Absolutely appalling Customer Service, especially in the Shoe Department. I was waiting in line today and once the customer in front of me had left, the sales associate walked off knowing I was waiting. I stood waiting assuming she would be right back - but no she ignored me. I called her out and all she could say was Oh yeh!! Really, once I told her how incredibly rude she was being she made the excuse that she was serving another customer which was a lie to save face. This is not an isolated incident. This store is always empty and there is a reason for it - you cannot find sales associates anywhere - I usually end up leaving. It is such a shame as this is the only Department store close but the complete lack of Customer Service is truly incredible. read more

While at Macy's today my mother had some abdominal pain and fell to the floor. The employees of the women's department were kind enough to get her a chair, a bottle of water, called the manager, and even pushed my niece in her stroller around while my mom started to feel better. Thank you Macy's for employing such courteous people. read more

This review is for the shoe department only. I have had very pleasant experiences with other departments, and the store itself is very nice. However, the customer service in the shoe department is a travesty. Absolutely horrendous. My mom and I have gone into the store on multiple occasions hoping to buy some new shoes, and there isn't a sales person in sight. I always see employees for the athletic shoes just sitting there talking to each other but when I go over to ask for help, their response is "oh that's not my section". I have worked in customer service for YEARS, and I know the customer isn't always right, and I do my best to not be a "Karen", but d*mn I almost asked to speak to the manager. No one offered to help me find my size or go get the sales person for the area I was shopping in. It felt like they just didn't care. I am disappointed, and will not be spending my money at this stores shoe department. Zero stars for the shoe department. Giving two stars because the employees in other departments are very good. I'm pretty sad to give this store such a low rating, especially since I used to work there many many moons ago. The store was pretty filthy. Not only on the display racks (I'm talking massive dust balls), but the floor itself looks like it hasn't been vacuumed or cleaned in quite some time. When I needed help in the jewelry department, I basically went on a goose hunt to find a customer service rep...I ultimately gave up since it became apparent that there was only ONE employee to run the the handbag department AND fashion jewelry area. Seriously? Come on, now! I felt sorry for the gal because she was obviously overwhelmed since she had about fifteen grumpy customers, like myself, wanting help and wasn't getting it. When I walked through the other departments, I wasn't acknowledged, no one smiled at me...NO ONE HELPED ME! When I worked for Macys, you always made a guest feel like they exist and ask if they needed anything. Has management really gone downhill THAT bad in terms of training and enforcing the rules? Trying to buy a pair of shoes at this Macys is like trying to get a drink at an overcrowded bar. They are understaffed, and don't give you the time of day unless you are a wealthy-looking, middle-aged woman, who thinks they can bring their little shit-dog everywhere. I don't like shopping in stores with dogs. gross. It's not a kid, you can leave them at home. Macy's has no idea what kind of life I live or how much money I am able to spend in the store, so just because I may be in sweat pants, and pushing around a kid or two in a stroller, it is not a good business tactic to serve me last (or wait for me to wave my arms around like an airplane traffic controller). Plus, I am in my 30s. I have a lot more shopping-years left in me, than these older women, who look like cadavers being propped up with silicone and gaudy jewelry. I don't normally write these reviews, but I have been in the women's shoe department at this Macy's 7 times since Christmas (buying, returning, buying, returning, attempt to buy and baby starts crying, buying), and this is the kind of service I received every single time. Different employees, different days of the weeks, different times in the day; my patronage is apparently not welcome there. And please put a diaper changing station in your restrooms. read more

The staffing in the shoe department is obviously commission based. They only help you if they think you are going to immediately buy a pair of shoes. It is not service--just rush to get you shoes and then ignore you. It's pretty pathetic. The housewares department is pretty pathetic as well. With the exception of Jillian (she is very knowledgeable and helpful), the girl I spoke with was completely incompetent. What a well- kept store with plenty of stock. Loved my visit here during my vacation in Monterey. With coupons and helpful cashiers I was able to pick up some items I forgot for reasonable prices. I simply love their clothes, especially the brands INC and Studio M. I was able to walk out of here for under a hundred bucks with a swimsuit, two fancy shirts, and one sun hat. Usually a swimsuit alone could run me that. I'd come back if ever on vacation here again. read more

