This review of Macy's in San Francisco is for their Toys R Us location. This collection is not located inside Macy's on O'Farrell Street rather directly across the street from Union Square. Walking past a storefront window, headed to Saks, I saw a collection of Peppa Pig - my daughter's main interest of current. The window read Toys R Us and I proceeded to walk into this small store location. Upon entry, I was greeted immediately by a friendly face and warm smile. She did not hover and allowed me to browse at leisure. The store is more deep than wide and continued with various collections of toys, stuffed characters and so much more. My interest was solely that of Peppa so I did not take in-depth observation of the entire collection. As for the Peppa section, there was a stuffed version of Peppa and mostly play figures of Peppa and her world. I purchased the family/friend collection of Peppa that included 3 vehicle variations for $45. Checkout was seamless and as friendly as when I initially entered. I would not go out of my way to venture to this location to specifically browse toys; however, I would not eliminate it if I am in the area. The store was clean, easy to browse, small appearing upon entry and can easily be missed. I visited on a Monday afternoon, it was extremely quiet and one person was at the register upon me entering the store. I would recommend public transportation to venture to Union Square as parking is sparse. read more

Sad for Union Square to have Macy's leaving even though the in-store experience has gone down over the years. With that said, I want to give a shout out to the furniture floor. You don't really think of Macy's for furniture but they do have a half floor dedicated to it albeit larger format pieces that might be challenging for cramped century-old SF apartments. However I found the perfect low-format sofa (that would fit through my narrow door) and it was on floor clearance. Special thanks to my sales guy, Lou, who was super communicative and got everything handled efficiently. Loading dock located on O'Farrell St. and everything was wrapped up and ready to go. Super efficient. Macy's might/might not leave Union Sq but if you're looking for furniture pieces, you might find a good deal like I did while they're still around. read more

First off, want to be grateful for what Macy's does at San Francisco Union square for the holidays. If it wasn't for Macy's building decor., Christmas tree and ice skating rink, San Francisco Union square would have nothing for the holidays. What a great Macy's and find clothes, home goods, and whatever your heart desires that many smaller (which is basically all), Macy's don't have. Head to Last Act in nearly every department to snatch some goods with real savings and so expansive at this location. You'll find yourself meandering throughout different departments because it's so expansive and much to see and maybe buy because you just can't live without these treasures! read more

I came april 2025 to have my watch get a new battery, i was in a hurry i guess , the person the lady gave me two receive a yellow one and a macy receipt. i told her regarding the yellow one why does it say kate spade she ignored me and i was in hurry. went on vacation by june the watch stop working. came back just this month went there and they they dont want to acknowledge they gave me the wrong receipt. bad customer service the lady there the hispanic and im sure it was her that april too, was rude . they didnt try to fix it . macy's customer service went donw the drain long ago. i pray it close down now read more

Went to the mems restroom near the restaurants. Nasty Nasty. One stall didn't work, one was full. And the handicapped stall had no toilet seat. WTF is wrong with you people ? No toilet seat......how is a ADA person supposed to sit on it with no toilet seat. Your men's restroom is like a prison or jail ? And the guy shaving & taking a bath in the restroom also. My favorite store. It was great when they had men's building separate from the main building, the selection was amazing and it was an experience to go shopping there. Now everything is in one building but still better than no Macy's, because they're talking about closing this store and that will be crazy. This Macy's is a history of San Francisco and we all love shopping there. It's a beautiful store with numerous departments. It has evolved over the years. We would hate to see this Macy's go. I hope upper management reads this I frequent this Macys often & my last experience was better than ever. It's obvious new management in the SF store has had a large impact. From accessibility to check out, organization & cleanliness of store, staff being welcoming & available. Their impact is noticeable. Also, Eunice (Hugo Boss) was so kind & friendly. Fitting rooms & checking out in a timely manner has always been a struggle at the SF location but not with her, she did a great job. Macy's has an outsource vendor that delivers furniture. The problem is that delivery service is bad. The guy will call your phone and it only rings two times then he hangs up. When you call that guy back, he won't answer, and the truck leaves with your furniture! I've had to wait longer for my furniture to be delivered. Those workers do not speak clear English so that's another problem. That company is racking up money. Macy's doesn't know this. Macy's needs to hire a better vendor. Non-delivery's then they drive again, more truck drives with employees and money for that vendor. They are telling Macy's no one is answering their calls which is not true. read more

