'm supposed to shop on... well I figure I'm tool old for the junior section so I go to the top floor which is broken down into 4 usually... an intimate section (bra, underwear, pjs), business-y (Ralph Lauren blouses and button-ups), cocktail/evening attire and casual chic (BCBG, 7 for Mankind etc...) Well there isn't much of a distinction on the top floor anymore, most of the stuff is StyleCO., a bunch of random new names, there isn't an evening wear section (unless it moved downstairs) and it's just blah blah blah. I didn't find anything that I wanted which is unheard of. No wonder why my "secret" parking lot (conveniently located by Energia) had 5 cars in it tonight at 7pm and the whole front side lot (by Macy's Furniture store) was mostly empty. So sad. The only reason why I would visit would be to visit one or two of the make-up counters and there were a few watches I would sport but then again watches should be timeless. Even the shoe section was very weak. I barely saw a shoe that I had to have. I think maybe they should look into hiring new buyers for each department. That would be a good start. read more

Everytime I go here, I receive the very worst customer service. I'll knock out a couple of my visits in just one review. I went after a long day of mommydom to buy a pair of cute shoes, something I haven't had the chance to do, literally, in years. There were about 5 or 6 men that worked in the shoe department just standing around talking. I picked a pair that I wanted to try on and wandered around looking for someone to help me. They were just talking with one another and even though I said excuse me a couple times, one of the guys just looked at me but kept right on with his conversation with his co-worker. Yeah I get it, I looked like I wouldn't be great comission or something (dressed in mom jeans, t-shirt and flip flops, hair a ponytail and probably with baby spit up all over... I was only 6 weeks out from having a baby. But I wanted cute shoes, dammit!) One guy finally and reluctantly helped me. He dropped off the shoes I asked for and then left. I ended up wanting to try on another pair and had to search for him again. I already felt so discouraged and not pleased with my changing post-baby body and so was really sad there. I bought a pair of $50 shoes and left, really really sad. I don't know why I expect Nordstroms' level of customer service from any other department store because I never get it. Actually, the ladies in the home goods department downstairs are very nice. I had a concern with the knives that are left on display without any kind of safety features and the lady I spoke with went right to her manager to let her know I was concerned. I mean... it's not even in a special knife section that kids won't go into. There are knife blocks in full reach and view of small children, they are sharp and not tethered either. That's dangerous!! Last, I went another time to go to the Brow Bar. We got there at 5pm, hardly closing time, on a weekenight. The lady who does it is apparently gone for the day by that time. The lady who told me she was gone for the day was incredibly rude, and I asked when she'd be back... "I really don't know. You could call." me: :Well do you have a business card I could call?" (her:) "Ummmm, no, but like, you could call the store and ask for it." Yeah thanks but no thanks. Who do you think goes to Macys to get their eyebrows done anyway? Moms who are in a hurry and want to feel good about themselves while at the same time not spending too much time or too much money away from their children! Be open at 5pm people, be open until your doors shut, actually. You're a department store, not a specialty boutique! I don't know why people keep giving this Macy*s bad reviews. I have always had a good experience here. Specifically, the customer service in the shoe departments is great. We have shopped in both the womens' and mens' shoe departments and the sales associates are very professional, and very attentive. I am aware that Macy*s management treats the employees like crap, and so it's all the more amazing that the sales associates are so helpful here. They really are professional, and they do their job well. One of the coolest things is the clearance rack in the men's section. I just bought a pair of 75 dollar Adidas running shoes for 25 bucks! What a deal! Let me tell you, the sales associates in the shoe departments here are a hundred times better than then dummies they have working over at Big 5 in Monterey. Totally and utterly incompetent staff! The staff member didn't tell my wife that the Lancôme products she just purchased were on "Pre-sale" until after she paid. Which meant that she couldn't take them until the pick-up date. Then she told us the wrong pick-up date. When we finally came back on the correct pick-up date. Macy's had sent the products back to the warehouse because they couldn't keep products on their floor for more than 2 weeks. And on top of this all they had terrible customer service and made no attempt to right the situation, other than refunding our money. From experience working there in 1996 and again in 2009, i can honestly say i ONLY go there because of the Sale Prices and plethora of coupons Macys issues everywhere, not just monterey! but they rarely have the merchandise pushed in the catalogs- so dont expect to find everything that is pictured as advertised! No matter what BAD Customer Service happens, just make a BIG FUSS and they'll fix it..... on that note: WASH ANYTHING you BUY Here BEFORE USING IT!!!!! to promote good customer service, they OFTEN take back USED/WORN clothing/shoes. makeup & jewelry are the only departments that are Sticklers for POLICY details and say NO to used returns. You'll be left mostly to your own devices finding things in any clothing department. However, the personal shopper (if they still have one) worked out of the Ralph Lauren area is a wonderful service. Fitting rooms are typically a DiSASter, I would often walk into a fitting room to find myself knee-deep in clothes, half-inside-out, some rehung inside-out! Nightmare! In the juniors dept, they have fitting room attendants to reduce Theft- not to help customers. I find it exceptionally inconvenient to be limited to trying on 8 items at a time. I do NOT want to get undressed and redressed as many times as it would take to actually try on all the items i want to! :( the sale prices can be kick-ass! coupons are even better! IF and only IF they APPLY to what you want to buy..... and HINT: when they say BETTER BRANDS....they mean ANY Brand They FEEL Like EXCLUDING so it can be a pain finding items that do apply......and if you dont have a coupon already-----ASK an employee! they often keep them at the register but you usually have to ask....Like i said BIG FUSS, you get your way. read more