Came to Macy's today which I NEVER do. To be honest Macy's is tacky and doesn't have the brands I like. There is no other department store in the area so I basically didn't have a choice. My daughter needed some bedding for school so she picked out a Tommy Hilfiger comforter set for $220 and some towels. When we got to the register the sales clerk (who was super friendly and nice) informed us the set was on sale. I was like cool, and then she told me the $220 set was $27. We were recently in Monterey and stopped on our way home to get a bottle of Chanel Haute Chocolat nail polish. The chick at the Chanel counter was too busy yapping with some dude who was hitting on her, they talked about their Facebook accounts for like 5 minutes. I headed over to the Clinique counter where a 40-ish blonde with long hair was cleaning the counter, it was about 5 minutes to closing. I asked her if she could help me in the Chanel counter and she snapped, "there's a girl there, isn't there?" I nearly told her where to go but my husband said "she's busy, can you help us out?" So Blonde Bitch goes over, grabs the sample polish and sticks it in Chanel girl's face, "she wants this" and walks past us, snapping at my husband "it only takes a minute" - OMG, I wanted to slap this bitch and make her stay late. Turns out they're out of the polish - then why have the sample out??? I know it's a temporary product, so I ask if I can buy the sample. Chanel Girl snaps no, I'm sure because she wants to take it home herself. TERRIBLE SERVICE, between airhead Chanel Girl and Blonde Bitch, this is one cosmetics counter to avoid!!! read more

I recently went to the Dior counter to get color matched for a bb cream. Estee Lauder was suppose to send me their bb cream but I received a letter in the mail a week later stating that they do not have my shade, boo :( However my experience at the Dior counter made up for it! Sharon and another sale associate were so helpful and informative on the product(s) I was looking for. Besides my hunt for a bb cream that isn't heavy and is super hydrating, the SA (she's half korean, I forgot her name!) recommended a very hydrating oil serum and the essential 1. I was very skeptical because I began using SK-II essence 2 months ago and I really wanted to fall in love with it (but my pregnancy hormones is drying the life out of my skin). I purchased the Dior skin care products knowing that I can return it if it does not work for me. A few days later, Sharon the counter manager gave me a courtesy call to follow up with me. I expressed that within just a few days of switching up my skin regimen, I absolutely find each skin care product so effective already! I appreciate that they remember me (maybe because I have a loud voice when I am excited??) But I feel that they took the extra time to make me feel the one on one attention. I only have one booger to pick: it seems that when I spend a certain amount of money, I do not receive as much free "goodies" which I have been told from a different SA. If I'm investing over $500, one little perfume sample is not going to "wow" me (this SA was not the person helping me in the first place, she was gathering my items together). I guess it just depends who you get when you purchase your products. Over all, I walked out feeling great! read more

My dear Yelp friends - I must disagree with your collective reviews. I have found that I can always find what I need at Macy's. Whether it is some quality towels, a coffee grinder, a suitcase, an acid green BCBG dress, sleeveless fur coat, Bare Escentuals - you name it, they have it. And they always have some type of promo going on. I don' t think the prices are really that different to say, Marshalls. I haven't ever been disappointed by the selection of items I can find here. They also have Wacoal underwear and I have always found select sales associates to be helpful, especially Iris in the Impulse department. The long-term guys in Women's Shoes really rock. Eli has been my "go-to" guy for years and I think Macy's has a decent selection of shoes. No Louboutin's for sure, but they have great work-appropriate shoes and I am always well-shod in a nice pair of Tahari's or Calvin Klein's, even Coach and Michael Kors. Besides, I mean, let's be real - where else are we going to go? We have no Saks any longer as far as department stores and we have no real department store any longer for homegoods. Here are my thoughts about Macys: good customer service, horrible music, way overpriced clothes. I bought a pair of pants and a shirt for $70! The pants were $40 and those were on sale! I can't imagine buying pants that aren't on sale here! The shirt with a simple nike logo on it cost $28, yes $28 for a shirt. I won't be shopping here again. However the pants they had were great, just way overpriced. They played justin bieber in the store and I wanted to get the hell out. Main point: Go to a different clothing store. read more