This Macy's was very nice. It's a little empty, the neighborhood seems to be lacking in both tourism and local shoppers as of late, but everyone I encountered was very nice. Yvonne at the Elizabeth Arden counter was especially nice and helpful. It's a big Macy's, but doesn't have the crush that you get in New York City at Herald Square. I wish I had longer hours. I would have spent more time in the store. read more

As much as I'd love to see a place like Macy's continue to exist in Union Square, it may be time for this one to close. Very confusing signage for a number of floors and locations. Items listed on shelves with "On Sale" markings but items not actually on sale. Random alarms going off. A number of shelves and stands were pretty near bare. There is a mini-Nordstrom/Marshalls-esque discount "Backstage" on the 8th floor, but only if you take a certain elevator bank. Had a frustrating experience recently wherein for some reason the employees could not take off the anti-theft badge from an article of clothing after nearly 45 minutes of failed attempts. There's certainly some potential here and I agree with another reviewer that the furniture section was a pleasant surprise. Hope that Macy's or someone else can get it turned around. read more

My mom loves Macy's it's her favorite store, so I decided to bring her to this huge macys for her birthday last week. Girls day trip to San Francisco and she loved it so much. We literally spent most of the day here, she couldn't stop talking about how it's the best Macy's ever and how pretty me festive everything is especially right now for the holidays. I don't like this macys every time I go here I seem to have a problem doesn't matter the department. There was some shoes that was on sale online but I needed them that day instead of delivering so I called, made sure they were in stock and put them on hold. When I got there not only did I stand there by the counter for 30 whole minutes before I was acknowledged but the wouldn't honor the price online. I've worked for Macys and never did we not honor online prices And never do encounter these problems when I visit other macys stores. They need a whole new team, some more diversity For sure. Nobody but the security finally spoke to us and asked if we needed help. This happened to me around Christmas time to but I thought it maybe due time how busy the store was. Be aware! Went there yesterday and discovered the Christopher Rayko ornaments are from last year and before. If you want 2025 collection, only at Neiman Marcus. BTW the Ready to Wear is just God awful. If you want to wear curtain to Christmas party, Macys is the place. Macys used to be great but it is declining every year with more ugly and poor quality merchandise. The buying office needs to have their heads examed. The buying team from years ago used to be sharp and right on the money. And the store itself and just about every Macy's are just not keeping up well enough. Layouts are messy, no room between fixtures, outdated fixtures, lack of display sense of beauty and poor store decors. read more

This is one of the better Macy's stores. They have a decent selection, and the layout of the store makes shopping easy. There's a Starbucks and a couple other restaurants inside the store. My only complaint is related to the aggressive vagrants camped out on the curb right outside the door. read more

I felt disappointed when I saw the news that this location of Macy's would be closing for good in the near future. Honestly, I enjoyed shopping at Macy's especially during their special deals but with this location closing in the near future. I don't believe that I planned to make anymore purchases since I can't see the product. It's actually a hassle to buy online without seeing the product then needing to return by mail if the product isn't what I wanted. This review is for Toys R Us located in the lower level of Macy's in Union Square. Now, i'm extremely biased because I grew up a "Toys R Us Kid." After the store went out of business some years ago, I was so sad because it was part of my upbringing. It was so nostalgic walking through the aisles and seeing the logo. Despite being smaller in scale because it's not its own store, this location in Macy's has a lot of amazing toys. There is an aisle for all of the favorites; Disney, Nerf, Power Rangers, and so much more. For the next week, beginning Saturday, October 15 the store will have sales and giveaways. read more