Okay, so I am perplexed for this review because we're in Monterey. I am not from Monterey. And maybe Monterey citizens don't need make-up because they are by the water, they probably eat organic, and their active lifestyle makes them beautiful. But on the first day of 2010, we decided to venture here because my friend needed foundation. I was hungover, and shopping sometimes can be the best cure. So I obliged. However, the people of Monterey cannot excuse the make-up artist we encountered here. Upon, three groups of people that approached the once empty counter, she became frazzled and couldn't multi-task. Really? It made me wonder, can you really put a face together? Duh. I think she was hungover, because she said she "didn't look her best." If I was the manager of your counter, you'd probably have been fired for saying that. There could have been an eloquent way of saying that (maybe, for being in the beauty industry) but she failed miserably. I just thought less of the situation as the experience furthered itself. It's like letting a person with a bad weave, cut your hair. But really, she couldn't be any less into it. She's lucky that we were here on the recommendation of an ACTUAL make-up artist and my friend dropped some money on that account. Otherwise, that cosmetologist wouldn't have any commission. The next/closest Macy's to carry Lacoste is Valley Fair in Santa Clara. So if your boo is preppy, might as well order online. FURNITURE: Terrible customer service. The employees are rude and not helpful. We purchased a couch from them told them how the couch would have to be delivered into the house and was promised it would be no problem. The couch arrived 2 months later and they refused to deliver the couch the way we had already agreed on. The manager was an asshole and completely useless. They suggested we now pick up the couch on our own and move it, and they would give us a gift certificate. Bullshit. My mom who recently had surgery, rearranged the entire house, and when she was done she was told they would not deliver the couch leaving us with a furniture-less house. The manager's solution did absolutely nothing, and he had no sympathy whatsoever. PLEASE GO THRU A DIFFERENT STORE, THEY SUCK! I wouldn't even give them one star. read more

