What a delightful experience we had at this Macy's last night. We went in to look for shoes and a couple of nice pieces of work clothes. Based on previous experiences at this store, we didn't expect much in the way of assistance. In fact, when we went to the top floor for men's sports jackets and suits, even on this visit, I was annoyed at how the sales rep seemed to ignore us, even after eye contact. How rude! Chun-Yin in men's shoes, however, redeemed this store in our eyes and made this a 5 star visit. Chun is one of a kind, and customer service like what he provided is pretty much unseen these days. He is so genuine, patient, careful, and thoughtful. He clearly loves what he's doing. I hope that Chun's style with customers will serve as a shining example of stellar customer service. This review is strictly about the wedding registry. I can summarize my feelings in two words. It really f**king sucks. Oh, the products are generally very nice, and the automated registration is a lot of fun with the scanner and selection, but there are two things that make it a horrid experience. 1) The prices in the store and on the web are not consistent. 2) The items are 'on sale' intermittently, and will change without a moments notice. This sale usually drops after someone has bought the first piece of china, leaving you committed to them throughout the wedding. If it were a five dollar difference, that wouldn't be a problem. But we are talking about a markup on a five piece china set going from $109 going to $179. It's flat embarrassing when your family is shopping for you and they think you'd ask for a $200 gift (with shipping), when it was really intended to be $120. Our silverware price literally doubled from $35 to $70. It's ridiculous. Then there is the constant barrage of reminders that you need to buy your wedding china after the wedding, when it's on sale (and after everyone bought something else), only to find out that the sales go on for a year or so. Think it's just me? We were talking to a woman who worked at a different Macy's, and she mentioned that she just got married. We asked her if she registered with Macy's, and she said no. That's even with the employee discount. Basically, it's a massive scam to get an extra 50%-100% out of unwitting customers. Because of these practices, I'm never dealing with Macy's again. read more

I haven't been to a Macy's in years but I made a stop at this particular one hoping to get some strapless bra thingie my bestfriend suggested I wear for my bridesmaid dress for her wedding. I went up to the lingerie department, looked around, and picked two items to try on. I was looking for a sales associate to answer a couple questions but they were all huddled (about six of them) around the cash register, talking and ignoring the customers browsing their section. I let it go and just decided to try on what I picked out. I asked one associate for a fitting room and some assistance getting into the underwear because it was like a corset but buttoned up from the back with the little hook and eye. She opened the room and left saying she'll be right back. Yeah that didn't happen. At one point I came out (wearing my pants and the corset bra) and asked my husband to clip it for me and he was scolded by the same sales person. She said "men weren't allowed to help". Well Hell, first of all we were *outside* the fitting room and second, she was about as useful as a fart in a bottle. Needless to say I was pissed and left without buying the necessary undergarment for my BM dress. I went to Bloomingdale's instead where a very nice lady fitted me for the proper bra. Macy's used to be nice. The service used to be good. And you used to feel like it was a semi-posh place to shop. Now it feels like a depressed cross between JCPenny's and Mervyn's. This Macy's with it's drab look and feel and sucky sucky customer service does not belong in a place like the Stanford Shopping Center. read more

I wish I had looked at the reviews before coming to this store. We stopped by with a recently purchased suit from another Macys for alterations and sadly had a similar experience to Diane C's (maybe it was the same guy!). When we asked to see the tailor, the salesman said he was too busy to see us, but we could come back later. When we asked when "later" would be, the salesman replied he didn't know, that the tailor would probably be busy all day, and maybe we should come back tomorrow. After some reluctance, he said he could measure the pants we needed hemmed by Friday. After we finally got the measurements and was ringing us up, the charge mysteriously was increased by over 50%. Why? Because he failed to mention there was an express charge. Oh? New policy, I asked? No, it's been around for a while--throughout the entire process, he never mentioned this fee, nor have I ever heard of any other Macys having one. I should have gotten this done in NJ where they offered to do it in 3 days without additional fees. Stupid me--we had a flight to catch. Long story short--DO NOT go to this store unless you know EXACTLY what you want and can walk out of the store with it in hand immediately! read more