I hadn't been to Macys since the beginning of the pandemic, so it had been a few years. I went looking specifically for some decent winter boots, I am very picky about shoes plus I'm a slightly unusual size. I loved the experience I had with the gentleman on the shoe floor, he was the best salesperson I've seen in many years. It's a dying art, and so nice when you're lucky enough to get excellent customer service. He was friendly but not overbearing, helpful, and made great suggestion. What an absolutely delightful shopping experience. This Macy's was classy and made me want to spend $$$. We found our way to the wine bar area and hung around there eating and sipping wine for a couple ow hours. The employee there was friendly and helpful in guiding us to decide on what we wanted to purchase. During my quick one day visit to San Fran, I wanted to stop at Union Square to look for the famous heart, instead we walked in to Macy's first for a bathroom break and ended up checking out this Iconic 8 floor Macy's. My impression was Oh My Good-WOW!!, I don't shop at Macy's while on vacation only when back home in Honolulu I would go to my fave Macy's which is tiny and only 2 floors compared to this one. I would get lost shopping here and I would have my anxiety attacks. I am glad my other half led the way here. We went to every floor just to check it out then ended on the 8th floor to check out the view. It was during December 2019 and Santa Con was happening that day, we got a nice glance of the Christmas tree and the Skating rink at Union Square Park, which is so beautiful. Macy's Union Square is located in the heart of San Francisco's shopping district, and is part of San Francisco's history for decades. Every holiday season since 1989, Macy gives its gift to the city by lighting a magnificent 83 foot tree, this tradition is considered the start of the holiday season in San Francisco. I was happy I get to witness this beautiful tree while I was at Macy's. There are lots to do here at this Macy's besides shopping, there are lots of dining choices here as well, the famous Boudin Bakery located on the bottom floor and even Cheesecake Factory on the top floor. Overall, I had great memories here, a must visit when in San Fran, I left my heart in San Francisco!! read more

My preferred fine department store is Nordstrom followed by Neiman Marcus (Bergdorf Goodman for my East Coast friends) Recently I've had a number of occasions where Macys came in clutch for something I needed and the price was a lot lower than I was prepared to pay. Who loves saving money? WE DOOOOOO! I bought so many lovely gifts for the holidays. Cashmere sweaters, down jackets, wool scarves, leather purses, fine jewelry, fancy perfumes and colognes, high thread count sheet sets. Listen I never said I was an impractical gift giver. I love gifting things I know my family and friends will use every day and think of me, someone who loves them so much I get to be a positive part of their day. That came out way more creepy than intended. After shopping in person at the beautiful Union Square location I did some online shopping. Macy's Money. Get some. Every purchase you make from now to some date I forget, you get Macy's money to spend like cash later. $233 online total earned me $40 off my next trip. This is AFTER I bought so many things on sale! In the end I gave Macy's my business after many years of resenting their terrible customer service, low quality inventory, and dirty stores. Macy staff are dishonest, they do not provide you correct information when applying for the credit card. I was not told about the limit they had on the discount offered when applying for the card, the staff told me that i would get a 20% discount on all my purchases i did for that day and I repeatedly asked them and got the same answer. Was shocked to see that I didnt get discount on total purchase and only on part of it. When i called the customer care the Representative says sorry Mam, they gave you wrong information. This is cheating and dishonesty. DO NOT believe the staff they are dishonest, liars. read more

This is probably the best Macy's in the Bay Area. They have a lot of good deals right now for the holiday season. There are multiple floors, I think 7, and they have some restaurants and coffee shops inside. The service is tops. Some of the restaurants inside are closed due to Covid, like the wine bar, but it's still a good place to shop and dine at. Also plenty of restaurants nearby. read more

Compared to all the other locations of Macy's I've been to, this one is the nicest. Their selection is great, the sales ladies don't just try to sell anything to you but genuinely tries to get you a good price (not just forcing to sign you to a credit card, but more informative) and very pleasant. I found an amazing Michael Kors dress here that people just gush about and ever since then I have been finding gems at this location. There are some great boutiques across the street too, so you can get all your shopping done in one go. read more

When I finally found someone, they took for ever to return. Kind of a stressful experience. Felt very sorry for the employees, they did not seem very happy. Went to Macy's looking for pink shoes and pink clothing for the Barbie movie. They had several Barbie branded collaborations with name brands, big pink signage, and staging sets, similar to an IKEA display but with kitschy pink retro furniture. I did manage to find comfortable glitter sneakers without heels and a dress with a doll-like giant skirting. However, I didn't notice until I got home that the dress was ripped on several seams. Fortunately, I know how to sew. This score is after spending 1.5 hours walking every inch of every floor. Most of the clothing was available only in plus sizes, and there were many ugly sneakers and uncomfortable but awesome heels. Even the mid-range sizes were unavailable. The condition of the bathrooms was extremely disappointing, worse than an interstate highway gas station. read more

This is one of the best department stores I have been to, second only to the historic Macy's in Manhattan. The store is huge, they have covered all categories, and prices are reasonable. Employees are available to help if needed. The store seems to be gaining traffic again, so I really hope they don't close it. read more
