It's no wonder these big box megga slacker store in decline, even on line. I made a purchase by phone at the Palo Alto store that was never delivered, nor was there a record of the sale, except it showed up at the Main SF Macy's in a print and on my bank records. I called the store 6 times and got nowhere and even wrote a letter to the General Manager of the store with all the print information and receipts by certified mail. The Manager, nor anyone from his office ever responded, three months and running. As an MBA and business researcher, my instincts are that Macy's, like many other arrogant one time high flyers will soon end up on the dust heap of time. And, all those incompetent folks running the show as well as their minions will all either end up fleeing but not before the raid Macy's and give themselves golden & semi golden parachutes or on the skids, homeless in the Tenderloin begging at a soup kitchen. As a graduate student, I predicted, years in advance, the economic collapse of the leading auto manufactures in the US, and why it would happen; all due to their on going sloppy business practices that are echoed in stores like Macy's. Main reason? Zero accountability by anyone. No department knows what the other is doing and all the most vital information is out sourced to agencies that have nothing to do with actual vital interests of the stores they represent. Arrogant and superior beyond belief! Sloppy, sloppy, lazy, lazy, WBP, worst business practices and worst customer service award, goes to Macy's Palo Alto and " "F-" to the General Store Manager, an Einstein of total incompetence. After waiting 3 months, 6 phone calls, 19 reroutes, and endless proving and defending, I was able to get one of the recovery departments deep in the bowels of Macy's under belly, to at least give credit on my Macy's card for the purchase that I'd made 3 months earlier and never received, even with proof of the purchase. This store is bound to end up in bankruptcy, hurled there by it's own doing. But until then_ Shame!, Shame, Shame on you, Macy's Palo Alto! read more

The sales woman working this evening in the women's department in the dresses lacks any sort of customer service and is an unprofessional. I was trying on dresses today and was chased down by this woman twice because I had more than 6 items. I told her I would leave the other items outside my door as there was nowhere else to put them. The fitting room was completely empty. She chased me down again and said 'NO MA'AM NO!!!' and literally walked away from the transaction she was in middle of to scold me. She barked at me that I had to leave my other items ON HER CASH REGISTER counter. If I wanted them back I had to go up to the counter and ask for them from her. Treated like I would steal them. How wildly offensive. Power trip much? I have shopped at Macy's for YEARS and have NEVER been told my items had to be held on the counter while trying things on. I saw other people entering the fitting room with many items and funnily enough she chose not to harass them. I am a young Asian woman. Was this discrimination of some kind? As no one else was treated this way I wonder if she was a racist. She was a female in her 40s-50s, Caucasian. Absolutely appalling behavior. I would have bought 5 of the dresses but left not wanting to give a dime to this store. I left and bought dresses at Nordstrom and Ann Taylor. Usually a younger gentleman is working in this department and is friendly, helpful and professional. *Hopefully this woman's manager corrects her unacceptable behavior. She's in the wrong job and clearly needs help. Do not harass customers nor chase them. * I will never go back to this store or shop at Macy's online again. Despicable. read more

The Magic of Macy's??? More like The Magic of Nothing!!!!!!!!!! Like other Yelpers have mentioned, this Macy's location is old and tired inside. The decor is lacking, and while the bottom level seems fine, the second floor needs a major overhaul to blend in with the rest of Stanford Shopping Center. This location used to be great for just about anything. They always had an extensive selection of premium merchandise, including shirts, jeans, polos, socks, and more. However, the quality control has taken a turn for the worst. Clothes are literally tossed into piles or shoved onto racks on the second floor, making it almost impossible to efficiently look for cool t-shirts or sale items. The lines at some of the customer service kiosks are outrageous at times. The employees are often not committed or focused on helping customers locate items. One employee in the shoe department even said they could not process a price match from Macys.com in the system. I had to walk all the way down to the sock department to find an employee who was competent enough to process the price match. Macy's needs to invest time and money into fixing all aspects of this location quickly. I've taken my valuable hard-earned money elsewhere. I doubt corporate takes the time to read these reviews, but they definitely should as it is quite obvious customers are not satisfied with their experience at such a flagship location like Palo Alto. read more