All I wanted was a "nicer than denim" pair of pants. Ideally something like khakis, but black. Given that the women's clothing is organized by brand, this was going to be a bit challenging. I asked a sales associate where I could find them - and said I thought I might want a petit size - so she replied "You should probably go to petit then". In that section I couldn't find anyone to help me. I tried some stuff on, but it all looked terrible on me. Like grandma pants. So then - to make myself feel better? - I tried the juniors section. Again, no one to help and I ended up trying on some stuff that seemed 4 sizes smaller than marked. Perhaps I would have found what I was looking for had someone taken the time to help me. read more

It offends me when people make fun of people who work retail. Yes Macy's only pays $9 an hour vs the good ole days of commission, and you probably can make benefits if you are full time, and for some people they are happy working like that. But you can usually tell when they have no clue where any backstock is or know nothing about the product that they don't give a rats ass about their job. These are the people that you should avoid at any retail establishment and they are probably the people Patrick H describes, but don't take your experience with one or two idiots and say they are all like that. I have been somewhat working in and out as a vendor rep at this specific Macys and some of the people here are very attentive and great employees and some are as dumb as a rock. But Macy's does carry some good brands here, and the Marc Ecko Cut and Sew line which is cut much slimmer and is very stylish has a decent sized area. So I found 2 pairs of jeans, and 2 blazers for my husband for a grand total of $100, CRAZY pricing! Yesterday was on the "one day sale" and the store was packed. Anyhow it's a decent store if you want something on sale, but Nordstrom is always better if customer ser vice, neatness and availability of product are what you are more interested in. So if you want to work with money hungry commission sales people who will do anything to get you the right size, go over there and skip the piles of mess to be picked through at Macys. read more

Regarding the cosmetics department, I found it to be lackluster. One star to being well stocked. Lancome matched me with a darker concealer. She was nice And helpful and told me to think about it. I then decided to go to sephora and found they carry the same product I was looking for. I found a color one shade lighter and tried it and a lady there said it matches better than the one I got "matched" with at Macys. That what the other lady showed me was pink undertones.. I'm asian so I need yellow.. Zero stars to service at Shiseido. I stood there for few seconds and a guy at the other counter told them they have a customer waiting..which was me.. I told her what I wanted and she proceeded grab wrong thing. Could have sworn she whispered to her coworker "that's it she's getting". She gave me my item and did t say thank you. I said,"thanks" which was followed by quietness. So in conclusion, as harsh as it sounds, not all at the makeup counters are skilled. And few are inattentive proving to be a poor shopping experience. Haven't shopped at Macy's in a while so decided to try out buying online again. The sizes didn't fit quite right so I went in to this store to exchange. The service was incredibly rude and clothes are scattered everywhere. The lady at the Levi's counter practically yelled at me that she had told me there was a counter for online orders (which she hadn't otherwise I would've gone there instead) and gave me attitude the entire time. The whole experience left a bitter taste in my mouth; definitely don't recommend shopping at Macy's here. read more

I'm not sure why, but every time I place an order for pickup, the item I pick up has been used (broken tape, water spots, etc.). Popped in for an eyebrow pencil for my wife, and started checking them out to see which one she usually uses. I opened one of the pencil boxes and an associate (I think who's name is Monique or Monica) started yelling at me to stop opening the boxes because they are live products. There was no "Hello! I see you're interested in our MAC products! What can I help you find today?" She snatched the product from my hands and then passed me off to another associate immediately for an extremely awkward exchange. I ended up just asking for the one I had in my hand that she had taken away, and checked out as fast as I possibly could. read more