I recently went shopping and experienced both wonderful customer service and just plain bad. In the women's dress department, the customer service was very pleasant and extremely helpful. The sales associate was kind enough to place all my clothes in a stall to hold it for me and then also check on me while I was trying on dresses. She ran back to check for other sizes as well. The shoe department is another story. I ALWAYS get bad service. The sales staff welcome me to the department and then look at my feet/shoes. They decided if they want to help me by what I'm wearing on my feet. I had a sales associate tell me that there really wasn't anything in there department for me. (I had a hair appt later that afternoon, so I wasn't wearing makeup) I asked her, in front of her manager, if I should go elsewhere. At that point she spent about 5 minutes with me. I was in a time crunch as I needed shoes for an event that evening. When I took of my sneakers she saw I had recently had a pedicure, then she seemed more helpful. All my friends say to go to Carmel to buy shoes. I'm sure not going back to Macy's for my shoes. read more

Wow, I am surprised to see such negative reviews of this place. It's Macy's. That doesn't change much from place to place. The parking is convenient. The bathrooms aren't tucked away on the top level away from convenience. They are off of one of the men's sections on the middle level. The staff I encountered was all very helpful, and even helped me "work the system" to get the best prices, and the make-up counter bonuses. The three levels are kind of nice, so things aren't crowded. I don't love that the Juniors section is downstairs, or that the Macy's woman is even in its own storefront, but I think it's all in the name of having plenty of space for the merchandise. Won't recommend The Sunglass Hut inside MACY's. I went there to ask if they can fix my husband's Rayban glasses the lady there broke it. And it took them 2 months for them to replace it. But before then I bought a D&G glasses there and the lady I talked to told me that it was Polarized (by then I don't know that you can check the glasses if they are polarized by looking into that glass and if you see the word polarized then the glasses is polarized) the lady didn't show it to me but because there is 'P' sign on it I didn't bother. Few months later, because of my husband's Rayban glasses issue, they let him check that the replacement glasses is polarized and then I went back the next day to try out my D&G glasses and figured out that it IS NOT! I talked to the manager and complain about it, I don't have the receipt with me anymore but they checked the credit card number and my name on the system and they replaced it with a polarized one right away! Such an ERRRRR! 1 star because of what I have experienced and another 1 star because they replaced both glasses for free even though they are out of warranty. read more

Being in Monterey, I expected a bit more from this Macy's. It's not as bad as Eastridge, but I consistently receive better customer service at Oakridge. Their selection isn't great either. Their dress section consists of a maybe 5 regular racks and 2-3 clearance racks. I've been spoiled by the selection at Valley Fair, where you're swimming in racks and racks of dresses. I have shopped at Macy's stores all up and down the state, in numerous cities. Unfortunately, I live near the one in Monterey - the worst of the lot. The customer service is so poor in this store, I wish they'd just put in self-checkouts. It would be a vast improvement. Just one of the many, many poor experiences I've had there: I was shopping with a friend and her 8 year old daughter for clothes, and the two girls who were working that section, instead of offering us any help, proceeded to carry on a loud and personal conversation about birth control methods, including abortion. I was so shocked I simply took my friend and her daughter and left. But not shocked enough to go report it to anyone, because sadly, it's not an isolated incident. Lack of professionalism, poor training, not enough staffing - all long time problems with this Macy's. I'll drive two-three hours to shop at another location...a major inconvenience. When I heard rumors that a Nordstrom's might go into the vacated Mervyn's spot in the Del Monte Center, my heart did a happy dance. But no such luck. We're getting a Forever 21. DMC's commitment to mediocrity remains firm. read more