From what I've experienced Macy's offers horrendous customer service. The Palo Alto store was no exception. I called them looking for a certain coat, b/c the Walnut Creek store told me they should have one left in stock. I needed a certain size, and had all the necessary information ready for them. I reached a lady in the women's coat department who put me on hold 2 times and then took my name, number, and coat label # and said she'd call me after she checked the computer. I told her I would greatly appreciate it and thank you so much. Well 3 hours later she hadn't called me back. Keep in mind the store is only supposed to have one left in stock, so the more time that passes the more likely they'll be sold out. So I called her back, and she said she hadn't had a chance to check yet, but would most certainly call me back before the end of the day. Well guess what....she didn't. I understand Macy's is busy, but that is just horrible customer service. She never called me back, period. I think she was hoping I'd just go away. Luckily I went ahead and called a store in Pennsylvania and found the coat there. No thanks to you, Palo Alto Macy's lady. read more

I've always had great experiences at Macy's, but unfortunately, this visit was a huge disappointment, all thanks to one employee. My mom and I were looking for assistance, and she repeatedly called out to this woman literally two feet away from us and she completely ignored her. My mom said "excuse me, can you help me?" at least ten times, but the employee just turned her back on us and acted as if we weren't even there. What made it worse was that she wasn't busy at all. She just didn't want to help us. When my mom asked about getting samples, she said she would go get them, but instead, she went off to help other customers. We were left standing there feeling completely disregarded. It was incredibly rude, and honestly, it was shocking because I've always been impressed with Macy's customer service. This one employee really left a bad impression, and I hope management takes this seriously, as it completely ruined our visit. read more

Macy's should invest some money in the structure and design of this store. It is EXTREMELY dated and the bathrooms were relatively filthy (when compared to the rest of the mall). The selection isn't always top choice, and the prices are usually high. You can get the identical merchandise online for cheaper from Macys.com. I wanted to buy a "friend" of mine a tie as a quick gift, but I didn't find one I liked, nor were any associates ready and willing to be of assistance. I ended up just ordering online. read more

Good place to go for my wardrobe needs without breaking the bank at some of the other retailers in the Stanford shopping center. The only problem I have is the parking on that end of the mall, well actually all over the mall, can be a little tricky to get. The holiday sales are great however. I usually hit this place the day after Thanksgiving. It's a good place go for both home goods and of course like I Mentioned before, my wardrobe! This is for the Glasses!! I bought some Ray Ban glasses and was able to get them on a great deal. When macys has the store on sale their glasses go on sale too. I dont know of naywhere else that can give me a good deal on Ray Bans, PLUS they come with a one year warrantee that cant beat other places. Your glasses never lose value and you can always exchange them if you are not sarisfy. The sales representative was very helpful and I came out with 2 pairs of new glasses!! read more

I was shopping around for a handbag for my girlfriend, and I really wanted to get her something nice! So I had asked an associate (female) for some advice on what to get her. Apparently, the associate I had asked was a manager. If I recall correctly, her name was Tiffany; she was GREAT to work with, extremely patient yet very helpful. THIS IS FOR MEN'S SUIT DEPT. This department has the best customer service. My son needed a last minute suit for his debate team competition and the salesman who assisted us went over and above the call of duty. We always have a great experience when we shop here and highly recommend this department. read more

No love relationship w/Macy's here. CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS! You are infinitely better off w/Nordstroms, which is polar opposite to Macy's

They do not have enough staff and the people that do work here are unhelpful and unknowledgeable (especially in Home electronics).

This macy has great customer service, and sometimes it it under staffed. but overall they provide a decent service.