Poor customer service. Sales associates are unprofessional. Was purchasing a maternity bra. After paying for item asked for a printed receipt. Sales associate said it was emailed even though I did not request for receipt to be emailed. Also did not use a Macy's card so not sure how receipt was emailed when this was not selected or asked. Asked sales associate if the tag would be good enough for returns as at certain stores like Nordstrom this is a thing. Then had to ask for a bag. I am not sure why the sales associate thought I wanted to carry a bra through the mall with no bag. Sales associate seemed like I was bothering her asking for a bag. She then said she only had the bag on the counter. Which was the bag the lady in front of me brought in from home with her returns. No big deal as I am all for saving the environment. As I was walking through store to leave I checked my email. No receipt. Randomly asked another sales associate if it is normal for receipts to just be emailed. She said no you have to press a button saying you want an email receipt. This new sales associate told me to go back to the register and ask for a manager. Randomly manager just happened to be a the register. The lady getting checked out by the same associate that checked me out was given a printed receipt. Informed manger that I wanted a receipt printed and how I felt that my concerns were being dismissed. Being told basically to walk out the store with a bra in my purse without a receipt prior to me asking for receipt and bra. If I was stopped at the door by security it would look like I stole the item. The manager finally figures out how to print the receipt. Yay great. Well when I walk out the store it says I purchased two items which is weird as I only bought a bra. Second item was the store rounding up to the Ronald McDonald House. Rounded up 77 cents without telling me. I was never asked if I wanted to round up to charity or told how much of my donation goes to this charity. I like the Ronald McDonald house, but my concern is this money really going to this Charity when I was not told about the round up. Is it going to Macy's. 77 cents is not much, but if Macy's is doing this repeatedly to customers unexpectedly this is fraudulent. Especially as I don't know where the money is really going. At Safeway they always as if you want to round up and where the money is going. I want to donate to charities on my own terms and I want the tax right off. Plus Macy's in all terms basically stole from me. Yes only 77 cents but it is still theft. read more

i've been coming here a lot recently since "special event" season is in full swing: graduations, weddings, summer garden parties. i'm usually only in the dresses section, looking for the perfect dress suitable for the occasion that i'm attending. their selection is very good, and almost every time i'm here, something is on sale, so i've scored some pretty good deals here. if it fits, i prefer to purchase in the juniors section since the prices are better than the misses/women's section. note: this macy's is for women only, they have a completely separate building for the men on the other side of this mall read more

This review is for the Clinique counter at Macy's Stanford. I met with Janel a few times for color matching and getting samples. Each time she always had a smile on her face, very friendly and accomodating. She also knows her cosmetics! There was also "just one left" of my Even Better Foundation that she had! Sephora was completely out. Thanks Janel! All smiles** The other Macy's Clinique that I've gone to in Newark and Southland were duds! I told the sales associate in Newark that my shade is Honey. After a look of irritation that she had to help me, she brought me to the foundations and kept asking, "is this the one? Is this the one?" and yes, one more time, "is this the one?". Store is clean, bright, well organized. There is always someone to help etc. But I think Macys stores in general are just too expensive. I like going there when they have sales, but otherwise, I think it does not worth it. I went recently there for maternity clothes shopping... I went out with a bill of over 120 for one pair of jeans and a small shirt (not particularly stylish; I tried to find the least ugly ones on sale!!). Even with that, I was disappointed with the price. A few days later I went to Target and found much more nicer clothes for more than half of the price. Quality is better on the brands sold at Macys, but since I am not a fashionista or caring about brands, I don't like it too much. read more

Well if you need some new bedding, enjoy joking around with a 60 year old woman, and want to get 20% off, then maybe another 25% off, and leave the store with 3 bags, a new comforter, and a brand new Macy's credit card, then this is the shop for you. I bought several item online using my gift card. The card was used up so I threw it away. I ordered the wrong sizes so attempted to return item by getting the return label online. In doing so I got a notice they will credit the card I threw away ! I don't have the card or number! I tried calling , you get into the automated system asking for the gift card number! There is no customer service, no one to resolve unique problems. No chat line. I finally found an email and wrote several emails to God knows who without any response. I wouldn't try to purchase anything online right now. I you might not get your money back! Hoping someone will see this and give me a legit number to call. One where someone actually answers the phone. They sure want our money, so send emails with ads, but they e given up on customer service! If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