There is 1 reason why I feel guilty about giving this store 1 star & that is why I have decided on 2: the Mac counter. They are friendly & helpful which I appreciate when you just want to get in and out of a makeup counter without having them insist that your face needs to try the latest "whatever." With that said, sure I can find things at Macy's when I am in a pinch (my husband just needed an outfit for the cuz's wedding & in a 1 stop shop we paid a little more but got everything we needed), but you pay a fortune even if it is on sale. I am being forced to shop here for maternity clothes and they can never bother to actually hang the proper clothing on the right hanger. It's so difficult to find sizes and there is no one to help you find what you need. Furthermore I waited in line- once in children's and once in maternity. I stood in line for a total of 20 minutes. I used to be a Service Manager at this Macy's back in the day....boy have times changed! Customer service is so lacking. Here's my story: I wasn't looking to actually buy anything, but found a sweater that was a good deal. The sign at top said "use your Macy's card and get an additional 20% off." Also, when I did the price check at the kiosk, it also said "use your Macy's card and save an additional $5 (which was 20%)". I'm sold! There was no line at this particular cashier counter. She rang me up and she even had a 20% coupon she scanned--which was nice since I left mine at home. I mentioned the additional 20% using my Macy's card from the sign and price check kiosk since it didn't come up. Her response to me was, "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't." What the hell is that??? She gives me my receipt and then I had to ask for the additional 20% off for using my Macy's card. Her response was, "do you have the card that shows that. Um, I just told you that the sign and price check kiosk states it. Well, she gives it me. My point being is that this type of situation should not have happened--she should have given it to me without me asking. I get it--automation makes our lives easier, but errors can occur. When I worked there I would have just said sure, here you go. What got me was her statement "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't." Unless you can clearly tell me why it didn't work, then you need to make it work. I used to do customer service training at this Macy's when I was a manager, it seems they really cut back on those types of investments. I did get a survey from this Macy's shortly thereafter asking me to share my experience (first time ever I've received one and I've shopped there many times). This, at least, could be a sign that they recognize the need to address the customer experience. I did get a response back from the store manager thanking me for the feedback and assurance that customer service will be addressed. Let's hope so... read more

In general i am not a big fan of this Macy's because the quality of the clothing is not as good as i would like and it sometimes seems that corporate HQ must have dumped the dregs in this store thinking we are hicks or something like that. That being said, i was pleasantly surprised yesterday evening when my husband and i went to the bath/bedding department. I neglected to note her name but I was helped by a very knowlegeable and friendly young woman who even stayed past her clock out time to finish up with us. Too bad that after all her efforts the store was out of stock of what we wanted! Supposedly it will be shipped in 10 days, we'll see. I hope Macy's management takes note: customer service is hugely important and the sad thing about this Macy's is that it is noteworthy when it happens. read more

Went into the watch department at macys today looking to purchase a watch. Browsed for a good time, examining several items. The lady at the counter was chit chatting with a customer about old high school memories or something of the sort, which was fine. Just wish that after she was done, she would have at least acknowledged the customer with a watch in his hand ready to purchase. Instead, I got the cold shoulder followed with an "I'm going on break" which was said indirectly to me, announcing her decision to not assist. Whatever. We recently purchased a ring from Macy's and were really happy with the girls service and at the fact that we got the ring and an awesome discounted prize. We had to send the ring to be sized and the girl told us our ring would be ready for pick up in 2 weeks. We're going on 3 weeks now and every time we call to see if it's arrived they say no or that they're too busy to talk. The last girl we spoke with, named Hilary said she was too busy to check through the paperwork and to call tomorrow maybe someone else will have the time to look. Which I find ridiculous when your job is to help customers! She was so rude. I'm so disappointed and frustrated if they would have followed through with their word and actually talk to you when you call then it would have been a totally different review... read more

What a horrible experience despite the nice associate who told me he couldn't help me. Guessing they'll be in the next round of Macy's closures. Tried to return a blouse purchased on 12/24/17 and he told me it wouldn't scan as purchased. No refund. No help. On to the next blouse which apparently couldn't be returned because it was over 30 days (Christmas purchase) and was "Last Chance". Only problem is that there was no indication at time of purchase that it was "last chance". As the associate said, "Yeah, we get that a lot. Nothing on the tag says anything."