I went last night (June 21st) to buy a couple Ray Ban glasses. The woman who was behind the cashier did not look at me once or talk to me. As I was finishing selecting which glasses I wanted, I saw the lights dim. (The store was closing in a few minutes) I've worked retail when I was younger so I get it. You want to be out right at the time you're scheduled to be off. Yet, I still had 5 minutes to closing. I went to the cashier and she said she cashed out the register 10 minutes before closing so I couldn't purchase the glasses. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? My mouth dropped. I said thank you and I happily left. I've always loved Macy's because of the name brands they carry and in the early 2000's, I was here every week buying the latest Baby Phat or Rocawear outfit. Now that I'm a grown woman (and Baby Phat and Rocawear aren't "it" anymore), I tend to not buy as much but I do invest in good quality items. So, when my belt died, I ran to Macy's to get another one. Now, let me say that the belt that died on me was super cute (gold sparkles), but I got it at Target for $21.99 + tax. Why did I find a Michael Kors belt for $17.99 + tax? Needless to say, I bought it and I love it and I love Macy's for allowing me to buy a name-brand necessity cheaper than if I had gone to Target thinking I was getting a bargain. I gave this Macy's 2 stars because it's marginally better then the Salinas store. So there's this older, tall, hairless guy that works in Customer Service and even though he is dealing with peoples personal information like Drivers Licenses and Bank Cards with their names on them he still insists on calling everyone Buddy... He's very rushed and doesn't take the time to listen. Sorry don't know his name but I'm sure you will find his big mouth in Customer Service... I have been a long term shopper at Macy for over 10 years, and I have never had a bad experience until today. Recently, I purchased a peacoat which was the wrong size with my c.c. so I brought it back within 20 min they clerk kindly put the money back on my card. Maybe a 5 min process, An I continued to spend just a extra 500 on some coats, as gifts. Today I tried to return just one that didn't fit so I could buy my partner two as a make up gift. However, I received the worst condescending attitude from a employee name CHRISTINE!! Not only did it take her forever to ask everyone on staff if the return was possible. Macy's is not my favorite dept. store, but because it's almost the only game in town, I go. While the selection is limited because the store is on the small side, they do stock some quality merchandise--much better than, say, Sears. Some of the clerks are great; some are... well, not so great. The worst ones I've encountered are in men's fragrances. Uh, ladies? Hello? I'm a man looking at the men's fragrances--maybe I want to buy something. Perhaps if Macy's hired fewer foreigners as clerks for this department, the service would be better--who knows? Maybe Macy's needs to do better training. On the other hand, Michael in men's suits and Charles in men's shoes are excellent. Knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, they are professionals. Ask for them. Just avoid the young black guy in men's suits--he has a bad attitude. Anyway, most things goes on sale eventually; the question is when. Ask a clerk when the next sale will be; if he won't tell you, ask another. There are two level of sale: big discounts and not-so-big discounts. The former are the shorter "one-day" sales that last two days (go figure); the latter last for several days. It's frustrating to have to wait, and I'd rather that everything were offered at the "sale" price all the time, but I'll go ahead and wait so that I can save some money. I'll always resent Macy's for buying out the parent companies of the local department stores I knew and then changing their name to Macy's. I understand the rationale; I just don't think it was worth the loss of local identity. Still, that's a headquarters decision, and unrelated to this store. Bottom line: it's a mid-level department store with mid-level merchandise and mid-level service. read more

While at Macy's today my mother had some abdominal pain and fell to the floor. The employees of the women's department were kind enough to get her a chair, a bottle of water, called the manager, and even pushed my niece in her stroller around while my mom started to feel better. Absolutely appalling Customer Service, especially in the Shoe Department. I was waiting in line today and once the customer in front of me had left, the sales associate walked off knowing I was waiting. I stood waiting assuming she would be right back - but no she ignored me. I called her out and all she could say was Oh yeh!! Really, once I told her how incredibly rude she was being she made the excuse that she was serving another customer which was a lie to save face. This is not an isolated incident. This store is always empty and there is a reason for it - you cannot find sales associates anywhere - I usually end up leaving. It is such a shame as this is the only Department store close but the complete lack of Customer Service is truly incredible. read more

This review is for the shoe department only. I have had very pleasant experiences with other departments, and the store itself is very nice. However, the customer service in the shoe department is a travesty. Absolutely horrendous. My mom and I have gone into the store on multiple occasions hoping to buy some new shoes, and there isn't a sales person in sight. I always see employees for the athletic shoes just sitting there talking to each other but when I go over to ask for help, their response is "oh that's not my section". I have worked in customer service for YEARS, and I know the customer isn't always right, and I do my best to not be a "Karen", but d*mn I almost asked to speak to the manager. No one offered to help me find my size or go get the sales person for the area I was shopping in. It felt like they just didn't care. I am disappointed, and will not be spending my money at this stores shoe department. Zero stars for the shoe department. Giving two stars because the employees in other departments are very good.