As a previous Yelper has stated, Union Sq Macy's is the best. I like the Macy's salespersons at the Stonestown Macy's women/petites dept, they have the best customer service. Macy's Stanford is OK, I was able to find sizes of small size clothing which would've been long gone from the racks at Union Sq or Stonestown. Not too impressed with their linen dept and the 1st floor is just so busy with traffic since there's cosmetics, jewelry and designer clothing like BCBG and Theory all on the same floor. Their big sales are fantastic as you can find nice stuff at reasonable prices. read more

So a few weeks ago I was in Macys Furniture store San Mateo (separate review) and was approved for a furniture LOC and a credit card. After I made my furniture purchases I left, went home and napped. Furniture shopping is so much more stressful than you think it is! After my nap I thought hey - I only get the 15% off on that credit card today and I need some new stuff to go with my new place. I went online and moved a ton of stuff from my wish list to my shopping bag .....eekkk! now that was fun. I pulled out the papers the furniture store gave me and entered in what I thought was my account number - nothing worked. At this point Macys as a whole was earning itself about a two star review. Then I drove over to the Stanford Macys - went to housewares. I told the clerk I had my shopping bag number could they just go in and link my credit card and submit my order. They called the manager Marsha who took me over to the wedding registry ladies. While things aren't as integrated as I expected them to be - you know here is the shopping bag, you have the card number make it happen magic. After a couple of phone calls it was all sorted and my order placed with my extra 15% off. To boot this was one of the crazy one day sale Saturdays and it was about 8:30pm, everyone was still very helpful and happy! Thank you Macys for making things work for me. read more

I only shop at Macy's for my bath towels, pillows, and bedding accessories. I agree that Macy's customer service is terrible, BUT in the Home department, Susan J. Miller is the BEST! I only go to her. She actually helps you out and looks in the stockroom if you want another towel or can't find it on the floor. She definitely takes her time with you and never rushes you. She tells you about upcoming pre-sales so you don't have to pay full price and weekend sales, which is great! She's very personable as well. read more

The salesladies upstairs in the Women's section have been especially helpful. The selection here isn't great however. I love this mens macy, i even open my Macys account after deciding to purchase my birthday suit ;) . I feel like they are always having sales! Why a two star? I went in one day to pay off my macys account which i had an idea of how much it was no more then X amount. So i find the first cashier that wasn't busy and asked if i could pay it off, he said yes of course. He then tells me its Y amount, im like are you sure? (in my head im like that's almost twice of what i thought) so i ask him if he can tell me what i purchased he said no! instead he told me if i was going to pay or not, i payed of course but waited for my paper statement to come. Little did i know that i had overpaid!!!!!!! so now i have a credit on my account and it will take 7-10 business days for my check to get here? Yeah next time ill just wait to get my statement, all i wanted to do was pay it off early! SMH read more

This is for the Finish Line at Macy's Stanford. My husband went to men's Macy's at Stanford to purchase athletic shoes. We went to the Finish Line desk. Carter helped us with the selection. He was mostly enjoyable, totally helpful, efficient and no doubt knowledgeable. We did not have an issue with our services with Finish Line. Here is my protest. In the past, my husband and I always purchased our athletic shoes at Nike. They have a nice store at Stanford. This time, I got a coupon from Macy's so we wanted to use it. We were told that we could not use our Macy's discount coupon at Finish Line as they are two separate entity. We were told that Macy's outsourced their athletic shoes department to Finish Line. The Finish Line salesperson cannot ring any items for Macy's and vice versa. They can only service Finish Line items. I wonder how many time the poor Finish Line salespeople have to explain to Macy's customers, "no, sorry, we can't help you" as we are not associated with Macy's. While Carter was busy with my husband, I had to explain the same thing to at least 5 people in line that they had to go to another counter to ring Macy's items. To have Finish Line inside of Macy's and have separate procedures and regulations are very confusing to the public, at least to me. We don't know if we will venture to Stanford Macy's just to buy the Finish Line athletic shoes. That's the reason for my star rating. read more

I drove all the way from San Jose to use my Stanford Mall gift card, I decided to use it at the Macy's and spent about 3 hours trying to find the right purchases, my last purchase was in their shoe department. When I was asked if I needed help, the sales associate (Irene) walked away after I said YES. I then walked over to her and asked for a size 6 shoe, she giggled and said good luck to me THREE times. She comes back with the shoes, and as she is assisting me she flirts with all of the male associates in another language - I disregard and try on my shoes. I then make a decision on the pair that I wanted to purchase and decided to add the rest of my pieces I found, to the purchase. It totals to be about $150, she runs my gift card and has me sign and then says the card didn't go through so to try again. I tried again and she then told me that I OWED money for the purchase - which made NO sense. She calls her manager over and he asks her, did you cancel the purchase? She says no, she (pointing to me) must have - I repeated about 3 times to her and the manager that I did not ever push a cancel button - just signed and enter. He then tells her, customers can not cancel purchases and let's her know that he will take care of me. As she walks away she begins speaking in another language to her coworker and as her coworker stares at me. **RUDE** The manager (Amir) then calls the number on the back of my gift card and finds out that BOTH purchases were charged to the card and the balance is now at $0. I was very upset and let Amir know about my experience, he then gave me a Macy's coupon for my next purchase. I appreciated his service, in trying to help me in the matter - but will never again shop at this store again. read more

I go into Macy's at the Stanford Mall to escape the cold or the heat. I'm never compelled to look around the store. The shopping experience isn't exciting the product looks blah. Its a little run down to say the least. Its a shock considering how classy the rest of the mall has become. This time I had to make a pit stop and Neimans was closed. Upon arrival I found that they converted the mens restroom into the womens restroom. The urinals were still intact, covered up by brown butcher paper. REAL CLASSY... Ick. Ick. Ick. While she and I were equally puzzled by what had been done with a transaction, she was proactive in resolving it in a positive manner using good judgement and valuing me as a customer. You restored my faith in customer service and I may never know what caused the initial issue, but it does not matter since I left a satisfied customer and feeling that you had done your best given the circumstances. Classic Macy's stores. A little understaffed though--I came here to buy a watch the other day and I felt like it took us forever to find a table that was actually manned by someone to take the order. It's clean, big enough, and honestly if you can't find what you want in the store, you can get them to order it online or you can do it yourself. Typical Macy's. I ended up buying a watch here and the guy who worked with me was great. He polished the watch, set it, took out the links. Just did his job and was generally friendly and helpful and answered all our annoying questions. read more

Every time I have been in this store, I have come out disgusted. The clothes are un-appealing, availability is limited and service non-existent. But one thing they are very consistent, every six months I go and check this store out and it has been the same bad experience. Apparently there is a complaint feed back on Macy's web site. Shopping the men's store here, I found a lot of excellent deals on nice dress shirts, levi pants, and shirts. A lot of clothes on clearance with a great price tag. Employees are very helpful as well in finding things and advising what matches what. I opened a new account and saved much more $$$. Returning clothes is easy and no problem. My only complaint is that the selection of men's shoes was not that great, my only complaint. Other than that, prices are fair for the quality. Just don't spend too much! read more

I'm on a spree of happy reviews, so I felt the need to think back to the last negative retail experience I had. I can't have yelpers thinking I'm a pushover :D Anyway, this Macy's immediately came to mind. I remember having painfully slow, bad experiences here since I was a little kid, and this summer has been no exception. They instated a terrible new pre-sale, pre-buy thing. The deal is, you pick out and pay for the items, and then they hold on to them until the sale actually starts. Then when you come back, they're strapped for sales people, and long lines of unhappy people build up, all just expecting a quick, in-and-out deal that ends up taking 20 minutes of standing around, listening to musak and awful ads with other cranky women, wondering if maybe you should call 911 so that someone can dig the poor sales lady out of the back room before she suffocates under all that rubble. I mean clothing. Macy's, seriously. Even a poor college student prefers to pay more at a store where someone will help you before your eyes start bleeding from impatience and despair. read more
